Maine Furry Events Interest Survey
General | Posted 2 years agoHere at MaineFurs Command, we want to remind our community that everyone has a voice. Meets and Events aren't limited to a few activities decided by a few people.
We know not everyone feels like bowling and not everyone feels like driving hours and hours and not everyone has a lot of spending cash for events and dinners.
We want everyone to feel included so we have to ask...what do you want to do?
Let us know in this Google Survey by
Cheshire Kitsune.

When: Saturday, February 24, 2024 11:00 AM
Organized by: Luminous Limulus (@marinevetdan on Telegram)
Join our second aquarium tour! This time located in New Hampshire’s, beautiful Odiorne Point State Park we go to my place of work the Seacoast Science Center! Not only is this a small non-profit aquarium that focuses on education and conservation, but also has exhibits on local history and modern research and technology related to the sea! Putting attendance cap at 8 people (plus myself) for now, but this event will also be offered again in the future! This is a non-suiting event, because aquariums and fursuits seem like it they may not be a great combination. Event is also free! Also if anyone ever wants to have a tour on a specific date, let me know I can see if I can set it up!
Note: There is an attendance cap, so reach out to Luminous if you intend to go

Friday Night Pool Nights
General | Posted 3 years agoSo the schedule for the public pool changes on November 21 and the Friday night block will no longer be available. However, they have created open swim at the same time on Thursday nights every week except it is one hour shorter than usual. This should change back after the high school swimming season is over.
Geek Walk - Saturday, August 28, 2021
General | Posted 4 years ago
RunningRed is planning a Geek Walk in Portland, to visit old stores and see what new shops have opened up that sell comics, books, music, videos, and other forbidden objects from places men fear to tread.I plan to start near 650/666 Congress Street around noon, walking down Congress Street to Monument Square, then Exchange Street and Fore Street, but subject to change as the point of the trip is to be distracted by new and interesting places selling curious and unusual stuff.
Stores I'm likely to visit: Abraxas, Coast City, Amazing Intimate Essentials, Strange Maine, Moody Lords, 13th Floor Vinyl, CS Boutique, Old Port Candy Co., and possibly somewhere for noms.
Anyone is welcome to join at any point on the walk. I will try to update my location on Telegram/Twitter. Bring a mask, as many stores do require them.
As this is an outdoor event, it's weather permitting.

Furries on the Rockpile
Where: Mt Washington Summit
When: Saturday August 21, 2021 @ 2pm
Organized by : fidikv1en (Telegram)
Calling all of New England! Join us on the summit of Mount Washington in NH, for a group photo, fursuit photos and exploring the highest peak east of the Mississippi. Then for dinner afterward at the Red Fox Bar and Grille in Jackson, NH.
No suit? No problem!
All furs welcome!
Photos will begin at 2PM. Arrive anytime you like beforehand, the earlier the better in case parking is a challenge.
Cloudy/Rain Date: The summit is sometimes socked in by clouds. We’ll postpone if this is the case. Monitor the MaineFur chats, those that RSVP will be invited to a channel for announcements/news.
How: There are several ways to the summit:
Hike: There are several strenuous but doable hiking trails up to the summit of the mountain.
.
If you are bringing a fursuit and would like to hike, message Fidik if you would like him to transport your fursuit in his truck.
Drive: [url=https://mtwashingtonautoroad.com/drive-yourself]Mt Washington's Auto Road
Cost: $31 for car and driver + $9 for each passenger.
Hiker shuttle: Hiker Shuttle Van
Cost: $50 each way.
Cog Railway: Cog Railway Site
Cost: $40/$80 depending on which train.
Arrive on the mode of transportation of your choice anytime, pictures will begin at 2PM. Fursuiters will also get their own group photo, and individual photos. Before and after picture time, fursuiting is completely at your own risk, check with summit observatory if they will allow you to suit indoors.
I recommend donning the suit for the photo, then doffing for further exploring.
Things to keep in mind:
Drivers, save money by carpooling!
It’s often MUCH colder at the summit than at the base, consider a sweatshirt, or jacket.
It’s often very windy at the summit, hats/loose fursuit items beware.
If you walk around in suit be cautious of trip hazards/terrain.
Read the auto road’s vehicle requirements!
The summit observatory has a museum, food service and gift shop.
Mt Washington has it’s own zip code, post office and postmark, a unique addition if you want to send postcards to someone. Mail train service, in the observatory.
Food after:
Red Fox Bar and Grille, 49 Route 16, Jackson, NH

Dinner at 5pm. RSVP Fidik on Telegram so he can call in the reservation.

Winter months can be taxing on those of us in New England, adding to the stresses we're all enduring due to the pandemic.
If you find yourself overwhelmed, stressed, depressed or alone, please reach out to someone.
There is no shame in going to Telegram, Discord, Twitter, Facebook and letting people know how you feel.
You won't be bothering anyone or a burden if you ask for help, a virtual hug, a good laugh or a reminder that this is all temporary.
There are people willing to help. To lend a shoulder or ear. To connect.
We would rather spend a few minutes letting you vent than lose a friend due to burnout.
Stay safe.

RunningRedMaine Annual Furbeque 2020 Cancelled
General | Posted 6 years agoFrom
Nightspiritwings on Telegram:
Good morning everyone! We apologize for the radio silence. Both Kota and I have made the difficult decision to cancel the Annual BBQ for this year. We had talked about it and realized we both were just very exhausted and this has been a busy time for us both with little appropriate time to plan, we needed a break so that we could come back the next year better and stronger with more energy to boot! Then on top of all that, we got this pesky virus deal, which would have made having the BBQ unlikely anyways. We want you all to be safe and healthy, and would rather not risk exposure to any illnesses, your health is priority! So with that being said, we want to apologize but also welcome you to come next year when we resume our yearly fun and festivities and consuming of delicious food! We are already working on planning some things for next year, and have even commissioned a wonderful artist for the con badge design which we look forward to sharing too! With that being said, we love you all, stay safe and healthy, and do get some fresh air! We will be back next year! <3

Nightspiritwings on Telegram:Good morning everyone! We apologize for the radio silence. Both Kota and I have made the difficult decision to cancel the Annual BBQ for this year. RunningRedPool Meets Cancelled
General | Posted 6 years agoThe South Portland Community Center, which hosted our Friday evening swim meets, has closed, effective March 14th due to the Corona Virus. They informed us it was "for the foreseeable future" and didn't know when they might re-open.
It should go without saying that most meets are likely to be put on hold during this time, as part of the recommended "social distancing."
If you would like to host a virtual meet (streaming a movie, group skype call, online CaH, World of Warcraft raid), let us know in here or Telegram and we'd be happy to signal boost.

Old Port Meet:
Where:Portland's Old Port
When: Sat, August 03 @ 2:00p
The plan is to walk around the Old Port, looking at shops and stuff, finally ending at a diner.
Starting point is outside the Patriot Cinemas (Nickelodeon Cinemas), 1 Temple Street at 2:00p
Organized by Jack The Duck
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Furry Laser Tag
Where: G-Force Laser Tag 510 Wilson Street, Brewer.
When: Saturday, August 10th from 7p to midnight,
Gforce Laser Tag is excited to have us return, as am I! Last year's meet at the Augusta location had a great turnout for a first time event like that, and I'm hoping we can do just as good this year! This year, the meet will be held at the Brewer location instead. It's much larger and has a larger selection of things to do. Something to note is that suits cannot be worn in the inflatable areas for safety reasons. The place is at 510 Wilson St. in Brewer, across from the Dairy Queen. The location used to be a Playland Adventures, if anyone is confused. The price of admission is $15 for most activities, and an extra $5 to add Archery Tag and Re-Ball. From 7 P.M. to midnight. Must be 13+ to stay past 8 P.M. Hope to see you there!
TL;DR: Laser Tag Meet at Gforce, 510 Wilson Street in Brewer. August 10th, from 7 P.M. to midnight. $15 for the night (+$5 to add Archery Tag and Re-Ball). 13+ only. Suits can be worn in the building and most activities, but not during Bounce.
A Letter from the Convention Chair
Hi everyone,
I have some news about PFC. Unfortunately, even with how successful PFC was these past two years, I have to regretfully inform you that PFC is coming to an end. The convention did not make enough to sustain running. The board and myself have exhausted all of our resources and we have tried everything to keep this going. I apologize and thank you from the bottom of my heart for the support and love that you have given us. Please remember all of the great memories and the great things we have done for the community.
Thank you,
Haunter Husky
Chairman
Pine Fur Con
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Inspired by the joy and sense of community Haunter provided us with PFC, other furs have expressed interest in starting their own Maine-based furcons to continue the tradition. We will post journal updates with information as it comes.
The official Telegram group will remain active for the foreseeable future.
