I've finally started working on the body padding for my full suit and I'm having a blast looking at my self in the mirror while trying out the shapes.
To get a horses ass and unguligrade legs I need to make a huge bum pad and my thighs needs padding to.

I made my calves padding out of foam but the rest of the padding is made with stuffed pillows. Feels much better to wear and it moves better. If I have time I might try to make calve padding with stuffed pillows to, I fully haven't decided yet if I like the foam ones.

I managed to nail the correct size and shape for my thighs the first time but i need to remake the bum pads.

It's a really hot day here in the Swedish forest so now I really will experience how my full suit will feel on a hot summers day...

Two weeks to go, I'm working like a mad woman on the new Lyria suit and on my mates suit. For my suit I only have the body padding and body suit to do for my mates I have to sculpt and cast a silicone nose, paw pads and paint a pair of eyes. And help him cut out and assemble paws, foot paws and tail. Fortunately i have next week of and can work around the clock if I need to.

I worked a bit more with the skeleton of Lyrias new tail and now it bounces and follow my body movements perfectly. I adore it!
I think it will look awesome when I furred it and added some fake hair for the tuft and he end.

I have always dreamed of having wolf ears and a wolf tail. Not just a stuffed limped thing, a real one that is an extension of my body and move with me. Now that I've learned how to make one thanks to the Lyria suit, I'm thinking of doing a wolf version. And wolf ears. I've always considered myself to be something of a wolf/human hybrid. Kind of a werewolf in it's anthropomorphic form. I have yet to master prosthetic make up but the ears and the tail is a good start. I would love to just once wear a wolf version of the animal make up in this Orangina commercial:

I've also made some more Lyria progress, the first package of fake hair have been prepared with permanent waves so later today I can finally attach Lyrias mane. I think I might use some of the hair to fill out her goatie beard too.
If I get any laft over when I've made the tail, I'm thinking of adding some hair in the fetlocks both on the hoofhands and the back hoofs.

I feel so happy today.

Or to be correct, the fake hair to make the mane is on it's way to me.
It will probably take a week or so, I think. I'm looking forward to finish Lyrias head.

The hooves are out of their moulds and are curing and they look pretty good. There are some minor mistakes but considering the fact that I've never worked with this kind of material and technique (polyester and fibre glass laminate) before I'm pleased with them. I hope they have fully cured on Saturday so I can trim the edges with a dremel, sand down the surface a bit and start the fun process of painting them.

I need to have my hooves assembled before I can finish the ungulate legs on my body suit.

Last night I worked on both mine and Garm's body suits. There are lot's of alterations to be made to the basic fit before we can work on the digitigrade legs for Garm and the ungulate legs for me, but i think we'll both have smashing looking suits when the whole process is done.

Oh well, no time for play now I need to take our Swedish vallhound Stickan for a long walk and then start working on my commissions.

...very nervously...for the hooves to cure.
In about an hour I will know if 12 hours of work and 450 SEK in supplies will give me the hooves I'm after.

I really hope so because I don't want to work with polyester again. It was so damn hard. I guess some of my problems occurred because I released my moulds a bit early but the polyester and glass fiber weave would have been tricky and horrible to work with even with perfect moulds I think.

If this project ends up unsalvageable I need to figure out another way to get hooves that look the way I want and that make a clopping sound.

I just finished the mother moulds for Lyrias new hooves. If they and the ogoo moulds cure al right I can finally cast the new hooves in polyester resin and glass fibre.

I also need the weather to be good because the polyester stinks like hell so I need to work with it outdoors. I bought a respirator but I don't want to risk the smell lingering in the house. I could almost hear my brain cells crying when I opened the safe storage the auto repair shop keeps polyesters and gel coats in and the fumes seeped out. And my can of the crap wasn't even open. The fumes leaks out of the sealed can...I* really hope those hooves are worth it when finished.

Oh, well I should get some sleep, lots to do tomorrow.

I'm almost finished with Lyrias new head, the only thing missing is her mane. I've been patiently waiting for my semi local supplier to get some wefted cream white synthetic hair in stock but it looks like they'll not going to get it so I guess I'll have to order some from Britain instead.

Yesterday I finally order a set of cloppers from monoyasha, when they arrive I can make my hand hooves :)

I've also managed to make an armature for her tail and I've painted the soles of the shoes that are going to be transform into hooves. I got lucky and scored a pair of almost new adidas sneakers at the thrift shop so these hooves are going to be super comfortable :)

I've been pondering on how to make my unguligrade legs and have decided to go with the pillow method since it seems to be the most breathable solution.

So my plan for today is:

Do a mock up of the body suit and legs, start with the actual hoof construction. Oh, I want my new suit to be finished now...

Being a pagan, I don't celebrate Christmas. I celebrate Yule, but I prefer the Swedish spelling for it, Jul.

I'm working hard on making Lyria v 2.0 and even though I would love to work with casting, I just don't feel like trying it in this project.

2. A 50 piece set of Letraset promarker
Back in my school days everyone in the fashion sketch class swore by copic markers but those are very expensive. Promarker seems to be a nice alternative and I currently do not own any art grade markers.

3. I've been drooling over those fantastic badges that Tanidareal makes. I would love to have a Lyria one. But since she's not finished yet, I guess that would be a bit hard.

4. I really would like to get my hands on a copy of Claire Shaffers Couture Sewing techniques. It's the best tailoring book I've ever read and sadly the library want to have their copy back ;)

5. Money would be nice, I would really like to go to Eurofurence next year...

6. A new part time job, I'm not very pleased with the one I got atm...

Well, this is wishes. Truth is I'm very happy that this year I'm celebrating Jul with my beloved Garm_the_wolf and friends and that it is the biggest gift of all!

Now it's time to go out and work in my studio, the jul holiday isn't here yet :)

It's getting late here in the Swedish forest, but I have my head so full with furry so I can't relax and sleep. For the first tine since summer I'm drawing something else than fashion sketches.

I feel a bit rusty and I've never drawn anthro style art before but it sure is fun.
I've managed to throw together a quick ref sheet for Lyria that I'm quite happy with. It's not a great work of art but it gives the general idea. Will try to scan it tomorrow and work on it in Photoshop, I think.

I hope the new head for Lyria will turn out good. It's looking promising so far but you never know. This is my second fursuit head ever so anything can happen.

I was quite pleased with the first Lyria head (pictures in the gallery) considering it was my very first head, but it has some kinks that I'm trying to fix with v 2.0 :

1. The size
When wear the head it kind of gives a bit of a bobble head effect. It will probably look better with a real fursuit but I still feel that the scale is a bit off.

2. The weight
It's built using all foam and I had to use a lot of it to get the right shape. It makes it a wee bit heavy to wear, my neck protested loudly the day after my first outing. I also accidentally made the snout a bit too long and at a too low angle which together with the horn made of sculpey makes it very "front heavy"

3. Bad sight
I placed the eyes like on a horse and though it gives her the right look it makes it impossible for me to see what's in front of me, under my nose ( i.e the ground) and I can only get clear vision if I turn my head and look with one eye. I really got a better understanding for horses now that I've seen the world a bit like they're seeing it :P

4. Design
Lyria is a unicorn that's based on the mediaeval unicorn concept i.e a creature that is a mix between deer/goat/horse/lion. Since she is toony and cute I want her to look like a mix between bambi and a MLP with goat beard, lions mane, lions tail and goat hooves. Lyria v 1.0 looked more like a mix between a horse and the dragon in Neverending story with deer ears. Very cute but not quite what I intended.

Here's the master plan:

So the new head is made with the plastic canvas method which will deal with the weight and size issue. The new horn is made of a compound called mannequin clay that dries to a very strong and light weight material. I've placed the eyes differently on this head and I hope it will get me better vision. I've also looked at a ton of reference images and I hope i can get the shape better this time.

Right now I have the gums, tounge and horn drying, the plastic canvas base with the moving jaw the are finished and the foam are cut out. The eyes are ready to be installed and the ears are made and waiting to be sewn on. I hope that I'll be able to paint horn, gums and tongue tomorrow and maybe start the foaming process.

Oh, I want it to be tomorrow night!
