Other art accounts
Posted 11 years agoI put it in a journal a while ago but I'm also Lapinstein on weasyl https://www.weasyl.com/profile/lapinstein if you need to see the art I do for some reason and FA isn't available for whatever reason.
I haven't submitted in a while, the reason is simply that I'm busy and I haven't been doing much more than sketching.
Thankies.

FA questionnaire
Posted 12 years ago1. Why did you join FurAffinity?
Fed up with deviant arts bullshit rules basically. Freedom of expression limited by moderators. List goes on for a while. I resisted FA for as long as possible because I don't like to manage multiple art sites.
2. What does your username have to do with you?
I like Wolfenstein. So I slapped Lapin on it.
3. What is your current avatar of?
My personal character Topher. He's giggling. It's good ol' pixel art by my friend
shaw and I enjoy it.
4. How many watchers do you have, and how many do you watch?
I have around 6000. I watch around 300. My watch list is currently shrinking as I go through and remove people who aren't active. Not sure what either of these numbers mean.
5. Do you have more than one account?
yes. The other account is Lapinsteinmobile. Which posts no art, no journals, or anything else.
6. Name 3 of your favorite artists on FA.
Shawyay
Lintu
Portzebie
easy list
7. What artist do you admire because of their personality?
None of them. That would require contact. I don't do contact usually.
8. Do you comment, fave, or both?
Yes and yes. When I feel like it.
9. What do you typically post on FA?
Just about anything furry I draw.
10.What's your favorite submission in your gallery?
hmmm...can't say I have a favorite, as the artist I only see things to improve on.
11. What are the things you wish you could draw better?
Meh, I actually wish I had more patience for digital painting like I do for traditional painting, I don't like lines.
12. How many hours a day do you spend on FA?
Maybe half an hour to an hour. Depends.
13. Are you a fast, slow, or medium typer?
120 wpm
14. What is the most annoying thing people ask you?
FA people? I hate it when people question obvious things or make stupid comments about something they don't understand. That's a general rule. I can usually take it but the internet and impersonal interface makes it really hard to tell how someone is actually saying something. Most of the time it comes off as 'snooty'. So it's annoying.
15. What is the most annoying/offending comment you've received?
Somebody said I'd never be as good as some other artist. Kind of a pointless comment as I'm not striving to make that person happy with my art, it's mostly about me.
I read image boards too where people are brutally honest about how much they hate my art. As per usual my mind focuses on the negative rather than the positive, in the end though, none of those comments really matter, though I have used some of them to figure out what I need to focus on.
16. What/who inspires you?
Intellectual stimulation. A really well written book. A good story. A good speech. Sometimes just stuff I think is cool in passing (when it comes to drawing shit I find sexy).

Back from California
Posted 12 years agoI was down at Cali for a week. Down in Hemet. Went to disney land and a few other places.
Good times, and I'm back to work on monday, but I'm feeling artsy a little bit too.

Steam Black Ink
Posted 12 years agoI bought Black Ink on steam. So far it's pretty interesting, but I'm clueless when it comes to digital programs.
So I'll be screwing around with that for the next few weeks. I'm on vacation next week. I'm hoping to relax and sleep a lot. I might take my sketch book, I have 2 to fill with nonsense :-X.
Apparently I'm going to be an uncle in about 7 months too. I turn 33 next month. Jesus-fuck where is all of the time going?
I'm not really too sure about what's going to happen when I'm back in college, I rarely have time for drawing as it is. I know me though, and I have to get art off of my chest or it starts to become all I think about.
meeeeh, half awake, guess I should get my ass off to work so I can drag my feet there too. On the bright side I've been covering for someone I don't want to at work, and that shit ends today. Finally I can do my own job.
See ya

The annoyances and triumphs of art
Posted 12 years agoIt's a very ambitious journal title isn't it?
Considering how little I have to say. Just gonna say that I've been doing a lot of drawings in my sketchbook at work. Haven't had time for much digital work, and it's not because I don't have free time outside of work, it's because the time is delegated to other things lately.
For example I have done 3 oil paintings in the past few weeks, and I plan to do one this weekend. I've completed 8 pictures in my sketchbook which is slowly driving me insane because the sketchbook I got is tiny, and I do not do good work in a small area (this is largely in part to my complete and total fail at composing a picture to fit an area). Subject matter in the sketchbook include Press, Lintu, Jessica, Falt, Snarfgirl, Sashi, Pitch, and a new character based off of the beast of dartmoor.
I have noticed, however, that my art is improving! This is good because I've been bummed about not seeing much improvement. I'm finding that I need to get the fuck away from digital media for a while. When I do sit down to do digital media I don't usually have a large amount of time to invest, and when I don't have the time I get impatient and start to hate the results. On top of that the Cintiq that I own (yes I know, lucky lucky, but I did pay for it, not so lucky) is a huge pain in the ass to get the colors right on. It seems that once the colors are right the whites and blacks aren't right (you can't see light gray shading for instance).
It's kind of a rambling journal, my next project is going to be a guy character. So I fully expect the 6 likes that that's going to get :).
Oh yeah, I've been going to plays and stuff lately. I saw Chicago last week. The mouse trap a few months ago, a play named "trails' that made me cry like a little bitch. I've been out at the Single-A Aquasox games in Everett, and I've been screwing around with a small garden in my backyard.
Anywho - journal complete.

Fat boy is walking
Posted 12 years agoBack to watching what I eat and walking a mile a day. I'm at the 'holy shit so fat' stage, sooooooo, gotta build up the body strength and eventually get back to 3 - 5 miles a day.
I know I know, it's not metric. I'm not happy about it either.
Hopefully I can get my sleep schedule back in order and do a walk every morning. I think doing graveyard for 5 years made it hard to get back to sleeping at night, but I'm working on it.

About art being stolen
Posted 12 years agoHello Folks,
I've gotten quite a few messages in regards to my artwork being stolen. I won't post the link because I don't feel like it. First and foremost thank you very much for looking out for me. You don't have to do this, but you did anyway and that's really nice of you.
From what I can tell this person is using the picture for some kind of sexualized roleplaying fantasy. You couldn't know where I stand on this unless I told you so here it goes.
As long as the crediting signature that links back to my furaffinity remains on the picture, I feel that this is okay. It shows more people my art and probably brings them back here, which is a good thing for when I start to take commissions again.
If they had removed my signature and the link to my page I probably would have been PO'd, but they left it.
The reality is that my art is in quite a few places that haven't asked for permission to use it, but I've always thought if they leave the original links and credit the art to me then we are okay.
Also, please be aware that anybody using my character will not be aware of their storyline and as such, any claim that their roleplay would be canon to the actual character is false. For example Pitch (renamed 'Joy' by said person) is definitely not 6 feet tall.
So there you have it. I'm going to be contemplating what my next picture should be now ^_^. Have a great week.

Are you moving Lapinstein?
Posted 12 years agoNo I don't have to 'move' to Weasyl. I already had an account.
Don't care about what's going on either.
Also, I've been playing too much magic the gathering lately. I've joined a watercolor landscaping class. I'm enjoying it.
See ya <3

Mems
Posted 12 years ago1. A selection of television programs you do not care for.
Don't know. I don't watch enough television.
2. A selection of musical artists you do not care for.
Tool.
3. A selection of celebrities you couldn't care less about.
I don't concern myself with them, they're just poor animals abused for the masses entertainment.
4. A hobby you “don’t get”.
Off-roading. Kudos if you like it, it's just not for me.
5. A habit you find disgusting.
picking your nose and eating it
6. Something in school you really liked doing that everyone else bitched over.
typing class
7. Your favorite household chore.
recycling
8. Popular video games that make you go “meh”.
Bayonetta. Left 4 Dead.
9. PC or MAC?
PC. I can't stand Apple's business plan.
10. A sport you don’t like, for whatever reason.
Dressage - most boring thing I have ever watched.
11. A sport you really like, for whatever reason.
American Football.
12. Television programs you love but have gotten shit for liking.
Ghost Adventures
13. Musical artists you love but have gotten shit for liking.
Turmion Kätilöt - literally was only given shit by an idiot for liking this. I turned on 'Hades' by them at work and my boss scoffs and says 'My musical taste is more mature than this'. At which I scoffed because she listens to P!nk ever day at the age of 46. Nothing against P!nk of course, I listen to her too, but I don't claim that my 'taste' is more mature than someone elses either. So fuck her :P
14. A hobby you have/find interesting that other people bother you over/make fun of.
I'm beginning to wonder what kind of group the author of this meme rolls with if they get judged for everything they do. The answer is: none.
15. A habit you have that other people bug you over.
I don't look people in the eyes, apparently that makes them think I'm lying.
16. Something in school you hated doing and it felt like everyone else loved.
Sex Ed. I was 11, and hated the whole thing.
17. The household chore that makes you want to shoot your own face off.
I unno - if I feel like doing it none of them are too tough.
18. A selection of video games that you enjoy that perhaps you really shouldn't.
And why the fuck shouldn't I enjoy what I like? screw you meme.
19. A celebrity crush that maybe even you don’t understand.
'crush'? oh yes a guy would say it like this 'who would you bang, that people know?'. Does my celebrity have to be real? there are fictional celebrities in the furry fandom. Lets divide this into two categories. Real and Fantasy. Real girl: None. Fantasy women: like all of them.
20. Free rant on whatever grinds your gears at the moment.
You know what grinds my gears? The shitty online gaming community as a whole. You can't just fucking play a game with these goddamned troglodytes. These undeserving leptons raised in an era of 'rubber-chips' in playgrounds to keep their tender little heads from breaking, are the most abusive, annoying, and self-indulged pukes ever.
I hate getting on a game and playing for 10 minutes and feeling like 'I shouldn't be playing with these kids'. There you go, now I FEEL like I'm fucking 32. Congratulations you little bastards - enjoy your game.
I unno I just stay away from most online games as much as I can now. Give me single player and co-op.
Don't know. I don't watch enough television.

Posted 12 years agoIt took me 12 hours over the span of like 5 days. But I finished going through all of the watchers I've gotten recently. How recently?
I got to the bottom of the pile and the last person had watched '2 Years ago'.

I'm adjusting to the new work schedule just fine. My attitude is improving drastically. Though I have GOT to stop coming home and then staying up until 5am. I'm tired when I get home at 11:30, but youtube and friends keep me up.
Too much stimulation!

Working on a picture atm. Going through a loathing period. I may revert to studying other artists again. I have not done that for probably 8 years. I had a thought last night that I might try a few little sketches that I put into smaller starting resolutions so I can work on my overall composition too.
Usually what I'll do is open up a 3000x2000 pixel canvas and just draw whatever wherever and then crop the canvas to fit the picture. I think it might be a better idea to drop the pixels to about 800x800 and compose the way I want the picture to look. This is important to me, just because I decided it is.
Anywho, gotta get going to work. Caio

Dear Topher
Posted 12 years ago<insert long winded bullshit about pseudo-dreamed car crash> Dear Esther, right right?
Anyway. Fair is fair and this weekend I propose to get through the last 1,367 watchers I have attained and watch-back or not. It shall be done. So it is written. So it shall be done.
I got a new job. I work for the same state agency, I simply do not work for the sexist tyrant I did before. My attitude has become MUCH better. Now all I need to do is lose all the weight I have gained from the long winter (filled with sweets and treats and all of that wonderful stuff that makes our stomach balloon out), and regain my foothold on art.
I went to see a play lately. Actually I went to two, I went to 'A Christmas Carol' which was a low budget production which insisted on it's viewers using their imagination (Yes I loved it). The other play I saw was 'fiddler on the roof' which was epicly good. The only other play I had seen before that was the Wizard of Oz, which I thoroughly enjoyed as well.
I saw the movie Les Miserables. I liked it, though it's a long movie. One of my favorite parts is when a chair flies out of a window for no reason at all. They probably could have cut out some of the dramatic singing where the storyline rams itself down your throat. Y'know, just in case you didn't understand or can't put two and two together to get four.
My plan this year is to go back to college and finish my bachelors degree. We'll see how that works out.
I'm art blocking right now. Which for me doesn't mean 'I don't have ideas' it means 'I have ideas but they're not coming out good enough'. My standards are getting unreasonable. I'm giving some serious thought to rethinking a few characters, completely dumping others, and creating better ones. All of this is very ambitious and time consuming *yawn*.
Anyway, hope the new year is treating you well.

Anywho, long time no see. Art has slowed down. The excuse is basically 'world of warcraft' and it's endless daily grinds and me wanting to get exalted with everything. Also lots of changes at work including leadership training (where I learned I already do everything right :P and yes I realize how overconfident that sounds). The crazy lady at work that I've been having troubles with changed. She claims that I made a better effort to converse with her and has thanked me several times for the change, but the reality is that SHE changed after she heard I had completed the leadership class. I literally changed NOTHING about my demeanor and she decided she was done being a raving bitch at that point.
I may be getting a new job as well. Not exactly new but at a different location that would take me away from my ...erm, extremely sexist boss. So I'm hoping for the interview process soon. My competition is basically a person that the boss ADORES so my chances are...hahaha, non existent. I'll keep smiling and try anyway.
I turned 32 last month. 3 weeks ago or something. I guess that was kind of a thing that happened of some significance. I would say my birthday doesn't have much meaning to me anymore. I don't even care if I get gifts. Just another day, another year to tattoo a notch in my thigh to show how far my balls have dropped (Daniel Tosh anyone?).
Kind of in a rutt lately but I have ideas for art. They'll be surprises. There is no process of selection for what I choose to do next. Usually I'll just kind of skim my art and say 'ooo I want to sketch that again'.
Oh one last thought. I saw Wreck-it Ralph. Here are my thoughts. Extremely weak storyline. Completely excellent characters charm overcomes the weak storyline. In the end the focus on their personalities really saved the movie for me. I also can't be the only one who thought that there were not ENOUGH video game references. MORE MORE MORE. Zangief stole the show as my favorite villain...if you don't like Zangief, who will crush man's skull for you, with thighs? *slap*
Blah blah blah. Sleep.

I'm moving this weekend. Half-assed art from me will return on schedule in the next few weeks. I should be mostly moved in by Monday, and my 3 week vacation ends on Monday so I'll be going back to work that day as well.
I painted a cell-phone case for my woman while there was an outage. I also went out and got some canvas's and oil to do some oil paintings. Good times.

About Keese
Posted 13 years agoI should probably give a little more detail and story about certain characters. For lack of a better excuse I have just never felt it necessary.
I was reading some posts about Keese on various image boards and there's some confusion about her. I have not made it clear how she's a keese.
Keese http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7660974/ as seen here, is not a Keese. I've keyworded it a few times, but she is actually modeled after an Ache from Zelda 2 http://www.zeldawiki.org/Ache . This is further hinted at by the tattoo above her ass http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2068672/ , which, due to its location doesn't show up in every picture I do of her. I chose an Ache because in Zelda 2 they are indeed bats, but they have an anthropomorphic form when they land (some of them even breath fire). This doesn't mean that Keese herself is a shape shifter however.
I have thus dubbed her Keese both as a tribute to the bats of the original Zelda, and because I think it's an endearing and different name.
The story behind her has something to do with my idea of how Shadow Link was created. Now with the timeline that Nintendo has erroneously released (no amount of convincing will change my mind that they should have never indulged in the notion of releasing that blasphemy) you can throw this idea entirely out of the window, but I keep it in mind because I like it.
After playing Twilight Princess I was pretty much blown away by how the franchise had matured so quickly by simply adding a story that made you feel closer to it's characters. After it's conclusion I was pretty certain that what we had witness was a love between Midna and Link that had to tragically end. I had thought that on her death bed Midna would have let loose a single tear of regret for what she could not indulge in with someone she had to remain seperate from, and that tear would escape from the princess of shadow, and take on it's own meaning simply from the emotion from which it was forged, and would in turn be given it's own life in the form of Shadow Link.
In my mind Shadow Link would then not really be an enemy but would show up to test heroes in the future, to see if their mettle was worthy of the one who would be called hero. After the trial he would simply fade away again. So I thought then that there would be a missing part of the triforce (probably making it a quadforce or some shit) which was hidden in the middle. As the triforce represents what could be considered a balance, or light, the piece in the middle would represent shadow, and remain unseen but ever present or implied. Keese, and Press are intended to be agents of the shadow triforce (which is probably a triforce due to it's three 'points' rather than it's three 'pieces') which Shadow Link is also associated with. Which is why I keep inverting the triforce in some of the pictures :D.
I was tickled to think that a Keese and her companion Press would be easily viewed as minions of Ganon but ultimately have their own agenda assisting Shadow Link, and Link himself.
I know this is all blasphemy to the Zelda fans, but meh, I like Keese and I'm keeping her as a character.

Thanks for the favs and comments. Really cool of you :0).

Journal about artwork
Posted 13 years agoHi there.
Art seems slow coming from me doesn't it? Well here's the deal. My eyesight has gotten so bad that it's just frustrating to digitally do anything. For example I have to always squint to see even thick lines on the screen and often unless I do that, I will see 2 - 3 lines on the screen. SOOOOOO...
I have an eye appointment tomorrow. I'll get some nice glasses, and produce more work..

(SPOILERS) Mass Effect 3: thoughts on the game
Posted 13 years agoSPOILEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERS
ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVEN'T BEATEN IT
You've been warned.
Actually I don't know if there will be spoilers. I'm back from a nearly 40 hour incursion into Mass Effect 3. To be frank I loved the game dearly. I liked hunting down all of the old gang members. Seeing them make their sacrifices, how they have changed and evolved.
The game was buggy on my xbox 360. At times characters would talk but be completely invisible. I was dissappointed that after buying the Shadow Broker DLC for the game that my Shepard could not remember that Liara was the shadow broker or that he had saved her. I also did not romance Tali, depsite getting close, but the game acted as if I had.
I am a bit dissappointed by the end of the game. I see a petition for a real ending. I feel this is justified. The 'child-god program' felt like a cop-out. As much science-fiction as the game has going on (plot holes and all) it's kind of hard to take that they threw caution to the wind and did not tie the game up neatly. Mass Effect 1 had a great ending, 2 had a foreboding ending which you probably knew was coming from ME 1 but it worked as a bridge between 1 and 3. As a fan ME3 failed to end it for me in a satisfactory way. There's a lot of discussion on wether the endings are not ideal enough. Screw ideal. Sure Shepard can die (and maybe some people expected it) but what I really wanted out of the ending was closure.
Mass Effect is probably the first game I've played in a while where your progress, decisions, heroics (or anti-heroics) are carried on into the next game. This gives the game added depth if you can really get into the storyline. As I did. I kind of feel like it was all for nought when none of my decisions made any difference in the finale. I felt that wether or not Shepard lived could have been ambiguous and I would come to my own conclusions and been satisfied. Instead Shepards fate is beyond my control, despite all that we'd been through together (I know that I'm referring to this character as if he's real: that's a product of my attachment to the story, not some wierd psychosis where I believe that fictional characters exist :P).
All in all the end left me feeling empty. Not like a galaxy saving hero.
In either case, I loved everything else about it, but the fans deserved closure. C'mon man.

Triumphant return! well not really
Posted 13 years agoWriting a journal about nothing.
Art - still growing. A little bit too slow for my liking so I have not been satisfied with it lately. I've been restless about it. I know that I'm getting somewhere, but it seems to me that there's some kind of revelation that I'm missing.
I believe this may be driving my closest friends nuts because I'm doing nothing but bitching about everything I put out or sketch. I can't help but feel that learning art is one of the most random mazes you can transverse. I see it in all artists, no matter what skill level you start at. We look largely the same at the beginning but growth is dependant on the individual.
As much as I would like to find the next doorway to go through, it frustrates me so much that I'm kind of just pushing it aside and hoping to kick the door down 'so to speak'.
This is largely due to stress at my job. Which is bad, because art, writing, and music are my hobbies. I need them to relax. I've actually started looking for a new job because of all of this (it is that important to me). Maybe this journal is a note to myself: Keep focused on what's important, and push all other things aside that are in your way. Excluding the things you care about the most (be careful on this one).
Anyway. Blah blah blah. Probably just needed to get it off my chest. Thanks for all of you that like my stuff and I love the comments ^_^.
