Spring energy (soon)
General | Posted 2 years agoHello! Happy March! Spring is almost here and I can feel the energy in my bones, waiting to burst forth with the next sunny day!
Trying to develop a routine or schedule is an ever shifting focus of mine. I feel like the weekday Ko-Fi sketches has been a great source of habit, and it's a quick way to start and finish a drawing, but I wonder if it's taking away my limited time I can spend on commissions or the more rare personal art. I think having limited slots that I work on 3 times a week rather than 5 will give me a good balance of time. With 2 little ones, spending 4 hours in a day on art is a rare blessing, so I have to allocate my time as wisely as possible.
There are a few things I'd love to explore this year. I've been craving the feeling of paint on a brush, so a return to watercolor media is a top goal. Maybe when winter rolls around I'll experiment with a sticker machine. Starting a monthly subscription to offer bonus and exclusive artwork would be nice, but I'm not quite sure what type of art people would like. I've also considered recording my drawings and making voice overs, but that's a brave leap - maybe I should start out with streaming instead, and see if others can tolerate my voice xD
So as you can see I have a lot of directions I could go and picking from them isn't easy. But I'll keep chugging on for now and seeing what i can incorporate into my routine. I hope you all are doing well and I hope the spring energy hits you soon too!

Returning to Digital Media
General | Posted 4 years agoSo I finally got a digital drawing tablet (iPad) after a 5 year hiatus from digital art and computers in general. It’s amazing how much the online art community has evolved over that short time, and I’m not a spry young adult anymore with limitless time to browse the internet. It’s taken me a while to figure out what style of art I’d like to achieve and how to practice that efficiently and relatively quickly. With a 2 year old and another on the way efficiency is important.
While I’d love to revisit watercolors and gouache, for now I’m limited to the simple and portable equipment of the iPad and pen.

Reccomendations for a scanner? [solved :]
General | Posted 5 years agoFor anyone who uses scanners.. is there a specific type I should buy to scan my artwork?
I had a flatbed scanner years ago and it worked fine, no idea how much it cost but $200 seems to he the lower end on amazon.
Has anyone tried the portable scanners that suck up the paper?
Anything else I should be looking for besides a decently high DPI? all artwork will be 9" or smaller.
And MOST IMPORTANTLY do i need a computer to set one up/use it? I see where some will send to cloud or are android compatible but i -think- id still need a pc to set it up.

Furry February
General | Posted 5 years agoI am starting a personal project I am calling Furry February, to draw and paint a little adoptable character every day. Sort of like Inktober
I am doing this to challenge myself and get into a work schedule. And there's not much else we can do this month without funds to continue progress on our house.
I am trying to develop a technique that will let me quickly and efficiently paint a unique character.
Any advice or criticism is always appreciated :) i am always looking to improve my art.

General | Posted 5 years agoHello! I just realized I haven't "introduced" myself, so here goes.
I am Kay, and I am long time furry artist (started about 15 years ago) but for the past 5 years my focus has been much less on art and more on developing a homestead and a family. In that time I've returned to much more traditional values (having a baby will do that to ya xD) and due to someone breaking our tablet by transporting it in a very unsturdy file folder (me...) I have only a phone to upload artwork.
So I've returned to traditional art, which I've very much been enjoying. After lots of trial and error I've developed the patience for watercolor and often use gouache as an accent.
Finding the time and space to draw is hard though, but an addition to our home is in progress \o/
As for personal stuff, I am 30, happily married to a man with the patience of a saint, and have one little boy, and hoping for more~
I have strong political opinions BUT you won't find out about them, I'm keeping that sort of stuff out of my work and work environment.
I'd love to meet and talk to you! I hope the new year is going well for you and God Bless <3
