Psychonautastic
Posted 18 years agoYesterday I transcended time and space. I took communion from Quetzalcoatl and briefly became a section of the writhing Midgard Serpent. Then a series of bird-headed dead gods came to me and said:
"We are here. We have always been here. You are a vessel of spirits."
I perceived that my body was a sort of meat-ship, transporting spirits through reality. What I thought of as my consciousness was actually a myriad group of beings functioning as a coherent whole.
Hmm. This is even more interesting when you take into account that this was just my brain talking to itself. Ego-death is strange.
Anyway, I've (almost) finished my first year of college. I have a week of freedom followed by a week of exams followed by a summer of menial labor and intellectual introspection. And a lot of messing about on the interwebs.
In the meantime, my housing situation is pretty much resolved. I'm most likely going to share an apartment with a friend close to campus. Being able to cook for myself again will be amazing.
I just finished an enormous final portfolio for my creative writing class, and as I result I am actually really sick of working on my "serious" writing. It'll be a nice, decompressing break to work on the sensationalist fluff that is No Exit for a while.

I Am The Inactive Ingredient In FurAffinity
Posted 18 years agoSorry, people I like to keep in contact with. I've been gone. Inactive. Hibernating.
My real life has been far more pressing than my online life as of late. I went from taking 3.5 courses last semester to taking 4.5 classes and getting a part-time job this semester. I like doodling. I like writing furry pulp fiction. I love communicating with you all and sharing my obscure interests. But when it comes to focusing on my day-to-day existence or my hyenaoid presence on the internet, I have to choose the former.
In other news. I turned 19 four days ago. I "lost" my college's housing lottery, which means I'm now scrambling to secure off-campus housing for next year.
I have three more weeks of class, followed by a "reading week" and exams. During this summer, when I'll be waiting tables in the middle of nowhere, I'll probably be very present on the interwebs. I'll probably sporadically comment on other people's work until then.

Hokay
Posted 18 years agoI'm healed. Hallelujah! Woke up this morning with no hacking cough for the first time in a couple of weeks. I'm going to quit smoking cigarettes except for special ocassions. Not that I smoked very much to begin with. Bronchitis was basically my body reminding me, "Hey. HEY. Remember when you had asthma as a kid? Yeah. Your lungs are crap."
I'm out of class and back on the east coast for a week for spring break.
I'll spend my time sleeping, writing, raiding thrift stores, visiting friends in Hipsterland, making calls, kicking ass, and chewing gum.
And I'm all out of gum.

Hay You Guys
Posted 18 years agoI have acute bronchitis. It sounds bad, but only if you confuse it with chronic bronchitis. If I'm lucky I'll be better in a week.
I'm also officially taking my cigarette-a-day habit to cigarettes-only-on-weekends. Because apparently my bronchial tubes are delicate little flowers that can't stand the ocassional cold combined with whisps of clove smoke.

Posted 18 years agoI'm very, very slowly recovering from a plague that's swept my campus. I survived, but have been left with a nasty, lingering cough. HACKHACKbleh. No smoking for me until I heal. I miss my delicious clove-y cigarette breaks. Boohoo.
Anyways, I've gotten caught up in finishing one of my short stories so there might not be a No Exit update until I'm done with "Dr. Nobody", my dream-inspired 1950s paranoid fairy tale. I consider No Exit to be my fun typing exercise writing as opposed to my "real" writing, so other things will usually be my first priority. I'll probably post "Dr. Nobody" here, though, to see what people think. It's weird enough that you guys might like it. :3

Strung Out Again
Posted 18 years agoAnother wasted weekend followed by a pile-up of work. Hurrah. Time for procrastination.
I'm reading Grant Morrison's run of Doom Patrol right now. He turns the Botherhood of Evil into the Brotherhood of DaDa. Wow. I think he is slowly worming his way into my pantheon of muses.
Who is Grant Morrison?
Grant Morrison is a comics writer and practicing chaos magician. He once asked fans of The Invisibles to hold a wank-a-thon to prevent the comic's cancellation. He has claimed his stories were related to him by aliens when he was abducted in Australia.
Grant Morrison has already had sex with your wife in the future.
Question... Does anyone here like to communicate via SecondLife? I tried it before and quickly abandoned it due to my inability to navigate it and find interesting conversations. Sometimes, though, I feel the visual stimulation would be a nice break from having lines of white-on-black text burned into my retinas.

Smile! No One Cares How You Feel
Posted 18 years agoHappy V-Day, everyone!
It's going to be super-fun. Are you ready to storm Normandy beach? Well ARE YOU?!
Oh. Wait. That would be D-Day. With a dee. This is the one with the cards and the candy...
Sigh.
Well, I'll have to make do. Excuse me while I go scavenge off of the desperate and alone.
Love,
Kafka

Posted 18 years agoIt's down to these possible LJ usernames:

kafkanaut

I like the suffixes -naut and -nik.
Also, there is a loud squirrel outside my window right now and it's sort of freaking me out. And whoever thought up the idea of making papers due on 5 pm on Saturday was a sadistic fellow. And somebody thought it would be a good idea to give me money to teach elementary school kids about frogs. What?
Also, what I thought was a squirrel is actually eight robins, a woodpecker-y thing, and a sparrow creature rifling through the leaves under my window. I guess there's something delicious there.

Posted 18 years agoI need sleep. I... can feel my brain shutting down. My schedule is such that I have a few days of "no time for the amount of sleep I require to function", but consequently I have a practically three day weekend in which to recover.
I think I'm going to sell my soul and get a Livejournal so that I organize my interweb weirdness better. I need to think up a username, though. Something flexible and vague that's not overly cutesy and/or pretentious. Something without numbers in it. This is made difficult by the fact that almost every possible permutation of letters is taken as a Livejournal username. Help me out here. Current ideas that have passed the [blank].livejournal.com test:
_scavenger
paperscavenger or paper_scavenger
scavengergirl or scavenger_girl
nixnik
bookhead
peredvishnik (I'm an enthusiastic! worker!)
halogenlights
ptitsa
britvachick
You can tell I need sleep when I start using Nasdat. Anyway, suggestions would be helpful.

It Ain't Easy
Posted 18 years agoRarrghl. Taking a slight overload of courses is fun but somewhat stressful. I'm all insomniatic and short on free time.
Strangely, I've discovered that there's a definite correlation between insomnia and my general creativity levels. I've had some of my most productive writing periods during my worst bouts of insomnia. I think this occurs for two reason. Cutting sleep out of my day gives me a lot of time to write. What else am I going to do at 3 am on a Wednesday night? Then there's also insomnia's general effect on my subconscious-conscious dynamic. Dreams start floating up out of my tired brain while I'm awake. A character's face, a turn of phrase, a piece of plot, a line of dialogue. Things I wouldn't remember properly if I'd actually been asleep while my brain was spitting them out.
The writing isn't very focused, though. Bits of unrelated parts that I have to string together into something coherant.
The last member of The Whole Sick Crew swam into my head during a Biology lab. You won't meet him/her/it for a couple of chapters, though, so don't get too excited. The upcoming story arc, after I finish introducing the main characters, is going to be very interesting. I refer to it internally as the "Underworld" arc.
Anyway, I put up a couple of snapshots of myself in the "scraps" gallery because I didn't have any real submissions to provide.
I've been listening to The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust on a loop and reading Grant Morrison's The Invisibles. I think it's doing strange things to my sleep-deprived brain.
In The Works:
More No Exit.
"Poppies" (because of course I'm going to go for the Great War cliche) for Mr. Vulp.
Blitzkrieg picture of some sort.
Non-anthro related short thing I've been working on that I might post up here to give you guys a taste of my "real" writing. It's called "Dr. Nobody". It's a fairy tale about an ex-Nazi scientist living in a bunker in 1950s suburbia. Yeah.

Internet, I Have Not Forsaken Thee
Posted 18 years agoStill adjusting to the fact that I actually have internet again, so pardon my belated responses and uploads and general lack of online presence.
Busy busy week. I've spent most of it semi-intoxicated and/or reading Grant Morrison comics and/or attending non-classes such as Cooking with Marijuana, Birds of Oregon, and BDSM 101. I won a flogger/riding-crop hybrid in a RAFFLE. Ha!
Class starts on Monday. Meh.

What I Did Over My Winter Vacation (by Kafka)
Posted 18 years agoOh. Wow. You don't know what a relief it is to have real internet again. College campus high-speed WiFi = love.
I'm back at school again, though real classes don't start for another week. This means a week of fun times, kiddies.
I spent my vacation bumming around CT and SC seeing old friends, reading Dostoyevsky's Notes from the Underground, playing with my drawing tablet, writing a bit, and watching lots of daytime television. I have tons of stuff to upload, but I don't really feel like doing it right this moment. I'm going to to sort through the gazillion submissions I missed and try to comment on a few of them instead.
Coming Soon!
A couple of stylistically different digital Kafka portraits.
Digital illustrations of the main characters (so far) of No Exit.
A new chapter of No Exit.

Posted 18 years agoSo when I promised you loads of brilliant submissions, I forgot that visiting my mom over break means 56k dial-up that is only acessible from her dinosaur of a laptop.
I'll be typing and doodling away on my own (currently internet-less unless I break down and go to Starbucks for free wireless) laptop, I won't really be able to load anything up here til mid-January. Or really comment on anyone else's art.
This also means that I won't be on AIM or FurryMUCK.
I think I've got the internet withdrawal shakes.
Any, expect a deluge of chapters and digital! art sometime in January.

Posted 19 years agoI'm knee deep in my first ever college! exams! right now. I'm sort of cracked out on caffeine, but other than that things are going well.
I have a nice long winter break starting soon which will probably result in a lot of writing and drawing. After a lot of sleep.
Coming soon: Chapter 4 of No Exit, a Jennie Bomb character doodle, and a Kafka reference sheet that shows her various usual girl:hyena ratios.

Fun With Words
Posted 19 years agoChapter 3 of No Exit is now up. I finally figured out how to format it as a .txt file so that you can read it on FA as opposed to downloading it. Hurrah! Eventually I'll go back and convert the old files of Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 to .txt as well.
I'm having fun with this story. I don't think of it as great literature, but it's very fun to write and people seem to be enjoying it. I've started reading it at Tuesday story night on FurryMUCK, but I'll always post it here first.
In other, offline news, I applied to a Creative Writing course for spring semester and got in. Hurrah.
In other other offline news, I've found that sometimes people having trouble accepting that when I say, "Sorry, but I'm not in the mood for a romantic relationship right now," I really mean, "Sorry, but I'm not in the mood for a romantic relationship right now."
Grah.

Drama? What Drama?
Posted 19 years agoI have a paper due this week. This means that I'll probably end up doing a lot of drawing and writing as a form of procrastination.
Question: Is the proper category for crappy sketches that are drawn by hand and then colored in Photoshop digital art or traditional art? As I'm referring to my drawings, however, the term "art" is used very loosely here.
That's right, people. I'm not a visual artist. My drawing is limited to in-joke cartoons I draw for my friends, doodling in the margins of my lecture notes, and character illustrations.
I'm a writer, dammit. Now go read No Exit before I post another chapter. Go on. I'll wait.
So there's drama on FA? About "cub" porn?
I think cub porn is disgusting. But I also think organizations like the K.K.K are disgusting. I may throw brickbats at them, but I'm not going to try to stop them from marching. Honestly, though?
Fuck drama. I hate it. Life is interesting enough without artificial histrionics.
Uh-oh, does my lack of drama mean I am not tr00 w3r3z?

Halloween ball of madness tonight. I'm being lazy and going as a beatnik (or Yelena of Transmetropolitan when I'm standing next to my friend who's going as Spider Jerusalem). However, some friends of mine needed last-minute costumes and are going to be my beatnik lackeys. So I'm actually going to be the leader of a beatnik girl gang. Hawt.

Posted 19 years agoThe first part of No Exit, ungoing story series of dystopian adventures is now up. Read! Or don't.
Maybe they'll be more story and possible crappy character illustrations sometime this weekend when I don't have so much frakking work to do.
I took a Meyers-Briggs personality test today in exchange for free pizza as part of my school's "Discover Yourself and Others" month. Apparently I'm an "Introverted Intuitive Thinker Perceiver". This means I:
"Seek to develop logical explanations for everything that interests them. Theoretical and abstract, interested more in ideas than social interaction. Quiet, contained, flexible, and adaptable. Have unusual ability to focus in depth to solve problems in their area of interest. Skeptical, sometimes critical, always analytical."
Whatever, Meyers-Briggs. You didn't tell me anything I didn't already know.

Generic Declaration of Existence
Posted 19 years agoHello, FA!
Anyway, I'm primarily a writer. I might eventually start posting my possible story series here. It's a bunch of shorts concerning the exploits of characters inhabiting a semi-futuristic, dystopian urban wasteland. Sort of like 1984 and A Clockwork Orange. But with furries. Yeah.
I draw (badly) on ocassion, mostly character illustrations.
I'm 18 and currently working through my freshman year of college, so I'm not going to be the type of person to posts things daily or even weekly. I just don't have the time, unfortunately.
I could best be described as a happy cynic. Myep... [insert long, awkward pause here] That's about it.
