Zootopia was brilliant!
Posted 9 years agoLast Saturday I saw Zootopia, the first movie I went out to see since the 2012 Aurora shooting. That movie was fucking gorgeous. There were plenty of hot fellas to fanboy over (Nick, Bogo, Clawhauser, Mayor Lionheart, the wolves and infamous tigers), plenty of OTP potential, and was very current in the themes presented.
The thing about the movie that hit real close was the systematic attack of predators. Minorities have had to deal with that for centuries, only now becoming mainstream. That's what the current Black Lives Matter movement is about! I'm really glad Disney actually went there in a time where you can't even see yourself represented properly...Oscars.

Posted 9 years agoThe first journal of the year, yay! lol
I wanted to go to Texas Furry Fiesta this year but got drama from my folks about it. They said things like "you don't belong there", as if it was their call to make. I tried to reason with them but they wouldn't listen, thinking that they know so much about it. Thing is, sensational depictions on television don't really make people experts. When we went in 2012, my parents didn;t have a positive view of the event because it seemed weird to be talking to people in fursuits. Then out of nowhere, some guy dressed as a Jesus came into the lobby and my folks didn't like that. ON the ride home I had to endure my mom's loud mouth and clueless opinions about the convention and the fandom. I don;t know why they came in though...
It's stuff like this that makes living in the Bible Belt irritating. Anything that is different doesn't fit society's dumb standards is seen as bad. They even brought church into it, asking me why I don't go to church but want to go to that event. Yet they wonder why I'm not crazy about religion. It makes it hard to be an artist when the stuff you draw is seen as filthy or wasting talent because of the topic. Yet these same people want you to draw other stuff, even pictures of themselves! I can see why that Ahmed guy with the clock was thrown under the bus last fall.
Also I have noticed that the older my parents get, the more we seem to fight. Ever since my mom had a stroke in late 2013, it's like she became a different person. Now that I became a caregiver, its hard when you live at home and don't have a car. Maybe I just wanted to do something fun other than watch my parents sleep all day or have to explain stuff that I know is really awesome.
I really don't see what the big deal is about TFF. It was a fun celebation of anthropomorphic animals. But apparently it's considered sinful *rolls eyes*. Lesson learned that I need my own place and transportation before I can really have fun cause #I'mTired.
PS I heard about a trip to Oklahoma we would go on for Spring Break so that's why I changed my mind about going this year.

Anybody know any roommates?
Posted 9 years agoMy current living situation is going to the shitter. Living at home has become annoying and arguments with my mom have gotten worse. Obviously it is time to move out. If anybody knows good roommates in the DFW area, PM me.

Representing a new Italy after World War II, she was one of the most popular liners on the express transatlantic route during the post war boom.

RIP James Horner
Posted 10 years agoI was saddened to learn that composer James Horner, who famously scored movies 'Aliens', 'Braveheart', 'Titanic', 'Troy' and 'Avatar' has died yesterday at 61 in a plane crash. One of the reasons the Titanic is special to me is because of the music from the film. It's quite magical and transparent.
He also scored 'An American Tail!'
My condolences to his family and friends. His spirit and influence will definitely go on and on.

Got a new laptop!
Posted 10 years agoI've been in need of a new one for a while, but when my old one was not working anymore, it was time to move on. The shitty part is that I didn't get to backup the data on the old laptop. Not to worry because I can remove the hard drive and extract it from that. The new laptop is another Toshiba Satellite, a C55D-B. It feels lighter, faster and more packed than the other machine and has a cam built in (which I can...utilize in a number of ways). Plus, this means I'm back online with my arts!
Enjoy y'all's Sunday.

Happy New Year!
Posted 10 years agoHope y'all enjoyed the celebrations. Originally, I thought to go downtown instead of staying at home and ended up doing the latter due to no money. Nonetheless, it was relaxing. Now that 2014 is in the books, now I hope 2015 will be even hotter~
Merry Christmas!

Lesson learned
Posted 11 years agoDon't but laptop batteries from those that are not the certified maker, because there's a chance it will suck after you get it. About two months ago I guess, my laptop battery went out after almost four years and I went to get replacement online which only worked for like, a day then doesn't come on after that. Of course I was certain to get my money back.
Since I'm without my laptop, I had to use the other computers at home to my chargin because of the very low amount of porn I get to look at haha. But seriously, I plan to get a new battery for my current laptop, by a new laptop and upgrade existing ones too.
However I am glad to have a new iPhone 4s after three years of drama with crappy ones.
Keep Calm and Fap On

On Depression and Suicide
Posted 11 years agoWhen I heard about the passing of Robin Williams, online and in real life I've been learning some insensitive things people say to or about people with clinical depression and suicide. It sucks even more when you hear some of this from close people who ought to know better. Some of the things I've heard were:
"Well just get over it. Life isn't that bad."
"He didn't need to commit suicide. That was selfish."
"He has so much going for him. What's he depressed about?"
"He wanted to die."
Yeah, these can make anyone cringe for sure. It would be greatly appreciated if they took time to listen more.
I had to edit this some because the journal I posted was a bit harsh. Sometimes I can be a hothead.
Anything other remarks about this you've heard in the past? Feel free to sound off below.

To be honest about immigration reform
Posted 11 years agoIt seems weird and hypocritical that immigration reform is being made more difficult than it is, when the United States is a product of immigration over the last five centuries. And some of those that came here were SLAVES! Whites get to talk honorably about their parent's migrating here, but when it comes to everyone else it's seen as some attack on the country social and economic fabric.

Too late to finish Bachelor's?
Posted 11 years agoAfter four years of taking basic classes, it's like I wasted time with remedial math classes, the thing holding me back with my interests in engineering. They have a pre-engineering program, but looking at how many maths I need to take it feels like even more delays. I'm not finished with the remedial courses I have left or the regular math courses.
While I'm not crazy about math, I'm good with designing stuff. I want to be able to do both. I know I'm not on a timetable to finish by a certain time, but the extra time I spent on remedial classes made me feel like I was at crossroads.
College furs have you felt like this?

What do you remind Jeff of?
Posted 11 years agoTook this from Mr. devin_otter devin_otter. Comment and I'll try and answer these for ya :P
1. Tell you what animal/creature you remind me of.
2. Tell you what color I think fits you.
3. Tell you how I feel about you.
4. Tell you what song you remind me of.
5. Tell you my favorite OC of yours. (If you have one...)
6. Tell you what season you remind me of.
7. Tell you what food/drink you smell like in my head.
8. Think of a random nickname for you.
9. Tell you what element you remind me of.
10. Order you to put this in your journal without using the words 'tag' or 'dare'.
I'm gonna add a twist on that first question also; since most of ya'll are already represented by an animal of some type, I'll bar your chosen fursona species from the first question. For example, if you're a dragon, I can't answer "dragon" for the first question.

Being a black man...
Posted 11 years agoIt sucks that my community has to be so judgmental to each other. It seems nothing anyone does is not good enough. And we just tear each other down. But I know a lot of that comes from being judged. You do what you know.
If the black community ever wants to move forward, we need to face our hangups and learn to love ourselves.

Infected molar extraction
Posted 11 years agoI had a trip to my dentist to have an extraction of my furthest lower left molar that was chipped and infected with decay. The procedure was pretty quick and painless, minus some pressure from them pulling it out. They were very knowledgeable and know what they were doing. I was also told that I had a gum disease that could take out the rest of my teeth in 5-10 years so a cleansing appointment is a must.
Now I'm just resting from the extraction with a gauge in my mouth where the space is. Hope y'all have a swell weekend!
Jeffy
PS: I always thought cavities came from sugar, but now I know they come from tooth decay by bacteria.
