General | Posted 11 years agoI didn't want to make a journal about this because I thought that I could keep drawing without people having to know. But I have an injury at the moment that affects my drawing abilities and speed. I'm going to get myself checked out at the doctors. The chance of me trying to draw from time to time is slim because sometimes I still like to force myself to do something when the pains aren't too uncomfortable. But until I get more info from the doctor about what's really going on with my body I'm going to take it easy and try not to post much of anything these days so I don't put any stress on my injury.
My Theory On The Fandom
General | Posted 11 years agoIs it just me or does the Furry Fandom seem heavily centered more on people's personal fetishes and dirty laundry rather than famous cartoon animals and well known animated shows? It almost seems as though being furry is completely detached from any interest in famous movies, shows and video games.
For example, if you are a Disney fan, without Disney itself existing there would be no fan-base for something so specific in identity. Where as when it comes to being a furry you don't even need to have a specific favorite show or game to join the fandom. In fact, in most furry art no specific famous cartoon animal is usually mentioned. It seems like you can just cook up a random creature, name it, slap a fetish to it and draw pictures of it giving fan service for your own personal arousal or someone else's arousal. Basically, it seems like being a furry first starts with having a fursona (usually an alternate version of yourself) and then giving your character weird personality traits, like being made of chocolate or eating your love interest.
The reason why I say this is because I see very little canon material for the shows and games I like here. All of my favorite characters are usually drawn being involved in someone else's secret fetish that [said particular character] would probably never get involved in. And when famous entertainment is not the topic at hand, everything seems to be about someone's random OC and how their fursona is [insert sexuality] and has a taste for [whatever fetish or off the wall interests]. Its like, becoming apart of the fandom at some point might start with interests in things like Scooby-Doo, Sonic and The Lion King, but the fandom itself seems to have a life and identity of its own independent from the material that probably attracted people to the community.
In my opinion the furry fandom seems more like a sexual/private interest/identity community more than anything else. I don't really feel like the furry fandom is about geeking on and on about your favorite characters all day or recreating your favorite scenes from your favorite animated entertainment through art. Its almost as if the fandom is about people warping or re-imagining the entire world around them to fit a specific set of fetishes and obsessions. Like the furry fandom is one big secret place that people go to get their jollies off publicly, but while hiding behind a created anthropomorphic character so people can remain anonymous.
Basically, it seems like the fursonas are the masks and the fetishes are the real focus here.
