also, Aquaria has fantastic music
Posted 8 years agoI think I've posted this before, but it bears repeating.
I often draw to this playlist. hope you like it, too!
the game itself is pretty amazing, though I haven't played it in ages.
it's a YouTube playlist of all the main pieces of music in the game!

remixes can be fun
Posted 8 years agoI'm sure you'll figure out VERY quickly which show's theme is largely a remix of this 1967 tune from Pierre Henry.
don't play it too loud, though -- some of the sonic frippery is piercing.

Posted 8 years agofirst off, thanks very much to the friend who got this for me!
I... have a lot of empathy for Mae, will say that straight off.
I was very much like her in some ways when I was younger.
but.. that doesn't mean I LIKED her, a lot of the time.
some of the conversations were -very- painful to go through.
I won't say which ones, but if you play this and run across them, you WILL know.
I feel about the characters in this pretty much the same way I did about those of Undertale,
except more so, as character development is a ton deeper in NITW.
I'll also admit there were some moments that scared the crap out of me.
again, you'll know them when you see them.
there's some seriously uncanny stuff going on in Possum Springs, and in Mae's head.
it's a trip worth taking, and apparently there is room for multiple journeys.
I'm not sure I'm ready for another run through this just yet, but soon... I will play again soon.

RUSH ROVER
Posted 8 years agoit's a one-author game with great gameplay and music and everything -- a rogue-lite arena shooter!
you can get it for $6 on Steam in Early Access mode -- but it's already pretty darn well polished.
I'm doing most of the English localization for it -- the creator, Radio, is Chinese and is awesome at listening to suggestions for improvement to the game.

I hope I'll be feeling better soon and back to wanting to chat and RP and such, but for now I'm staying off.

P.D.Q. Bach <3
Posted 8 years agothank you very much, Peter Schickele, for bringing us all the wonderful works of P.D.Q. Bach!
there aren't really any pieces of his I dislike at all, though I am pretty sure I'm not getting all the humor that a really seasoned classical-music connoisseur would catch!
here are a few of my favorites!
"Unbegun Symphony"
"Eine Kleine Nichtmusik" -- with handy subtitles!
it's a particularly fun performance of the "1712 Overture"!

please enjoy some kickass music from Machinae Supremacy
Posted 8 years agoJets'n'Guns Gold (don't bother with the non-Gold version!),
despite its very straightforward name, is a damned fine horizontal shmup
with way more beastly good music from the Swedish "SID Metal" band Machinae Supremacy.
if these don't make you want to Blow Shit Up, I just can't help you, bro or sis!
"Escaping the Krut" shows up only twice in the game, but both times are super awesome.
"FanVaCoolt" is the opening level music, and as with any great first-level music, it really sets the scene for what follows.
according to one of the comments, the title mean 'damn, that's cool!" in Swedish, and so it is.)
"Shop Music" amusingly continues to play while you are enjoying the shop's "weapons test" and Blowing Shit Up on the target course outside the space station!

but I won't ever have to worry about a neo-Nazi cackhead (threatening to blackmail) me again.

freedom is good
Posted 8 years agoone thing I will never condone is being part of an abusive relationship.
the fellow I mentioned in a now-deleted journal is thus part of my history.
he's been emotionally abusive and VERY manipulative the entire time, but he made the mistake of physically abusing me in three separate occasions on Tuesday.
that was the last straw, for me. last night, I told him we were done,
his response -- after I ignored the first voicemail he sent -- was to send me a second, very nasty voicemail claiming he'd emailed my parents telling them I was gay.
I'm not sure it's true, as I took pains to hide my contacts from him on FB before I dropped the bomb.
we'll see what comes of that. I believe my parents have long suspected I'm not straight,
if my folks ever ask, my policy is to tell them the truth. that might happen soon.
it might end up being okay, or I might get excommunicated from the RL family...
but I have plenty of close friends and furry-family, too, so I think I will get through this, whatever happens.
(and yes, this does mean I am back to my previous disposition on RPs and art.)

bit of a scary day (not so much, any more)
Posted 8 years agoI was at work around noon today when an area of strange distortion - sort of a shimmering frosted-glass like effect, -- appeared on the lower part of my visua field, just left of center. over a period of about 15 minutes. the area grew from roughly the visual size ot the Moon to taking up half the left side. The distortion appeared in the same portion each eye's vision when the other was closed, meaning it was not happening in the eyes themselves.
...meaning it was happening either in the optic nerve or somewhere in my brain.
at the same time, I was feeling a little dizzy and off-balance.
suspecting something serious might be afoot -- in particular, a stroke -- I summoned an ambulance. by the time they arrived about five minutes later, the visual disturbance had entirely vanished, though I still felt a bit dizzy.
I ended up spending most of the afternoon at a local hospital ER for various tests, including a CAT scan and the ever-fun MRI (aka "Welcome to the Washing Machine).
everything came back normal. the ER doctor recommended I see an opthamologist, which I will probably do next week. I hope she will be able to figure out just what happened. I'm still suspecting a brain or nerve oirigin, but whatever it was hasn't come back I hope I don't see it again anytime soon.
EDIT -- looks as thugh Startide and Araquan nailed it. a harmless ocular migraine is almost exacty what I experienced:

Privacy Badger is now breaking FA images in Chrome [FIX'D]
Posted 8 years agothis just started happening about 10 minutes ago.
with Privacy Badger enabled, I am now not able to see ANY images other than the banner ads on this site.
as soon as I disabled it, all the other images (submissions and user icons) showed up just fine.
if you use Privacy Badger. PLEASE use the "Did Privacy Badger break this site?" link on the PB widget to make a report.
*** UPDATE ***
for some reason, Privacy Badger had changed its handling of a.facdn.net and d.facdn.net to "Blocked" (red, all the way to left on slider).
moving the sliders for a.facdn.net and d.facdn.net to "Allow" fixes the problem.

my Dark Bunny Sauces just came in
Posted 8 years agoafter seeing their ad here on FA, and being a lover of good hot sauces, I checked 'em out, and made a little order a couple of weeks ago.
it came in today, and I've now sampled all four of the sauces I ordered. I got Terrified Trash Panda Coffee, Belligerent Binturong, Cowardly Chihuahua, and Crazy Carpet Shark.
they're all pretty good! I can definitely see having the Trash Panda Coffee on chicken because it tastes a bit like a super-hot mole sauce. <3

still have to decide how I'll ring in the New Year's after work... O'Drool's, Yeeush NA, Drain Pours NA, Bleck's NA, Low Kalibre...?
I wish our biggest local beer store stilll sold Bitburger Drive 0,0.
at least THAT non-alcoholic brew kinda tasted like beer, if not a very good one. :P
anyways, here comes 2017!
I'll be ringing in the New Year's with No Beers, as I'm now about a week into kicking that habit, but wanna at least pretend I'm partying hardy. XD

Posted 8 years agoWatership Down and Plague Dogs are two of my favorite books (and movies).
they definitely played a large role in my becoming a furry.
the particular way in which he portrayed intelligent animals has always seemed very clever to me, in that he tried to express things from the animals' viewpoints, but not in the manner of their being little humans with fur or feathers or whatnot.
I'm glad to know he lived a good long life, but it's yet another bit of sadness for a year that's been full of it from one end to the other.
