thoughts out for Puerto Rico and Dominica, and México
Posted 8 years agoMother Nature has become quite angry of late.
heart goes out to those in México who have passed on or otherwise suffered from the two huge earthquakes....
and to those in the Antilles who are suffering a repeat visit from severe tropical cyclones so soon after Irma.

not even kidding. this thing is a monstrous act of nature.
Richard Branson -- whose Necker Island took a direct hit -- was very lucky to survive the storm, along with the friends with whom he hunkered in his wine-cellar bunker.
almost none of the buildings on his property remain standing. same can be said for most of the northern Leeward Islands, US and UK Virgin Islands, as well, alas.

you may also get free art, if you are not dicky about it.
no guarantees, though!

[EDIT: Someone's claimed the secret gift-art spot, but feel free to poke and get verbally abused -- in a good way, of course!)

Chrome + FA just broke for me. (now un-broke)
Posted 8 years agoI can sign in through Microsoft Edjjjjjjjjjjjj....
but not Chrome, which is my preferred browser.
trying to sign in via Chrome, even with correct credentials, results in going back to the unsigned-in page. I cleared cookies and cache... it didn't help at all.
anyone else having this problem?

when doxxing goes wrong
Posted 8 years agoa day or so ago, I saw something on an anti-Trump FB group that just didn't sit right with me.
there was a photo of a bearded, bespectacled man wearing an "ARKANSAS ENGINEERING" shirt during one of the nasty tiki-torch rallies the alt-right held in Charlottesville this past weekend.
juxtaposed with this: a photo of a University of Arkansas professor, also with a beard and 'stache, and similar glasses, dressed in a nice suit.
folks on the group were absolutely frothing about this guy, demanding that the professor be fired.
only one problem. I picked it up immediately. the dude in the T-shirt and the dude in the suit? not the same person. close? yes? but not the same person.
then, I saw this on BBC a while ago.

moral: if you're gonna try to ruin someone's life, make effing sure you're aiming at the right person.
(ed: or better yet, just don't do it at all.)

Posted 8 years agoit's quite odd -- I just happened to wonder if the SAI 2 pre-release version had been updated lately, so I went and checked.

==============================
Zombies breaking into your house,
Zombies nomming your head!
Zombies moaning the whole night long,
Give them a Boot to the Dead!
Boot to the Dead! Nya, nya!
Boot to the Dead! Nya, nya!
Boot to the Dead! Nya, nya!
Boot to the Dead! Nya nya nya... nya...
(more nya nya nya-ing~)
They're shuffling along all the streets,
Shambling all day through the park!
Don't let them make a meal out of you -
Make sure your big boot leaves a mark!
Boot to the Dead! Nya, nya!
Boot to the Dead! Nya, nya!
Boot to the Dead! Nya, nya!
Boot to the Dead! Nya, nya etc.
(even more nya-nya-ing!)
Boot to the Dead! Nyaaaaaa
Boot to the Dead! Nya, nya!
Boot to the Dead! Nya, nya!
BOOT! TO! THE! DEAD!!
=========================
this notion popped into my head the other day and I just had to get it OUT!
I would be totally pleased if someone who (unlike me) can actually sing gave this a whirl --
just please give appropriate writing credit if you do, and let me know. :)

I've never commented to this person in any negative way, or even at all, that I recall.
it's so funny that I can't be bothered to even be bothered!
this particular critter had already proven to be kind of a major drama queen anyway, so good riddance. :P

Posted 8 years agothis is to help me compensate for missing my most profitable worknight,
and to cover my parts cost of replacing brake bolts and hardware ($~18)
it's your choice of colored sketch, or uncolored "inked" work for $6. extra characters are $4 each.
if characters or costumes are really complicated, I'll ask for a bit more.

dear Truck, I did not need this right now [resolved]
Posted 8 years agowhy you suddenly making weird thumping sounds from the passenger-front corner when I brake?
(EDIT: because one of the caliper bolts FELL OUT?! really??? I never even have heard of that happening before. i
the good news is that t'll be fixed soon, for not too much dosh.)
I nursed my truck home at 20-25 MPH the last few miles from where this started happening, but I was mighty disturbed by what I heard every time I had to use the brakes.
the Warchief must be notified at once!
I suspect a worn lower ball joint may be preparing to fail hideously, or something's gone awry with the actual braking system (rotors are v. worn, on their last possible machining). will have to see if a certain friend can take a peek at it before he does his work thing tomorrow.
I definitely am going to miss my own work, because there's no way it's gonna be fixed tomorrow. I may have to set up some sort of art thing to compensate for the missed workday, as Saturday tends to be my one somewhat okay money night of the week.

there's just something about The Beau Hunks' version that tickles my fancy just a bit more!)
