Convention - Dallas Sci-Fi Expo

Sci-Fi Expo
http://www.scifiexpo.com/DCC/Home.html
February 11 - 12, 2012
That's next weekend, Saturday and Sunday
We will have two tables in the Small Press area of the convention. You can see a map of the convention layout here:
http://www.scifiexpo.com/DCC/sfx-exhibitor.html We have not been assigned table numbers yet so you'll have to look for us. We are listed under our more mainstream-friendly name: Argyll Productions.
Since this is a non-furry convention and adult material is more frowned upon, our selection will mostly focus on books, non-adult comics and webcomics. We'll be bringing our own stuff and some of the Sofawolf and Dark Horse titles we distribute.
So if you're in the DFW area and are interested in this con then please come by and see us there. Check out the website for full details. The con is pretty cheap to get into, $15 for a day pass. You only pay more if you want specific celebrity autographs and photos with them. Speaking of the guests, they have quite a cool group of folks coming. The main guest is Eliza Dushku, from Buffy, Torchwood: Miracle Day, Doll House and more. Also, the majority of the Firefly/Serenity cast is coming too, which is pretty awesome. There are also a ton of comics artists and writers. Whole list is here: http://www.scifiexpo.com/DCC/sfx.html
Bay Area Roommate Search
Posted 13 years agoI'm reposting this for a friend. He is looking for one to two roommates. This is a house in the Northern California Bay Area. Please direct any questions/comments about this to
Rikoshi. I'm just spreading the word:
Hey, everyone! For those of you who don't know, my roommate Kohai and I are looking for one to two roommates to move in sometime around the end of March.
We live in a two-floor house with four-bedrooms, two full bathrooms upstairs and a half bathroom downstairs. The master bedroom and bathroom are going to become available, as well as a smaller room that has been used as an office thus far (but which is certainly big enough to be a bedroom). In addition to the kitchen and dining area downstairs, there’s plenty of floor space available, enough for multiple living areas to be set up. The house also includes a garage (currently used for storage and as a workshop) and a large, private backyard. Unfortunately, the landlord does not allow pets. There’s only a single neighboring house, and the neighborhood is quiet. We’ve never had any problems or complaints from anyone living nearby. Currently the rent is set at $2,500 per month plus the nicely socialized utilities of Santa Clara, which would be very affordable divided among four people (for those of you not familiar with housing costs in the area, this is a super good deal).
Kohai and I are non-smokers, friendly drinkers and pretty laid-back and easy to get along with (at least, I like to think so). We’re looking for about one to two people of similar ilk who will be available to move in around March or April. We’ll happily give interested parties a tour of the estate upon request. If you’re interested, or know anyone who might be, please feel free to be in touch with me (rikoshi@gmail.com) and Kohai (kohai.tiger@gmail.com). We’d love to hear from you!
We currently have a couple of nibbles, but we'd really, really like to have four people instead of just three. For one, we do have the kickin' master bedroom that's going to be opening up, and it would be cool to have a couple to fill it (or one person who doesn't mind paying for a huge room).
So yeah, get in touch with us if you can, and spread the word if you're so inclined!

FC 2012 meme
Posted 13 years agoWhere are you staying? In the Hilton with
teiran,
tealfox and
kyofoxtrot
What day are you getting there? I arrive in San Jose on Thursday morning and will probably be at the con in the afternoon.
Who will you be with?
teiran,
graveyardgreg and
confusedoo will all be selling books with me in the dealers room
Do you do free art? I usually draw a little smiley fox face when signing something I've written. :-P
Do you do trades? Usually only money in trade for books and comics, although once I trade books for custom furry glassware.
Do you do commissions? I guess this is really mostly driven towards artists. :-P
Do you do badges? See above.
What is your gender? Murr. I mean, male.
How old are you? 35
Are you taken? Usually I'm the one doing the taking... I mean, I have a mate, his name is Teiran.
What suits will you have? None, I mostly wear t-shirts and jeans at a con. :-D
Can I touch you? If I know you and you aren't creepy or smelly.
Can I talk to you? Certainly, although during the day long conversations generally don't happen during dealing hours.
Can I buy you lots of drinks? Not really. I don't drink much generally and it's not my preference to be around drunk people.
Can I give you lots of money? Hell yes!
Can I hug or snuggle with you? If you're a close friend you may hug, but in general I'm not that physically comfortable around people I don't know. No offense, it's just the way I am.
How tall are you? about 5' 8"
Are you nice? People seem to think so.
Are you cliquey? This always seems a weird question to me, but that might be because I go to cons for multiple reasons. #1 is business, so I'm not really going to be doing the random hangout thing. The times I'm not in the dealers room I'm networking with folks I may be working with or catching up with people I've been friends with for a while. That probably seems cliquey to some people, but I'm usually kept pretty busy at cons so in my off hours I like to spend time with friends.
Can I stalk you? I'm ashamed that this is even a question on here...no, no you may not stalk me.
Do you have an artist table? I'll be behind the
furplanet tables in the dealers room. We have books, we have comics! Come say hi and do some shopping.
Do you like parties? I'm cool with a smallish gathering of 8 to 10 people I already know, I'm not really into big gatherings any more and at most cons I retire early so I can open the table the next day. My mate on the other paw, will stay out too damn late. :-D
If I see you, how should I get your attention? Just say hi.
Can I hang out with you? Probably not, unless we're already friends and in that case you're probably not reading this meme to determine if we can hang out or not. :-P
How can I find you? I'd say look for the fat wolf, but that narrows it down to about half the con. Look for the fat wolf behind the FurPlanet table. There are two of us. You have a 50/50 shot and we're wearing badges. Good luck, Google Maps can no longer help you.

FurPlanet new releases at FC 2012 and general rambling
Posted 13 years agoI just wanted to drop a quick note here that I'm posting one new release per day for the next few days over at
furplanet, http://furplanet.livejournal.com and FurPlanet on Twitter so please watch the FurPlanet account here or join the community on LJ or follow us on Twitter to keep up to date with the latest FurPlanet news.
So yeah, I'll be making a return to conventioning with FC in January. I'm looking forward to being back in the saddle behind a dealers table again. I'll get a chance to catch up with some people I only usually see at cons and that'll be nice.
I'm so ready for this year to be over with, but the next couple weeks shouldn't be so bad.
I'm off early on Thursday then I get a 4-day break for Christmas. Next week I work three days then I get a 4-day break for New Year. Nice thing about this is that the bonus Friday and Monday off for each of those are company holidays so no vacation time used.
The week after New Year is a 4-day work week then the following week is a 3-day workweek due to FC. When I look at the calendar like that I realize how quickly that con is approaching and it's kinda scary. I've got some planning to do. At least I have my plane ticket and room all taken care of.
All for now, gotta run to work.

Announcement: Bad Dog Books is joining FurPlanet!
Posted 13 years agoCrossposted from
furplanet
FuzzWolf here. This is one of the big announcements we've been waiting with anticipation to make. We're all very excited about this and now we can finally share the good news. We had agreed that Bad Dog Books founder, Alex "Khaki" Vance, would be the best person to break this news so he posted this earlier today:
Bad Dog Books and FurPlanet have long been partners, and now it's time to tie the knot! So to speak.
Effective immediately, Bad Dog Books will transition from an independent publisher to an imprint of FurPlanet, bringing with it the portfolio of novels and the anthology series ROAR and FANG. The anthologies will continue to be produced by their current staff, the books will continue to be sold with the BDB logo— everything will keep going just as it was, only better.
Since its inception in 2005, BDB hasn't had its own printing and distribution facilities. These had to be secured elsewhere: first through the print-on-demand service Lulu.com, later by contracting FurPlanet. This has always been an expensive proposition, and by joining FurPlanet and becoming an imprint, a lot of overhead is eliminated.
In many ways it's business as usual. The finishing touches are being put on the fourth volumes of FANG and ROAR, we have a few cool new products on the horizon for 2012 (you'll hear more about those soon enough), and all of us at BDB will keep at our mission to deliver fine furry fiction to our readers.
Which means, concretely, that the authors, editors and artists will get more money. Score!
Of course, Bad Dog Books cares about readers as much as authors, and FurPlanet shares our passion. So until the end of December all BDB books and comics will be discounted $5.
Further, FurPlanet already has experience with e-book distribution, something we've been struggling with at BDB. This is something I'm personally very excited about, as it'll make our portfolio of furry fiction more convenient and accessible to modern readers.
We're very excited about the opportunities this merger will offer. Better rates for authors, ebook distribution and tighter partnership with our friends at FurPlanet…
We can't wait to see what 2012 will bring!
As you can see, we've got our work cut out for us in 2012!
In addition to this news, we are also sponsoring Alex as a Special Guest at this year's Furry Fiesta! So if you've been a fan of Bad Dog Books, Heathen City or just Alex's lovely voice on audiobooks, don't miss your chance to meet him and attend some panels he'll be running at this year's Furry Fiesta. Registration is open now!

Oklacon 2011 meme
Posted 14 years agoWhere are you staying? - One of the awesome cabins, the only way to fly :-D
What day are you getting there? - Thursday, probably sometime in the afternoon
Who will you be with? - Rooming with Savrin, Regek and Webster.
Do you do free art?, Do you do trades?, Do you do commissions?, Do you do badges? - Lumping these all together to answer "no" since I'm not an artist.
What is your gender? - Maaaaaaan
How old are you? - 35
Are you taken? - Yes, 10 years together with the wonderful
teiran
What suits will you have? - Not a suiter
Can I touch you? - If I know you, don't be creepy. :-P
Can I talk to you? - Sure, just don't tell me about your character's long history or your 5 book epic, I'm on vacation.
Can I buy you lots of drinks? - Probably not, no hotel bar at Oklacon. I'm sure I'll squeeze in a drink with friends at some point though.
Can I give you lots of money? - If you want to. :-D
Can I hug or snuggle with you? - If I know you, I don't get all touchy/feely with people I don't know well.
How tall are you? - 5'8"
You look pissed off out of suit, can I come up to you? - This question seems delightfully random. I don't suit.
Are you nice? - Generally yes, I try to be nice. We all have days or times when we're run down. Sadly I have had a traumatic loss in my family recently so I'm more likely to be sad than pissed off, just bear with me while I get through this.
Are you cliquey? - I don't think I am, what does that even mean?
Can I stalk you? - ...no. If only stopping all stalkers was that easy.
Do you have an artist table? - Not at this con. I toyed with the idea of bringing some stuff to sell, but I need a break and I'm kinda making Oklacon the one con I don't sell at. I may still end up bringing a small box of stuff in the car just in case I get the urge to sell something.
Do you like parties? - Yes and no. I really prefer small gatherings where I can have a conversation with friends. I'm not a big party guy, probably goes back to me not really drinking much.
If I see you, how should I get your attention? - Just say hey Fuzz or something.
Can I hang out with you? - Maybe. I'm mostly there to just relax. If you're a friend feel free to come chat to me.
How can I find you? - I'll be wearing a conbadge thingy with my FuzzWolf and Inky Spots badges on them. Since it's cold I'll also be wearing my Oklacon hoodie at night and it has my name embroidered on it, which is super cool and a good reason for everyone to go Super Sponsor at Oklacon. *plug* :-D
Contact info: Normally I would tweet on my FuzzWolf2000 or FurPlanet Twitter accounts, but Oklacon is so deep in the woods that I have no cell signal, which is one of the reasons I enjoy this con so much. So, you won't be seeing much online from me for a few days.

My Little Butthurt
Posted 14 years agoIn honour of Pony Week here on BronyAffinity, I'm changing my icon to my pony character, Inky Spots, for the week. Artwork by
agentelrond, you can see the full version of the badge here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6026695/
Of course I also enjoyed the first episode of season 2, which aired today. Hearing John de Lancie's voice in MLP was cool and his character is awesome. Also, this episode proves Fluttershy is the best pony. So there. :-D
EDIT: I've added a song:
I used to wonder what butthurt could be
'til Dragoneer trolled the fuck out of me
FA Banner, tons of comments
A shitload of journals, pro and con
Posting memes, is an easy feat
and trolling makes it all complete, yeah!

Bitter Lake distribution news - FurPlanet in the US
Posted 14 years agoI'm pleased to announce that we'll be distributing the new movie, Bitter Lake, to the US market.
If you have not heard about Bitter Lake yet, please check out the trailer on their website at http://bitterlakethemovie.com
Bitter Lake is an EZwolf and Shay co-production. It recently had its premiere at Eurofurence and the screening there was a smash hit.
Everyone here at FurPlanet is very excited about Bitter Lake and we couldn't be happier about being involved in bringing it to furry conventions all over the US and to FurPlanet.com.
More detailed information and an order page will be coming soon. At the moment we are estimating we will have the DVDs in stock by the latter part of September. So keep your eyes on this space for more info when the time comes!
Bitter Lake
trust is a fickle thing...
After more than a decade of peace the proud and noble kingdom of Valanor is suddenly torn apart by a terrible civil war. After 12 years, when the dust settles and resources start to dwindle, the starving people of Valanor cry out for peace, forcing the leaders of Tier, Sinnah, Daneth and Osgard to lay down their arms and meet each other at the negotiation table.
As each province prepares an envoy to find a diplomatic solution at the Kingdom's only neutral ground, an ancient and dark organization plots its return. Unbeknownst to the leaders of the four warring provinces this old enemy will stop at nothing to crush any hope of lasting peace.
Can the four envoys put their old hatreds aside and forge a bond of trust? Or will those that crave the blood and terror of war get their way?
Whatever the outcome, the fate of Valanor will be decided... at Bitter Lake.

Draco hug and RMFC
Posted 14 years agoJust a quick note to say I'm home from Rocky Mountain Furcon. I've got a lot of e-mail, post-con inventory, orders, etc to catch up on so bear with me if you're waiting to hear back from me on something.
I don't know if I'll have time to write up a full con report, but I'll likely give an abbreviated what I can remember report on KnotCast this week.
In the meantime, here's a funny video of Voldemort's awkward hugging of Draco Malfoy. I was introduced to this by
rikoshi this weekend and we had many laughs over it. Enjoy.

RMFC 2011 convention meme
Posted 14 years agoYay, meme time. This will be my first time at Rocky Mountain Furcon and I'm quite looking forward to it. I also have never visited Denver apart from 20 minutes in their airport to transfer to my flight to San Jose for FC and that doesn't really count. So I'm kinda looking forward to this. I probably won't see much of the city, but maybe I can get out somewhere nice for dinner one night at least. Anyway, here's the typical convention meme for anyone interested in finding me at RMFC.
Where are you staying? - Con hotel
What day are you getting there? - Sadly I'm short on vacation time so I'll be arriving late Thursday afternoon and leaving Sunday evening.
Who will you be with? - Rooming with
confusedoo,
kmhirosaki and
nuwisha55.
Do you do free art?, Do you do trades?, Do you do commissions?, Do you do badges? - Lumping these all together to answer "no" since I'm not an artist.
What is your gender? - Maaaaaaale, yeah.
How old are you? - 35
Are you taken? - September will be my 10th anniversary with my mate!
What suits will you have? - Not a suiter
Can I touch you? - If I know you, don't be creepy. :-P
Can I talk to you? - Sure! I have books and comics to sell you.
Can I buy you lots of drinks? - I don't drink much, but might not say no to a drink at the bar. I think I'll be hanging with enough friends that finding alcohol won't be a problem though.
Can I give you lots of money? - FUCK YES!
Can I hug or snuggle with you? - If I know you and we're close. No, closer. Yes, there, just like that. Ooh.
How tall are you? - 5'8"
You look pissed off out of suit, can I come up to you? - This question seems delightfully random. I don't suit.
Are you nice? - Generally yes, I try to be nice. We all have days or times when we're run down. Since I'll be dealing, podcasting, having dinner with friends, etc I will likely be very busy most of the con, if I don't remember to eat regularly my mood declines. Cut me some slack if you see me rushing anywhere, that usually means I'm busy.
Are you cliquey? - I don't think I am, what does that even mean?
Can I stalk you? - ...no. If only stopping all stalkers was that easy.
Do you have an artist table? - I have a dealers table, FurPlanet Productions whoohoo! Most of the con you can find me in the dealers room. Come by and see me and please buy some books.
Do you like parties? - Yes and no. I really prefer small gatherings where I can have a conversation with friends. I'm not a big party guy, probably goes back to me not really drinking much.
If I see you, how should I get your attention? - Just say hey Fuzz or something.
Can I hang out with you? - Honestly, I will likely be busy and I know there will be friends there whom I'll want to hang out with.
How can I find you? - Guess I should've read all the way to the end before answering this earlier. Well, if you missed it I'll be in the dealers room behind the FurPlanet tables.
Contact info: If you want to keep up with me during the con, follow me on Twitter FuzzWolf2000 and/or FurPlanet. I'll likely tweet during the con as long as I have signal, especially if we're going to have an author signing at the table or something.

STRIPCON, this Saturday 8/6/11, 10am to 5pm
Posted 14 years agoTeiran and I will have 2 dealer tables at STRIPCON, formerly the Dallas Webcomics Expo. This is a slightly more mainstream convention so we'll be focusing on our webcomics and some of our general audience books and magazines.
So if you're in the DFW area, consider attending this con. It's a one-day only convention, admission is only $5!
Check their website for more details: http://stripcon.net/
Located at: The Southfork Hotel – Plano, Texas map

ROAR 4 open for submissions
Posted 14 years agoHi all,
The editor of ROAR has informed me that he has not received many submissions for the next volume and their original deadline is July 31st. That deadline is being extended until he can get enough quality material together to make a decently sized anthology. I told him I'd try to help spread the word about this so here we go.
http://baddogbooks.com/submissions/.....4-submissions/
ROAR, an anthropomorphic fiction anthology, is once again open for submissions for our fourth volume. For our next release we are looking for stories that address celebrity. While the pop star surrounded in paparazzi may be the image of celebrity splashed over the media, I encourage submitters to look deeper at the idea of fame. This is a topic with no shortage of ink already spilled in its name. What I am looking for are stories that show a fresh furry perspective on celebrity, shining light on it from different perspectives. There are many ways to be famous—or infamous. Explorations of alternate types and levels of celebrity are encouraged. Creativity and uniqueness in your story will be a definite plus.
Please remember that ROAR is a general audience publication highlighting anthropomorphic characters. Desired story length is 5,000-10,000 words, though submissions outside those lengths may be considered. The submission deadline in July 31st. Submissions, as well as questions, can be addressed directly to BuckCTurner@baddogbooks.com.
Buck C. Turner
Editor of ROAR
So if you'd like to add something to a well-produced non-adult furry anthology this is your opportunity. As a reminder, this is a paid venue so you would receive a check in addition to a contributor's copy of the book once it's complete.
If you have any questions I can try to field them here or run them past Buck. Alternatively you can e-mail Buck directly at the address above.

Home from AC and back to work
Posted 14 years agoJust a quick note to say I got home safely from Anthrocon. The only part about this past week that sucked was the bad weather I hit on the drive home which slowed me down. The con was awesome. We had great sales, lots of our
furplanet titles sold out, some of our authors spent time behind the table, I got to get to hang with some new friends and get to know some old friends a bit better.
This year was a real good mix of business and spending time with friends.
It's Wednesday morning now, I'm still pretty exhausted but getting ready to head to my day job early since I have an appointment later in the day.
Maybe I'll rest this weekend.
Longer report will probably be in audio format on this week's
knotcast. Write in to the show with your AC con reports if you went. E-mail is knotcast[at]foxstuffers.com
All for now!

What's your poison?
Bitch beer, Bailey’s, Tequila Sunrise, Funky Juice
Can I commission you?
No, I’m not an artist and if you mean stories then no because I’m slow enough as it is.
What events will you be attending?
Most of the con I’ll be at the FurPlanet tables in the dealers room. Other than that I'll be having dinner with friends, attending the artists/dealers reception on Friday night and that's about it.
Oh and I'm hoping to attend the Brony meetup on Friday at 3pm.
Can I hug you?
If you’re a friend of mine then sure.
How tall are you?
5' 8”
Are you nice? Or do you think so (no personal references needed)?
I try to be, most of the time I succeed. Just please, please don’t try and stop me if you see me rushing around. I run around at cons like a headless chicken sometimes, especially when trying to set up or breakdown the dealers room.
Are you friendly?
People seem to think so.
How long are you going?
Flying in Thursday afternoon and driving out early Monday morning.
Do you have an artist table? If yes, what will you be selling?
FurPlanet will have three tables in the dealers room, against the wall, tables A16/17/18. I’ll be selling our books and comics and showing off our awesome new releases, so excited!
I’ll have a lot of stuff so come and buy some. It’ll give me less to pack in the car on Sunday if you buy things. :-D
Do you like parties?
They’re okay. I’m not that comfortable if I don’t know a lot of the people there, but I get together with small groups of friends at cons for a couple drinks and hanging out.
Can I give you a gift?
I guess so. I never know what to say though. :-P
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
If I’m behind a table and not already talking to another customer, just ask.
Anything else?
Follow me on Twitter FuzzWolf2000 and FurPlanet
Also, I'm bringing my podcast gear with me so I may try to grab a friend or two and do a little recording. I'm hoping to grab Tal from Unfurled for a little while and record something, maybe a con report or just a BS session. We'll see, no promises on that. I'll also be using the recorder on my phone to grab some on the spot interviews at the Brony meet for the Bronyville podcast.

A-kon 22, Dallas TX, this weekend
Posted 14 years agoHey y'all,
If anyone here is going to A-Kon in Dallas this weekend, I'll be there with
teiran We'll be selling
furplanet stuff in the dealers room.
We have awesome table positioning, right across from one of the doors and next to Happy Jackal Graphics. So come see us, buy some furry stuff at an anime con. Support our little genre in a bigger world. :-D
We're not bringing the whole catalog, but we will have quite a bit of our titles and will also have some Sofawolf books too. We tend to bring more clean stuff and web comics to this con. We will have a few adult titles though and if you make a request we may be able to get it for you since we're local.
Also, we'll be co-funding a furry room party with Furry Fiesta on Saturday at 5pm-ish. Stop by our table or keep an eye on Twitter for the room #. Once we know it we'll be tweeting about it.
We will be donating some FurPlanet stuff for door prizes too!
All for now, hope to see you there.

Anthro Aquatic Literary Editing
Posted 14 years agoKory here is a manager at a Borders bookstore up in Connecticut and has been cool enough about furry lit to order books from both FurPlanet and Sofawolf to sell in the bookstore. There are several pics of furry books from fandom publishers displayed on the shelves of a real bookstore because of this guy and that's pretty awesome.
So I'm putting the word out there that he is offering editing services for furry writers.
You can read full details at the following link: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5697133/
As a publisher I would always advise any writer to put their work through several levels of editing before submitting a book to me for publication. You should edit it yourself several times and then hand it over to others for an unbiased review. You'll be surprised how much another pair of eyes will spot that you've missed. Its really easy for our brains to auto-fill over any mistakes when it comes to editing or own work. So my recommendation would be to get a group of friends to read through your work and note it. Take those notes, fine tune your work and then go have a pro look through it again. Looks like his rates are pretty reasonable and having an editor is a worthwhile investment to improve your writing whether you're seeking publication or not.
Just my two cents. If you work with Kory, tell him Fuzz sent ya.

Doctor Who season 6 trailer fffffffff! :-D
Posted 14 years agoSpoilers, obviously. But goddamn this is so cool. I got chills.
Oh and once you've watched it, pause it at 36/37 second in for a total OMG WTF moment!
Y'know you'd think after being a fan for over 30 years new seasons of this show would seem mundane to me, but damn if Doctor Who isn't still the most exciting thing on TV today.
Fuck, I love this show. :-D

If you’re a Kyell Gold fan, he’ll be signing books at my table at some points over the weekend. The schedule is yet to be determined on that. If you want to be kept in the loop about what I’m up to, follow me on Twitter. I’m FuzzWolf2000 there. Provided I have signal in the dealers room I’ll be tweeting about special events and items for sale along with other updates. I look forward to seeing y’all there.

New icon
Posted 14 years agoI've had my "fucking drums" icon for over a year now. I'm sad to say goodbye to such an awesome icon, but when I saw this one I had to have it.
The original is from a piece of birthday art by
alflor and can be seen here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5313064/ He also posted the icon separately so I could use it for stuff.
Anyone who knows me even a little bit will agree that fuck yeah, this icon totally works for me. :-D
Thanks again
