Happy Holidays everyone!
Posted 9 years ago(Ah, i didn't get my shit together in time to make a card this year x_X )
For me, holidays have become a milestone, a shared experience in celebration of another lap around our sun. We hug those that are with us, and remember the ones that aren't. We reminisce on fond stories, and create new ones.
So lift a glass and toast this cheer, "Hooray to us, we survivors of the year!"

FWA wrap
Posted 9 years agoThe last con I attended was AnthroCon '09, almost seven years ago. Seven fucking years! O.o
And man, it was wonderful to be back among my people *^_^*
Things have changed in all that time, of course. It was really fun taking everything in (phrasing!); however, I was on an untenable amount of prescription painkillers, so i would like to both apologize to anyone i was spacey with, and thank all the dealers that didn't let me pay twice :D
Talking to folk--it was amazing to get back to talking to people iRL. Thanks to everyone that said hi! I haven't been con socail in a lifetime, but overall i didn't feel too awkward :}
Dealer's Room--Wow! I mean, booth production values these days is ritzy! It was a real treat to see that sort of level at fur cons. It's gone from being heavy loaded on prints and cds to a wide variety of craft goods. Buttons, bookmarks, stickers, puzzles, leeeaaaather, and so many fursuit supplies! 8)
Artist Alley--Now this was interesting! Outside of crafts, it was very gig-based; not much if anything to sell, but rather, doing at the con comms, via badges, sketchbooks, etc. Something new was the communal laminators--what a neat addition! It really looked to open up a lot of business for a lot of furs :)
I'm definitely looking forward to the next one, and certainly inspired to keep working on my health to have more time with y'all :)

Preferred resolution for posting?
Posted 9 years agoA lot can change in five years. Even more stuff in ten years! In this instance, i'm thinking of file and screen size. With tablets that have higher res than my monitor, and download speeds almost a second thought, what's the current portion size?
I tend to aim for ~100k, ~800x640, but that's so early aughts', right? What would folk like to see for posting? :)

Furry arc in One Piece!
Posted 9 years agoAh, viva la minks! I've felt the series has had pacing problems, but with some of the most incredible background art and page splashes, i didn't mind. And now with all these hot little minks (anthros), i'm afraid it can just hang out here for awhile ;)
The anime series GATE is really fun! As the name implies, there's a gate that links Japan to another world of high fantasy. Great production all round; interesting, intense interactions between cultures. Ever imagined how refugees from a fire dragon attack would be handled? How tanks fare against legions? Magic in the city and hellis in the villages? yaz plx!
Yes yes, Gutz is off the boat ;) I have the first three blurays, and while the production value is overall awesome, it's, you know, pacing issues :D The first did a great job, i think, but the second and third have furthing issues with.. with me now, pacing!
Pacing pacing pacingapiwut?
Ahem. Sorry. Been adjusting my meds the last couple weeks ^_^
Bleach! how disparate the power levels! how is what who? But i keep reading you anyway!
I've been fascinated with the manga Kamisama No Iutoori (As the Gods Will). I'd start with the second series (currently running), and read till, oh, chapter 104. Then go back, read the first series (much shorter at 21 chapters). Then back to second series at chapter 105! Warning!! this a really gory and violent manga, but damn it makes for good insomnia binging ^_^
Same with Gantz. Utterly fucking nuts. Greeaaat late night stuff.
And JoJo's coming back! Love!! This is an artistically bananas series, so delightfully over the top :) Got me through a loooots of bad nights. Dramatic, fun, and just oh man what the hell?! :)
All right! As usual, take care n be kind :)

embracing the old ways
Posted 10 years agoah, markers and pencils.. a step or two from arts and crafts mebbe ^_^; but i know em and luv em :)
so instead of going all digi, i'm sorta going renfest candlemaker--interesting to see the old ways of doing it, but they're a buck a billion in the store, right? and since i've seen a few questions about techniques, i figured i'd do a run of a color job.
take care guys! life's too short!

8 MONTHS since my last journal? o_O
Posted 10 years agoJees, I'm sorry ^_^
First off--goddammit i miss all of you so much. This past FWA I pill'ed up and had Nesil take me around. We did a couple laps (I almost fell on an escalator :p ), and I was done. But man, it felt so good being around a con again--my last one was AC '09. I had been attending fur cons, 2 to 4 times a year, until then.
But, all the more reason to keep working at getting better.
Second--our move went fine! We're settled in, and my workspace area is much better now. Our cats were very traumatized though; they'd only lived in that one apartment. At first they hid everywhere, even in the covered litter boxes. I made a fort of a comforter and pillows for them to hid in, and damn, they did for three days. But they and we are quite settled now :)
Third--still trying to bring my art back up to snuff. I feel that i lost years of development, and it hurt for a long time to see other artists continuing to grow and rock it. But man, it has been amazing to see artists bring it to the next level again and again :)
That's mostly what's on my mind now. Take care and have fun :)

IR ilde (moving!)
Posted 11 years agoLots of stuff happening here in the last couple months! Bottom line, Nesil and I are moving! We've been in this apartment for 7(!) years now, which, outside of childhood homes, is the longest either of us has stayed in one place. With the help of both our folks, we've gotten a nice little end-unit townhouse to finally settle down in.
There are so many people I want to reply to, and pics I wanna work on! I just wanted to let furs know i've been bizzy, and hopefully will settle down and get back to stuff late August.
Take care, be good, stay safe :)

new things!
Rick and Morty! Justin Roiland was handed down by god almighty to send this blessing upon creation. AA++ Space Dandy! It's loud stupid fun, swathed in saturated colors and sets. -A Kill la Kill ramps up ramping up, flaboyant and stylish, but w/o the heart that their earlier Gurren Lagann had. +B Samurai Flamenco is an odd duck, a hot mess of tropes not unlike American Horror Story's first two seasons. C And Chozen is like that, but Spinal Tap/Deathklock/not really landing. C

Posted 11 years agothe nurse still hasn't come back. the iv hadn't been put in right, and the fluids were starting to bubble under my skin. with no choice i start to pull it out, cringing as the metal syringe coming out turns to plastic, to metal, to plastic as i pull painful inches out.
i stagger into the hallway, my head exploding inside, my legs only limping. a room i duck into contains a single wall, infinite in size. it intersects an infinite maze, pores revealing the things that squirmed along inside.
struggling, i make it outside. a furry con is going on at a hotel across the street; i figure i can find help there. but inside there are just empty tables, hotel rooms being cleaned by room service.
this repeats a few times, variated, until i wake up.
not a bad night's sleep.
i start to crawl out of bed, tired, head splitting. i want to call out sick to work. and then i realize...
a cup of coffee, handful of aspirin, and an hour trying to relax, and it's on to the day. hopefully the day'll be better, but there's never a guarantee.

Posted 12 years agoYesterday Nesil drove me and the abandoned kitty up to my folks' place. We dropped off kitty, who will be given to good people they know in the spca. Then vets, adoptions, and a good home. :)
left behind
Posted 12 years agoSo we just took in an orange kitty that had been left behind by tenants moving out their apartments. Poor thing had been wandering the block crying for her family about a week, we gathered from others. She's been put up in my bathroom, till we can get her to a vets and then an adoption shelter this weekend. I swear, I just wanna swat idiots that do that to their companions >:(
Not dead yet!
Posted 12 years ago So, about three and a half years ago, I was struck by who knows what. My head hurt in ways it shouldn't, intense noise/pain, everything was swimming, vertigo jiggling my eyes--constantly. Not attacks or spells, just a constant shit storm. I went to several doctors, specialists, ran gauntlets of tests and scans, and ultimatily was told "You're fucked." Well, not in those words, but pretty close.
I did what I could, but with lack of support from the medical community and the relentless nature of my condition, I fell into hopelessness. In the first six months, I survived two suicide attempts. Facing down the rest of my life, unable to get out of my own head, isolated from almost everyone because of my condition, the possibility of never seeing so many of my friends and furs that I loved.. horrible was too kind a word.
Thanks to Nesil and my family, I stuck through it, and found reasons to keep going on. The reasons were always in front of me, of course, but it's hard to see when caught in an impenatrible miasma. And thanks to them finding a new set of specalists to see, I'm now on a very promising road.
I've now been to a physical therapist thrice, and a specalist MD once for additional meds (and possibly another nuerologist down the road). Nesil even picked up one of those old person pill cases and helps sort all the horse-sized pills I take now, bless em.
Apparently, what I have is some vestibular disorder due to a congenital condition. An early indicator was the fact that I had frequent and intense migraines growing up (often leading to vomiting or ER trips); that alone gave me an 86% chance of this happening. The mild to severe concussions I had playing football, horseback riding, general rough-housing or car crashing made this condition almost inevitable.
For now, there's no cure. This is rare enough that it's an orphaned condition--too isolated to make any money in reseaching. However, there are treatments and meds that make this more manageable. And in time, if that starts making appreciable headway, we can start with other treatments, such as electro stimulation to the nerves in the ear.
I miss you all alot, and I really hope I can get to the point where I can travel or go to cons again. I hope to start being more present online at least, but, no promises yet--it's still kinda day to day.
Be kind, and take care :)

Guinness Record for Fursuit Parade?
Posted 13 years agoSo, according to Conan O'Brien, there was a world record bikini parade in FL, which was 450 women strong.
I know AC has had fursuit parades muuuuch larger than that, and it's waaaaay more impressive. Worth a submission eh :)
