Fox's Megaplex Journal 2018
Posted 7 years agoFox's Megaplex Dos and Dont's for 2018
So as many of you know this is my ONE convention a year so I always try to make it count. If you're going to be attending Megaplex, You'll see me at my Booth in the Dealers Den Right next to Gen. There's a few things to keep in mind for this year and I really want things to run smoothly So here's a few Dos and Don'ts to help you guys through the very easy process of socializing with me.
ONE THING TO NOTE My Father will be Attending the Convention at my Table on Saturday and possibly Sunday. He will be helping me take on business transactions and overall helping me out. He's a tall, boisterous chronic extrovert who originally worked as A general Manager for a car dealership, he's very friendly but also a part of an older Generation. He is not technically a Furry but supports me and what I do and that's amazing. My Dad does not get a lot of concepts that you may or may not take for granted so please don't be offended if he says something that seems mean-spirited or aggressive. He's 65 years old, he's not a member of the fandom, he's going to get your species wrong, I'm sorry. :p
On to the Dos and Don'ts!
DO ask my permission before engaging in a hug or similar. I have issues with being touched and I'm trying not to be a porcupine for the con.
DON'T come up behind me and hug me, touch me, or otherwise attempt to startle me. I will not react well to this and you may see yourself ignored by me for the rest of the convention if you do it intentionally.
DO talk to me about my comic or how I make my Chirrs and Dolphoria. I love love LOVE talking about how I make my Products and am happy to help give pointers if your'e looking to trying out plush and art doll making for yourself.
DON'T try to guilt me into lowering my prices on my plush. they take a lot of work and time and effort. This is really rude when I already take a loss on them by selling them at their current price point. It's a labor of love I want to share with the world and at I at least want to make back what I invested in them.
DO talk to me about the animatics, the other aspects of my Projects, working with Gen. It's lots of fun, and I am happy to chat about this.
DON'T treat me like I'm Gen's Secretary, We're both autonomous people with our own reasons for interacting or not interacting with certain people. Please respect that.
DO Commission me or buy some of my stuff, Or Gens stuff! Or even my Dad's stuff. Goodness knows my father is going to try you sell you something. One year during a convention he made $1 badges of general stick-figure animal people out of sharpie and laminated them. He get's a big kick out of it, humor him.
DON'T Block my Table if you want to talk to me or anyone else who is present at the table at the time. Please kindly move to the side if there are customers waiting to talk to me. And Please move if I ask you to move so I can continue to conduct business which is a large reason for why I'm there.
DO ask me if I need anything, such as a snack, a drink etc. While I sometimes have helpers for this, sometimes they're indisposed so something quick to eat or drink would be super appreciated.
DON'T give me candy. I know this seems like a nit-picky request but my body does not react well to sugar in stressful environments. And I can't afford to crash halfway through the day. Acceptable snacks and drinks are things like closed container bags of chips or Peanuts. Drinks I prefer water but might need a Cocacola every so often. Best to err on the side of caution and get me bottled water If I haven't specified a preference.
DO feel free to help me with some minor packing if I seem to be struggling when the den is getting ready to close.
DON'T follow me to my Room. I am going to be very tired at the end of the day and will not be good for much of anything besides sleeping immediately after the Den closes. Hoping I'll be an entertaining person is going to be rather disappointing for you. I MAY mingle once i've gotten some rest but I will do that OUTSIDE of my room. My room itself is for doing commission homework and sleeping. Not socializing.
I'm sure there's more but I should keep this more general than specific. Gen also has a good Dos and Don'ts list that is a bit more comprehensive than Mine and also a very good read: https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/8815826/

Overlord Comic Anniversary Stream!
Posted 7 years agoDuring the weekend of March the 24-25th we're going to have a marathon stream to Celebrate Isla Aukate's 5th anniversary. We're still working on all the logistics and what I'll be doing for it but it's definately in the realm of "making comics." And very likely having a Cameo Arc to celebrate.
Come join us for the usual comic mayhem while we share fun trivia and behind the scenes info in how we have developed and kept the comic going strong.

Posted 8 years agoBack home but the trip and being around family still takes a bit out of me. I'm tired and I need to rest so I'm at the best I can be for new years court reporting. Sorry to disappoint if anyone wanted a commission before then. I'll most likely be resuming commissions tuesday Jan 2nd at the absolute earliest.
Happy holidays and I'll see you after the new year!

Patreon fee reversal! woo hoo!
Posted 8 years agoSo Patreon reversed it's decision to go through with it's new fee structure of which I am super happy about. I will be keeping my patreon live but will also be putting feelers out to other funding sources for those who wish to support me in other ways. I'm looking into Gumroad and how it will manage such things, and of course Drip. Because putting ones eggs in different baskets is a good idea in most circumstances when it involves funding.
Whats this mean for you guys?
As I diversify my funding sources I will be centralizing where you can get that bonus content before it's released onto the main websites that allow it, like Patreon, Drip and Gumroad. I will also be working on tangible goods to reward people for being long-time patrons. I haven't yet determined what those tangible goods will be but I have 3d modeling software, a 3d printer and lots and lots of casting resin. We'll see what I can come up with over the next few months.
What does this mean for me?
Basically the ability to move at least partially away from doing constant commission work. Doing art for a living is very fullfilling but I really want to work on my own projects and be able to share that extra content with you guys. That means more Color pages, more content, just /more/ everything having to do with my comic project. this is my baby and I want to make it a viable income source. Right now it's a bit more of an advanced hobby but one that I am dedicated to. And hey everyone wouldn't mind seeing more content.
So yay PAtreon decided to get back in touch with reality but I'm still going to doggedly persue growing my project to greater heights and dragging everyone who cares about it along for the ride.
If you're wanting to support me through Patreon or Kofi here's some links for you. Everything is so appreciated right now:

Eight Boxes of Chirrs, mailing out tomorrow.
Posted 8 years agoWant to make it more?
There's just a few days untill the coupon expires. I want to say those of you who ordered one (or several) have been a HUGE help this week in keeping my head above water during the lost income due to Irma. I have one Discontinued Magenta chirr left in stock. but I still have several other discontinued colors still availabe. light yellow, baby pink, sand and Beige. As these colors sell out they'll be replaced with nicer prettier inventory. Each year I try to have 300 chirrs for my convention Inventory, with 5 of each color I have in stock.
By getting rid of Retired colors, not only do i have more fabric to do test patterning with, I can also get new fabric to replace the older, uglier colors with. One particular color I'm replacing the Sage green with, is a pinkish color called Papaya. There's also the two other galaxy colors which will move in on the void left Cactus and Magenta.
As I assess what other colors are "absent" from my chirr attempts, new colors will replace the old. Minky has roughly 90+ colors in it's selection. Of those I'm using roughly 60 of them. Not all of the colors are "chirr worthy" so sifting through which ones make nice chirr colors and which are better left for other projects, is part of the fun.
IRMACHIRR2017 is the $5 off coupon if anyone would like to get a chirr at a discount before the coupon expires this weekend.

More Discontinued Chirr colors Discounted on Etsy + coupon
Posted 8 years agoI've added several colors to the "discontinued" colors of Chirrs on Etsy. these are mostly colors I made chirrs out of that i didn't particularly care for and didn't sell very well. What remains of the fabric I have in stock will be used for test patterning for future plush projects.
In addition thanks to Irma I might be taking a day or two off next week starting Sunday. Business has been a little slow in General so to help counter that I'm making a coupon available only until the end of next week to get a further discount on chirrs you like. IF YOU BUY MORE THAN ONE CHIRR AND IT WILL FIT IN A FLAT RATE BOX I WILL REFUND YOU THE ADDiTIONAL SHIPPING ETSY WILL CHARGE YOU WITH. i can comfortably squeeze about 5 chirrs into a single flat-rate box so if you do order more than one and 5 or under I will happily refund the excess shipping costs.
The only chirrs the coupon won't work on is the Jewel Tone chirrs. All the rest you can get $5 off on.

CHIRRS BACK ON THE ETSY STORE
Posted 8 years agoI wanted to get these guys back up ASAP. Esp with my etsy is on my business card now. If you missed out on going to Megaplex go nab one of your favorites. We still have some misfits, jewel tones, and thermals available.

Megaplex over, recovery and things to look forward to.
Posted 8 years agoOnce again the chirrs were a rousing success.
The rest of them will be put up on Etsy in the coming weeks so stay tuned for your chance to nab one again. I'll be keeping the store open a bit longer this time, with some designs available for the entire year for as long as they remain in the store including the Discontinued light yellow, baby pink, fucia and sage green chirrs which will be $25 instead of the usual $30.
Moving forward with the plush-making scene I'm going to do what I should have done last year and started on the new projects first before filling in the blanks on the chirrs. In the next coming months I'll be working on Dolphoria plush and potentially a puppet version of them Which may have their prototypes and first batches sold on Etsy to Gauge interest. I'll also be working on finalizing the Sirenidae designs and working on making some of those as well.
Megaplex, as always, was an absolute BLAST and I always get such satisfaction from selling my wares. And next year I plan on getting a booth, while hopefully continuing to stay near Gen. I've done my best to stay in a one-table space for as long as I've attended Megaplex but with the new booth option, being able to slightly sprawl my display will help me greatly.
I'm also trying to be more active on twitter so show it some love and watch me [at]foxena where I'll be detailing new products and progress.
I need so much decompression time after this con though but I'll get back into the swing of things soon. Overlord STream will be this saturday and Commission streams will continue monday at the latest.

You sure can! be sure to get there early though because I probably won't be taking any commissions or just sketch/only commissions from mid-saturday onward.
Can we talk about your comics?
Yes! I love talking about my work and the world I've created. I'll be sitting right next to my co-creator,
genesisw who will also love chatting about it if she's not busy.
What can't we talk about?
I really don't need to know what fetishes float your boat. If you want to commission me, there's obvs things that I won't draw. While I love Gen and totally agree she's awesome, I'm also not going to be her secretary if you can't get ahold of her for whatever reason. I will not give out her number to you, nor my number. I also am the last person qualified to relay anything important to her. If there's a staff issue, take it up with constaff. I am not staff.
Can we talk about other things?
Sure can! Just respect that if a certain subject is uncomfortable for me, I may ask you to change the subject.
Can I get you something to eat?
You may but I ask that it be in a sealed container like a bag of chips (plain lays) or dried fruit. I'm gonna be mega-stressed when I'm behind my table because I'll be helping Gen in my own little way and probably dealing with lots of customers. So those of you who are going to be attending I implore you. DO. NOT. DROP CANDY OR POPROCKS OR THINGS YOU KNOW I DO NOT LIKE down on my table. I will not be in a joking mood and it won't endear me to you in the slightest. If you want to tease me with these things please wait until after the dealer hours are over.
Can I get you something to drink?
In order of what I prefer: Bottled water, cherry coke, or Regular coke, all in sealed bottles/cans. Mostly for hydration/caffeine needs.
What can I give you?
If you want to give me anything, I rather like fidget toys. They don't have to be expensive, but I really like fiddling with things in my hands and it helps me de-stress. I also just like collecting things like this because they're small and don't take up a bunch of space.
What shouldn't I give you?
Poprocks, candy, or "joke" items. If you give me a gift that is intended to irritate or frighten me, I will not speak to you again for the rest of the con or potentially ever. Those of you attending should know what does/doesn't scare me/irritate me.
Why can't I give you candy? I thought you liked chocolate/etc.
I do, trust me. It pains me to say it, but I'm getting older and subsisting on a diet of candy and cola throughout the con is really really bad for me. I can't eat pocky anymore for example. if you're going to give me something, I'd prefer it to be something that's going to help me and not give me a sugar crash in the middle of my very busy workday. (also when I'm stressed I tend to crave salt, not sweet)
Can I take your picture?
Please ask me first.
Attending any events?
Probably not.
Days staying:
Thursday-Monday

Who will you be with?

Where will you be?

Can I hug and/or snuggle you?

Are you nice?
I try to be.
Are you fursuiting?
Nope
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
"Hey Fox!" works but no need to shout I'll be easily accessible at my table c:

Swaggerdile shutting down
Posted 8 years agoFor those of you who are a patron of my Swaggerdile, firstly I implore you to go here and read this from Tanabi. https://www.swaggerdile.com/shutdown
I really REALLY wanted this to work out but alas it was not meant to be. I apologise to everyone whom I had move over to swaggerdile, and would like to humbly request that you move back to my Patreon which can be found here: https://www.patreon.com/islaaukate
I have made changes to the Patreon to make it worth the move, and as a huge thank-you to everyone who is currently a part of Patreon, and who sign back up I'm offering a few special perks this month only.
Patrons of $5 or more, just this month, will get a 1-character free sketch in-stream.
Patrons of $10 or more, just this month will get two free one- character sketches in-stream.
Also EVERYONE who is a patron this month will get full access to everything in the Patron drop box until July 1st, what was usually divvied out by tier will be accessible to anyone who is a patron or signs up this month.
Another notable change is that Early Access has been split in two. Basic EA, which is basically seeing the comic nearly two months in advance (and updates with new pages roughly every two weeks) is now a $5 teir. If you want to continue being able to see the otherwise print-exclusive comics, such as the bonus arcs of the comic, that is still at the $10 tier and above.
I'm working on prettying up the patreon as well with fancy graphics and a few other nice asthetic things. but just a reminder, again if you read all of this, Swaggerdile will no longer be a viable patreon alternative, so if you want to continue getting your benifits, or new ones, please sign up for my Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/islaaukate

Art Stream Code of conduct.
Posted 8 years agoI figured it was high-time I reuploaded/updated this journal. Most of the original problems aren't so much anymore and I figured it would also help to include commission guidelines to help when commissioning me on the stream. So with that in mind:
I livestream art EVERY DAY except Fridays (usually if I’m not having a vacation or a family emergency) from 8pm EST(EDT) to 11pm - or midnight.
Commission guidelines:
I don’t draw fetish/adult work, please don’t ask for it.
Please send me a note with your commission idea, if possible, well before your slot comes up. Do not wait until it’s almost your turn to send it to me.
Please keep your idea concise and brief. Because I’m only operating with half a brain squirrel during streams, I don’t have the wherewithal to read huge blocks of text and details will be missed if I do.
Keep your visual references relevant as possible to the idea you have in mind.
Artistic freedom will give you much more bang for your buck. Just throw a character reference at me and watch the magic happen. The more freedom I have, the more awesome I’ll try to make it.
Please be present for the entirety of your commission. If you need to go AFK, tell me in advance and I will work on the next person in line until you return; much of my work relies on immediate feedback, esp in the sketch phase.
If you didn’t pay for it, or if the commission is not for you in any way, you do not have the right to critique it, and repeated instances of this will see you banned. Some customers like things in a certain way which may not be to your aesthetic; that doesn’t mean it’s wrong, but it is up to the customer/recipient of the commission to determine that. And if that person isn’t you, then please keep your thoughts to yourself.
General Code of Conduct:
We’re all Adults in channel, but that isn’t license to be crude or vulgar. Please remember that there are times parents with their children also attend the stream and I want to keep the rating for the stream and its interactions somewhere between PG and PG-13
This is an Art stream, not a roleplay chat, and my channel is not to be treated as your personal chatroom. If you have a conversation that could happen privately elsewhere, please take it elsewhere. I’m running a stream about me and my artwork, if I feel you don’t care about either, I will ask you to seek your social interactions elsewhere.
Do not spam the chat. There are times when clients give me instructions on how to proceed with a picture, please be courteous and not drown out important information with a billion disjointed messages about how you really like rabbits.
HORMEL'S LAW IS NOT TO SHIELD YOU FROM A PERSONAL TRAUMA. My channel is blessed in that we can talk about religion and politics and current events and keep things relatively civil. You do not demand a topic end because you personally dislike it. I really hate derailing what might be an interesting discussion because one person has a trauma. We call "bacon" on a topic when tempers look like they're starting to rise and when people are starting to take things personally. NOT BECAUSE YOU ARE OFFENDED BY TALK OF POLITICS OR RELIGION OR PET KITTENS. (Note as of the 2016 election talk of anything politically geared is off the table until further notice.)
I am not your therapist/tech support, and neither is my channel. If you have legitimate physical or emotional problems get help from a professional. Please do not come to my stream and demand everyone stop and play psychoanalyst/geniusbar/geeksquad. If the only reason you are in my stream is to get help for a personal issue, you’re here for the wrong reason. If you need help with something go see a therapist or go to Reddit for information, not a 30-something cartoonist. Both will offer far better solutions to your problem than I can (unless it’s a problem specifically with the art-program I am using, [clip studio paint] then I might actually be able to help).
Do not share links without permission. We’ve had people link to screamers and gore, so if you do request to share a link, you will be asked what it contains. If permission to link is not expressly given, don’t share it.
The final say on behavior goes to me. I put up with a fair deal but if I have to continually reign someone in by telling them to stop a certain behavior, eventually I’m just going to kick them out. I don’t post specific rules and guidelines because all that does is give people loopholes to consider. In all honesty, if you’re acting like a jerk and I feel you should know better, I shouldn’t have to take you to the chalkboard like a child and tell you what rule you broke. In short, if you can’t act like a civil human being, don’t come to my stream.

Patreon/swaggerdile Files updated.
Posted 8 years agoJust updated the Early access Folders on Swaggerdile and Patreon to include 26 fresh pages. This brings the current total of un-published pages for the comic up to 61. I am gleefully 2 months ahead with comic pages.
If you want to go and read these pages, you can sign up for my Swaggerdile (or patreon) to view the files ahead of the general public.
Swaggerdile is a bit more personal, I share more progress and other things there like Dolphoria puppet parts, etc, while Patreon is more for general comic support.
Swaggerdile: https://www.swaggerdile.com/foxena < currently only one $10 pledge away from exclusive backer-only streams for swaggerdile. I was thinking of doing more than just art-streams for this, and changing it up a bit.

Dolphoria puppet materials
Posted 8 years agoSo I finally got around to getting most of the parts ready for the Dolphoria puppets and there's been a bit of an issue that's come up when deciding what to use for fur.
Faux fur is expensive. Let me make that clear first. NICE SOFT fake fur (im looking into Tissavel or similar) runs about $25+ a yard. Buying multiple colors of it minimum would run up the costs of these puppets considerably. In order to keep costs down for this preliminary run, dying the fabric per-cut pattern, is more cost effective.
Problem: Dying Fake fur can be hit or miss. Most dyes are made for natural fibers, not artificial. And there's no guaranteeing the softness of the fur once it is dyed. Which for something that is going to be worn near someone's neck for extended periods of time, it might start getting irritating. (I'm still going to try, and hope it works, but if it doesn't there is an alternative. It's just... that alternative might be upsetting to some people.
The alternative to dyed faux fur is Dying real fur. Namely rabbit fur. I personally have zero issues doing this however I respect that many of my customers would take issue knowing a product I've made includes real fur.
So I have a poll here and I figured I'd ask. If you were in the market to buy a Dolphoria shoulder puppet. (this is a Dolphoria: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/13749507/ ) tell me via the poll what sort of fur you'd like or wouldn't mind, having on your puppet.
http://www.strawpoll.me/12182488
Please be civil in the comments. Just because I have no personal qualms with using real fur I do understand why some people would disagree with that. Which is why I am asking the masses. I may be surprised by the answer, I may not. But it really depends.

Armature Nine, Injection molding Kickstarter
Posted 9 years agohttps://www.kickstarter.com/project.....natomical-toys
I know it's been awhile since I've pimped A9. Most of that was sadly because the price for the Armature was starting to become very prohibitive even with my budget, and I couldn't imagine anyone else being able to afford one either.
HOWEVER that's going to change! We just need to help him out. Right now A9 has a kickstarter where you can get a bunch of armature pieces at a discount. (For $70 you can get a small bucket of peices that will make three whole armatures) That's roughly $24 per armature, when a single 3d printed Armature from the guy can go for almost $200.
Getting EASILY POSABLE and even DIGIGRADE AND BEAST ARMATURES for about $24 bucks each is an absolute steal and a must have for any budding artist.
I have always wanted A9 to Succeed and help the artist community better themselves. It broke my heart when the cost for a 3d printed one became too expensive for me to afford, but now that it's getting kickstarted for injection molding, the cost per-armature is going down drastically to the point that for $30 you can get a single Armature. for $70 you can get three, and for $170 you can get TEN. ever wanted to be able to do crowd scenes? Now you can! And the cool thing is, if he can make stretch goals he might even cast them in different colors. Awesome right?
I know it's right after the holidays but the kickstarter is going for the next month and this really is a small price to pay for getting awesome armatures for art (or for your artist friends that you love c:)

Mouse
Posted 9 years agoFor those of you who've frequented my streams this week you'll have heard the pathetic mewlings of Mouse, the stray kitten that I took into my home.
The first day I had her it was tenuous at best as she had a both passive but rather feral personality. Thankfully as she calmed her fluffy butt down her real personality emerged, that of a lonely but affectionate kitten who liked to be held. And it was in this way she wormed herself into my heart.
Today I went to surrender her to a no-kill shelter only to be turned away from Pet alliance as she was a feral cat and not a pet and sent to the receiving unit across the street from them. Where I was faced with the very painful reality that if she wasn't a pet to be surrendered, she had a very good chance of getting euthanized if she wasn't adopted in their two week window.
I was faced with a dilemma, I had no-where to keep Mouse long term, my cats barely get along as is and bringing a new variable into that mix might put everything I've worked for with them in the last 2 years into chaos. Not to mention the strict 2 pet limit my condo has on animals. There were so many things working against me here. I could surrender her and my problems would be finished but I honestly could not live with myself knowing she could die.
Tearfully I called my father who at that moment was in-route to visit me and explained the situation, that they weren't a no-kill shelter and I didn't have many options. He conceded to taking Mouse and to keep her until he could find a home for her.
So what was going to be the end of my journey with Mouse ended up not. And here's hoping my father finds her a nice loving family to take her in c: If you live in the Panama City Beach area and are in the market for a very sweet kitten, Please note me and I can get you my Dad's information.
heres some pics of her on my instagram: https://www.instagram.com/foxenawolf/

My Swaggerdile is now LIVE
Posted 9 years agoIt's been soft-released for awhile but I wanted to announce it in an official capacity. The Milestones are really the only thing that need tweaking imo but otherwise enjoy!
https://www.swaggerdile.com/foxena
There are some questions people have been asking so I wanted to address these as well:
1. Will you be shutting down your Patreon?
I WILL NOT be shutting down Patreon. The reason being I don't wish to force anyone to use a platform they are unfamiliar with, and, frankly. There's people who don't attend the streams/dont have a tigerdile account, that still want to contribute. Lots of people have a patreon account, so I intend to keep it active for the casual supporter of the comic.
2. What, if any, will be different between Patreon pledgers and Swaggerdile pledgers?
At most lower tiers like Early access etc. they'll mostly be the same. The Biggest change is that because of Patreon's newest policy of no copyrighted material being used for incentives/rewards, I can no longer allow people who pledge through Patreon to view the animatics I draw for the comic, mostly because they feature copyrighted music. (It's a bit of a stretch, I know but I don't want to take any chances.)
The animatics are now a Swaggerdile exclusive. Another thing that is swaggerdile exclusive (but at higher tiers) is the access to Art tutorials about how I do various things and people are open at these tiers to request a tutorial.
3. Will patron-only streams and Swaggerdile-only streams be separate?
No. If you are a contributor on either site you'll gain access to the exclusive streams regardless of which one you choose.

Stupid poll about Chirrs :p
Posted 9 years agoBecause I like polling the audience for these little guys. Even though I have a fairly good idea of the answer I still want to see what you guys would like. So here's the context for the poll.
In a OMG TRAGIC turn of events I have lost the master sculpture of my chirr head. Now I can easily find a unused cast head, file down any imperfections and re-cast it. Which incidentally I have already done. HOWEVER. This has led me to an idea that I figured I might as well ask others for and Frankly I have wanted to add variety for awhile so the poll you are about to partake in is, should i just continue with the usual head, or start making different varieties of face?
