Posted 12 years agoI'm sorry if my "sudden" stance not to be walked on and treated like an art robot offends you. I'm sorry that I'm not going to let you treat me like crap when you dangle money in front of my face.
Lets put that into perspective. A dog might let you take a baseball bat to them and beat the crap out of them and then be super happy you gave them a treat afterward. They MIGHT. but odds are if that Dog has had no history of abuse, its going to bite you for hurting it.
Do not think for ONE MINUTE That being a paying customer gives you a right to treat me like a slave, like someone subhuman, someone that suddenly OWES you more than just the artwork on the table.
For those of you who are super puzzled by this let me run down a list of things people think is "included" with buying art from me:

8 hour drives and public apologies
Posted 12 years agoso im FINALLY back from Florida and i got absolutely NOTHING done this week outside of commissions and personal art and I am not proud of this. I know theres a small handful of people expecting stuff from me thats in various stages of being slightly to a bit more outlandishly overdue. I haven;t forgotten you. This week is going to be me playing catchup, doing recordings for some rehearsing things for megaplex, character designs for a potential client (you know who you are) and as always continuing the story of Isla Aukake, AKA the Overlord Comic.
8 hours is a long time to be in a car in a position where sleeping is impossible, in that span of time i have come up with 5 potential story arcs for the overlord comic.
Let me put that into perspective for you.
The story arc we're in ISN'T OVER YET and its the FIRST ONE. I have planned out FIVE MORE.... (allthough to the fair this one is drawing to a close fairly soonish, id give it maybe 4 more chapters give or take.
For a silly little sketch comic that started out as a handfull of sketchtacular brainstorming sketches of giving a humanized starscream a daughter and running helter skelter with the idea, this has become one of the most promising epics of my artistic career. I have been blessed by all its wonderful feedback and how much everyone has fallen in love with the characters.
I couldn't do this without your continued support. So please continue to support its endevours with your comments and favs and attention, it really helps to encourage me to post as many pages as possible a week and I love writing the story.

Alas my brain has not been replaced by a dual core processor.
I do not make the macintosh boot up sound when i wake up. (allthough lets be honest that would be cool)
i still bleed blood and not coolant or binary code.
Still pretty sure the kind of viruses i catch can't be fixed with "patches"
Don't have a battery where my heart is.
If my eyes have become screens no-one told me.
So for the love of God, Treat me like a human being and not a slave of artwork. Especially if your asking for it for Free. It is my JOB i am not a puppet set up for your enjoyment.

If i give out freebies they tend to be earned by people who earn them by being cool or awesome to me or other people. (oddly more often to other people)
I can't afford to give away free stuff, least wise to people who don't even treat me as if i were human.
The more you ask me for a favor, less likely you are to receive it.

opening up the floor to five slots but i WILL OPEN MORE IF INTEREST IS SUCH.
In an unprecidented attempt at not falling asleep past 4 am i will be starting the stream 2 hours earlier at 5pm EST instead of 7pm EST. So may the fourth be with you, and come and attend the livestream get starwars art on-demand and have some fun starwarsy banter.
AS WITH ALL THEME NIGHTS, spend $50 or more and get a free sketch to be redeemed the following night onward. never expires. i shall even go so far as to say every $50 spent earns a free sketch so if your commssion goes over $100 bam, you get two free sketchies. goes over $150, 3 free sketchies. awesome.

In need of some Collective Advice.
Posted 12 years agoThere have been instances, not recently but in the past where I've wanted to refuse a commission. Either the client is listed on A_B (artists beware) or my dealings with them in the past have been such I've decided they aren't worth the headache. It hasn't been OFTEN and most of the people who have been like that I've basically told "hey i dont do this type of artwork anymore sorry."
But for those that want art from me that i CAN do but don't want to do for THEM, (for example ponies, just as an example) I have NO IDEA how to let people down delicately. I'm not a mean person, and there are times when I simply can't afford to turn a client down. But when a client/artist relationship turns Toxic and abusive I really don't want to continue working for someone who treats me like an art-robot, and further more lashes out against my other clients.
so... advice on selective refusal?

If for some reason i get done with it EARLY i will be working on personal projects afterward and possibly lurking in other livestreams. If i don't collapse from exhaustion before then.

I do not care if you want to chat with me in the livestream, heck I encourage it. HOWEVER a certain level of decorum must be taken into account.
FIRST AND FORMOST:
if you have a link you want to share and your request goes UNANSWERED. odds are my answer is "no." i have a million things running around in the stream between having to make sure customers are paying, getting thier artwork from the drop box, getting references up for the next one, finding the file if its an upgrade, and all around trying to focus on what is helping me make a living.
I do not have TIME to give you individualistic attention when you start demanding it.
If i do not respond to a request to share a link DO NOT HOUND ME about it. DO NOT THROW A TANTRUM THAT I AM IGNORING YOU. As i stated above I cannot cater to people individually in the streams ESPECIALLY when it is demanded of me, and demanded of me before i "get" to respond to you. It will only put me off to responding to you at all. I deal with attention mongers with the opposite approach, I ignore them. THE BEST way to get me to ignore you is to repeatedly demand my attention in-channel. Slow down, sit back, realize that I'm busy, trying to run a business and respect that you aren't the only one in the stream.
You're not a special snowflake that's exempt from the rules or social graces just because you want to be all chummy with me. You're not exempt from behaving like an adult JUST BECAUSE you decided to GRACE me with your presence. MY Livestream, My rules, my business.
This also bridges into any other aspect of my livestream/artgifts/rp forums etc.
Asking for something only decreases the likelihood of me doing it. I'm actually AFRAID to do gift art for people BECAUSE of this. I DO give discounts, I do gift free artwork on a very rare basis and if you get any of this from me CHERISH it but don't rub it in everyone's face that you got it from me. Be humble. If you get free stuff from me for any reason, it's because I respect you, care for you, and feel like you've deserved it. Don't make me regret that.
I'm trying to foster a similar environment in my channel as Gen's stream. (the Little Tales community) I don't have as many mods to keep people in check, i'm trying to keep everyone in line mostly by myself most of the time. It gets overwhelming and its hard to find people to mod that I trust won't go "drunk with power" and start swinging the hammer at every small offense. It's also hard to find people who won't brag about having that power even if they never use it. It tends to scare newbies away really quick.
So please do me a huge favor and don't be an attention whore. if you want attention so bad, start your own livestream, earn your own viewership and be the star of your own show, while you're in my livestream, you're there to hang out, have fun, and have fun converstation with me and other streamers. Not to turn it into your own personal Me show.

You're not a special snowflake that's exempt from the rules or social graces just because you want to be all chummy with me. You're not exempt from behaving like an adult JUST BECAUSE you decided to GRACE me with your presence. MY Livestream, My rules, my business.
This also bridges into any other aspect of my livestream/artgifts/rp forums etc.
Asking for something only decreases the likelihood of me doing it. I'm actually AFRAID to do gift art for people BECAUSE of this. I DO give discounts, I do gift free artwork on a very rare basis and if you get any of this from me CHERISH it but don't rub it in everyone's face that you got it from me. Be humble. If you get free stuff from me for any reason, it's because I respect you, care for you, and feel like you've deserved it. Don't make me regret that.
I'm trying to foster a similar environment in my channel as Gen's stream. (the Little Tales community) I don't have as many mods to keep people in check, i'm trying to keep everyone in line mostly by myself most of the time. It gets overwhelming and its hard to find people to mod that I trust won't go "drunk with power" and start swinging the hammer at every small offense. It's also hard to find people who won't brag about having that power even if they never use it. It tends to scare newbies away really quick.
So please do me a huge favor and don't be an attention whore. if you want attention so bad, start your own livestream, earn your own viewership and be the star of your own show, while you're in my livestream, you're there to hang out, have fun, and have fun converstation with me and other streamers. Not to turn it into your own personal Me show.
I'm not singling out any one person with this so PLEASE if you think im talking about you, odds are i'm not. Its just something ive noticed lately especially with new people coming into the stream every day and having the rules not be something they inherently know.
TL;DR, If you demand attention from me, its the easiest way for me to ignore you. I don't play those games.

NO STREAM TONIGHT (saturday)
Posted 12 years agoIm dead tired when i finally culminate enough energy to draw it will be toward more overlord Comics, which i MAY stream much later tonight, but don't bet on it. I'll post a notice if and when. But for now... im tired, and im working on the mental outline of the next chapter of the story so its coehsive. I litterally am writing this as I go, i have a general idea of where i want to take it but theres allot of droping plot twists on a whim.
Next couple "chapters" will be fun as i actually have a more recursive storyline I want to show that ties in alot of the former things too which i love doing.
Also alot more of me being pure evil in the near future so stay tuned.

I hate Taxes...
Posted 12 years agoFinal figures for moving, taxes, and marginally more expensive rent... im looking at practically destroying the savings i managed to scrape together this year. this.. whole....year.... savings which i SCRAPED together so i wouldnt have to worry about it 95% of it is going toward TAXES.
hate to do this to myself and everyone else but nightly goal is going up to $200 minimum, i will be starting earlier than usual for the next several months in HOPES i can somehow recover the losses.
My accountant is a moron, the governement wants to kill small business, and having no income tax to take out of my income as i make it only to pay it at the end of the year is whats killing me now,
Im switching accountants to someone who is actually cares, and switching to quarterlies.
This year is going to be full of events, and other things. and LOTS OF ADVERTISING.

I thank you ALL for being so supportive and I will continue minion commissions on sunday to make up for the fact I went all flaketacular on you.

Also THANK YOU for all of your kind words and you all really jumping on board with this minion thing. The FBA is a fun and outstanding community as is the Little Tales community but its been awhile since i had a community that was "Mine" and while im not posessive of my users, i'm very happy to see for once a project that is 100% mine, garner such a following and it really is fullfilling. I couldn't have done it without all your support determination, kindness and drive so from the bottom of my heart thank you.
