Sitting it out this year. No dealer's table, since they sold out 3 minutes after opening table registration at some unknown time. Can't afford it this time around anyway, let alone the basic essentials... which brings me to:

Collaborative Commission Openings
We're both diligently working on the other stuff we each owe, so don't worry! We just thought it would be fun to offer a limited number of collab pictures to help us catch up on our financial situation XD

 Scullyraptor and myself are opening spots for THREE (3) commissions, full color and ink, up to 2 characters each. I do the initial sketch, Scully will be doing cleanup and ink, and then I will be adding delicious digital color, courtesy of Photoshop.

The two characters and what they are doing together is entirely up to you, as long as it's within reason. It can be clean, tame, sexy or downright nasty, don't be afraid to ask!

We DO reserve the right to veto any themes that we find uncomfortable or objectionable, so if you think your idea might be of concern, please contact us as soon as possible to inquire. Things like extremely detailed characters, or multiple bodyparts, which will extend the time it takes to complete the custom image, WILL cost extra, at our discretion.

The background of the picture will be very simple and based on what we feel will work best for the image (solid color, gradient, graphic element, vague setting like bedsheets or something). IF you want to request a specific or detailed background, Please be prepared to include a fee of $50 in ADDITION to the price.

If you would like the 11x14" inks and a print or two mailed to you, that can be arranged, or we can email you a full-resolution JPG of the finished image. We may be able to offer larger prints of the final image as well.

The 3 openings are $120.00 each.

After talking to  donryu, I've decided... For the month of August, I'm opening up a special kind of commission. There's 100 avaliable spots for single-character sketches. $15 gets you a single-char 11x17 sketch, rough and loose, in the vein of conceptual sketches, done in pencil and ink. This will serve as an exercise to see how fast I can knock them out efficiently, and it's a quick way to get a piece of work by me, if you're one of those people who's somehow been unable to get any from me in the past.

7/17 Noon Stream. You know what to do!

I've started the designwork on a new site. A gallery that can be accessed by pretty much anyone, in or out of this fandom; a more general, more professional site to show my skinworks. It's always a little strange to tell prospective clients "yeah, I've got photos of my tattoos online... they're among the other stuff I drew in there." It's also a main gallery to try and garner some clientel, whether it's locally based, or from people willing to make the trek to get ink.

But I'm wanting to know something.

If i point out to you, o reader, that my Paypal address is Fossil-at-JurassicBeauties-dot-com, would I get any minor donations, to not only help fund the site's construction and launch, but to get things I'm running low on, like tattoo inks, a LOT more disposable tubes, boxes of needles, and other such supplies? After AC, I was pretty depleted on quite a few colors, and at 15.00 a bottle.. well, you get the idea. If you were one of the ones who got inked by me Sunday, you know what I'm talking about. Had to switch to my metal tubes. But I digress.

Hey, FA,

I just got no less than 10 apologies in my FA inbox, all from people who all feel very badly. To those people, and anyone else, I wish I could hug you all right now. Don't feel bad. You haven't contributed to anything negatively. To follow-up and clarify a few things regarding my last journal, which regarded  kutztowndragon's con report/documentary:

I am going to continue my tattooing career. Quite simply, it's fun, it's fruitful, and it's something I can tell my mother about without shame or worry.

HOWEVER

I am not against adult artwork. I am not going to stop drawing porn. I AM going to stop drawing as much porn as I have been. This is nothing new; this is no secret. Every Ustream I'm in, I wind up discussing the same topic, how I'm making the move towards BALANCE between my output of clean stuff versus dirty stuff. What this means is I am going to aim for an equalized ratio, because I want to know if the viewers want to see more than T&A. The tame stuff is my curveball, and I've already thrown quite a few. But as time goes on, I'll have it nice and mixed up, hopefully 50-50. Tame, Dirty, Tame, Dirty.

When I seem tired of porn, I'm not tired of PORN, I'm tired of porn being ALL people want. Think about that for a minute, and reflect on it. Plant that seed in your mind.

I LIKE drawing curvy stuff, ranging from cheesecake to explicit. I like toony characters that otherwise wouldn't exist. I like exercising my creative/storytelling muscle, even though I am a shitty storyteller. I might not be a person who believes my characters are real, or take it to any extreme like that, but I DO like drawing them as characters with an element of humor, sensuality and believability. I am not going to stop drawing what I like.

I DON'T LIKE when there's such an imbalance in the fandom that porn is the primary focus, the primary hunger, and while I know I can't do much to change that, I will at least put forth an effort to balance my own stuff.

When founding artists and illustrators get all-but-chased out of the fandom by dopplegangers...

When newcomers to the fandom try to become "celebrities" by drawing smut, without even researching the rules of anatomy, all so they can get their e-asses kissed...

When once-clean artists begin drawing exponentially increased levels of porn... then it's time for porn artists to start drawing clean. I like symmetry.

The Jurassic Beauties characters are not an obligation. They're all facets, fragments, parts of me, and they're not at all a labor to draw. The problems come when
A: people ONLY expect them to be vapid virtual fap fodder (I don't blame people for thinking that, as I can't really do much to convince them otherwise, save for create some kind of new narrative...), or
B: look at me funny if I tell them that I intend to make them more than that. By saying this, I am viewed as potentially obsessive.

It's something I never imagined would happen. What I draw started as a joke. It really did. It was a humorous doodle, something I'd never seen done before. A triceratops with tits.

It's not over. I'm still here. Just understand HOW I'm here. Understand what HERE is... and who I am.

Anthrocon was good. Yes, I was there. I was not at a dealer's/A.A. table, as I mentioned 4 journals ago, but rather, spending my duration there in my makeshift tattoo parlor, room 711, perhaps the easiest hotel room number to remember.

I saw a lot of people, but this con, I didn't see as many as I'd hoped to see. Since I wasn't in the thick of it, I had to seek people out to say hi or bye, and that was ok, just different.

To Jeff, Jake, Jay, Liz and Bob, Ken Singshow, Matt and Aja, Likeshine and PaintedDog the two-headed girl, Yiffer, Ice, TikiMan Ben, Duo, Max, Gnaw, Shawntae, DC, Eric and Chen, and everyone I did see/get to spend any time with at all, it was good to see you.

To Brian, it was great sitting with you and talking. Buy the ticket, take the ride.

To the Long Islanders, Mitsu & Phil, Zaley & John, and Era, good to see you, even though we see each other pretty regularly.

I was tattooing pretty much non-stop, from opening to closing, with time taken to sleep, eat and bathe. Seriously. Every time I took a break to just sit and reflect in a quiet room, there'd come a knock at the door. When I finally finished inking the last client, it was 5:30 am on Monday morning, and I was in a different hotel. Walking back to the Westin was eerie, since the Pittsburgh streets were desolate, and there was a calm serenity to it all.

The collage of collected tattoo work done at the con is coming. Got to compile them all first. Stay tuned!

The cell rang as we were walking from the car dealership, from getting the passenger door latch fixed. We heard the news that was given to us, minutes after it broke, blinked, got in the car, then turned on the radio station. Then another. Then another.

I cried.

Then as "Thriller" came on, I rolled down the windows and turned the volume way, WAY up as we continued the drive to the tattoo shop.

I am in a dreamlike shock as I type this, thinking about what it feels like to be a part of this, to bear witness to it. Death is inevitable and expected for us all, but you just never think about it until now. To know that an infant born right this second will never know what it is to have existed at the same time as this insanely talented person who affected, impacted and formed so much of music. Future generations won't ever understand, I'm afraid. This is just old people's music now, even if they hear it and love it, they will not have lived it, and definitely won't comprehend the impact and influence.

I had the dolls, and I SAW "Captain EO" in Disneyworld.

I SAW the live Bucharest concert on TV and it was like I was fucking There. It was just that electrifying.

I SAW the first broadcast of "We Are The World" as well as "Remember the Time" and "Black and White". And speaking of those two videos; tell me, who in this lifetime has their music videos inaugurally broadcast as big events (with commercials advertising it weeks in advance) on late night television?




This is History. We are all witnesses of it. This will never happen again.

Tattoo Shop Relocation

In tattoo-related news, the tattoo shop I mentioned starting at a few journals back was giving me the runaround about getting on their insurance policy or letting me tattoo as much as I could. Long story short, I (and several of the other workers there) recently up-and-moved to a new tattoo shop, where we all have much nicer facilities, more light, space, and more, I'm already on the insurance policy, and my credentials are on the wall! I feel a LOT more comfortable there, and while I'm STILL the only guy in an all-girl shop, this shop doesn't seem to have any issue with that, or an issue with "but we were so proud of our all-girl status" like the last shop's owner. Rarr. Anyway:
