The Scoop on 2012.
Posted 14 years agoWell, the Hush-Hush is out!
Rocket City FurMeet, Huntsville, Alabama, 2012.

I'll be there as a full-blown Guest of Honor!
I haven't been down there to RCFM since like 2005, I think... and now I'm gonna be there for the first time (anywhere) as a GoH! I got notified by alexanderkatz about it a few days before this years con, which ended yesterday, and as such I didn't want to say anything about it just yet, 'til it was concluded. But now, there it is!
 alexanderkatz about it a few days before this years con, which ended yesterday, and as such I didn't want to say anything about it just yet, 'til it was concluded. But now, there it is!
You've essentially got 365 days to save up to make it down there and party with me! And I have less time than that to think up what I'm gonna do! So nervous, so excited.
First things first, finishing these last commissions!
SO EXCITE.

2012 News.
Posted 14 years agoSO I'm back from FAU, as I have been for about a week or so now. It went well. Big thanks to everyone who got ink.
Sorry, gonna have to sit AC out, can't afford to go. But there WILL be other times.
I have some big news about 2012, but I can't tell about it until this weekend's over.
Hint: it's nothing to do with the endtimes.

FA-U is a Maybe...?
Posted 14 years agoHey there--
So I might not be going to FA-U because there hasn't been much of a response towards reserving spots for getting tattoo work done, and to be realistic, it'd be hard for me to cover the trip and expenditures if there's no guarantees, you know? I've done that before at cons, and I honestly don't wanna deal with that this time around. So-- consider this journal a final call for FA-U.
As mentioned in my prior journal, anyone interested in arranging an appointment and payment towards tattooing at FA-U (which subsequently assists me in getting there and back), do contact me.
Back to commission work for now!

FurAffinity United is coming ever closer, so I needed to make a journal about it. I WILL BE THERE!
I'll be doing the table thing for part of it, sketchbooks and prints and the like, and will be tattooing in a sterile, controlled and designated spot offsite. Contact me via email (Fossil@FossilTattoo.com) if you are interested in ink. Taking partial payments now for inking appointments, so don't wait.
To those going, I'll see you at the con.

EDIT:
As of 12:19, the launch was scrubbed, two of the auxiliary power unit heaters failed. So the launch's not happening for 48 hours. Back to work for me.

Between commission working, and working at my places of employment, I've been finetuning this:

FURFRIGHT AFTER ALL.
Posted 15 years agoFURFRIGHT IS GO.
Please read carefully-
As much as I hate last-minute changes of plans, looks like I'm going to FurFright. I hadn't planned on being able to make it, but now, it seems I will be there!
I will be trying to attain Artist Alley Space for tattooing, as I've heard that there's electricity there. If you want to get inked or commission me, then look for me. I'll be around.
I'll also be doing sketchbook commissions too.
I will be leaving immediately for the con, and will have limited internet while there, and I have no phone, so don't try to note me or email me-- instead, if you're in attendance, simply try to find me. I'll be riding up with/rooming with sgatsby and
 sgatsby and  weredeus.

Placeholder And Progress.
Posted 15 years agoGood afternoon, all-- I'm at work at the moment, got called in. So I will probably be streaming later this evening or tomorrow. I guess I'll just fill some space for a bit.
Commissions have been going REALLY well as of late; I've been knocking out a LOT of the longstanding ones. I've been very driven the past month or so, and streaming a lot, for those who haven't noticed the FREQUENT "I'm streaming!" journals I've been writing. Here are just a few of the recently completed, for example, since I usually don't post the commissions I complete, but rather, leave them to be posted by the commissioners:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4456668/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4456628/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4469512/

http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4337331/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4488641/
Gonna be keeping it going, and then perhaps taking just a few more, though be warned. I'm gonna start being more selective on what I take on, as I don't want 'em to be as joyless as SOME of the ones I've done in the past. Sorry, but yeah, some of 'em I just wasn't feeling, and I want to be able to avoid that in the future.
Anyhow, just something to tide ya over til' next stream, which'll be announced. Take care.

FA:U TATTOOS. Wanna get inked @ the con? THEN READ.
Posted 15 years agoGood evening, all.
As mentioned in my last journal, I will be attending FurAffinity United at the end of May, and will be tattooing there. The following is copied and pasted from the previous journal:
Additionally, I got the ok from dragoneer a few days ago, so it's official-- I WILL be tattooing at FA:U. I wanted to get the approval first, before opening up for anyone interested in getting inked there. Now, this is gonna require some strict rules, so listen up.
 dragoneer a few days ago, so it's official-- I WILL be tattooing at FA:U. I wanted to get the approval first, before opening up for anyone interested in getting inked there. Now, this is gonna require some strict rules, so listen up.
Since I've been given the privilege to ink at the con, I am gonna be keeping as much of it in the dealer's room as possible, unless it's a tattoo that requires some privacy. That being said, APPOINTMENTS MUST BE MADE.
Lemme repeat this.
Appointments
For
Tattoos
At
FA:U
Must
Be
Made.
There's only so much time per day that the dealer's room will be open, and as such I will need to arrange a schedule for myself. I need to be in correspondence with you well in advance of the convention, regarding the design you want, placement, size, and how long I estimate your piece to take. The way I like to do things is, I have your stencil ready before I even arrive, so it's all pre-designated. Quick and easy. (If I've tattooed you before at a con, let 'em know!)
I also will NOT be doing walk-up tattoos. I don't agree with the idea of walk-ups; they're too sporadic, and I have no way of knowing if you've really given it enough thought. Now is the time to communicate if you want me to ink you, and to start the planning phase, so if interested, email me and we can get the ball rolling.
Once we get the design phase worked out, you must make a down-payment (which is deducted from the final price of the tattoo) to secure your spot, and then, you get inked at the con! That simple!
/copy&paste
I re-posted that little excerpt here, because in the last journal, there were no responses via email as of yet, and all the journal responses were "aw, sorry you're not going to AC" which I appreciate, but anyway-- trying to eliminate the possibility of people going to FA:U and seeing me and going "I didn't know you were gonna be here tattooing", even though it happens every year anyway. :)
SO LET'S END WITH A RECAP. If you want to get inked by me at FurAffinity United, then email me with details. The email's above. Back to work for now!

Posted 15 years agoMorning, all. It's 9am. Streaming now. http://jurassicbeauties.com/pages/livefeed.shtml
The past 2 weeks or so, I've been working my one dayjob and my two freelance side jobs (not counting furry art or tattooing), so I've been a bit indisposed. But I've got some time this morning, and as such I'm going to make a few announcements here via journal, then get to drawing/coloring!
Anthrocon 2010, Califur 2010:
I regret that I won't be making it to either-- particularly Califur, because for the second year they've wanted me to be a guest artist, and for the second year I've had to decline, 'cause I just can't afford to fly from NY to California :( I REALLY REALLY appreciate you guys and gals wanting me there, though, and I'm still doing your con shirt design-- keep an eye on your inbox! But yeah... Sorry, y'all. Maybe I'll be at AC next year.

I Will be at FA:U, as it's just a short distance away. Additionally, I got the ok from
 dragoneer a few days ago, so it's official-- I WILL be tattooing at FA:U. I wanted to get the approval first, before opening up for anyone interested in getting inked there. Now, this is gonna require some strict rules, so listen up.

Now, this is gonna require some strict rules, so listen up.Since I've been given the privilege to ink at the con, I am gonna be keeping as much of it in the dealer's room as possible, unless it's a tattoo that requires some privacy.
Fossil@JurassicBeauties.comOnce we get the design phase worked out, you must make a down-payment (which is deducted from the final price of the tattoo) to secure your spot, and then, you get inked at the con! That simple!
~~~
I am off until 2:30pm today, at which point I need to get ready to walk to work, so I'm gonna be getting some more commissions done in my LiveFeed on JurassicBeauties.com until then. Do stop by!
Oh, and preemptively, Happy Easter, tomorrow!
Reflections on the IA100 Challenge/Digicolor Badges OPEN.
Posted 15 years agoThe Iron Artist 100 is over.  Well that was definitely a challenge.  I wanted to share with you my thoughts on it, looking back.
I'm very glad I did it, but I wouldn't do it twice. I most assuredly learned a lot, about a lot of things.
-Firstly, I need to be smart enough to remember "if I'm opening a sketch slot, charge extra for multi-characters." I initially drew the first sketch with two chars because, well, it was for the guy who gave me the idea to even do this challenge, donryu.  However, after that one, predictably, everyone went "I want 2 chars too!"  and it snowballed.  Ah, well, no biggie.  People who've been starting the IA 100 challenge since, I've been sure to tell 'em "charge per character."
 donryu.  However, after that one, predictably, everyone went "I want 2 chars too!"  and it snowballed.  Ah, well, no biggie.  People who've been starting the IA 100 challenge since, I've been sure to tell 'em "charge per character."
-I need to further build up endurance in the face of repetition, especially if I'm ever to attempt any ongoing sequential storytelling venture. This is hypothetical, mind you, and I guess the only real way I'll know that for sure is to try. Won't be doing that until the proverbial plate is clean.
-It's a lot more productive when I can sketch and talk at the same time, instead of stopping to type. When I finally got booted from UStream, I made the move over to my own website and started making the LiveFeed, but as a result, haven't gotten audio functions going... yet.
-I like my chatroom/LiveFeed better than Ustream/LiveStream/Justin TV. Somewhere in the beginning of the challenge, I got banned from Ustream, as mentioned before. So, because of the IA100, now there's the JurassicBeauties.com LiveFeed. Always open, no password. Even in its' current state without sound, nothing beats the security of knowing that I won't get banned from it for drawing a tit. Also the fact that registering is free and takes 10 seconds, or the fact that you get an icon next to your name, or the fact that url's to images or YouTube videos will show up as thumbnails right in the chat... well, it's all very awesome. THANK YOU to the regulars who come in and keep me company, you made it easier.
-The ever-present 'Quality versus Quantity'. Some of these sketches were easy. Some of them were hard. I won't say which, but I'll say why. Some of the refs provided were cases of "how do I make this attractive?" and while this has always been true for one who draws commissions, it's harder when you are intentionally doing a sketch, instead of a more refined, more finished piece. Balancing "ok, quick, rough sketch" with "gotta make this look good' and "what the fuck is up with this character" was really a complex dance. I only hope that I'm tougher now for it. Gotta calibrate to the point where I can do better work, more often before burnout. I truly think this challenge helped with that, to some degree. It's felt like training to snatch pebbles from hands, if that makes sense. I'm ready to draw some big stuff. The digital badge I uploaded ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3342326 ) is an example of that.
-Don't hope to get Financially Stabilized. Fiscally, yeah, I made some money, but truthfully, it was gone as soon as I got it. Bills and stuff, bad economy, you know. And silly me, I thought this would really level me out in that department. BUT, I'm not complaining, because I did 'em all. I just had to take the time to do them, and not take on too much more in the meantime. I already felt guilty taking this challenge on when I did, because I owed people already.
With that being said, I feel good that I can now focus on the last few remaining commissions I have. I'm currently coloring damnationsedge's collab pic with
 damnationsedge's collab pic with  scullyraptor, and
 scullyraptor, and  dragonmassiel's pic is next.  I know
 dragonmassiel's pic is next.  I know  galis and
 galis and  firondraak and
 firondraak and  eurasia21xx are lined up.  I can see all the commissions I have remaining, and more, they're all started already.  It won't take long to finish them now.  I'd like to continue the momentum I've had since the beginning of this year... it's a good year for it.
SO...
I have 10 slots open for starters, for digital convention badges. They're drawn on 8.5x11 Bristol, inked with Micron, scanned, cleaned up, digitally colored, printed on high-quality paper, trimmed, laminated, and clipped, for $50.00.
The Digital Badge slots will be in the Footer of the journal.
(I should note, the badges are not themed unless you specify. It's coincidence that the second badge, and perhaps even the third is going to be Ghostbuster-themed. Don't every last one of you ask for a Ghostbuster or I swear I'm charging Proton Pack Tax.)
If interested, email me- Fossil at JurassicBeauties dotcom and let me know.
That's it for now, gotta get ready for work. See you soon!
