Has anyone else done this before? I've had a couple internships, the most relevant one being at a wildlife rehabilitation and education center, but never at a zoo or an aquarium. If anyone has any advice or experience, please share!

I'm currently updating my resume and writing new cover letters, and it's frustrating but exciting.

I know, it's been almost two months *cries* since Furry Weekend Atlanta 2013, but BOY WAS IT AWESOME.

Seriously, got to hang with some of the most hilarious people, met some amazing new friends, and HUGGED ALL THE FURSUITS.

Special shoutouts to my roomies  reimeerkat  rawkz0rz  sydstoat  hankpeters  leonicninja for just being so dang adorable I love you all! Also much love for  milkboneunderwear, who always knows how to have fun anytime, anywhere. And just that whole crew, you all are just so cute. It's like a gaggle of cute everywhere I looked! And all of my Ketucky Furs, especially  skytea  dragonchin_hexter  dragon_cushion aaaand the FABULOUS  archeus68 for driving us all and putting up with us!

Thanks to all the dancer furs at Friday's tryouts, especially  omgsparky,  thediesel  apollonighthusky and everyone else there who was so encouraging! I kinda froze and panicked, but it was a good experience dancing in front of people solo for the first time ever. Maybe next time I'll actually plan a choreo ahead of time! And practice, lol. Either way, it was fun!

Things I loved: Bus full o'furries with the  kentucky-furs!!!! DINNER BELL, missing the fursuit games to cuddle in suit with some honeys, epic pool party, Rawkz0rz's Thursday night RAWKTHEVOTE inflatable pool toy DJ set, and the ever-changing, always interesting headless fursuit lounge. Seriously meet the coolest folks in there. Some awesome furs even made the ElevatorCon2013 super fun, too.

You guys, I can't even begin to write just how awesome this con was. I'm still reeling a week later. I've met SO MANY AWESOME PEOPLE. Seriously, I love you all. If I've ever had my doubts about being in this fandom, they all went away just by spending time with you all. Sunday: last day of the con, made it epic, PSYCH THAT'S THE WRONG NUMBA, dance competition GROUP DANCE, y'all some CRUNCHY MOFOS, steak n' shake run, anthropomorphic mcdonalds, temp tat roulette (I got cinderella on my chest, blazing skull on my neck, winged skeletons with a guitar on my FACE, and Rainbow Dash cutie mark on my hip), multiple DIPSET RIOTS, then crashing a VIP party via collecting all the booze we had and offering it to get in, MIDWEST FIREFEST 2012

Well everyfur, I made it to Oz! I'll be down here for another week and a few days, so I won't be as responsive in that time. Nana has a much faster internet than when I visited 3 years ago, so it's tempting to be on here, but I'll try to enjoy my time here rather than spend it all on the interwebs. I might however offer some sketch commissions on the way back, since I'll have a very very very long flight ahead of me. Expect some examples in a few days, as Nana even has a scanner! So modern :D

Headed to Billabong Koala and Wildlife Park in a few days. They have snow leopards now!

I'm really really nervous. I mean, as a super-senior 5th year, I should be ready to go, right? I think I might have hung on here at my college for a little too long, but I'm going to miss it so much. Any graduates here? How's life after college? I plan on taking a few more classes eventually to finish my biology degree, as I switched and am now a major in Studio Art with a strong minor in Biology and Spanish. But as far as life after college I'll just be drifting for awhile.

At least my mind will be taken off the end of college with the fact that I'm headed to Australia a week from Wednesday, and will be gone for a little under two weeks! My mum is from Australia (hence the dingo half) and my Nana still lives there, so we're going to stay with her and hang out. My Nan is pretty awesome. After that I'll be starting my internship with my Ornithology professor. While birds aren't necessarily my primary focus, any experience in behavior and husbandry is going to help me in the long run, and I've had some good experience with birds while I interned at a wildlife rehab center last summer.

Anyway, I hope everyone is well. I'll be posting more of my art here after I finish up my screenprinting class. All of my recent Senior work is being organized and I'm trying to find a place for all my sculptures and masks!

Okay, I've been discussing with some of my college friends the extent of "mascot phobia" some people have. Now personally, as a kid, I adored mascot animals for the most part. Even Chuck E. Cheese, who was terrifying, was okay with me. Anything in a theme park, Disney World, etc, usually got my attention. I do understand that some mascots are terrifying, and some fursuits are unintentionally creepy. However, as a 5'2" individual, I don't think my costume is particularly scary or imposing. However, I know a few people who have very strong, visceral reactions to people in costume. Today in class a few art students were bashing mascot characters in front of me, knowing full well what I do, and it made me a little peeved. One said that they wished all costumed characters would die in a fire. I was like "Uh, wat?" They were also saying how they hated that someone was inside them, a sort of 'fake' character, or acting like something they are not. Which is funny, because isn't that what actors do?

I dunno, to me, when someone chimes in that they are 'afraid' of mascots/fursuits, I usually just think they're being childish. I understand children having a fear, but adults? I know of a few adults who have had actual terrifying encounters with mascot characters, and to me that's a little more understandable than the fashionable phrase to chime in and agree with your peers that you too dislike mascot characters for no apparent reason.

So have any of you had bad experiences either in costume, or had a friend tell you they have a fear of mascot characters/fursuits?

Does anyone here do volunteer or charity work while in fursuit? Or maybe people ask to rent you for their kid's birthday parties? I'm curious, as it's something I'd like to pursue in the near future. I've lived in a family daycare/preschool my whole life, so I'm pretty good with kids if I don't say so myself ;). I've also done volunteer work in all kinds of places for years, but never as an entertainer. Anyway, I think it would be a really rewarding thing to get into eventually.

I'll do a FWA recap...eventually! I'm trying to put together a video of it, but my buddy Acorn needs to send me the files.

So anyway, my See fursuit was of my submissions to the art show that culminates all our work over the past few years. It was such a big show (10 seniors) that I couldn't put every single piece in there, but I did manage to squeeze in a lot. I put annotations on the video so the titles of the pieces show up. Of course! I might decline grinding or dancing too close. In suit it's a bit harder to see others and it's not really See's style. But I do love dancing around others!

Please do! I love photo ops and will be animated for photos. I'll be taking some with other suiters as well!

Appropriate touching/petting is okay! And clean hands are a must!

No, I'd prefer not. See likes to play fetch or goof around sometimes, but I'd like to not have any unexpected costume difficulties.
