Waiting for my microns, bf's bday, I ate shit, and more...
Posted 2 weeks agoI haven't made a journal in a Jhonka's age (shoutout to the Homestarrunner fans who get my reference), so what's going on?
I've been on the up-and-up from a depressive episode, and despite still having hard moments (I'm looking at you, 12:30pm-2:45pm on a work day), I'm generally doing much better.
I got some 05 microns for Christmas last year, but of course when the one I've been using all year bites the dust, that's when I can't find the gifted pens. I didn't want to make the 20 min trek to the local Blick store, and my boyfriend said that for the gas money I spend going downtown to the store I might as well just pay shipping for an online order. So. I did. But now ofc I'm feeling the regret because that means I have to WAIT for shipping. They should be here soon, though. So I won't have to wait much longer.
My boyfriend's birthday was yesterday. He turned 33. We went to my parents' house for texas sheet cake on Friday night, and then on his actual birthday the next day I made an attempt at making fry bread for him...and failed miserably hahaha. It still tasted good, but it's just not FRY BREAD. He spent a chunk of his childhood on a Navajo reservation because his parents were doing a mission project there, so fry bread is a major comfort food.
This morning I went and got us coffee from Scooter's (a Starbucks competitor for my non-US friends). Seeing as Scooter's is a drivethru only, I decided to leave the house in my PJ pants. I thought to myself as I was waiting in line "maybe I shouldn't have left the house in pajamas. My Grandma would be rolling over in her grave knowing I'm doing this." When I got home and was walking up the landing stairs I wound up tripping on the hem of my pants and falling flat on my face. Miraculously the only coffee loss was the whipped cream on my boyfriend's mocha, which splattered all over the floor and into my hair. But I whacked my left leg against the steps, and I've got a massive welt. I also skinned up my right elbow from carpet burn, so I'm a little worse for wear after that adventure.
I think I'm gonna work on sewing a doll dress today that I've been procrastinating on for like what? A month? I might also go out shopping with a friend today and resist the temptation to get a Labubu hahaha.
Anyway yeah, that's the report.
Hope you're all doing well.

CHICAGO BOUND!!!!
Posted 5 months agoI'm going to Chicago this weekend, and I get on the train tomorrow and won't be back until Monday evening. My etsy shop is therefore closed until April 1 (promise it's not a prank lol).
I'm still open for commissions, just be aware that work won't start on any projects until I get home. We can discuss the plans, however. If you're interested in commissions then please message me on Telegram, because it'll be more likely that I'll see the message that way. eggdropcat is my handle on telegram.
I'm going to a lolita fashion and Japanese street fashion convention in Chicago, and I'm so nervous. This is the first time I've been this far from home in my adult life. I've never been this far from home without my parents. I'm 32 and can't shake the "I need an adult" feelings aaaaaaaaaaa. I'm determined to have fun, however. I'm going to go to the American Girl Place and buy Isabel Hoffman, the twin to my girl Nicki Hoffman that I got for my birthday.
I'll see you guys on the flip side.

Prooobably gonna take a hiatus
Posted 7 months agoOr at least try to anyway.
I've been super burnt out on art, which is no surprise because I've been drawing every day and regularly putting out multiple full color illustrations a week since last July.
I need to give myself a little vacation to rest and not be constantly producing art. As much as I love drawing, it really takes a toll on me after a while.
I'm gonna put focus into my doll collection. I've brought home my childhood Felicity American Girl doll from my parents' house and I'm restoring her to her former glory. I've also bought some fun y2k outfits for Nicki Hoffman, who's one of the two 1999 dolls in the American Girl historic character line.
I'm also crocheting a stuffed kid Stolas, so I'm gonna be working on that as well.
I tripped and ate sh*t on the pavement last night while trying to run to catch up with some friends at an event downtown. I took a chunk of flesh out of each knee and have scrapes all over my hand, so that will probably make it difficult to draw anyway.
Anyway, I'll be back posting after maybe a week or so. At least give my hands time to heal.

Such a good autumn so far
Posted 10 months agoI've had such a nice couple of months after such a crummy summer.
I've been doing a local art fair almost every Sunday, and I've gotten commissioned eight times in the last two months. I'm genuinely so thankful for that support.
I'm nowhere near breaking even on my supply costs, though. I'd be closer if I hadn't spent the money prepping for the art fair by buying the displays and tent. No regrets, however. I'm going to make it to the break even point eventually. In the meantime I'm just going to keep on going.
I've gotten to do three badges, five buttons, and four marker drawings. It's been such a great journey, getting to make art for other people. Getting to draw other people's fursonas and favorite characters. I'm genuinely so thankful for the support I've received. I know I keep saying that, but it's true.
Even the little things like the likes and comments from those of you who aren't monetarily supporting me makes such a huge huge difference, and motivates me to keep going and making fantastic art.
I love you all, and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the love you throw at me every day.

Traditional Comms!
Posted a year agoHey all!
Recently I've decided to prioritize traditional art. Digital art doesn't bring me as much joy as traditional art does.
I'm open for multiple types of traditional art commissions, which I will ship to you directly. ^w^

Character Redesigns
Posted a year agoHey all, long time no post.
Recently I've decided to redesign my characters, and I added a new character.
EggDrop has been redesigned to be a tortie devon rex cat. Miso has been renamed to Ari, given a haircut, and gotten top surgery.
I'll slowly be working on updating logos and such to match the new character design.
I also added a new character. A Rabbit named Shiro. I've been drawing her in various outfits, and I'm really enjoying her.
Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well.

2024 comms update
Posted a year agoDecided to update my commission terms. Hoping that I can get more traction with a lower price, at least while I grow my audience.
I’m not trying to make my entire living on art right now, I’m actually thriving at my day job. I still want to be able to sell my art, though, because it brings me fulfillment.
This journal used to include a link to digital art terms, which I'm not open for anymore, so I'm editing it to remove them.
Hoping this year has been treating everyone nicely.

Life update
Posted 2 years agoFigured I'd give a little update for those of you who might care.
April 30 my boyfriend was in a motorcycle accident and was lucky to get out of it alive. He broke his shoulder in the wreck and had to have surgery on it, and I played caretaker for a few months. Since July I've had ongoing hives that will not let up. I finally saw an allergist last month, and she did some bloodwork to rule out certain diseases that have hives as a symptom, but in the end she determined that they were stress hives, which checks out after having dealt with the aforementioned life threatening experience I witnessed.
My boyfriend is doing much better, and I'm very grateful for that. Throughout this year I've had a hard time being creative, especially with all of that. I'm finally getting better, and I'm making art a little more often these days. I'm hoping that 2024 will be gentler to us, and that it'll be a great year for creative growth. I'm going to try to get a head start throughout these next two months. :3

2023 Posting Schedule Update
Posted 2 years agoHey all! 2023 is here, and I'm going to make some needed changes to my posting schedule.
I have a new schedule at work, which makes keeping up with my current schedule very difficult. I'll be changing it to the following:
◍ Ink drawings on Mondays and Fridays
◍ Full color drawings on Wednesdays
◍ Sketchbook drawings are not going to be consistently posted on the off days, but will be sprinkled here and there. They'll be posted into scraps from here on out.
I hope everyone has a happy new year!
See you 'round. :3

Where have I been?
Posted 2 years agoI've been missing for a little over a week. Yikes!
I had to prep for my coven's Yule ritual that I was co-leading, then I had to sew my partner's present. It felt like a lot, but now it's all done. I'm able to rest, and therefore I'm able to draw. Yeeeeeeee.

In regards to my absence
Posted 3 years agoI know my posting schedule has not been regular as promised but it’s been a very hard week for me as my grandpa passed away last Tuesday. I had been on bereavement all last week and the last thing in my mind was keeping up with a posting schedule.
I’m back to my day job now and so I’m going to be working towards getting back into my normal posting schedule. I may slack on the sketchbook entries for a bit I’m not sure, but I definitely plan on getting the finished pieces posted on mondays, wednesdays, and fridays.
hope everyone is well

Thank you for the watch + life update
Posted 3 years agoI saw that I got two new watchers but I nuked the notifs before I thought to go leave a shout, so you know who you are and thank you for the watch! If you want to let me know who you are I'd really appreciate that.
Anyway life update:
I haven't posted the last two days because I had a busy weekend. Saturday I worked all day and then when I got off work I just wanted to crash. I didn't get around to posting art on my lunch break like I normally do, and I truly apologize. Then after work I was pooped like I said. Sunday was really busy as I went to the Renaissance Festival with my lolita fashion community and was there most of the day. I had a lot of fun, and came home with a sore leg from walking all day. I'm super out of shape omg haha.
I got some new copics so I was really eager to draw today, and I managed to do really well to get my October 3rd themed drawing out for you guys in a timely manner. I don't remember the last time I did holiday themed artwork (if you can call mean girls day a holiday, but you get what I mean.) I'm hoping to get some Halloween art out this year, so I'll just have to hold myself to it. :3
Anyway, how have you guys been?

New posting schedule
Posted 3 years agoHeyo!
So I'm trying to be more organized with my artwork posting because I know it's sporadic asf.
I'm planning on doing a posting schedule from here on out.
◍ Full color pieces every Monday and Friday
◍ Ink drawings every Wednesday
◍ and sketchbook entries on the off days.
Depending on what else is going on during the week this can be subject to change, but I'm going to make it a high priority to keep to this schedule so that you guys have more to look forward to. ^_^
Thank you for sticking around. <3 Ily.

Hyperfixations and Anxiety
Posted 3 years agoGeez. Where to begin.
Around the middle of June I went to a big event dedicated to Japanese Harajuku fashion. I've worn lolita fashion since 2015 and so I wore it to that event. I met people I had only known online at that event and idk why but that made me spiral into a pit of anxiety over my self worth. "Am I good enough?" "Do I look bad in this?" "Am I too fat?" etc etc. Eventually I just found myself not wanting to wear the fashion. In July I just really didn't wear lolita very much, and in fact was so absorbed in snakes and reptiles that I didn't really do anything except watch reptile youtubers, browse r/ballpython, shop for my snake supplies, and feel giddy as I got closer to bringing home my boy. I just lived and breathed reptiles. What little art I produced was just drawings of reptiles in my sketchbook (I need to post them but keep forgetting because sketchbooks are kind of ugly lol). Now that I have my snake I feel the hyperfixation calming down. I love my boy but he's not my entire personality. I've gotten help for my anxiety and so I'm slowly getting back to enjoying dressing up. I'm also starting to feel free to draw again. Thank GODS omg.

HAPPY SNEK DAY TO THOSE WHO CELEBRATE
Posted 3 years agoHAPPY SNEK DAY!
I brought home my ball python today. His name is Basil (rhymes with "dazzle").
I've got a picture of me holding him in my scraps right now. He's in no touchy mode for a week until he's settled in enough to eat, so there won't be a whole lot of pictures between now and then. I might post some that I've taken today that aren't the most clear, but idk yet.
I want to draw so many more snakes omggggg. I love him so much. He's an absolute muse.
anyway 'kay thanks bye.

Snek
Posted 3 years agoSo way earlier this year I decided that I'm going to get a ball python this year. I've spent a lot of time researching set ups and trying to figure out what I'll do. I wanted to save up general life emergency money before I start saving for a snake, and now I'm finally in a place where I'm starting to buy the stuff I need to put together my enclosure. I'm going to be getting a juvenile at our local reptile show in September, so I've got a deadline to meet. I'm spending July buying the supplies for the set up, and August will be troubleshooting temperature and humidity. That should give me enough time to get a home set up just right before the show in mid September. I might be allowing myself way too much time, but I'm generally anxious and want to have everything 100% perfect before bringing home baby. I'm allowing myself to bring $500 cash so that I have the option of getting a pretty morph instead of just a normal type. I'm hoping I can find a standard piebald within that budget. I've seen them between $400 and $500 as long as there isn't any intricate morph layering that drives the price up, but whether or not someone at the show will have one is another matter all together. I also like pastel enchis quite a bit, and those tend to run within budget, so I'm going to be on the lookout for one of those. I'm really so excited to be bringing home this new pet, and I'm going to do everything in my power to give it the best life imaginable.
Drive to Draw
Posted 3 years agoI took today off as a vacation day because I intended to go to a get together in memory of a work friend who passed away recently, but it's snowing and so idk if I'm going to go since the event is over a half hour drive away. I've spent all of this morning re-watching s1 of Attack on Titan and drawing. I hate coloring things in quite a lot but every time I set my ipad down I get really antsy and want to continue working on drawing, my wrist needs a break though. I'm so invested in my characters rn, I swear that drawing is the only thing that gives me joy. I used to feel this way when I was a kid and all throughout highschool, but sometime in my 20's I lost the drive to draw. I'm really glad to have it back now. I drew throughout my 20's of course, but I didn't draw very often. My instagram was slow to update and my skill level suffered for lack of practice. I'm getting my act back together now, though.
Anyway, that's just a little update of my life.
Peace out!

Etsy shop is live!
Posted 3 years agoI opened up my Etsy shop today! So far I've only listed custom buttons, but I'll have regular commissions opened tomorrow (2/22/22) by end of day. I'm really excited to go on this journey. I've wanted to open an Etsy shop since I was 16. ;w;
The options available when I'm finished tomorrow will be:
•Marker drawing commissions
•Ink/lineart commissions
•Pencil drawing commissions
•The aforementioned 2.25" buttons
I might do digital commissions later on down the road.
edit: I goofed and forgot to include the URL because I thought I could link it in my profile and then found out I couldn't.
