Calling out an FA User: Tlai Laxu
Posted 14 years agoShit's gone down, and I've got to point fingers.
I'm calling out
TlaiLaxu
Without a doubt, Tlai Laxu is one of the single nicest, kindest and most generous people I have EVER had the privilege and honor to meet. And I mean that. He's got a quirky sense of humor (just trust me on this), but damn, I've never met somebody more sincere and outright incredible. Doesn't complain, doesn't bad mouth, says what he needs to say and is just... well, awesome. Completely awesome.
It's a rare privilege when I can say I've honestly enjoyed having somebody crash at our place, and you made Anthrocon just that much better.
To you, sir, I tip my hat.

Posted 14 years agoAnthrocon was over, and had a great time.
Props to Blastgoggles (next time, the last Coke is MINE!), 2 (was an awesomely long talk at the bar! Was in need of brain food like that), Toast (yaybunny!), Greenreaper, Brokenwing, Damaratus (sexeh abs!), Nek0gami (funniest guy in the fandom, hands down), Tlai Laxu (for being generally just awesome), Kima, DotRook, BlakDrgn, Kryphos, Baka Saka/Jack, the goodly Capt'n Jack Sparrow, Zero and Cray and everybody else we got to hang out with! Was a fun time.
Oh, and apparently me and my "hired thugs" attempted to kidnap some dude at the con (and threatened to sue, too! Kidnapping and a side order of lawsuit!). =P Best rumor of the entire con. Of any con. Ever. We had a good laugh about it (and so did the Pittsburgh police!). Some of my friends on Anthrocon's security were keeping me in the know about what was going on. Was humorous.
We gave out about 80+ limited edition FA lanyards for those who found us on Sunday. Enjoy!
Much, much, MUCH more FA-related info coming soon. Some major announcements soon as well (UI and other stuff).
Spent 9+ hours driving hone today. I'm burned out, don't want to see another car for quite some time. Now to cram 5 hours of sleep and get back to work.

Wedding Cake Design Contest
Posted 14 years agoHowdy, everybody!
We need help designing a cake for our wedding. That's right! Sciggles and I are getting hitched! We're having a Fall themed wedding, so think red, orange, yellow, burgundy, purples, Halloween. Even Gothic themes are welcome, down to the Nightmare Before Christmas and such type things! Swirls, stripes, dots, bright colors, dark colors. The layers do not have to match each other.
We're looking for something simple that shows our personalities. You can include our characters in the design if you would like keep in mind SMALL cake, biggest being 3 tier cake, we also like the idea of cupcakes!
Think this http://media.theknot.com/ImageStage.....arge_image.jpg

FIRST PLACE - Cash prize of $150

And once again annual Treejaculation season is in full swing. Pollen EVERYWHERE! The nation is being buried under dusty waves of yellow tree spunk. It's on your car. It's on you. It's in your lungs. And the trees? They don't even have the courtesy for a reach around.
Not cool.

This journal is somewhat of a serious note. I'm not usually the emotional sort, but it breaks my heart to hear stories about animal abuse. I won't stand for it.
For the past three years FA and FA United have worked with the NJ SPCA as our convention's charity, and we've gone out of our way to to raise money and support their cause. The men and women of the NJ SPCA put their lives on the line to save animals from abuse and put the people who'd harm them behind bars.
I'm not sure how many of you have heard about the story of Patrick (dubbed the "Miracle Dog"). Patrick was abused, beaten, starved and stuffed into a bag, left for dead. The dog fought for life, and carried on when most wouldn't. Thankfully, the pup was rescued. Check the links above. They're heartbreaking, they're hard to watch... yet inspirational and sweet.
Patrick's story was enough to make me cry (I'll admit it). And thankfully, Patrick's story has been heard 'round the world. The recovering pup has received an outpouring of support from fans and donors looking to support the lil' guy. <3
Today, while talking to Sgt. Peterson from the NJ SPCA today, I learned that he was the arresting officer of Patrick's abuser. He's been in-and-out of court on the issue, giving testimony. Hell, in some instances he's been in court fighting animal specific cases of animal abuse for over four years running. We don't like to think about the horrors that befall our four legged friends, but they're very real.
Thanks to Sgt. Peterson (recently promoted at that!) the people who'd bring harm to those animals can be put to justice. It's a thankless act that rarely goes rewarded.
If you're going to FA United, and you see Sgt. Peterson or you attend his panel (where he'll be discussing Patrick's story from the legal perspective) be sure to give him your thanks. Seriously. These people go above and beyond to do something good, something honest and noble.
This man is a hero, and I'm damn proud to have the NJ SPCA stand as FA's charity.

FA Donations Re-Opened
Posted 14 years agoJust a quick note - we've re-opened donations for FA. Currently, we're accepting money order donations to the site, and should be able to take payments online within the next 2-4 weeks as well.
http://donations.furaffinity.net/
Payments can be sent to:
Ferrox Art LLC
P.O. Box 207
Hamburg, PA 19526
And for those wondering why donate? Folders, new UI and other significant updates. Pretty much less than two months away. We'll be opening the beta at FAU, and will be doing a live panel to show off some of the new features of the site.
Thanks,
Neerbutt

Commission + Iron Artist Status
Posted 14 years agoHey all,
Just a note - I setup a new twitter called Neermissions (link) for people to keep track of status updates on my commissions and Iron Artist updates. I'll also be posting on there when I'm doing LiveStreams and other art related info.
I know there've been a few questions (Why is IA taking so long) but I am working on them, and getting a lot of progress done. I'll have a lot more posted and updated soon.
If you have questions feel free to ask me.

Waterloo Furry Survey 2011
Posted 14 years agoSome of you may notice a new link ("UW Furry Survey 2011") on the site. This is a survey sponsored by the University of Waterloo, who regularly does surveys and inquiries into the fandom and our culture (they've been present at Anthrocon for the past five years). The University of Waterloo wants to target furries beyond the halls of Anthrocon, and have asked Fur Affinity to help spread the word.
It's a good group, and one vetted by Kagemushi and company. With that, I'm proud to give them a link for two weeks on the site to get information and inquire with the fandom.
All responses are anonymous. Feel free to give the link a click, and give the good people a bit of feedback.

Project Messiah
Posted 14 years agoA few days ago, Project Messiah announced they were cutting the costs of their 3D animating software "Messiah Studio 5" for a rare promotional deal. $10 for the basic version (regularly $499) and $40 for the pro version (regularly $1,195). They had only one caveat: they had to reach a specific number of sales for people to get their prices. Yesterday, they got it.
So, for those of you aspiring 3D artists out there looking to get legal, solid and pretty decent professional 3D software can now grab it (legally!) for as little as $10... for the next four hours.
http://www.projectmessiah.com/x6/shop.html
It's a pretty limited sale. Support the devs, get good software. Know people interested in real 3D modeling? Be sure to send 'em to this journal (or to the link above!).
Again, it's a rather time sensitive deal, so... pass it on!
