Oh yes. Birthday of the Kaisura, today it is.
General | Posted 19 years agoYep. Happy birthday to me. It actually wasn't as bad as I expected - nothing near as bad as the last few years at least. I'm quite thankful for that. Hardly been spotless, of course...but, only a fool asks for perfection. I'm just glad two of the three people I wanted the most to spend the day with were here.
As to the matter of birthday giftart. I'm not actually the kind to expect it, though I'm thankful for every piece. I will, however, keep a little list of those who've done pieces. This is NOT complete nor is it in any particular order.

I'll update the list if it grows. Also, if you do wish to wish me a happy birthday, please dont be offended if I dont respond/thank you today. I'll do my best to keep up.

"DevX"...what?
General | Posted 19 years agoI need a new pen-name.
(I actually had a whole journal written out explaining where I got DevX from to begin with and all that wonderful shit just to have a larf with you guys but FA is too fucked in the face apparently to even handle journals. Booyah.)

that would be the username of an individual on yahoo messenger who seems to believe they have the right to use whoever's art they like to make their user-icons, without permission, and blocks folks when they're told to take them down.
^_^ just thought you nice folks of the art community would like to know.
Peace.

Anyway, yeah. My birthday is on Jan 7th. Just over a week from now.
Only one thing I really want...

Anyway. Enjoy. Or something.

Rejoice in the honor *shake fist*
On an aside; go check him out, if you haven't already. He's brilliant. And he's even gonna draw Dev! <3<3

Updates (kind of)
General | Posted 19 years agoMy user-page/profile section has been overhauled (kind of actually exists now)
I've re-added my AIM handle for contact purposes (but I make no guarentees of a response - I do stuff like everybody else)
An irc-based KRDP chatroom (with an optional super-simple web-based java applet for the non-irc-savvy) will be opening veeeery soon. I'll announce it and give the address in a journal when it is.
As to the KRDP website -itself-, it is progressing very nicely. If things keep up you can expect a fully functional launch by mid january.
Peace.

Three questions (not the truth or dare meme >:|)
General | Posted 19 years agoOkay, so here's the deal. You get to ask three questions, any three questions you want, about MY FURSONA (Dev). Not about me, not about my life, not about random hoohas. Any three questions you want, about Dev, and I'll answer 'em.
Note: Not trying to start a meme here, but I don't really care if people want to try this elsewhere. I'm just bored and feeling generous :D

General | Posted 19 years agoThe Kaisura race data has been pulled.
As much as I'm sure the flaming morons who've seen fit to strike out at me recently would like to think, this has nothing to do with their stupidity. The data has been pulled in preporation for proper presentation on the KRDP website when it goes up, pending further revision and cleanup.
Incidently, I'd just like to extend a big warm "lol" to those people who actually thought so much of themselves they could even entertain the idea they were doing anyone but themself any favors, by attacking someone over their god given rights pertaining to their own creation. Really, you're funny. You should take that act on the road. :3
This is probably going to be my last journal for a while, as I'm sure these few dregs of the furry fandom are already lighting the torches to strike back, for great justice lol
Frankly, I don't care.
Now, on the more positive side. Illustrative material to go with the Kaisura race data will be made available on the KRDP website along with the data itself, for a more proper presentation.
Further, template/referrence material for the creation of one's own Kaisura/Kaisiri/Kaisoru/Kaisesu will be made available on the KRDP site, along with a formal registration mechanic to identify the Kaisura* you make as an official one. (Haha, oh shit, did I forget to mention that part?), along with an up-to-date list of registered Kaisura* characters.
And no, before anyone even tempts having the utterly retarded thought, it's not a strict system; and there's no payment involved. Dont be an idiot, it's a fiction, not a service. This mechanic is being developed so those who wish to make a Kaisura can be assured it is accurate; and recognized with authority to be; an actual Kaisura.
Why have I previously said no one will be allowed to make one in spite of this? It's simple. Simple enough even for the morons who've attacked me so far to grasp; I DIDNT WANT TO BE FLOODED WITH REQUESTS AND HALF-ASSED ATTEMPTS. I'm sure even the most limited intellect can grasp that simple concept. The entire point the registration mechanic is to keep things clean; organized; and accurate. So I can be sure that people joining the fiction, for whatever reason they do so, are not just going to insult my creation with inaccurate tripe.
However, registered, individual Kaisura* characters will still be copyrighted property of their respective creators/owners, of course. The only expectation would be that credit for the Kaisura* race be given where due, not any kind of shared ownership or anything stupid like that. I have no problem with people creating an 'authentic' Kaisura that fits within the fiction so long as they have the basic respect to credit where the ideas came from.
Now, hopefully, this has completely cleared up this whole issue. But I'm not counting on it, based on how just incredibly immature and flat-out attrociously some people have behaved thus far. To those who WERE understanding, supportive, and respectful, however; I would like to extend my deepest thanks for proving there are still good people left in this fandom.

Just a reminder to my faithful watchers
General | Posted 19 years agoWell, a few reminders and a news-tidbit, really.
News tidbit: A KRP (Kaisura Race Project) website is in considerations.
Reminder 1: Illustrated material pertaining to the KRP will be available in the short term.
Reminder 2: Artist recommendations;
JessicaElwood http://www.furaffinity.net/user/jessicaelwood/
> My protige, closest beloved friend, and an excellent artist. If you haven't checked her out yet; WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU!? THE KAISURA DEMANDS IT. *cough* Seriously, she's good, go check her out.
Koh http://www.furaffinity.net/user/[koh]/
> An old..acquaintence? Maybe a friend. Hard to tell these days. BESIDES THE POINT. Guy's a good artist; took a long hiatus, and is coming back with new and improved stuff. Go watch him, NOW. He's funny, he's crazy, and his work is guarenteed to be priceless when he starts posting it.
Tojyo http://www.furaffinity.net/user/tojyo/
> I DO NOT know if he's the same guy who did all that awesome sonic porn back in the day, but I have a strong suspicion it might be. IRREGARDLESS, he's new to FA, but his work is GREAT. Do yourself a favor, go check him out
Trancymick http://www.furaffinity.net/user/trancymick/
> This guy ROCKS. This is the guy who INVENTED Sergals; and it's not his only trick. The guy's work just rules. Do yourself a favor, if you like truly high quality furry art, go check him out.
ChimeraSynx http://www.furaffinity.net/user/chimerasynx/
> If you like Dev and/or Kaisuras, and anything else out of the ordinary, irregular, freaky, and otherwise unique, do yourself a big, big favor, and go check this guy out. Not only is he a brilliant artist, his creatures fucking RULE. End of story.
Peace y'all.

Truth or Dare meme (yeah..me too)

Okay, here's the deal. You get to ask me THREE QUESTIONS, no matter how crazy, inappropriate, or just random, and I promise to answer it 100% truthfully (thats the "truth" part).
Now I dare you to repost this and see what people ask you!
But you knew how it worked anyway by now, surely. So go ahead, if you dare.

Honest Opinions: Windows XP, XP 64, and Vista
General | Posted 19 years ago Forenote
While I do have a high degree of technical training, I am not going to sit here and berrate you (as if you have to read this anyway, lol) with the /overtly/ technical aspects of this subject. While I have tested and weighed all three incarnations of windows on their technical aspects, I do not believe the majority of computer users should EVER care about them, because whether you know what they are or not there is a minimal chance you honestly understand what effect they have on the actual behavior of the operating system, and developers have a bad habbit of exaggerating, or flat out mis-explaining these things.
This is written from, and intended as, a user-friendly opinion, for people who wonder which windows they should be using, and whether they're worth using. Nothing more.
Windows XP
Most people already use XP. Contrary to a long list of critics and linux-fanboys who'll say anything to make their precious "ideal" alternative look better, THERE. IS. NOTHING. WRONG. WITH. XP.
It is not the -perfect- operating system, NOTHING IS, but it is NOT inherently FLAWED either. XP works JUST FINE, if handled correctly. First and foremost, Windows XP should always be upgraded to SP2, as support for vanilla XP ended long ago, and SP1 doesn't perform quite as well and doesn't support the same range of enhanced software, especially security software.
The BIGGEST mistakes people make with XP are failing to install adequet security software IMMEDIATELY after installing XP (permafying it before anything later installed), and NOT using Windows Update (dont be stupid; it's there for a reason - Windows Update consistantly improves Windows' security and removes vulnerabilities as quickly as they're found, no other software on earth is kept this up to date sparing anti-virus sollutions.
And last but not least; DO NOT USE SYSTEM RESTORE. Keep it turned off until you have finished setting up the system, then turn it off (keeping only that restore point of the clean, finished install), OR YOU WILL HAVE PROBLEMS LATER. System Restore (the feature, not the operating system of which it is a part), is a flawed concept. It was a good idea, but badly realized, because it WILL restore viruses and spyware that were present on the system when the restore point was generated.
The ideal sollution for Windows XP comes down to a very simple formula;
* Install Windows XP, SP2
* Immediately install reputable anti-virus, spyware, and enhanced firewall software
* Run windows update REPEATEDLY, using the "Custom Install" option to ensure you have obtained all the updates possible on your machine, and remember to keep it turned on
* Manually a set a restore point NOW, and turn the feature off immediately afterward (this will secure a clean, last-resort point in the case of system failure)
ONLY once you have done this, THEN install your drivers, chat programs, games, and whatever else.
I guarentee you, following these simple, common sense steps when setting up a Windows XP system will ensure a stable, long-lasting install.
Windows XP 64
Do you have a 64 bit processor? If not, don't bother reading this.
For those who didn't understand, Windows XP 64 is -literally-, Windows XP SP2 -optimized- for 64 bit processors. Nothing more, nothing less. It is the exact same operating system, optimized for 64 bit processors.
However, this does NOT mean it is BETTER for 64 bit processors. XP 64 bit will run exactly the same on a low-end 64 bit processor as XP would.
-BUT-
If you have a HIGH END 64 bit processor, XP 64 -WILL- run faster and more effeciently on your machine than XP can.
Is XP 64 worth it? Yes and no. It's worth using if you have a high-end 64 bit processor. But it is NOT worth paying for. Find a friend or contact who already has it, or take your chances on a torrent, and get a faked copy of it. The fact is, XP 64 is an over-glorified XP with a 64 bit optimization service pack. It should have been shipped as a free service pack to begin with.
Windows Vista
Linux fanboys and windows-haters; fuck off right now. You wont like what you hear beyond this point. And I dont want your arrogant, dumbass bullshit spreading on my journal. If you want an honest opinion of Vista, however, read on.
Windows Vista is; DEFINETELY, worth getting, if you have a system that can handle it. Ignore the bullshit drivelling from the mouths of opiniated morons and linux-lovers. It is NOT just a new kind of Microsoft evil.
What people (especially the people who fill their empty lives by bashing windows) fail to comprehend, is that Vista is an entirely new system. The vast majority of system services and processes have been replaced and rebuilt from scratch. Vista looks varyingly similar to XP -only- for the sake of familiarity, and so the average person wouldn't need a learning curve to use it. All of the 'mechanics' of the system have changed.
And if you're a gamer or 3D modeller/renderer, I /strongly/ advise you secure a copy of Vista all the more, as soon as you can. Vista supports remarkable amounts of memory compared to XP, not only which, Vista is capable of dedicating massively more memory to single programs than XP could, an unprecidented level of resource allowance that VASTLY improves performance and responsiveness of games and 3D construction/rendering applications.
The short, simple, and clean of it is this;
No operating system (Vista included) is worth the MONEY they're going to charge for Vista, BUT;
Vista is DEFINETELY worth switching to.
On a closing note I'd just like to clear up a bit of misconception regarding Vista, and the kind of system you need to run. THere seems to be a running fiction that Vista wont run; or wont run very well, without high end hardware. This is horrible incorrect.
The facts are that Vista's new mechanics are far more effecient than XP, you DO NOT need more than a 1GHZ processor, you DO NOT need more than 512MB of ram (though you shouldn't run so little these days anyway), the only thing you will need, is atleast a 30 to 40 gigabyte hard-drive, because Vista takes up to 10GB of space fully installed.
And that's the whole shebang folks. Hope it helps some people.

General | Posted 19 years agoI've removed my previous journal, as you may have noticed, documenting my thoughts on this whole cub situation.
While the majority of responders agreed with me, about my views on both sides, I don't want to participate in any way in this anymore, not even by an expressive journal limited to my own opinions as an individual.
Call it apathy, call it whatever you want. I wont leave the site. And I don't think anyone else should; but at the end of the day, it's their own decision, and everyone on this earth only has to answer to one person in the grand scheme of things:
Themself.

Random blurt for the day!
General | Posted 19 years agoI need a new icon. But I'm too lazy to make one :o
I need a new, decent wallpaper. ...but I'm too lazy to make one XD
I've been writing so much lately (for something you'll never get to see! :D), that the backlighting in some of my keys has dulled/stopped working o_o
I might be opening a new contest in collaboration with Fur. ...if I stop being lazy on the concept XD
I've been feeling a bit better lately. But still hugely unsocial. S'the way it is.
I'm resurrecting one of my older versions (an older version of Dev), as a new character. Because I can.
Muzz/Eddie's "Eddie" rules, I've decided.
Silent Hill 5 is taking entirely too long to come out. I NEED IT. *rocks back and forth*
Internet Explorer 7 rocks. Irregardless of the MS bashers who spout endless drivel to the contrary without even TRYING the damn thing.
Oh. Do people really think I don't like/hate/have no interest in human and almost-human characters? o_O

Silent Hill 5 is taking entirely too long to come out. I NEED IT. *rocks back and forth*
Internet Explorer 7 rocks. Irregardless of the MS bashers who spout endless drivel to the contrary without even TRYING the damn thing.
Oh. Do people really think I don't like/hate/have no interest in human and almost-human characters? o_O
Eh, explanations
General | Posted 19 years agoAlright, so. As only a select few would previously have known, my father died just recently.
But yeah, only after he died, I found out he wasn't really my father afterall, not biologically at least. Apparently my mom doesn't even know who my father actually was.
My father and I were never what you'd call close. Hell, the way we got along, I probably would have ended up killing him myself eventually. Bleh. Somehow though, his death still hit me like a truck..probably because he died of a heart defect, and I also happen to have one, though a different kind.
Anyway the funeral should have been last week, but the coroner wasn't releasing his body for some reason. No one would tell me why. Heh, found out yesterday. Turns out his family in Germany demanded the body be shipped back to Germany for burial there. And his current wife being the inconsiderate sloth she is, let them do it.
So I can't even go the funeral. heh.
Anyway. I'm not going to say I'm okay, obviously. But I'm not entirely fucked up either. I'm unstable. Swinging from calm to deep depression to anger to anxiety and back again randomly, set off by the stupidest, smallest things.
This is also why I've not been really responding to anyone who tries to message me. I don't mean to be insulting but the simply fact is, things how they are, there are very, very few people I have any interest in talking to at all, and they already know who they are.
Yeah. I'm also going to ask you don't ask any questions or anything from all this. The fact is, I didn't really want to explain this in the first place, but people seem to actually be worried about me, and I felt I owed them at least this much. But this is as much I'm giving, put frankly, I don't want or need to talk about it, and I don't feel like answering questions.
And for the foreseeable future, I don't see much chance of that changing.
All my love to my mates Fur and Shimmy, and Jess.

Clarification on the Dev/Fur relationship
General | Posted 19 years ago'coz there seems to be some confusion :p
Dev is Fur's mother (not father, mother; shi gave birth to her :p)
And they are mated to one another, simultaneously.
Mother/Daughter relationship +10
Simple? :p

October 19th
General | Posted 19 years agoYes, I'm still alive. Still.
Been sick a couple of days this week. Bleh. Teeth have been hurting a bit too lately. No problems with my infamously bad paw, though. Heart's been holding together pretty well. Might not even need to keep taking my meds in the near future.
SHORT-TERM:
* Want to reach level 40 on RF by the end of the week
* Want to finish a big personal project I've been working on for Fur
* Need to choose between the couple of job offers I have and get out of this current job that's just stressing me into the floor
MID-TERM:
* Getting a tattoo
* Getting something new pierced
* Getting a prescription for semi-permanent eye-colour changing contacts
LONG-TERM:
* Re-establishing real momentum in my funding to move to Canada
* World domination
* Kill all who read the above (they know too much)

What..what!? O_o
General | Posted 19 years agoNo, I'm not dead. Surprise!
Anyway.
This hasn't come up too much, but I felt like speaking about it, if not just to prove I'm not dead.
I AM NOT A SERGAL :F
Or and LGD (point of fact; I came first, they were invented long after me)
Sergals I believe came first. Definetely before the final revision of my physical design, which was -influenced- (though not based in) a sergal's basic structure.
There is a very significant amount of difference between me (Kaisura), and a Sergal, all of which can be duely noted in my refsheet.
However.
I do concede there is a level of physical semblance, due to influence, between Kaisura, Sergals, and Synx (ChimeraSynx's character). Thus;
I believe it could be theorized (if only for the novelty), that Sergal, Kaisura, and Synx are all species derrived from a common genus (like foxes, coyotes, and wolves are all individual species derrived from the single canine genus)
HOWEVER. I have no discussed this concept with Trancy Mick, or ChimeraSynx. I am not stating it as fact or official fiction. It's a theory spoken in novelty, nothing more.
Long story short.
Devon/Me - Kaisura, not a sergal.
Oh and I'm still alive and such, just not very active much anymore. Live with it. I'm still around :F

General | Posted 19 years agoWhen something terrible happens in your life, that's bad.
When something terrible happens in your life, and someone who supposedly loves you doesn't even care?
Well..that's the end of that. =/

As a matter of fact..
General | Posted 19 years agoNo, that actually pissed me off. Not all that much, really. People say stupid things all the time, you deal with it or you go insane, but seriously.
What the HELL defect is it that makes a person mistakenly presume themself an expert on the quality and/or details of a game based solely on "a review they read"?
Even more annoying is people who class ALL games in a certain genre into a single catagory. Because god knows, they are all 100% identical, there are no differences in them, they all adhere to the exact same rules, pattern, and qualities. Yes, in your little imaginary world maybe.
"All MMO's are shit after their first impression", "FPS games never have a good story", "only nerds play RPGs". How arrogant is this shit?
You're probably wondering what set off this little bitch-session (and yes I have no problem admitting this is bitching).
Someone I admire; respect, even, came out with one of the most arrogant things I've ever seen them say, in referrence to the only MMO on this planet that has ever been able to hold my attention for a length of time; based on nothing but external opinion, not even a scrap of his own experience.
And I guess seeing that, and having that respect turn out to be misplaced, was just a bit too much.

YES, WE MATCH NOW, KTHX
General | Posted 19 years agoXD
I'm so buzzed about it. For something so simple, it's like a rebirth. I don't care how crazy that sounds. Since this final version of my avatar's physical form was completed, I've struggled with the fur pattern and colours over and over. I've been a chameleon all this time because I could never figure out a colourscheme that I liked for any more than a few weeks at most.
WELL THATS OVER NOW
My (Dev's) colours now match Furball's. And we damn well like it that way, yes we do.
HAPPY.
