Universe Orientation - Who lives when and where?

Because, in contrast to most other fictional worlds, Cataclysms extend over a longer period of time.
It begins 1,000,000 years BC with the creation of humanity and extends till this day and reaches in our very near future.
There are different periods in which the characters live or lived. Here's a brief overview to get an idea of who lived when, where, with whom.

She seems to be lucky about her outfit. He had to admit that she looks very adorable in it. For a huge reptile, he thought.
Strange enough that she worries about how others perceive her, let alone that it is important to her to be attractive. For whom? Why? Redum didn't think something like her can develop a feeling for it at all. Obviously a result of human genes or whatever Red Leaf had mixed up in their labs.
Her self-awareness is definitely above an animalistic level. Without knowing and seeing her, you might think dealing with a human, albeit a rather strange one. And that's where the problems start. Her behavior is difficult to assess. It doesn't fit into any scheme.
If you had to explain her behavior to an outsider, you could compare it to a shipwrecked man with amnesia. Doesn't know much about himself, but knows and understands the environment. Then there is this typical animalistic, pragmatic behavior.
At least it's very predictable. Keep her busy, in line, do not give her the feeling of being locked, and everything will be fine. Besides that, be always on the look-out. Don't get lulled by her soft voice and big eyes. Never be inattentive. Shortly after she woke up in the cage, she immediately inspected the cage and security for weak spots.
Heavy and Nergal saw this too and weren't surprised when she tried
to grab the Doc of all people when he brought her water. She has observed every detail beforehand. She knew that Heavy and Nergal are dangerous, hard targets. Not the Doc and he had the key to the cage. What would be her next step...? It doesn't matter. The situation had shown that she's ready to attack everyone that's between her and her objectives. Redum must find out how far her loyalty for them goes. Completely lost in his thoughts, still staring at Bunny, who tilts her head to one side.
"Alani?"
"Oh, sorry. I was just thinking about something. Common, turn around. Let's see how you look."
She slowly begins to turn on the spot, trying not to knock over things with her tail again.
Redum cannot avoid admiring her elegance, she's healing very quick. Her muscles are as good as restored, if not better, and she's no longer as emaciated as when they first met.
"You looking great in that outfit" Redum said with a smile.
Bunny's face lights up.
"Do you really like it?" She asked, a bit insecure.
"Absolutely! Haven't seen a prettier predator yet." Redum jokes.
Bunny still looking at him with big dreamy eyes.
OK, time for sleep. Tomorrow will be an interesting day. You have a date at with the Doc first, after that you go to the training with us. Bunny looks toward her sleeping corner with a pile of folded blankets, then at Redum.
"I want to sleep in the bed, too." Bunny claims.
"I'm afraid that's not possible." Redum replies amused.
"Why?"
Redum moans.
"Be glad that you are allowed to be here and not locked up somewhere. You have more luxury here than many others. Besides that, I need my sleep too. Where should I go? I'm not going to sleep on the floor, lady."
Bunny looks disappointed at the mattress in her corner.
"But I don't want..."
"Hey, come on. You've been living in the jungle for... I don't know how long, and now you refuse such a nice soft nest? I'm exhausted. Please do me a favor and lie down now."
Without saying anything, Bunny moves to the sleeping corner and lies down on her side without covering herself.
Redum, just shakes his head as he strips down to his shorts and lies down on the bed.
"Sleep well, Bunny."
No answer. Let her pout. While Redum turns off the light and crawls under the covers, he review the day. A rustling sound came from Bunny's corner.
Redum has to think about the loyalty thing again. It won't be easy. You have to offer something to motivates her. Releasing her somewhere into the wild is no option. She's too expensive and who knows what others would do with her. She doesn't get along with other animals either. That's what she said, and he also cannot imagine how she would fit into a raptor pack. That won't work at all. If it does, should they put her in a zoo? What a terrible thought.
Maybe the answer is much simpler. A job and a home. A recon for Charly? High risk, but she would be taken care of, employed, and will serve her intended purpose, field study ca be expanded.
"But who will take care of you?" Redum asks himself. He can't be there all the time either, taking her on every mandate. Does she even want to? How old can she get anyway?
Just as he is about to drift off into sleep, he hears rustling behind him again.
"Alani?"
Sleepily, he registers Bunny's whispering voice.
"Alani?"
"What's up?" He asks tiredly without moving.
"I don't want to lie in the corner anymore."
"...I...I don't care.... Let me sleep..." He answers tiredly.
Suddenly movement behind him.
"She's not going to..." he thinks to himself. He can't finish his thought, because Bunny has already squeezed herself onto the narrow bed.
"What the fuck?! Bunny, are you crazy?!" he asks, confused and frightened.
Bunny doesn't care. She pushes herself further onto the bed and, to his amazement, under the covers.
"Bunny, what the hell are you doing?!" Panic. One wrong move, and she could seriously hurt him with her claws.
"Your bed is much better."
"No! Fuck...! It's too narrow! You could hurt me! Damn, if someone sees us like this..."
She's not a dog sleeping at the foot of the bed, Redum thought.
Bunny says nothing. Instead, she snuggles against his back and puts her arm around his chest.
"Bunny, what are you doing?" Redum ask nervously.
Her shirt is off. She clings tighter. He can't kick her out now. Boxer is still outside the door. Should he call him for help? The situation would not only be embarrassing, but also dangerous for everyone.
She puts her leg over his. Now he definitely can't leave. "I hope she don't gut me out" he thought, still trying to cope with the situation. Her panties seem to be off as well. What a strange situation. He can feel her demanding but soulful embrace, her firm silky skin, the tension of her muscles, and her strange warmth.
"Why are you doing this?"
"I want to be with you." Bunny whispers.

You know I like to give my newer characters a background story and more depth. I thought it might be a good idea to create a map of the solar system in different variations for different timelines and then placing my characters there, if possible.
Well, that isn't that easy as I thought. Not because of design and graphics, but scale and logic. Wtf...😂
If you want to give the viewer a better glimpse of how damn big our own solar system is, you need to scale down the planets a lot, otherwise it looks like a kiddy map and that destroys the immersion.
Next problem are the distances from Sol. Now I need to be creative to explain how the major planets were successfully Terra formed and I have to come up with new names or place them right, because I already use them for the Bunny timeline (which is good. I stick to them).
Bunny's story starts the timeline. What should I do with the other characters? Alexis is at the very end in our own timeline, but the world looks different. Alternate reality at all. I think I can place Jen here too. Lizzy and Nova could somewhere in between the whole timeline? The Unnamed somewhere in the first quarter after Bunny's ark? Could work I guess. The time span from start to end is more than 1.000.000 years 😬. Enough space for strange ideas.
Everything is Sci Fi, so no magic needed and without magic stuff (I don't like that) I don't need a new different universe.

Because I currently didn't have much time for drawing, maybe I could entertain you with a little journal and share some thoughts.

The subject ain't that drastic like the title, but I mentioned a... trend?

Is it just me or is there a increase of overweight characters you see across all boards? Not that hyper fat ones, but unusual oversized body parts or an wobbly stomach while the main body looks normal?
Sometimes I'm a bit annoyed when seeing the thumbnail, thinking "oh that's cute...", enlarge the picture and feeling disappointed. It's a bit like modern big budget Hollywood movies. On first glance you think it's cool but a few minutes in, you already regret it.

You know my art and could imagine it's not my taste. If you like it, more power to you.

But where does that trend came from? I cannot imagine the demand for this is now higher than a few years before.
I have a suspicion. Or two.
Self insertion. I bet there some artists out there that might project there own into the work.
Mustn't be bad, and I'm not totally free of it too, but to much and it gets "funny".
I guess some of you guys might remember famous mistakes from big companies that hired the wrong person and it ends disastrous. Let's call it the starfire accident. Perfect (extreme) example of self inserting. At least it was highly entertaining.
My second thought was about this more or less new thing with "no fat shaming" and "body positivity" stuff, and probably some artist want to break through the wall and standing for a new, more inclusive kind of style, free from the boundaries of idealized Roman and Greek God body attributes.

Or its just a fetish and I didn't mentioned it before.

As always, I don't follow trends (I think so), so you don't have to fear any mass imbalances from my OC's. 😁

Yes, yes. I’ve should have known better and earlier.

My plan was to give it a try to see it for myself and yes it's awful.

I don't know who all of you are there and what's your experiences, but I think this isn’t a suitable platform for artists and I don't know why so many use it. I guess it's because you "could" generate a great range/following for yourself (depends on how you do it), and you can post porn BUT

therefore, you have to post a lot! As long as I know, the algorithm works like this: The more you post, the higher the possibility you get noticed to earn likes, retweets etc… That means you have to spam as many postings as you can. That doesn’t work for me. I think it's important to deliver well-done artwork to interact, not posting bullshit just to be attractive for the algorithm.

What’s really annoying is the type of content I see there besides artwork. Yes, I know twitter wasn’t create for that purpose, but that doesn’t mean you could have a good solution for that.
I really have no interest in the nonsensical small talk there. For example, I don’t want to know what artist-xy have eaten the day, with whom he/she/it is in bed, or all that stupid unrelated drama and gossip. Why I'm there? To act as an extroverted private person or as an artist? Of course, you can do both, but wouldn’t it be better to separate the things from each other?

The other thing that really shocked me, is the behavior of the people there, both artists and regular folks.
I was and still be on a variety of social media platforms, but I've never encountered so many aggressive, radical, and extremist people on social media like on twitter. The lack of respect for others, the sheer amount of agitation, activism, and hounding shocked me. I've seen some bad shit on FB, but twitter is a whole other dimension. Insults, death threats, and blatant lies, you find it all. Very interesting, because I thought social media platforms universally have the interest to provide a place for all people and promote civilized communication with each other. In fact, that's not the case. I mention this because in no other case I noticed this so fast and right in your face.
I really have to hold back myself not answer to all that stupidity. I decide to let the weirdos die in their own circle jerk.

Besides that, obviously, the system isn’t for me. As I said before, end of October 2020 I decided to give it a try, watch for myself and post some artwork. The response isn’t that much. In fact, I can gain much more watchers here in half the time. The people are friendly, you get some feedback, have a gallery and a better overview of what other artists produce. The interaction is much better, and that’s also a point for traditional platforms like this. Social Media is corrupted, biased and turn people against each other.

Anyway, I felt the urge to let you know that. Twitter sucks and I better stay away from it, mind my own business, care about my hobby, and let other people enjoy what I do.

This is spinning around in my mind everytime I draw dragons or seeing pictures from other artists. I love Dragons. They fit in a huge variety of world settings and can be everything from cute, to sexy, to dangerous.
What I don't like is, how they get portrait in nearly every picture (at least it's my subjective experience).
Hexapodal, that means six limbs. Two legs, two arms, two wings. I think that's a bit odd. In the most cases, I think they live in a fantasy or medieval world, based on our earth or something similar. No other lifeform around (besides insects) has six limbs. All land based lifeforms on earth evolved from a ancestor with four limbs. The only possibility to break the four limb rule is to give hexapodal dragons an alien background or the additional limbs came from a forced genetic alteration (same with gargoyles and others). That might be collide with the classic fantasy world setting. If they had evolved in the world naturally, the world must include other lifeforms with six limbs, doesn't matter if winged or not. I didn't see that anywhere. I heard that's the reason why the dragons in GoT have "only" four limbs. It fits the evolutionary pattern of the world. It makes sense and look very nice.

Is something like that important? For most people, I think not. For me, yes. That's the main reason why my dragon characters have no wings and because I haven't worked out a nice looking bodystructure for them till now (four limbs, winged).
However, like I said, hexapodal dragons don't look that great to me.

What's your thoughts on this?

I think it’s a good idea to introduce you a bit into the fictional universe I create for Bunny and her companion. That should help to understand why she looks how we know her where she comes from and how the world around her is set up. I have a lot of ideas and because I didn’t manage to draw anything today, I write this down to release my creativity. The story will also go on. I have 20 new pages, but I want to go a little further before I release the next pages. Ok. Let’s see what we have here.



**The Universe**

Location and Timeline

The story is set millions of years back in the past, not in the future, in our Sol-System. Of course, it looks different at the time. The planets are colonized and more or less terraformed. At least two more planets are existing. One of them is Phaethon, orbiting between Mars and Jupiter. Today, it forms the asteroid belt in the region. Ceres and Vesta are also colonized and not a just a bunch of rocks. I gave them other names. Ceres runs under the name Isu.
If you read the following lines, it may sound familiar to you. I bought a some ideas from the Sumerian genesis tale. I also use Sumerian names or words for character names.

Humanity

Humanity is capable of space traveling (in our own system) and pretty advanced as a consequence of constant scientific progress and help from the creators. The creators aren’t gods or mystical entities. Their real and all humans know their just a product of an advanced race, made to serve them when they need it. In the beginning of human history, dozens of thousand years ago, the creators come to our Sol-System to do business, which means mining and make the place habitable. Because of their lazy sociopathic assholes, they thought its better someone else does it for them, so they create humanity and their different races, suited for different jobs and environments. As the work getting more and more complex, they granted the humans more rights and independence and gave them the needed technology to do their task. At the actual timeline, humanity has nearly reached independence from the creators. What’s left is the H-Tax. The tax, humanity has to pay the creators to leave them alone. The H-Tax consists of resources like minerals, agricultural products and even share certificates and patents. The Aga-Administration, a banking and logistics conglomerate, manage the collection and transfer to the Saturn-Droppoint, were the creators grab the H-Tax. The creators brought this tax into being because it is a convenient way for them to focus on their internal conflicts and wars, to benefit from the conflicts of humanity and not have to worry about the administration of an entire system. As long as the tax get paid, they won’t interfere in human politics or conflicts.
The H-Tax reminds everyone where they come from and where their place is. There is no religion. No god. Freedom costs. If you don't pay, you risk a war and in the worst case, a visit of the creators who will collect the debt.
As a Damocles Sword hovers over humanity, there is seldom rest. Conflicts about resources and technology determine existence in order to be able to provide a calmer, more secure life for yourself and your own people in addition to paying the H-Tax.


**Factions and Corporations (currently active)**


Martian Confederacy

The Martian Confederacy consists of many planets, regions in the Sol-System and space stations, including, of course Mars, Pheathon, Vecta, Terminus-Station and several other dwarf planets and moons.
The Martian Confederacy is the second biggest Faction after the Terran-Union. After more than 3000 years of patronage and exploitation by the Terran Hegemony, several colonies joined forces to become independent. The following wars changed the previous balance of power. The Terran Commonwealth became the Terran Union, the larger colonies became the Martian Confederacy, the remaining worlds formed several independent entities, often under corporate rule.
The Martian Confederacy provides his citizens a higher standard of living and freedom compared to the Terran Union. That has its price. Due to historical events and current Cold War (and proxy wars) pragmatism and realism prevail in the MC. Every man and woman have to find their place and to prove their own worth. Education is a top priority. Military service is compulsory. To gain full citizenship, you need at least to serve at the Martian Confederacy Defense Forces. There're no exceptions. The hard but fair system had shaped the once quasi slave worker and warrior class into a proud citizen who is aware of his achievement and constantly strives to improve his own skills. Everyone in the federation is proud of their efficiency, own achievements and those of their forefathers.


Terran Union

The Terran Union is the biggest faction in the Sol-System and have control over the most Planets and Colonies. To maintain their control over the flow of goods and money in the colonies, the ruler houses had to make some concessions to the colonies that remained after the independence wars. The economy was granted more independence and fewer taxes, which resulted in a certain degree of loss of control, but also gave them economic growth. The great rulers rarely intervene, but still hold the reins in hand if necessary. This is because they control the central bank in the union, the Union Bank, and the military. Even if the level of education and technical progress within the Union is not quite at the level of the Confederation and despite the lost wars, the ruling houses are in no way inferior through intelligent tactics, management, a very high population density and proximity to the independent corporations.


Corporations

Black Rock Military Service and Consulting

As the name suggests, a security company. BRMSC is the MCDF's largest contractor, filling the gaps where the MCDF does not have the capacity or does not want to be associated with certain missions. Their arsenal reaches from MCDF war machinery to own and aftermarket material. Black Rock operators consist mainly of former MCDF members. They serve in a variety of specialized sections. Because BRMSC is led by Confederacy citizens and former MCDF officers, they won’t take mandates from the Union or Union owned corporations.


Alpha Strategic (AS)

Alpha Strategic is a Union counterpart to BRMSC. They recruit their staff from all over the solar system. Traditionally they take on contracts for the union. An addition, they are one of the largest security service providers for the independent corporations and smaller factions.


RedLeaf Bio Engineering

RedLeaf is the leading biotech-group. In addition to research and development in the pharmaceutical sector, he is also active in cybernetics, bio/micro-chip development and genetic research. RedLeaf has become indispensable and a major economic factor for all colonies. The Terran Union is one of the largest shareholders and draws much of the medical care of its people and military on RedLeaf. Due to its huge influence and financial resources, RedLeaf can afford a variety of side projects, including the huge research facility on Isu. The site has been used for genetic and biotech research for several decades. This is where the first and successful research into the reproduction of prehistoric life took place. Red Leaf continues to benefit from the breeding and sale of long-extinct animal breeds for entertainment and research purposes. Since Isu is relatively remote and state control is far away, RedLeaf takes the opportunity to devote itself to unconventional and illegal research. One result of this is project FTHR-0001.
Since the breakdown event, which can be traced back to several accidents and technical failures, the facility on Isu has been abandoned as far as is known. RedLeaf tried to sweep the incident under the carpet for fear of losing securities. Since the Marsian Confederacy and the Terran Union still lay claim to the planet but neither of them dares an open war, more or less independent forces are now trying to bring the remaining tech under their control.

So much for the world structure. I know it's not the most extraordinarya and a few elements are already known, but I'm just an amateur and a little background gives the characters soul and of course it's fun too. I'm also finding more and more opportunities to somehow integrate earlier characters. But that's something for the future.

Is it just me or do you feel the same?
One thing goes through my head the first time I draw Alex (shark girl). When drawing, I first select the pose, creating a rough body image and shape, and then work on the details. When I worked on the head, I stuck in the process. The head always looks like a raptor/dinosaur.
Yes, I love this shape, but it's not right. It's not a shark. I always look for references, both real pictures and drawings by other artists. At least for the artists I have encountered, it seems that they have a common problem or it's the desired shape. I don't know how you feel about it.

Do you think that the most anthropomorphic sharks look like raptors or that the raptors look like sharks? Which style did you prefer?

Before I waste viewing time or annoy you with formats you can't read, I want to know:
What is your favorite reading device?

I don't sit around in front of my desktop PC all day. Especially when I read non print fiction/books, I choose the comfort of my couch or bed. In this case I choose my smartphone (best option if you don't have an iPad or something similar). My goal is to offer you a comfortable reading experience. This also includes a suitable format and I will stick with PDF as I can incorporate illustrations. It would be nice to know which device you prefer to use for browsing and reading fiction/stories.

ADDENDUM: Looks like most of you are using PC/Laptops, followed closely by ebook readers. As long as there's no massive protest, I stick with the current format.

You may already notice I started to write a story around the whole raptor girlfriend thing (Bunny and Redum). It seems like there's a demand for it and I thank you all for your feedback. I will try to further develop the story and world for it. The process is slow and I try to compensate my lesser developed writing skills with a good presentation. The PDF format is a good choice that allows me to make it reader friendly and I can put in a few images and or descriptions that explains the universe at all, places, object, characters etc... I will update the story when I have a few more pages. When this happens, I will delete the older file and upload a new one, so you don't have to search around.
