Ratatouille...
General | Posted 18 years agoFirst viewing is always weird, there's so much to take in. I just let it wash over me. Every element is done to perfection, but what always hits me is the expressions, the poses - the tiny movements of the eyes as thoughts go through the characters minds. The rhythms and counter rhythms they bring out in dialogue, the sophistication and excellence of every element.
Its what you get when you have several hundred talented artists spending weeks on the smallest of details. Mentally, I file them alongside doctors, nurses and other amazing people who do jobs I simply couldn't handle. I so don't want to be one of those artists, I couldn't spend days over a single second, I'd go insane.
But I count myself lucky that I know just enough animation to appreciate the insane mastery their demonstrating. And I count myself lucky that I appear to be living in feature animations golden age. =O)

A happy hoppyday...
General | Posted 18 years agoYeay, its my birfday! =O)
Well, at least in my part of the world it its. Either way, here's hoping my next journey around the sun brings even more opportunity to make cool stuff.
My new computer was delivered and im celebrating by running physics simulations in max (which is a grand way of saying im building towers out of building blocks and knocking them down again =OP)
Edit: Yes, my birthday is on the 8th, I posted this after midnight GMT, which was still the 7th over in furafinity land...

Computer down...
General | Posted 18 years agoWell, seems like my laptop finally crapped out altogether. Ive tried everything - begging, sarcasm, insults, bribery, hiding, shaking my fist at it and repeatedly pressing the power button in the hope it changed its mind. =OP
So, Ive bit the bullet and ordered a desktop while I try to get the thing fixed. In the long term it means I should have the computing power to do cool stuff like fur. But short term it means there aint going to be much animation happening for a bit. Well, unless im sneaky and do stuff at work, but its been pretty busy lately.
Thanks to everyone whose been messaging me, its been great to chat about animation, transformation and other cool things. Oh, and thanks to Karpour for the cute doodle, gave me something to grin about. =O)

Project Progress...
General | Posted 18 years agoI've spent the past week or two turning a friends partial into a full fursuit for eurofurance. I've also been experimenting with puppeteering fursuit heads, which often gets called animatronics, but in my case is a bit more mechanical as there's no computer control. Who knows, it would be nice to have a fursuit for Further confusion in January.
Its all meant the animation has taken a bit of a back seat, but I have a couple of ideas cooking up. Of course, playing games like Bioshock and Space Girraffe for hours doesn't help. =OP

Undercover weasel
General | Posted 18 years agoI've known an awful lot of artists attempt to erase themselves from the furry interwebs the moment they get a cool job. They don't want anything that could remotely jepodise their career to show up on a google search. I used to feel the same way and its only recently I've started doing animation in the furry community again.
But, sorry to say, I still don't feel comfortable listing the games I've worked on. There's so little development information on these games as it is that if I list them there's a good chance it would wind up right next to my cv on google.
The answer isn't that interesting anyway. I haven't worked on Spyro, Conker, Starfox or any other furry favourite. I've done sports sims, a few cartoon licences and an awful lot of dull humans doing dull things. Its a cool job, sure, but when it comes to making furry stuff, I come here. =O)

Meme Gubbins...
General | Posted 18 years agoIt seems that one AzurusNova has tagged me with a meme. I don't usually go in for memes, but I figure I should loosen up a little. I was tagged fair and square. It went thusly:
The 1st player of this starts with the topic weird habits/facts/dislikes about yourself; and people who get tagged must write in their journals about their 6 weird habits/facts/dislikes as well as state this rule clearly. "In the end, you need to choose the next 6 people to be tagged and list to their names. Don't forget to leave a comment that says you're tagged"
And in responce...
1. When shopping, I always check bunches of bananas for tropical spider nests before I buy them.
2. I've worked on 9 video games that made it to the shops.
3. What I was a little kid and the teacher asked me what I wanted to be when i grew up, I replied "An imaginary friend".
4. I make friends easily, but partners prove elusive.
5. I was once paid to watch about 40 hours of Pokemon, Digimon, Bayblade and Yi-gi-Oh cartoons and a write a report so the execs knew what 'da kidz' were into.
6. I'm too polite to tag any other people for this meme. =OP

Animation, and the way of the weasel...
General | Posted 18 years agoAt my job, I'll spend my whole day over a couple of seconds of animation - that's actually pretty fast. A second a day is the old rule of thumb, and in the FX industry, some people spend days, weeks even, over a single second. However, when I come to post stuff to Furaffinity, the animating (excluding modeling, rigging etc) takes anything from 1 second an hour to a second every 10 minutes. I'm doing everything I can to cut corners and crank it out, and there's a number of reasons for this:
1) It's my free time and I don't want to spend my entire evening finessing a toe flick.
2) I think people would rather see a few seconds of entertaining furry animation, than one second of flawless motion.
3) I have stories I want to tell in animation. And if I'm to have any chance of actually making them in my lifetime, I have to get good at doing things quickly.
I'm learning tricks and short cuts with every animation I post, and you guys are really helping to motivate me. What I'm doing is never going to stand close scrutiny, but I'm looking for peoples gut reaction - if they found it fun or entertaining. Cause, in the end of the day, I'm here to have fun. =O)

Summer fluff...
General | Posted 18 years agoWell its been a busy few weeks. The game im working on has passed Beta and in my free time I finally got myself my own sewing machine, which im using to make a bodysuit for a friend.
Without much to post up here I had a ferret through my files and put up some old costume projects in scraps.
3d wise I hope to get Camroo moving about soon, but since I've got a LARP to attend next weekend, it probably wont be for another week or so.
Oh, I've also been playing around with Mudbox, which is lovely, even if it produces some insanely high poly meshes. Its kind of like Zbrush, but simple enough for my weasely brain to comprehend. =O)

Wigging on the rigging....
General | Posted 18 years agoSpent quite a lot of time this weekend modelling and rigging characters, but I haven't really got anything to post up yet.
Been modelling Camroos morph targets for the facial animation and I've started on my weaselish alter ego. I've also spent quite some time making silly voices into a microphone. Playing about with them on the computer to try to figure out what the weasel might sound like.
All in all quite a productive weekend, but, ya know, not much to show off just yet...

Plug in fur...
General | Posted 18 years agoIve been dabbling in 3d studios fur plugin lately, but I must admit the rendertimes are a killer.
My current render has been going 10 hours and last time I looked had three more to go. I can't tell for sure as since I last minimised its window it refuses to come back. I only know its still working because the output file keeps getting bigger. =OP
I wouldnt mind, but I'm only rendering at 320x240...

Wheres my manners?
General | Posted 18 years agoWell, I've been posting to FA for about a week and I can't thank people enough for all the kind words. Sorry I haven't thanked people for the faves and stuff, im new to all this.
Needless to say you've all tickled my ego something rotten. Not that I want you to stop. *Big weasely grin* =OD.
Your great people, and an awful lot of you are great artists too. I promise to get more active in the community as a whole.
In other news, my laptop has to go back under warranty this week, so im going to be offline for a few days. Worse still ill have to re-install everything so it'll be a week or so before I can get back to my animation. Ill see how things go.

Heya!
General | Posted 18 years agoI dunno if people read the journals on here, but i figured Id give it a try.
Ive been posting to FA for about a week and its been a great kick up the tail. Thanks for all the comments and, faves and stuff.
One thing im wondering is what people are interested in. I also make masks, fursuits and have occasionally been known to doodle. Might be cool to put that stuff up too, but I don't want to flood all the people who signed up for the animation with pictures of sculpts.
