I'm watching like 7 pages of people (probably over 100) and only 10% of those accounts actually update.

The rest are accounts that are never updated.

I'm not talking about all of you who don't art, or can't art, or barely art, but there's a lot of people I know who are good artist and regular artists, and they've probably all moved on to Weasyl or Tumblr or something. Only way to explain why they don't exist here anymore.

For some reason I was blocked by an artist.

I only found out because I tried to fave one of their arts. Apparently, if someone blocks you on here, not only can you NOT comment their art, shout on their page, or send them a note (obv), but you can't fave their shit.

Okay then. Well, it can’t be on accident because you have to manually type the person’s name into a text box to block them.

I do not know why. I do not think there is something I said that was deliberately mean or offensive to her. I don't ever remember trying to be mean to her.

The last comment I see that I made on her account was a sarcastic comment. She was doing pinups of people's characters but in a "Bizzaro" way that was not serious, but silly and goofy. I said that one of them was "hawt" which was also supposed to be sarcastic and not serious. "hawt" is internet slang for when something isn't really hot.

Perhaps she didn’t know that and thought I was being serious and being a pervert with her artwork.
Perhaps she did know I wasn't being serious and was still offended for no reason.

To block someone for something as silly as that seems rather stupid. Perhaps though, I had said lots of different things to bother her and this was just the last straw. In any case, intent is important. She should realize I wasn't trying to be mean and not let such things bother her, and if they do, open her mouth and tell me. Let me know.

People seem to be upset for the silliest reasons. Instead of looking at the way the person is acting and determining whether the offense was deliberate or just an accident they get upset and take personal offense. Many times the person is just talking and not trying to hurt or insult the listener and either the listener needs to let the person know they are bothered, or just deal with it.

It's not worth spending your entire life getting butthurt over the smallest things, and banishing people from your life for tiny transgressions. The world is a cruel mean place and you'll never survive if you let everything bug you. I can't imagine how you have friends. Perhaps they're all people who think exactly like you, act exactly like you, and you never get to experience other ways of life, or grow as a person by having people around you who are different.

Having people around you who are different than you, who think differently than you, helps you become a better person and opens your mind. And, if they say something that's upsetting, look exactly at their intent. Were they trying to be mean to you or others? Were they trying to be a dick? Were they being racist or bigoted, or just joking a little? If it's just a small thing, be an adult, grow a thick skin, because you're gonna need that thick skin to deal with the assholes of the world, and just ignore it. It's not worth getting upset over. If the person is consistently and deliberately an asshole, in other words they're trying to be mean, then perhaps they aren't worth dealing with.

In any case I wish the artist well and have a great existence, and I hope you become a better and more thick skinned person in the future, because you'll deal with people better that way.

Yea, I see a lot of people I know went to MFF (or MWFF).

Most of you I've met many times before, but it does suck that some people I've never met before were there, we could have hung out and shit.

Oh well, kinda sucks when you were in a car accident and having to deal with that, also kinda sucks when you have a job that rarely gives out holiday time off unless it's an emergency. Yiffing in murrsuits is not an emergency, no matter how much some of the derps in the fandumb claim it is. Yea, that's part of being an adult, working a shit job and never having fun. If you guys haven't heard yet, FCN has been cancelled.

And I'm seriously disappoint.

I understand the fact that the people who run FCN doesn't want to do it forever. Running a con is an insane venture, and I wouldn't be surprised if they become burned out. But what I can't figure out is why they scheduled this con for ONLY 5 years. Couldn't they have passed the torch?

I've been to an anime con that has run for 18 years! Youmacon's been running since 2004-2005 or so. Dragon Con and Comic Con's been around since... forever? I've never heard of a con with an expiration date. Ever.

There are three reasons I'm kinda pissed about this situation:
- This was my first furry con so there's a bit of a nostalgia with this.

- This con was a really well put together con. It was actually VERY fun.

- And the biggest reason: This con was only 20 minutes away. Which means that I didn't have to stay at the hotel and spend more money. An even bigger problem is that with my current job, I can only get one day off of work, if I'm LUCKY. So the con has to be within driving distance. Of course, I could just quit my job for a furry con, that's a good idea, right? Right?

Sigh.

Okay, I said ages ago I'd clean out my watch list and I did so, and it took less than 10 minutes so I'm not exactly sure WHY I put it off (because I'm the master(bater) of procrastination).

I don't think that people get notifications if I un-watch them, only if I watch them.

But if you somehow did get a notification then yes, I did un-watch you. Don't take it personal.

Some of the people I un-watched were people who had emptied their accounts, or abandoned their accounts for new accounts or places. There was also accounts of people I had no idea who they were and I had no idea why I watched them in the first place. There was also a couple accounts where all they posted was penises. Lots and lots of penis. Nothing but penis. Fat penis, muscular penis, inflated penis. In the words of Grumpy Cat: "No."

I'm not into penis but especially not into art of muscular furs, overly fat furs, inflated furs, or hyper-endowed furs.

I figure that in the inevitable event that this website goes down like the Edmund Fitzgerald with all hands and Dragoneer at the wheel, might as well have a backup.

So, this year's FCN may have been just as good as the last one, despite it's faults and less to do. And this year, unlike last year, I didn't get sick or a sore throat.

First off, the bank fixed my problem and removed the fraudulent transactions that Friday morning, as well as gave me my new card. So, now I had plenty of cash to buy ALL the porn!

The Bad:
- I missed one panel I wanted to go to because I got distracted by Cards Against Humanity. This would be a reoccurring theme at the con. There was a couple other panels I missed due to staying up late and sleeping in. Who gets up early for a 9am panel anyway?

- I only got to be involved in two rounds of Werewolf this con, both of which my side lost. There needed to be more Werewolf dammit. It didn't help that the Friday game went from 11:30p to FOUR AM!!! I had to bail out early and since I was the Medium all I could do is tell the people they had two werewolves to go. I actually had a feeling I knew where they were too. In the second game I suspected two people who happened to be the freemasons, but by the time I realized that it was too late.

- There seemed to be less to do this con. Plus, it really emptied out after closing ceremonies, but I think that was people going to eat and pack before the dance. Some people came back. But yea, less panels this year, less to do it seemed.

The Good:
- I didn't get sick.
- The Cards Against Humanity charity panel was awesome. There is no video on youtube but I know someone filmed it!!!
- Also, I played more CAH throughout the con.

-I was involved in an Improv that Iggy ran where I was on a board, in the far future, that approved or denied time travel to applicants. My character was Steve Stevenson, secretly from a planet where everyone was Steve. So I approved any applicant named Steve.

At one point in the game, a guy named Steve went back and visited King Tut, who became King Steve. Later, a guy named Steve wanted to witness the birth of Jesus, I approved and Jesus became Stevius Christ. After that the religious nut on our panel started using Steve/Stevius in his act.

During the improv I denied a Japanese guy and was called racist towards Japanese, which I decided to run with. When a Steve who was Japanese came up, I just threw up my hands, said "fuck this" and almost walked away.

At the end, the Steves came and took over the planet, for all Stevekind.

I am not sure I'm going to FCN or not this weekend.

I received a call from the bank saying they had several unusual transactions that they needed my approval for. I checked the bank account online only to find my account was in the red and someone had paid for $1000 worth of merchandise from an online merchant.

I immediately cancelled that card, and have put an alert on the account. The transactions have not cleared so I can't dispute them until then. I also called the online store and found out that account was suspended and info passed to the police because that person had used several cards and bought a whole lot of stuff. On my card it was a large TV, blu-ray, and surround sound system. So they supposedly will send my money back to me.

I also put alerts on all my credit accounts, but nothing seems to be amiss there.

If I get my money back or I get my paycheck by Thurs I may stop by even for just a day, but if not, then I won't go. We'll see.

A while back I had a female squirrel character I hadn't really fleshed out besides giving her the name Shela Leigh (She Lee).

I decided to revamp her and make her into an entirely new character, a mouse with two personalities. Normally she would be a shy, geeky girl who dresses conservatively, but she would have another personality that would be goth/punk that would be more aggressive and outgoing. I also considered having her have brown fur for the nerdy side and white fur for the goth side, to further differentiate the personalities.

However I wanted to give her fangs rather than the flat teeth of a mouse so I decided to switch her to the mustelidae (weasel) family, and have her be a mink.

But while doing research today I discovered that mink are not actually white, but rather brown colored. The only mustelid that is white is the Ermine, and the white is it's winter coat. During the summer the Ermine has a medium brown and cream coat.

This actually works out for the best. Her nerd side will have the summer coat, and her goth side will have the winter coat. So I've decided to go with making her an ermine.

Now, all I have to do is figure out a name for both personalities, and I suck at names. :x

I've been gone for a lot of the holidays and I noticed that, in my absence, my new submissions page grew by several pages. I still haven't gotten through it all.

So I'm going to start removing certain people from my watch list. These will be people who I barely know, or who's art might have a subject I don't care for (for instance, gay porn). If you get cut don't feel bad, it doesn't mean I hate you, it just means I need to clean out my watch list and you got cut. Don't take it personally.

Last week I went to a furry "blind bag" gift exchange. I threw in a bag full of gummy candies.

Only at a fur party would we get gifts like:

In any case the condoms were a part of a con survival kit with soap, shampoo, and deodorant, something many people at cons forget.

I got a Jake & Finn Adventure Time wallet that oddly no one else wanted even though I wanted to give it away, as I'm not a big fan of Adventure Time. It's a very nice wallet too. Cost about $17 at Hot Topic. $15 of that licensing cost.

I'd maybe be willing to give it away but would rather exchange it, maybe for awesome arts.

If anyone on my F-list gets a message from someone, possibly named "dreams-in-reality", saying he used to know you under another name and then providing a link to a "cartoon" he's finished, it's a spammer. A pretty pathetic try at spamming as well.

I shouldn't be surprised of people being scared of something they don't understand because humans have been doing it since the beginning of existence.

I thought I'd throw up some additional thoughts about the drama storm I seemed to have caused in one corner of the furry community this week. I read through everything and thought about it for a while.

I will admit that I started it by overreacting and saying some mean things. But the whole thing could have been handled a lot better by all parties involved, myself and other people included. No one was blameless in this drama shitstorm, except the artist herself.

So like I mentioned I commissioned art from an artist, and when I received it I was disappointed in the way the wings looked as I thought they looked like they were pointing to the right, like one was broken. I asked for her to change it... not entirely unreasonable as many commissioners ask for fixes. She misunderstood and asked for money to fix it. I misunderstood how much she wanted.

I posted an angry post on a furry forum asking people if I should have to pay in order for her to fix it. I said some mean things about the artist, and although I didn't want to name drop her, I did a piss-poor job of trying not to name drop her. Eventually the artist saw the thread because someone informed of her of it. I never expected her to see it, and for those who say it's a public forum and she probably would have seen it, I'll counter by saying that someone could be talking shit about me right now (and probably is), but unless someone points it out to me, I'd never know it existed.
Does that mean I should have badmouthed her behind her back or to her face? No. I admit I could have handled that way better and been a lot nicer. There were things I should have never said.

But me and the artist eventually worked things out. I apologized and paid her, not only what she was asking, but extra for all the trouble I put her through. I apologized to her privately because I didn't need the vultures circling around my head to pat themselves on the back and feel satisfied.

And unfortunately the whole thing escalated to epic levels involving other people, because people love drama and pretending they're somehow better than everyone else. I'm now banned (temp or permanently, I have no idea), another guy is suspended (due to his own actions), and several villages were blown to pieces and casualties are heavy. Just another day in the fucking furry fandom. :V I may also have trouble commissioning some artists in the future.


Just going to run by some final thoughts here about this whole thing:
- Some people complained until the very end that I hadn't paid her yet. The artist never expected me to pay her until I was satisfied, and that's how I figured it was supposed to work. I did intend to pay her unless the whole thing went so downhill that it was all a lost cause, and it hadn't reached that point. For those who thought I should pay her when I saw the watermarked final image, and then ask for a change after I paid, I cannot understand your logic. If I were to have my car fixed and they screwed up, would I pay and then ask them to fix their mistake? If I got my hair cut and the barber took off a chunk of hair, would I pay and then ask him to fix it? No. And the artist never asked or expected payment until the art was fixed.

- I re-read the thread and noticed an odd trend. Even though I did say some bad things about the artist on the very first post, no one called me out on it. In fact, the first few pages just has people debating on whether the wings were messed up or not, and if the artist should charge me extra or not. There was some people saying I was being cheap and should have paid her already, but no one brought up what I said until several pages later. I find this odd. Of course, what I said wasn't right at all, but I just find it odd that people didn't bring it up until days later. Had I known that was a game changer I would have fixed my blunder a lot sooner. But because people didn't bring it up, I never bothered to even consider it, or how it might affect the artist.

- Also, another thought. Something I noticed.
It seemed that the vast majority of people defending me were men. Almost everyone attacking me was a woman. I can pretty much figure out why, but I thought that was pretty bizzare at first.


In any case, the drama seems to be over, and I hope we can just get the hell over it and leave it in the past.
Although for some odd reason, the artist hasn't sent me the final non-watermarked image, and I hope she gets back to me soon.
Nevermind, I messaged her and she said she thought she sent it to me but didn't. Everything's settled.

If I get banned or suspended from FA I thought I'd put this up just so people will know. Names will be withheld even though I want to scream them from the rooftops, but I won't.

Last week I commissioned an artist who was doing small digital cell-shaded commissions for $10 over on LJ. The piece was to be paid for after the artist was done. She would send a low-res copy with a watermark for my approval, and then when I paid I'd get the high-res version.

I received the piece of art, and was disappointed that the wings looked very crooked, like one of them was bent backwards and both of them were pointing the same direction. So I told the artist I'd get with her shortly, pondered a bit on what to do, asked for advice from other furries, and then asked the artist if she could fix them. And she said she could but I'd have to pay extra (I heard $5 extra but later found out I was wrong, it was less).
Now mind you the commission was cheap already but I don't think I should have to pay more to fix a mess-up the artist did. I didn't think that was fair, even with such a cheap commission.

So I posted a thread asking for advice on what to do. I said some negative things about the artist but tried to avoid using the artist's name, keeping her anonymous. I apparently didn't do a very good job as the artist found the thread (I think someone told her about it).

Me and the artist then talked about it, and she figured out why I was upset with the art and agreed to fix it. I was going to offer to pay the extra amount, but she said I didn't have to. So me and the artist are working it out and I'm about to pay her and get my commission. I may even provide a little tip.


However...
Even though some people in the thread agree with me that the wings were crooked, some people disagreed with me.
They think I'm being cheap.
They think I'm horrible for not having paid yet (even though I'm supposed to pay AFTER the art is finished, that's the agreement with the artist).
They think I'm bad for talking about the artist behind her back and being negative about her, even though I tried to keep the artist anonymous, and I was in a bad mood at the time. I never wanted to go "Hey this artist right here is a horrible person never buy art from her", more like "there's an artist that will not be named and I'm having trouble with her..."
They think I'm worse than Satan and Hitler combined.

Two or three of them has threatened to post my name on Artists Beware on LJ telling people to avoid taking commissions from me.
One of them has already posted a journal on FA telling artist to avoid me. I tried to file a ticket against that journal, but the FA mods don't want to do anything about it.
I've been temp-banned from FA's forums for telling the above woman off in the forums.

So even though me and the artist have worked it out, and I'm about to pay her, other people want to continue the drama and make me look like a horrible person, and then when I try to retaliate, I get banned, because one of the mods is on their side. Typical furry bullshit, of course.

I'm not going to say who the people are. I WANT to say who they are, but that would only make things worse, and probably violate FA's rules. So I'll be the better man, just this once, and not do it.

But if I get banned, you'll know why.
