Making this comic is a very special experience to me. Cathode, or "K", has been my fursona for more than 10 years now. "Modified" has been a perfect opportunity for me to refresh my connection to my aging fursona, giving him a more cohesive character, behaviors and motivations. I always wanted to give him a proper origin story, a story I can deeply resonate to. And now here I am.
I'm not an artist, and I'm not a writer. Nonetheless, I will try my best to make this comic enjoyable and unique to all of you. It will also be a love letter to all the nostalgic video games I enjoyed in the better days of my life. SO, expect plenty of references! Thank you again for all your support!

After 3.5 years of hiatus, I have resumed working on Cathode's Origin story "Modified" again. Back then I got tired and lazy and didn't really like the old script I made, and paused production. This time I have an updated rough script written out, and over the course of 3.5 years I have gained more information on how to make the comic better, and now I have become determined on continuing Cathode's origin story. After all this time I have read more comic books, played more video games, even designed my own 3d models. Along with the emergence of better art tools, I have gained more confidence with my still very limited art and storytelling skills.

With that said, I proudly present:

Please be patient, next page involves human faces, clothes, action scenes and a whole bunch of things I have never drawn before. Now remember, I am rendering the whole thing on a 2 decades old autistic brain with integrated graphics, so it's gonna take a while, and it may not look good. I appreciate all feedback and suggestions, I hope I can use the comic as an opportunity to improve my art and story telling skills.

Last evening I was about to eat a slice of freshly baked sweet potato in my yard. A baby spider less than 1mm wide came from nowhere landed on the scorching oily slice to sweet potato. I tried to save it but it stopped moving in less than a second. I ate it with the sweet potato.
The baby spider was just hatched and had a silk parachute attached. It could have drifted in the wind across lands and seas, settled in a nice spot to grow big and live a fulfilling spider life, but instead out of all odds, it landed and died on a scorching slice of sweet potato.
It's these little things that makes me full stop and deeply think how random, chaotic and incomprehensible this world is. You'll never know where your journey will end.

Just Watched the wandering earth prequel. I love the SOMA vibe it gives me. Love the way it presents digital immortality and human-derived AI and the bone chilling existential crisis it brings.

It's truely terrifying what is considered reality and what is considered death. Imagining the total disorientation and shock realizing you are a digital construct, a copy, and decades have past and the original you have been long dead yet all you experienced last was the Consciousness-copying procedure. You will have no recollection of what happened between the creation of you and the death of your biological original if you were an outdated, never ran copy saved on a dusty hard drive who has just been loaded and ran the first time.

Another thing is the realization of you are nothing but a function containing a few lines of code. When the function is called by something greater/ something whole, you become alive. You could live for 3 minutes, or live 90 years. And after your death, you return some value To the greater whole for unknown purposes, and the function containing your consciousness may be called again later, so you get to live, feel and think again without any memory of your prior function call. It is truely terrifying.

Cathode is crying because he wants to just put down his guns, get rid of all his cybernetic implants, remove his life extension and spend the rest of his 10 years as a normal, non sapient animal chasing cherry blossoms in the wind.

The depiction of Los Angeles is spot on, with the burning trash piles on the streets and derelect crumbling buildings under massive boring glass cubes, and filled with insainly militerized yet incompetent cops.
