Oren’s Forge Hard Cover 10% Off!
Posted 3 years agoFor Black Friday/Cyber Monday, FurPlanet is offering 10% off with coupon code “turkey2022”!
Oren's Forge: Predator and Prey is hard cover, 220 pages, and includes the full first volume of Oren’s Forge (which is stand alone so it makes a good gift…!)
It also has 20 pages of concept art and WIPs (neat)!
These copies are what remains from the KickStarter last year and they turned out awesome— here’s a link to some photos!
And, Just a heads up, there is a finite supply of books as I don’t plan on any reprints… so once they’re gone, they’re likely gone for good!
FurPlanet is distributing the bulk of the remaining books, so this is a great time to grab one online, but they’ll also be available from FurPlanet at MidWestFurfest next week and FurtherConfusion in January!
Thanks for lookin’!

Oren's Forge Returns + Books Available
Posted 3 years agoTWO THINGS, friends!
BOOKS!
I have another batch of Oren’s Forge Volume One books for sale through my ko-fi shop! These are SIGNED and are the last batch I’m going to put up that will include a vinyl sticker left over from the KickStarter.
Both supply and availability are limited! My shop is either going to close when I run out of books or the first week of May since I’m going to be traveling a bit. After that, I probably won’t have another batch available direct from me until the end of summer.
If you like my comic, this is by far the most direct way to support it!
Ko-Fi Shop Link!
(More book photos in the ko-fi link, btw!)
OVERSEAS/OUTSIDE THE US - I can’t do international shipping right now— however! FurPlanet has Oren’s Forge in stock and they do world-wide shipping. I really recommend you check their site since you can pick up Oren’s Forge, plus other rad stuff and make the shipping cost go a little further. Same goes for US/domestic shipments, too— if you find your personal library is lacking in animal adventure, take a look at their catalog and buy books in bulk! (The only people who will regret you own so many books are the friends you ask to help you move.)
Check out Oren's Forge Vol One on FurPlanet
OREN’S FORGE IS BACK APRIL 25th!
I am going to resume posting Oren’s Forge here starting April 25th! For the first couple weeks, I’m going to post twice a week, then return to the normal Mondays. Volume Two picks up where the first ended, you can re-read online or… of course… pick up a signed copy.
However, you don’t have to wait to start reading Volume Two— for only $5 you can join my Patreon and read 20 pages right now! Plus, you’re helping to support the comic and make sure I can keep working and posting without interruption.
Oh, and I’d be remiss not to mention— yeah, this next volume has a lot of wolves, but if that’s still not enough wolves for you, check out Oren and the One-Eyed Wolf! This is a 13-page stand alone comic that takes place nebulously between the first volume and early in the second. It’ll give you more info about the wolf pack going in, plus some insight into Oren’s foundation of the Hollow.
The PDF for Oren and the One-Eyed Wolf is up on Ko-Fi!

THE FUTURE OF OREN’S FORGE!
Posted 4 years agoFirst things first — On the public side, Oren’s Forge (Volume One) will draw to a close in a couple months around New Years and will resume in April/May 2022 or so. I have no intention to hide the main story behind a paywall forever. If you like my comic, I want you to be able to read it.
However, if you’re a Patreon— the entire 199 page story is available RIGHT NOW for only $5, plus bonus content like work-in-progress art and panel breakdowns. It’s a lot of content for not much AND it helps ensure the comic can continue uninterrupted.
The main storyline is set to continue November 15th 2021 on Patreon with weekly updates!
Brand new pages which pick up right where Volume One leaves off!
Patreon is primarily how I’m able to continue working on the comic and providing weekly updates since 2019. I honestly couldn’t do it without the generosity of readers, so a huge thank you to current Patreons, and thank you for considering joining up!
Can’t join but you still want to support Oren’s Forge? Consider telling a friend! I have a Free/Pay-What-You-Want PDF of the first part of Oren’s Forge up on Gumroad. It’s a great way to introduce people to the comic.
Also on Patreon and Gumroad is…
Oren and the One-Eyed Wolf
This is a short (13 page) full color comic set sometime between the end of the first volume of Oren’s Forge and the next! It follows a dual narrative about Oren’s encounter with the One-Eyed Wolf mentioned on page 119 of Oren’s Forge. Learn more about Oren’s motivation that lead him south to the Conclave, as well as the inner-workings of the Grassland wolf pack!
You can read it on Patreon or get a PDF on Gumroad!
Kickstarter/THE BOOKS!
If you were part of the KickStarter, you’ve probably seen The Books! They look great but are stuck in shipping hell at the moment (what isn’t.) Check out this KS update to see ‘em!
I expect they’ll make their way off the cargo ship soon(ish). Once the books make their way out to backers, any extra copies will be available for sale. I’ll have some surplus on hand to sell direct, but FurPlanet is receiving a big chunk of books, too! They’ll be handling distribution through their website and for most major conventions.
The FRENCH EDITION!
I have no news except to say I’m in talks with the French publisher from the first volume! More on that later but just wanted to let folks know things are progressing.
That’s it! Hope you’ve enjoyed Oren’s Forge so far!

Oren and the One-Eyed Wolf
Posted 4 years agoAvailable on Patreon ($5) and as a PDF on Gumroad ($9) is Oren and the One-Eyed Wolf!
It’s a short (13 page) full color comic set sometime between the end of the first volume of Oren’s Forge and the next! It follows a dual narrative about Oren’s encounter with the One-Eyed Wolf mentioned on page 119 of Oren’s Forge.
Learn more about Oren’s motivation that lead him south to the Conclave, as well as the inner-workings of the Grassland wolf pack! See some teaser panels here!
Just to be clear - I have no intention to hide the main story behind a paywall. If you like my comic, I want you to be able to read it. Oren and the One-Eyed Wolf expands upon the characters and the world and gives you a little sneak-peak into some characters coming in the next volume, but skipping it won’t negatively effect your understanding of the main story.
Q: Can I read Oren and the One-Eyed Wolf without reading the last 8 pages of Oren’s Forge, Volume One?
A: Yes, you can! There are no spoilers to the finale of Volume One.
However, Patreons can read Oren and the One-Eyed Wolf, along with the full 199 pages of the first volume, for only $5! Plus, you get access to bonus content like work-in-progress art and panel breakdowns.
Best part of being a Patreon? The main storyline is set to continue on November 15th 2021 with weekly updates of brand new pages! That’s… NEXT WEEK!

Oren’s Forge PART ONE Free PDF
Posted 5 years agoWhile we’re all socially distancing, perhaps you or a friend are looking for something to read!
I put together the first 64 pages of Oren’s Forge in one PDF on Gumroad, listed as free/pay-what-you-feel!
(It’s a science-fact that pine martens are good at relieving boredom.)
Share the link with friends or family! I bet grandma will love when the wolves eat that bison dude.

(If you do decided to kick a buck or two my way, I super appreciate it!)

Oren's Forge in 2020
Posted 5 years agoFirst off, sorry for the hiatus over the holidays until now! It wasn’t really planned, I’ve just been really busy the last month, never at my computer at a good time to post pages. Anyhow, I’ll be back to posting on Mondays (and sometimes Wednesdays) as planned.
That said, my Patreon has been updating steadily and is 20+ pages ahead. If you’d like to read a whole lot of Oren’s Forge at once, now is a fine time! For just $5 you can catch up, see some exclusive WIP stuff, get PDFs, etc. Plus, you’ll help support the comic and keep it going. If you still want to help but can’t hop onto Patreon, please just consider telling a friend or two about the comic! I appriciate that a lot!
Thanks for reading!

Oren's Forge Coming Back in May
Posted 6 years agoOren’s Forge will be coming back in May!
Don't know what that is? It's the comic I've been working on over the last few years about a pine marten, fire, wolves, a mystery, not dying by being eaten, etc. You can read it right here if you want!
If you’ve enjoyed the comic and you’d like to see it posted through to it’s end without interruption, please consider checking out my brand new Patreon!
I’ve made solid inroads into Oren’s Forge over the last few months. I have a bunch of pages ready to go and I feel like I’ve found a comfortable pace to keep rolling. However, the reason it’s been so stop-and-go is the obvious— free web comics don’t pay particularly well, so my time repeatedly needed to be spent places that could help pay the bills. Long stretches went by when I couldn’t keep my feet on solid ground long enough to comfortably dive back into comics.
But— I love making comics. There’s many reasons that I do (and just as many reasons that I find them frustrating,) but at the end of the day if I ask myself how I want to spend my time, it always comes back to comics. Having the flexibility to devote the majority of my creative time to telling Rask’s story in Oren’s Forge, and then onto whatever story comes next— would be absolutely life changing.
So, after much procrastination, I’ve finally made a Patreon to help support the comic. Just to be clear, it’s still my intention to post Oren’s Forge for everyone to read, either here or Webtoons.
However, Patron’s will get new pages a week sooner, plus some additional WIPs, character art, occasional tutorials, input into character or place names, etc. I’d like to keep it simple and if you want to and are able to support the comic, it’s greatly appreciated!
Oren’s Forge will continue to be posted soon. For Patrons, two new pages will be out May 13th. For everyone else it’ll be a page on May 20th and another on the 22nd. I plan to continue to post two pages a week for at least 2 and half months before a short 2-week break, then we’ll pick it back up at the same pace.
Oren’s Forge is also running up on WebToons now if you’d like to start over from the beginning and read it in a chapter form, 5 - 10 pages at a time.
If you can’t support on the Patreon but you’d still like to help— please consider sharing the comic with friends or subscribing on WebToons for free!

Badge Commissions, Plus Others
Posted 7 years agoUPDATE -- All full up this time around! Thank you everyone! --
Heya!
I'm going to open for a few badge/full color bust commissions. Here's some recent examples!
For the badges, I am also happy to add your characters name of course, and give you versions both with and without text.
Price is $70 per and I plan to have them finished before January 5th.
I am also open to taking one or two larger full color commissions. Some recent examples: Here, here, here, and here.
Prices for these vary largely on complexity of the scene, and range from $270 and up. These I can get done before December 20th, if you wanted something for the holidays. If you're interested, drop me an email at blackteagan[at]gmail[dot]com with what you had in mind, and I can get you a quote!
I don't mind drawing mature/NSFW stuff, with some caveats (consensual character interactions, everyone's 18+, etc.) If you have a question about what I will/wont draw, feel free to send me a note or email and I'm happy to answer!
Thanks guys!

Oren’s Forge, What’s Up
Posted 7 years agoI’ve gotten a ton of questions about my comic, Oren’s Forge, in the last few weeks. First off, thanks for those. Hearing people care about it and still think about it means more than you know.
So, what’s up —
First off, no, it’s not over. I just posted a new page because hot damn, leaving it where I did for so long was a bit of a downer. Sorry about that.
I stopped working full time on the comic last December for a planned break, then events in subsequent months made it harder and harder to work on it. The year’s been a rough one for a variety of reasons that I won’t get into, feel free to use your imagination; I hope there’s sharks and jet-packs and explosions involved. The most salient part of stalling out on Oren’s Forge was simple: free webcomics don’t pay any bills, so that time had to go elsewhere.
Oren’s Forge didn’t start behind a paywall, and I don’t really want to end with one— so, no Patreon plans. Big thanks to those of you who would gladly pay for it, you guys rock! Instead, maybe share the comic with some friends or pick up a hard copy when that comes to fruition (you can do that right now in French, if you want.)
Good news is, I’m sitting on some finished pages, I have more sketched out, and the entirety of the second half is laid out. Now it’s about finding the time and will power to pick it back up (comics are…draining.)
I don’t want to give a date that I’ll resume posting yet.
TL;DR: Oren’s Forge is not dead, it’s not forgotten, it’ll be back!
Thanks!

This Week in France
Posted 8 years agoGood day, bonjour!
Two things --
Perhaps you're following me on Twitter, so you know, BUT….
I'm signing copies of Oren's Forge at book sellers all over France this week, taken around by my French publisher and in company with an awesome bunch of comic creators!
The schedule as I know it, right now:
Oct 16 : Mulhouse
Oct 17 : Dijon
Oct 18 : Orleans
Oct 19 : Paris
Oct 20 : Amiens
Oct 21 : Metz & Nancy
Follow me on Twitter (@teagangavet) for more details (or if you just like seeing sketches and stuff.)
If you come by, I'll draw in your book of course, plus I've got a growing stack of random animal sketches in my sketchbook you're welcome to pillage something from if you know the secret phrase. (It's now "chien, no chat"**, but you've got to say as though it's a grand furry conspiracy and we're in a spy movie. Yeah, I know--weird, right?--but let's have fun (I've also had a lot of wine tonight so it sounds like an idea I will 100% love in the morning). **Also no offense to chats, you're cool, and I've got lots of big cat drawings.)
Finally, seriously, it's your very last chance EVER to get a Wolfram shirt! No foolin', less than 24 hours now. No extras are getting made, what's done is done! Get one and chances are really good you'll never have an embarrassing "same shirt" snafu at a convention again (least for one day!)
That's all! Thanks, and thanks to everyone who's come by so far, to the festival in Geneva, and Mulhouse and Dijon! :]

Update, Headed to Switzerland for Book Signing
Posted 8 years agoI'm a little overdue on a general update of things!
Life's kept me busy, both professionally and in the day-to-day, so I've been quiet online.
First off -- Oren's Forge will come back soon! I'll have a big update of pages starting the last week of October, or first week of November. I'm still making inroads (slowly but surely) so keep an eye out.
Speaking of Oren's Forge, my publisher for the French edition is bringing me out to the I LOVE Geek Festival in Geneva! I'll be there with a bunch of other comic creators, doin' our thing. Stop on in if you happen to be local!
After the Festival, I'm doing a week long book-signing tour around Switzerland for Oren's Forge. I don't have details on where I'll be exactly, but if you follow me on Twitter (@teagangavet), I'll be posting there (along with the usual sketches and dog photos!)
You may have seen my recent submissions, but in case not-- CottonBureau excepted a design of mine, "Wolfram!"
Check it out here. If you're interested at all in a shirt, you've only got a few more days to grab one! Seriously, once they're gone, that's it!

What’s Up/Badge Commissions [CLOSED]
Posted 8 years agoAh, what a spring it’s been—yup, busy, but with fun work-stuff like book covers and school mascots designs. Also, less fun stuff: endless packing, moving, moving friends, moving family, packing more, and a soupçon of spring cleaning to round it out.
Oren’s Forge is still coming along. Pages are taking me way longer than I remember them taking me— which I’m not sure if that means I’m slower, or the pages are more complicated, or a cruel combination of both. In any event, I’ll start posting again later this month. If you follow me on Twitter you may have heard this, or seen some page WIPs I’ve posted— by and large I’m more active there than here. (Obligatory plug - The French hard cover edition is still snazzy and available on Kramiek’s website, or Amazon.fr)
[CLOSED! THANKS FOLKS!] In other news: I’m taking a handful of badge commissions this week, for AnthroCon’s theme “Take Me Out to the Ballgame”. Figured it’s likely to be my only excuse to draw some classic Topps-style badges anytime soon!
If you’re interested, there’s more info here!

Oren's Forge, available in France! and--
Posted 8 years agoOren’s Forge made it’s official French release on March 29th, under the title La Forge d’Oren (Première partie : La Proie)!
The book is hard cover with extra concept/WIP art, pretty snazzy. I’ll post some photos of my own eventually, but in the meanwhile, folks on Twitter have spotted it in the wild!
Cover Photo from @TitashMeerkat | Cover/Interior Photos from @NKogitsune
You can find it right now in book shops in France (and Belgium, I believe), as well as online from Kramiek’s website, right here.
(It’s also on Amazon.fr and various other sites!)
That’s great, but what about in English?
I don’t have any new information about an English print edition, yet. Trust me, though, it’s something I’m working toward! It’ll happen!
What about German/Spanish/etc?
We shall see, but uh, fingers crossed...
When will you start posting more pages?
I’ll start posting Oren’s Forge again toward the end of May, barring anything unforeseen.
Thank you as always! More Oren’s Forge stuff coming your way soon!

Oren’s Forge in Print, and…!
Posted 9 years agoOren’s Forge will be printed and available in French from Paquet (www.editionspaquet.com) early next year!
I’ve been going back and forth with the publisher for a few months now, working to get everything in order.
Largely, that consists of finishing the comic itself, adjusting pages with full bleed panels to accommodate the French page size, and going back and re-doing a few things from early on that have been bugging me. I’m also currently working on both of the French edition covers, for the first and second book.
For publishing/printing/sanity, I’m splitting Oren’s Forge into two books, both ~62 pages. From Paquet, the French language edition of the first book will be out January 2017, and the second in the summer of 2017.
But what about Oren’s Forge in English, you might ask!
My plan for the English rights has always been to pitch the comic to a short list of publishers first, and see if anyone’s interested. It’s off to make the first stop on the rounds soon.
I’ll know more about English editions in a few months, and (fingers crossed) you’ll probably be seeing one sometime next year!
Update to Posting Schedule:
I’m dropping down to posting once a week for now, to Mondays (sorry, guys.) Why? I’ve got a lot of irons in the fire right now and just need to free up a little extra time/flexibility.
Will the whole of Oren’s Forge posted online?
That’s a good question. The entirety of the first part (62 pages) will be posted online. Right now, my plan is to stop there, and probably post the first part of the second half starting sometime next year. I honestly don’t have a plan yet! Who knows!
I do know that I want to make as much of the story available as possible, in balance with one day making a little return on it.
Thanks as always!

Oren's Forge - 50 Pages and Counting
Posted 9 years agoIt’s pretty exciting to be pushing past the 50 page mark with Oren's Forge today!
I just wanted to say thank you guys for reading and your comments! If you want to do anything to help keep it going, all I ask right now is that you share it with folks who might also enjoy it! :]
And YES, I know martens climb and Rask WILL climb a tree-- I just want to point out that when pursued by bipedal, sentient hunters with opposable thumbs treeing yourself might not always be the first/best option available! ;]
I’ve also updated the FAQ with a few things, and some initial print-edition talks have begun so we'll see where that goes...!
Thanks again! Here’s to another 50 pages!!

Oren’s Forge, And So On
Posted 9 years agoI’m overdue to change up this journal here, I think!
What's Going On? Well, my time is largely consumed by making comics. One's about weasels and explores how animals are dumb when it comes to fire; the other is about sleds.
Oren’s Forge is a graphic novel, the majority of which will be published online. (All of it might be in the end, or it’ll end up in print--who knows.)
At current count, it's going to be 115 pages, if I don't rework some later scenes.
It's still largely a fun project that is slowly draining my will to live. I think I will never willingly draw rocks again after this comic.

It updates on Mondays and Wednesdays, usually around 3pm PST.
Here’s a link to the FAQ.
You can of course read it right here on FA from the beginning.
It’s also available on:
- Tapastic (A nifty site for webcomics)
- DeviantArt
- www.orensforge.com/comic
- Tumblr (which is a little like throwing dust in the wind, so if you want to read it sequentially, just about anywhere else is better. Though I do post a lot more sketches and stuff on Tumblr, typically.)
- Twitter, for sketches, pages, WIPs, occasional dog photos, and what have you.
Oren's Forge, Chapter One
Posted 9 years agoWe've reached the unofficial end of Chapter One of Oren's Forge!
Oren’s Forge will be resuming January 18th, once again posting Mondays and Wednesdays!
You can read it from the beginning right here on FA, or on Tapastic or www.orensforge.com/comic
A little more about the comic, etc:
Oren’s Forge is a graphic novel, which is to say, it’s long (100+ pages) and was written/scripted out before I started setting pencil to paper (er, well, e-paper.) I began writing the story in late 2013, then set it aside until early 2015 when I decided to come back to it.
All of it is written and much of the page layouts have been done. So why the chapter breaks? Partially, it’s so I can comfortably stay a completed chapter or more ahead of the game. The other part is the pragmatic reality that posting comics online doesn’t keep the coffee stockpiles full, so I have to take a little time doing some freelance work.
FAQ Updates:
“Why not eat the birds?”
I’m actually surprised no ones brought up “why don’t they eat fish?” more often, but I have to say, martens aren’t hunting bison, so, they are obviously eating smaller game. They just happen to also get eaten by the apex predators.
In the anthropomorphic worlds I like to build, a wolf is still a wolf, otherwise I guess I’d just write about humans. In the stories I write, I like the idea of applying animal nature to allegory.
Wolves, wolverines, bears, cougars, etc, are all wholly separate species from their prey, much like a human is to a pig, or a whale, or an elk. It’s safe to assume that in the world of Oren’s Forge, a wolf doesn’t take the time to talk to her food. Maybe she doesn’t even speak the same language.
Back to birds— corvids (ravens, crows, jays, etc) are very intelligent. They’re also avian, which is to say, not a mammal. In this world, avians stayed the course and stuck to their wings, though that didn’t stop some of them from working in conjunction with other animals for mutual benefit. Such as the wolves and ravens in the Oren’s Forge, which is similar to the natural behavior of actual corvids and wolves.
I imagine given the chance, a wolf would gladly eat a pigeon, but probably not the bird that leads him to a nearly incapacitated bison.
I should note that there is nothing so far suggesting that in the world of Oren’s Forge, ravens don’t have the capacity to communicate. ;]

Anyway, hope everyone has a FANTASTIC (and relatively safe) New Years! See you on the other side!!

Graphic Novel - Oren’s Forge
Posted 10 years agoOn and off during the last year or so, I’ve been working on a graphic novel called “Oren’s Forge.” I'm excited to say that a good chunk of it is done, and ready to go.
I plan on posting the first half (around 50-60 pages) online, twice a week, starting November 16th.
Pages will get posted here, as well as Tumblr and Taptastic (which is a great website to read web comics, by the by.)
What’s Oren’s Forge about? Well...
It’s about a world filled with carnivores and their prey. With lower population densities, the hunters are constantly on the edge of starvation, and the prey is always on the lookout for oncoming death. It’s not a very rewarding existence to live in constant fear and hunger.
However, a story starts to spread through the forests and field about someone named Oren, who has made a sanctuary for the “prey” animals. Here, they don’t need to spend every breath wondering if it’s the last. They say that Oren tamed the very sun to keep his people safe from hunters.
That’s all well and good for the rabbits and squirrels of the world. However, Rask and Quannaq are pine martens—they eat flesh, but they are small enough to be considered a meal for the wolves, bears and gluttons. Their lives are also spent in the shadow of fear, but also they want more than that.
They’ve begun their journey to the lake where it’s said the sanctuary lay, but whether they will find welcome or ruin waits to be seen…
