Woof!
General | Posted 12 years agoI just itemized an invoice for a pretty big commission! Over $1000 in costume design and construction, 21 pieces in all, for a dinner theater production two months from now!
Signal Boostin' for Kacey!

Kacey needs your help in dealing with false statements/claims being made about her. This has been going on for quite a while now.Original journal:

If anyone gets an E-Mail about
Kacey that is abusive, derogitory, or libelous in nature, please, let her, or
ayukawataur know asap. Unemployed!
General | Posted 12 years agoWell, guys, I'm out of a job. And by that, I mean I couldn't handle working in that dreadful place any more, so I had to quit to spare my sanity. I can't really express how horrid working there has been, not without using some rather unpleasant words.
So of course the drawback of this freedom is that I'm now completely unemployed. I don't really have enough watchers yet to really justify opening commissions, but I guess I could at least set something up?

General | Posted 12 years agoI found some videos on Youtube of Border Collies doing tricks, and I thought to myself, jeez, I can't do all these, I need to train harder!
But how many other dogs do you know that can type legibly? Or make costumes? I figure I've got a few things on them.
Besides, where they're just playing dead, I've played major roles in over a dozen theatrical performances! Top THAT!

Little dog in the big city!
General | Posted 12 years agoNot the BIG big city, mind you, but I spent the day in Philadelphia with one of my best friends (who's a butt and doesn't have an FA account)! We wandered around Old Town for a bit, didn't quite make it to Penn's Landing but we saw lots of stuff!
Also, Mumbai Bistro on Locust Street is like the BEST Indian food. I strongly recommend it!

La la la sewing
General | Posted 13 years agoI've been busy as heck today! I just finished making a cute-as-heck spaghetti strap cami and a green maxi skirt!
I love making clothing, coming up with designs that work with my wonky-as-heck body type is always fun! I mean, bottoms have to account for my tail, pullovers have to fit over my big ol' snout, and everything has to account for all the fur! (zippers are the devil)
I like to think I do a good job. Maybe I'll come up with some pictures later, when I'm not so darn busy?

Done!
General | Posted 13 years agoGuess who's got two thumbs and just finished a big commission?
THIS dog!
Actually, hey, are these things thumbs or what? I mean they're opposing and I use them for grabbin' stuff, but do dogs HAVE thumbs? Even bipedal, anthropomorphic dogs?
Anyway! Yeah, we agreed on $90 for both shirts, which isn't too bad considering the customer supplied the fabric. I took some extra care with them, made sure they were really nice and comfortable, because he's going to be fencing in them and it's important that he can move easily.
Now if only I can keep getting orders like this... Still working on getting set up for fur and foam, there's a good deal of overhead. I don't want to start taking orders on fursuits until I've made at least one as a prototype. Oh well!

So Freaking Busy
General | Posted 13 years agoI have so much to dooooo! Between costume commissions, my OWN work making my dress for a wedding I was invited to, continuing to move things to the new place, spending time with my partner, spending time with my friends, and it's just so hot that I can't go anywhere without roasting in my car that doesn't have air conditioning, even with the windows down, and this sentence has been going on for a long time without a conclusion, I have barely had any time to spend on fun stuff! Sorry I've been not updating as much, hopefully my life will become less hectic soon!
Biosheet!

Name: Grace Bordeaux Collier, or Gracie for short!
Age: 28
Sex: F
Species: Dog - Border Collie
Height: 5'10" (yep, I'm tall!)
Weight: 165 lb
Appearance:
- Hair and fur: Long black hair, a little messy. I keep it clipped up over my right eye with a pink hairclip. Fur is black and white, long and shaggy in places, generally fairly soft and smooth but a little ruffled here and there.
- Markings: White stripe going from hairline down between my eyes where it widens out over my cheeks. White bib, black back except for very upper back between shoulder blades, black shoulders going slightly down my upper arms, then white all the way down my arms. Black hips and thighs (inner and outer), down to a few inches past my knees, then white the rest of the way down my legs. Black tail with white tip.
- Eye color: Cornflower blue!
- Other features: I almost always wear my hair clip! I even sleep with it on sometimes. Other than that not much to note, little whiskers on my nose but that's about it.
Behavior and Personality: Cheerful! I like to think of the bright side of things, even when I'm feeling sad. I sometimes engage in wanton acts of shenaniganry, but overall I'm fairly well-behaved. No, really I am!
Skills: I sew, play music (mostly hand drums, I taught myself!), and fix cars. An odd combination, sure, but I have fun doing it!
Weaknesses: I have a really hard time making decisions! And, like, if I have to do something, I can get kinda overwhelmed trying to figure out what steps to take to do it. I like having someone there to tell me what to do. Also I like to ask questions and I tend to overshare and talk too much.
Likes: Spring and Autumn, raipsing through the woods, chasing bunnies (as long as they say it's ok first, I don't want to traumatize the poor things!), rolling in the grass, napping under a tree, regarding the wonders of nature (like that silly little lady bug, she was fun!)
Dislikes: Loud noises, hot weather, getting sprayed by skunks (even if they do apologize afterwards), polynomials (what? they're HARD)
History: I grew up in the countryside, but not on a farm. I was a carefree puppy, running around and having adventures. Eventually, though, I moved into town, but I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the country life.
Clothing/Personal Style: I don't always wear clothes at home, but when I'm out I have a fairly casual style. Comfy sundresses, skirts and strappy tops, or just jeans and a t-shirt. I never wear shoes, they don't make them in my size and besides it's more comfortable to just go barefoot!
Picture: (here's me at home waiting for company to arrive) https://www.furaffinity.net/view/10924691/
Goal: To have fun, make good friends, and leave the world a better place than I found it.
Profession: Seamstress
Personal quote: "Woof!" (What? I don't talk people words, at least I can type though!)
Theme song: Martyr, by Rusted Root. Despite the name, it's a really upbeat song!
Birthdate: August 7th, 1984
Star sign: Smack dab middle of Leo!
Favorite food: Kale! No, really, I have a thing for dark leafy greens
Favorite drink: Unsweetened iced tea
Favorite location: Trees!
Favorite weather: Mid afternoon after a rainstorm in spring or early autumn, in a forested clearing, with a light breeze.
Favorite color: Green
Least liked food: Coconut (because it tries to kill me! Stupid allergies)
Least liked drink: Anything alcoholic, it just tastes nasty
Least liked location: A big crowd or a busy city, too much going on at once, I get overwhelmed
Least liked weather: Hot and muggy

Insoooomniaaaaa!
General | Posted 13 years agoIt's half past three over here on The Correct Coast, and I'm trying to convince myself to lie down and try to sleep. My brain doesn't shut up most nights, so I stay awake while my thoughts buzz around. Maybe I should get more exercise before bed, tire myself out so I can just pass out?
Then again, knowing me I'd just end up all hyped up on endorphins and stay up even later. Being a high-strung dog meant to chase sheep around has its drawbacks, especially since I don't live on a farm with sheep. I've taken to herding people across the street at crosswalks, just to keep my skills from getting rusty!
I'm glad I'm moving out into the country soon, where I'll have room to run and play! Still no sheep, though. I bet I'll sleep better out there anyway!

General | Posted 13 years agoSo as a lovely little bonus, up in the new workshop I found a roll of 1" foam sheet! It's still in good shape, hasn't been in the sun, so I can definitely make use of it!
Of course, I still need to get some decent fur, and a bunch of other little notions and bits, but hey, it's a good first step to making my first fursuit head!

Moving!
General | Posted 13 years agoRemember the new workspace I'd mentioned waaay long ago? Well, I'm finally going through with the move! Tomorrow I start moving my sewing equipment over ^_^
I haven't heard anything new about the job offers yet, I'm getting my information from, like, a third-hand source, so it takes a while to figure things out. Still, I'm hopeful!

Career Paths
General | Posted 13 years agoSo I had two potential job offers fall into my lap the other day.
One is as a costume designer for an acting troupe, I don't have any details on it beyond that, I'd need to learn more before I commit to anything. The other is an apprentice for a high-end tailor. The tailor would probably pay better, and be more consistent, but costuming is more my thing, and is a lot more fun!
Honestly it'll probably come down to which one pays better, has better hours, stuff like that, but I don't know which one I'd go for if all else were equal. Of course there's also the possibility that both will fall through, but I prefer being optimistic about this!

Not Dead Yet!
General | Posted 13 years agoHey guys, sorry I've been like completely silent for a while, I've just had stupid IRL problems getting in my way. Still haven't migrated to the new workspace, got the worst bronchial infection I've had since I quit smoking over a year ago (quitting did WONDERS to my fur, btw, it's all shiny and luxuriant), and just running around trying to keep everything together and sane and happy, I haven't had any time to log on here!
So yeah, sorry about that! No new art incoming, since I haven't had an idle moment to sit down and doodle (and my creativity goes down the drain when I'm sick), but hopefully soon I'll be all better and less frazzled and can work on some FUN stuff!
Oh, actually I have a question to throw at my few faithful followers: Where is a good source for foam? I'm talking the dense but squishy stuff that's used to build up headbases before furring, I've found a couple places but they's 'spensive!

Brainstorming the new shop
General | Posted 13 years agoSo in the next month or so, I'll be setting up a new workshop. New location, more space, and the opportunity for much better organization!
I spent today musing over things I want in this shop, and I came to the conclusion that I desperately need a new cutting table. So my idea is to go out and pick up a 4x8' sheet of plywood and some 2x4s and throw a table together. Cover the surface with cutting mat material, put in little pockets for pincushions and fabric pencils and other odds and ends, and just overall make it look nice and functional.
I've never done anything like this before, but I have a good head for measurements and angles and spatial organization, so I think I can pull it off! If I get it all figured out, it'll make drafting and patterning SO much easier than using the little 3x5' table I've got now. Then I just need to figure out what to do with my sewing machine and serger (probably just a long desk with good lighting), set up shelves for storage, and possibly a dedicated area for foaming and furring headbases and working with DTDs for fursuits. I'm having a lot of fun designing this workspace, and when it's done I'll have an awesome place to do commissions, thus passing the benefit on to you, my dear friends! (and deer friends, can't forget the ungulates!)
I know I haven't had open commissions here yet, so this post is probably more of a "so what" to you guys, but I just felt like I had to share ^_^
