And now, I might as well throw myself right into the OMG PERSONAL CASUAL ZONE and post something related to FA that's right from the good ol' land of el-jay...
"I just clicked a link that led me to FA, and I saw a banner at the top depicting a well drawn Santa being punched in the face by a cartoony, furry whatever, and just... I dunno. I've been seeing a lot of this imagery lately.
Call me old fashioned, or a fucking softie or whatever, but Santa, even though he, in the strictest terms isn't real, is a symbol of kindness and of generosity, of good things. It's sad that the holiday to which he is associated has been made into an atrocity of commercialism, and it's sad that Santa has become some ill-thought illusion spat out by weak and watery American well-to-do families,0 but shit. Santa's not the one they should be persecuting, here.
Seeing Santa, this symbol of giving and altruism being raped, punched, dismembered, decapitated, and otherwise killed is to me a painful spectacle. It's another sign that this world has fucking gone to shit. Now it's not enough to be an asshole to everyone every day, but now to be "rebellious" or to indulge in some bullshit, watered-down and pussified version of "Punk," people now feel the need to deface the persona of Santa Claus. It's fucking sad, it really is.
So maybe you have some vendetta against Santa because your parents lied to you and told you he was real when you were little. Perhaps the shock of finding out he wasn't fucked with your head.
Perhaps you hate him because of the holiday he represents, the over-commercialized and thoroughly sodomized excuse of a holiday to hemmhorrage more money into big corporations or something.
Thing is, in some way, Santa is real. And I don't mean the stupid Christmas special Santa, but really. The things that Santa represents are real, so by proxy a little bit of him is real. Santa's a metaphor for niceties, for love and giving.
Santa's everywhere. He's the old man in the park who tosses extra seeds for the birds and squirrels in the winter, since he knows it's hard to survive in the cold;
He's the child who lets go of her mother's hand to give a homeless guy some of her food;
He's that dude who let you pass when you were in a hurry;
He's the sales clerk who let you off when you were a dollar short.
I'm not ashamed to say I still love Santa.
I may not be the biggest freak about Christmas, and I may not be that psyched about winter, and I may not decorate my house with a hundred billion lights and decorations. But I still love Santa, and I don't like to see him being defiled. I don't think it's funny, I don't think it's original and I don't think it's got spice or spunk or what the fuck ever you want to call it.
You're not a rebellious cool punk for killing Santa. You're an asshole.
And that's what the bat says."
