80s TV influences why I like Get Along Gang group characters
General | Posted 7 years agoHill Street Blues, St. Elsewhere, L.A. Law. Large ensemble casts, a great mix of comedy and drama, and 3 well-written multiple stories (at least one story is self-contained as in beginning and ending in the same episode) interwoven in one hour . Fits the multi-character 80s Gang concept well.

Chinese Music to draw stuff by
General | Posted 7 years agoRaised in an Asian household, this is some amazing instrumental music stuff one can find in cheapo cassette tapes my parents would buy during weekend visits with the grandparents in Chinatown during the 1970s. Still listen to it when I need music to draw stuff. Music from the Singapore group The Apollo, conducted by Oscar Young. Don't ask me about the song titles...can't read Chinese.

General | Posted 9 years agoDowngraded my Comcast cable tv package from Digital Starter ($102.00) to Limited Basic ($29.99 plus taxes, set up box rental, broadcast fees to total $45.32 a month)...local channels only plus digital subchannels, Discovery Channel, and all the C-SPAN I can tolerate without changing antennas all the time.
Not exactly good must see cable after 30 plus years of Basic Cable starting from $19.99 a month with cable ready tv's but it's entertainment within my budget. Love that MeTV, Buzzr, Movies!, and Decades.
Scumcast still sucks.

An Audio equivalent to me commissioning better artists
General | Posted 9 years agoThe following Youtube videos are an equivalent of me as a fannish artist of questionable visual skills commissioning better artists to draw ideas of mine.
Joe Meek, noted 60s songwriter of "Telstar", couldn't sing or read music...but he had a general idea of the type of melody he wanted for his tunes and employed various skilled musicians to "translate" his off-key humming and scat singing into skillfully played instrumental music that is easy to listen to.
So, this is dedicated to the better artists I commissioned...thank you.
Examples:
"Globe Trotter" by The Tornados... the beginning had Joe Meek recording his vocals as a demo of his proposed tune and ending with the finished product:

Peppered and Somewhat As-salted.
General | Posted 9 years agoI work in a medium sized (20 stories) highrise in one of the middle floors (9th floor to be exact). The building has a parking garage with a section for bicycles.
Bike thieves attempted to break in to the bike storage area around 10:30am on Tuesday March 28. A building guard spotted the thieves and the thieves sprayed the guard with pepper spray and got away. The air ventilation system in the building carried the pepper spray mist to the main lobby where it had to be evacuated. The spray carried over into the lower floors including the 9th floor where people sitting in the middle section of the floor near the elevators started coughing loudly. I sit close to the outer section of the the floor by the windows and felt my throat getting dry and sore...as if I chowed down on a very spicy peppery breakfast and feeling the after effects. Had a cup full of ice water enough to still have my voice. A "stay in place" order was given by the building security for the building's occupants and things were re-opened during the noon lunch hour. Throat was a little scratchy overnight but it seems okay now. Considering it was not a pleasant experience being 9 floors up, it must have been ugly in the affected areas close by.
I think the guard who got sprayed was okay...I didn't hear any ambulance or police car sirens during the whole time. A few other familiar guards in the morning shift showed up for work today.
The night before, some teenage girl spritzed pepper spray in a shopping mall close to my neighborhood for some unknown reason and 16 people had to go the hospital to get checked out...luckily I didn't go shopping at that time.
Pepper Spray works in the right hands to ward off attackers...too bad the wrong hands used it.

General | Posted 9 years agoGame show producer and Gong Show host Chuck Barris dies at age 87. Created and produced The Gong Show, The Dating Game, The Newlywed Game, 1970s Treasure Hunt, Dream Girl of 1967, The $1.98 Beauty Show, The Family Game, The Parent Game, Three's A Crowd, and How's Your Mother In Law? from the 1960s to 1980.
John Barbour of Real People series fame was the host of the 1976 Gong Show pilot but took the hosting role too seriously. Barris took over as a more goofball host when NBC bought the show for its daytime schedule. Gary Owens hosted the nighttime weekly version in syndication for a season before Barris replaced him as well. Among the winning Amateur acts included Paul Reubens aka Peewee Herman, Oingo Boingo band with film composer Danny Elfman, Michael Winslow the sound effects guy in the Police Academy movies, Andrea McArdle of Annie fame, future Super Bowl winning coach Brian Billick, and actress Mare Winningham (St Elmo's Fire).
Wrote the 1960s song Palisades Park that was performed by Freddie Cannon. Barris also composed The Newlywed Game and Treasure Hunt theme songs.
Wrote the autobiography Confessions of a Dangerous Mind where Barris claimed to be a CIA assassin during his game show producing days that was turned in a movie that starred Sam Rockwell as Barris, Julia Roberts, and George Clooney who also directed the film.
Barris's daughter Della appeared on The Gong Show introducing her daddy in the beginning of some shows. She died of a drug overdose in 1998 at age 36.
Barris was criticized for the shock and poor taste content on his programs. He was quoted that "if viewers were eating something while watching my
shows and if I could make those viewers stop moving their forks before it reaches their mouths for a period, then the show is a hit!"

RIP Mary Tyler Moore
General | Posted 9 years agoGreat actress and groundbreaker in tv sitcoms...as the Capri pants wearing Laura Petrie on "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and as newsroom writer and single Mary Richards on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show". The first in "real" and funny female sitcom leads.
To think, she started with only showing her legs on camera as the phone service girl in "Richard Diamond, Private Eye".

Vote for 8 new tokens out of 50 choices including a rabbit, a fish, horse, penguin, rooster, turtle, bunny slipper, rubber duck, emojis, bathtub, vehicles, household appliances, and other items.
One can vote to retain the classic tokens (old race car, dog, battleship, top hat, wheelbarrow, thimble, shoe, cat)...no unretirement for the iron, horse and rider, howitzer/cannon, money bags, and train, though.
Voting ends January 31, 2017. The top 8 vote getting new tokens will be a part of a Monopoly Token Madness game set along with the 8 classic tokens...16 total.
I voted to keep the old race car, top hat and dog and voted for the penguin, rabbit, rubber duck, bathtub, and sunglasses.
Update 2/17/2017. The thimble has been voted out. Replacement and the top 8 new tokens will be announced on March 19, 2017 which is World Monopoly Day.
3/17/2017 The new token winners are the Tyrannosaurus Rex, the Penguin, and the Rubber Duck. They will replace the thimble, the shoe/boot, and the wheelbarrow in new Monopoly game sets.
