Realised way too late that I haven’t done an updated entry in over four months… oops.

As you can tell, I’ve started posting actively on here again for the first time in forever, so please look forward to new pages of Poking Around (man, we’re fast closing in on my current pace of comics, huh?) and Infurlation Redux and Flora-Fauna-Fen SURVIVE.

I know some have complained about the resolution but that’s FA’s doing, not mine… and I’m not made of money so I can’t really afford a subscription at the minute for FA+ -- not pan-handling, just stating facts.

A belated Happy New Year to you; welcome to 2024.

This month was an eventful one, as my payment processor temporarily suspended my account and totally killed my motivation to work for a while (fortunately, all resolved now), as well as some other stuff...

Still, I hope you’ve been enjoying the uploads of Poking Around, as well as the updates of Infurlation Redux (10 pages in rapid succession, go me), and Battlefield Foxglove (once I finally got my butt in gear and put stylus to tablet again; man, that’s an increasingly complicated one to draw nowadays and I’m no spring chicken anymore).

Alas, the burnout of doing 3 comics all at once is real so I’m taking February off to work on commissions for a while.

Therefore, there won’t be any updates —except Poking Around since I’m barely ⅕ of the way in posting that, and I pulled an all-nighter recently updating the translation notes guide (man, link rot is an increasing annoyance). So look forward to more pages of that. I don’t have a strict schedule per se; seems to be more of an ‘as and when’ situation since I have more commitments going on than solely reposting old content.

And yeah, that’s about it.

Thank you very much to everyone who continues to read and/or support my work. I know my irregularity, increasing outdated-ness and convoluted storytelling are a major barrier to entry, given how most prefer simple light-hearted works but… well, this is the hill I choose to perish on, I guess.

I really should update these journals more often than every couple of months...

Anyway, hi. Thank you for continuing to support my work, whether you're actively funding the production of these comics, or you're just passively reading for free.

As is pretty darn obvious, I've been back home and working hard since mid-October, though granted, Infurlation Redux has been a bit of a casualty of my laxness. It's pretty difficult to draw and I've been rather full on with other commitments, one of which you'll eventually see here.

In the spirit of Christmas (and some other stuff), after seven long years, Poking Around is finally going public. Well, kinda-- it's over 100 pages and I'm not going to spend every waking minute re-uploading pages whilst I have other stuff going on. So you'll see this new addition update slowly over time. But as for Infurlation Redux, I ironically had inspiration strike for the first time in ages in how I'm to depict it going forward -- a written document exists but it's one thing to transpose words into images and not simply have reams of speech bubbles; something I'm all too aware of being guilty of and I'm trying to course correct as I go along.

Flora-Fauna Fen SURVIVE: Battlefield Foxglove I've no issues with; it's just a matter of doing it since that's turned into quite a complicated one to draw. But hey, one can't improve if they're not constantly challenging themselves, right? (though some would argue they'd prefer if I just produced something given how sporadic these updates are...) Taxing but rewarding.

And yeah, that's about all I wanted to say. Thank you again to everyone who continues to support my work; extremely grateful for the support and couldn't keep doing this without you. 17 years... where does the time go...?

It’s been over half a year since I last wrote a journal entry on this account specifically so I’m well overdue an update.

I write this with just over a week to go until I’m actually off on holiday for a month and a half; how inopportune, I know. I shall go dark (offline) because I’ll be in Africa for a family wedding, and whilst I return to England in the latter part of August, I’m actually hosting the boyfriend for a few weeks. So I won’t actually be home home again until mid/late September 2023.

This holiday has been a long time coming – set up since last Christmas -- so I’ve been working frenetically the past six months between my commissions and Patreon commitments to cover for the loss of earnings for a while. The consequence of that is both my comics fell off the list of priorities for a while; that and a real lack of will to work on them since they both deal with subject matter that’s not exactly “And then we went to prom and kissed and everyone cheered” material.

However, with the last few days free before I fly out, I wanted to at least update one of them, which I’ve successfully done with Battlefield Foxglove.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank every single one of you who has supported my works over the years. It’s very gratifying to know that even with my lengthy periods of time where I don’t seem to do anything meaningful, there are still those who are willing to read or support my work first hand.

I’m not sure what is going to happen come the Autumn, given how certain things are being fast-tracked in my neck of the woods: https://bills.parliament.uk/bills/3137 which may mean my no longer being able to access some services.

It’s only too ironic that after months of inactivity, I suddenly produce new pages only then to have to go on a break again due to the Christmas Holiday. I’ll be spending a few days with family.

What I said in late August/ early September regarding whether I’m able to continue or not obviously did not come to pass at the time -- all outlined here: https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/10316535/ -- A nasty part of me would even say that I ended up throwing away a valuable few weeks or months when I should have taken advantage of the opportunity... but I would'nt say that per se, because honestly, I am very grateful for the last run of commissions I had in the Autumn.

I'm being cautious here because it's been confirmed that there are some staffers who like to haunt this platform (even making accounts) and pass judgement on those who use Pey-🎄-yun based on what is posted off-site. So… who knows what will happen? I’ll keep you updated once I know better.

So I attended Patreon’s Livestream last night (30th August 2022) and got a rundown of what’s to happen.

Due to pressure from Mastercard, all content creators on Patreon who draw nudity and sexual content* will have to be age-verified by the end of the year. Despite already having verified ID for tax and financial purposes, Patreon isn’t allowed to hand over data to Mastercard, who insist they want some form of identity and age verification.

So Patreon will be turning to Jumio - more info here: https://www.jumio.com/ and will contact Content Creators directly, both via email and on the platform itself, about the process. This will begin September proper and will occur throughout the month.

There will be a grace period of two months to allow Content Creators a chance to decide what to do. Submit to immediate age/ID-verification? Prepare the necessary documents** to do so (renewing driver’s license, passport, etc)? Clean up their profile to re-categorise as SFW (SFW Content Creators need not verify themselves) or prepare to leave?

Come November leading into December 2022, Patreon will need a definitive answer as they aim to have all NSFW/18+ Content Creators verified by the start of 2023, possibly to coincide with the new financial year in the US (in the UK, it begins April 2023). Some accounts who haven’t responded to the summons may be frozen until such time they respond.

That’s what they said definitively.

Patreon will be updating their FAQs and TOS and post up a bunch of things over the coming days/weeks so everyone is in the clear about what’s what (one person even asked could Patreon provide a definitive list of kinks they don’t allow there) – I don’t even have a link ready to give you yet, but I thought it crucial I keep everyone updated on what’s to come.

The presentation was an hour long, with only the last 20 minutes as such dedicated to Q&As so it was rather frustrating not having the million questions people asked answered. It was nice to hear from one person who definitively asked “what about those of us who don’t depict irl humans but fictional species like aliens and furries?” but what they said was that as long as is there’s any nudity or sexual content in your work, you’re going to have to be age-verified as a Content Creator.

Please note, this does not affect Patrons who are pledging to Content Creators, just the Content Creators themselves.

And that’s about it. Couldn’t sleep so thought I’d do something useful since I don't see anyone else talking about it.

Sorry I don’t have anything more definitive than that, can only report what’s fact.

I'll write a more coherent updated version of this as more information comes to light and when it's not nearly 3am my time.

I know it’s been an irregular schedule given I’m a one-man team (though thanks for the assists  spiritedfox and mt5transmissions whose FA name I forget, and the invaluable advice and support from friends and the two otters I live with nowadays).

But even through the upheaval of moving house, Brexit (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brexit) and what we’ve all had to endure since 2020 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_pandemic), I’ve been able to do it.

TL;DC (didn’t click): it’s surrender your true identity to be verified, clean up your act (meaning going all vanilla and safe enough to air on Nick Jr. or Disney Jr. or something) or “just wait and see but we’ll have to freeze your payments if you don’t comply.” There will be a livestream on Tuesday 30th August 2022, 12pm PST (8pm BST) that’ll further discuss this and the newly formed Trust and Safety Moderation Team and what their powers will be.

It’s been an ongoing concern with Paytreeon given how there seems to be a sort of puritanical-style cleansing of the internet: remember what happened to Tumblr and what almost happened to a certain website best known for its erotic content? If not, links here:

Anyway, sticking with Paytreeon itself, since last October in earnest, the payment processor whose name rhymes with Faster Lard, succeeded in putting pressure on Paytreeon and gave them the ultimatum of “do as we say or we won’t process your payments anymore”, which is pretty much a death knell to any online business.

“Wait, so what’s the problem exactly? Just verify yourself and everything’s copacetic, right?”

I wish I could believe that, but several things come to mind.

Over here in the UK at least, they’ve been trying very hard to pass a very similar law under different guises – nowadays, it goes by the Online Safety Bill with the angle of “think of the children”: https://www.gov.uk/government/publi.....bill-factsheet but basically, it’s trying to curtail UK access to the internet to minimise access to harmful material, misinformation, blah blah, socio-political stuff that I really don’t want to start a debate over. I remember when it was colloquially dubbed the Snooper’s Charter, as an earlier part of said bill demanded you had to have a valid digital identity to do anything online that wasn’t Facebook or back then, Vine (think of it as a spiritual ancestor of TikTok)

Given how… prudish UK law is to certain forms of erotica here (which is why you don’t ever see me draw any of it nor publicize much of it outside of FA and commissions), I’m rather concerned what Paytreeon is doing will escalate things and make it very easy for the real me to get into a heap of in real life trouble; not because I’m saying or doing anything wrong but “someone’s got to made an example of.” People here have been arrested and charged for problematic tweets underneath the Digital Communications Act, and certain risqué anime and manga saw a man prosecuted for “harbouring indecent images” in a landmark legal first: https://www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/.....llegal-7958896


So it’s a bit of a big ‘ummm’, especially as to my horror, I learned the other day that despite the political instability here with the Prime Minister resigning, they’re still keen to push through the Online Safety Bill for a third reading next month (September).


Of course, with Paytreeon, this ‘reveal yourself’ schtick will apply worldwide. I’m very concerned about how this will roll out, and whether I should actually stay on the platform or not. I know, I know, don’t put your eggs in one basket, have a back-up plan, which I did have until this year happened.

I’m grossly oversimplifying this so this journal isn’t a million words long but partially thanks to what’s happened with Ukraine, the domino effect is that inflation and the cost-of-living have shot up dramatically over the past few weeks; everyone’s feeling the effects – energy bills, petrol/gas, food, rent, etc. Here in the UK, there’ve been a lot of strikes as wages haven’t kept up with the cost-of-livings, and given the after-effects of the pandemic screwing the economy up across the world, plus political instability in ne country, riots in another… it’s become a very ugly time to exist in.

What a time to have a birthday, eh?

With all this stuff going on, plus the sudden mass culling of Warner-Discovery erasing everything out of existence (just Google it), it’s left me in complete despair. Melodramatic, over the top, I know – boo-hoo, life is hard for everyone, I get it. And that’s what stinks the most: everything feels like it’s falling apart, utterly hopeless, no one has any idea of what to do to remedy this, if it even can be remedied.

I can’t blame people for wanting to stick their head in the sand and instead go nuts over a video game or an animation meme or whatever else. I wish I could do that too. But I’m stuck in this reality and now not even my art can get me through it anymore (doesn’t help my usual avenues of escape have dried up and I’ve retreated further and further from social interactions).

So with all this in mind, you can see why I had to stop Flora-Fauna-en SURVIVE and Infurlation Redux where I did. I’ve lost the will to work on them because come next month, I don’t even know if I’ll even be able to be funded.

And before some come at me with “well go to Stripe” (which only existed here in the UK as late as April 2021) or “use Gumroad” or whatever, it’s not as easy as transposing the methodology I used for Paytreeon. Even if Paytreeon didn’t follow through with this policy, the ongoing financial instability can’t be avoided or sidestepped… it’s all looking very gloomy and I’ve succumbed to complete and utter despair.

I don’t know what to do anymore. I’m not going to do anything stupid, so don’t worry about that. But yeah… that’s where we are now.

Sorry this wasn’t a very fun read but I owe people an explanation at least, since not everyone’s aware of what’s going on in the world.

Presently, all I aim to do is finish my commitments on Paytreeon for this month and see how things fare with the livestream and take it from there.
