Posted 5 years agoNormally, I don't like to talk about politics because more often than not, I get angry with the general state of affairs. Also, with how easily angered others get when you talk about a political opinion (such as how badly certain politicians are doing in office), it is easy to assume that not many people really know how to talk about these matters without degenerating into a shouting contest. You see these shouting contests every day in online forums.
That said, certain things we tend to think of as "political" really shouldn't be so divided on partisan lines.
BLACK LIVES MATTER. I put this in caps not to shout, but to call attention to that phrase. You might have seen it around the internet lately. It is a movement that is asking for police reform; specifically asking that the cops treat blacks (and other minorities) with the same consideration that white folks get. Now, I'm all for apprehending criminals, but that's a different thing from kneeling on somebody's throat for nine minutes to choke them. The former is naturally what cops are supposed to do. The latter is completely excessive and a violation of human rights.
And really, this is what BLM is about. Human Rights.
I know it doesn't take any courage to say things like this. Honestly, I'm saying this stuff because I'm really tired of people treating a movement for civil rights as a bunch of terrorists. This is a repeat of the civil rights movements of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.
I mean, I'm all in favor of preserving the music from those decades (and maybe paying royalties to the original artists), but can we please move forward so that we can stop mistreating various minorities in same way now that they've been mistreated then? Can we move on so that we are NOT doomed to repeat history and instead we can learn from it? Can we please stop looking at civil rights as a partisan thing and instead look at it for what it actually is? A humanitarian crisis.

Posted 5 years agoI just got back from a conventyion and I wound up forgetting the name of an artist who made one of my commissions. They didn't sign it, so I can't give them the credit they deserve until I find out who drew the piece for me. How should I find this information out?
To give an idea of what the image is, it's a robotic MLP style unicorn with a straight mane and tail manipulating the pieces of a toy robot in her telekinetic aura. On her flank is a pixelated screwdriver. The picture is black and white, done in pencils. The convention was Fur Squared 2020.

Hi all,
Last week, one of our students was shot directly in the face and he is fighting for his life. A little background about the school in which I work--over half the students come from free and reduced lunch, meaning they cannot afford the school lunches, and come from a very low-income household. We see many students who come to school just to receive their free breakfast and lunch every day, who oftentimes don't care about their education because they're simply attempting to make it to the next day. Statistically, kids who come from this background have a history of bad behavior and future bad behavior, or at least they continue to live in a cycle of poverty.
This particular student defied all odds, all statistics against him. He's supposed to be bound for college with a football scholarship. He loves his friends, loves his family, loves his teacher, and appreciates his education. He's supposed to go somewhere, be something. This has been taken away from him, and we are all devastated. I have watched my students sob in class, have to leave only to come back red- and puffy-eyed when they return. This student was loved by all, and was brutally shot in the face attempting to step in and prevent someone from being robbed. He was shot doing the right thing. No kid deserves this.
Currently, he's fighting, and has been for days. As a result, his medical bills have racked up daily. Our school community is trying to raise funds to help with his medical bills. If you can donate anything, I am BEGGING you to do so. If you cannot, I implore you to pass this on. Please. Our community would be forever grateful for your help. If you can only donate a little, #26 is his football number, and that would mean a LOT.

I have not interacted much with them myself, but according to their journal and gofundme (provided in the link above) they need money to get their gender confirmed, and in today's awful political climate, we cannot be certain that the legal resources to do what needs to be done will be available.

Considering that most martial artforms are really only usable with a fully human anatomy, taur martial arts (centaurs, chakats, etc.) would probably have to be quite different.
How so you think a taur would get by in a furry Street Fighter style tournament, the only relatively-unusual quality being that they're a taur (so this is supposing that commanding one's ki, as is typical in a fighting game, is a possibility. And so are exaggerated "wire fu" stunts like Ryu's and Ken's Hurricane Kick).
My guess is that s/he/i'd be pretty hard to balance in a fighting game.

"You suck, go kill yourself" is a personal attack. "All people have hatred in their hearts" is not an attack.
Accusing someone of being judging others by their own actions when they say that all people have hatred in their hearts is a personal attack, as it declares that the person, who has merely looked at things through a lens of their experiences rather than their actions, deserves to be mistreated for their experience-, NOT Action-driven beliefs.
You are literally saying that one's negative experiences are entirely their fault; the VERY DEFINITION of victim blaming! And this, to be perfectly frank, is not true.
It is not one's fault that they get mistreated by others. It is not one's fault that mistreatments get compounded.
And to the victims of this sort of attitude:
Anyone who tells you that the unjust shit you get in your life is your fault, just because your experiences have made you cynical, is at best misguided, and at worst a troll. Either way, they are not worth any amount of trouble to get them to understand your side.
And now, to those who have read all of that, I would like to give you something less depressing.

Is it wrong that I still Nintendo painted themselves into a corner with unfortunate names on this generation of Pokemon?
You have Pokemon Sun and Moon, which is getting shortened to "Pokemon S&M". (To quote one friend in reply, "Are whips and collars available?")
Another friend pointed out that the only way around that with those names would be Pokemon Moon and Sun, which would quickly get shortened to "PMS". And THAT has a host of other problems that I am sure people on Tumblr would just LOVE pointing out.
So, damned one way. Damned the other way. What do you guys think?
EDIT: This is an afterthought, and not something that has occurred yet. However, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure and all that. If this inspires anyone to make Pokemon fanart involving BDSM or Menstuation, DO NOT POST IT HERE! Your followers can watch for it on your account. Why this Single has no sympathy for other Singles (Rant)
Posted 10 years ago(Anyone who is currently in a good relationship should probably skip over this. It's not meant for happy couples, but rather the people who whine about being single and react to the "Friend Zone" as if it were some interdimensional prison more inhumane than Guantanomo Bay.)
I know I should be expecting a lot of bitterness in the following few days, but I always found it to be absurd. "Waaah, I'm single and not getting laid, boohoohoo...." Sorry. I just can't sympathize with that mentality. "Valentine's Day shames you for being single!" No. It just doesn't matter if you're single. "Where is Singles' day?" Same as where "White History Month" happens to be. Every other day/month of the year. We just don't see that because we take it all for granted.
I actually consider my single status to be a good thing myself. And I think I'm justified in this. Here are my reasons.
* No frivolous payments on things like diamonds and other trinkets just to try and appease the stereotype your significant other is expected to be. Seriously, Valentine's Day creates this expectation that your girlfriend MUST be a gold digger, which is not only needlessly expensive for men, but kind of insulting for women too. "Here, have this diamond ring because you're a gold digger," foesn't seem like a good way to impress your boyfriend or girlfriend
* No sexual relations may mean that you're a virgin. But guess what virginity means: An almost entirely sure lack of STDs. Seriously, virginity has that going for it, which is more than I can say for a relationship with nookie sessions.
* While I can't pull any statistics here, I can tell you that all relationships have the potential for abuse. Your boyfriend/girlfriend may very well go ahead and treat you like shit in a non-consensual manner. Being single meand I don't have to be afraid of that happening to me. (Though, as a note for all you battered lovers, if you ARE in such a relationship, get out! You will ONLY be getting more and more hurt the longer you stay in that relationship. Your abusive spouse/boyfriend/girlfriend is beyond any reasoning and does not deserve someone like you!)
* What about the people who really have no need for a soulmate? Aromantics? They are TROOPERS on par with the finest of all the world's militaries come Valentine's day just for putting up with all the "Waaah, I'm single" crap. And don't tell me they're just misanthropes. That's like telling bisexuals that they're "just confused" or telling Asexuals that they're "just prudes." It's ignorant shit and it needs to stop. Asexuals are every bit the minority that gays, lebians, bisexuals, pansexuals, asexuals, demisexuals, homoromantics and biromantics are.
* Are you enjoying your relationship anyways? Fine. You don't need to read this. For those who feel insulted that the object of their affections has put them in the "Friend Zone," guess what? The Friend Zone is NOT The Phantom Zone. (http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Phantom_Zone Seriously, read this link and come back.) Being Friend Zoned means that the person you find attractive STILL likes you as a person, but simply has no interest in having sex with you. You're a human, not a ferret. You don't need to have sex to survive. The Friend Zone is not going to kill you. You can deal with it.

One variation is known as the Oppression Olympics, where internet posters come up with more and more ways in which they are oppressed just to show off who is the most oppressed person in the world.
This is where we speculate on the lives ov carious anthropomorphic animals and how they might be oppressed by their societies at large.

* Play on animal stereotypes ("Because I'm a rabbit, everyone assumes I'm a horndog who will jump the bones of anyone I meet.")

This will allow LGBT+ people to be denied emergency care and other services. And no, it doesn't work the other way around. People can't deny you because they think your religion of choice is disgusting; it only goes one way. Fair, right?
If you would let someone die based on your personal beliefs, you don't have any business being in the medical field to begin with, but the fact that the law is supporting this is beyond deplorable.
