Leaving When FA Starts IDing Me
General | Posted a week agoIt's this simple. When (inevitably) the Age Verification and Digital ID laws are implemented in my area (or this site starts asking everybody for ID regardless), then I am dropping out of any and all sites where my account has pronz on it.
Some might be like "lol just use a VPN lol" First, if the site starts carding everybody globally, that won't make a difference. Second, I'd need to know what region I could safely set my VPN to for pronz. Thirdly, VPNs may either be banned globally or start forcing you to give THEM your ID, thereby defeating the purpose of VPNs as far as I'm aware.
At the very least, once these laws are implemented and people are sufficiently pissed off by them, maybe the people will FINALLY take action & get the laws repealed. (Just like prohibition, as this is similar in a lot of ways.) But until it's safe again, I'll have to quit pronz cold turkey.
I'll still be on Youtube. (Channel "2BITGaming." There are multiple 2BITGaming channels; Mine is the one with the familiar blue fox icon.) I MAY also use DeviantArt. (Account "TheGreatGator", also featuring the same blue fox icon.) DA is my sfw account, so even though pronz is on the site, I'd have more deniability there.
I will vanish from IB, FA and Discord. My accounts may still be there, I will simply not present any ID to access them, thus being unable to access them, likely.
I don't know when I'll be forced to leave, and I'll keep operating as normal until the day comes.
If you have any suggestions as far as VPN settings (and/or a VPN software that may remain safe to use even as laws go global), it might help keep me online. I'm not tech savvy enough to figure these things out myself. And my life's gonna be tough enough without pronz being tied to my ID and put on my permanent record. (For all I know that's already the case, but I'd still rather be safe than sorry.)

GeneX 19th Anniversary

I don't really have anything to celebrate our entry into the 20th year that I can post HERE, but on IB I am starting a somewhat ambitious Ai art project; creating an illustration for every single main GeneX chapter!
(I know, I know "Ewww, Ai"; Look, there's no way I'd ever get art of many of my characters made otherwise. You have any idea how many chapters and how many OCs the fanfic series contains? I can't even buy ONE commission, such is my horrific financial situation.)
Anyway, if you're NOT repulsed by Ai art and would like to have a look, swing by my IB gallery. There ought to be a link to it on my userpage somewhere. I've done WAY too much Ai art in the past couple years, so you can check that out, too.

Youtube Update 4/17
General | Posted a year agoBeen a while since I did one of these journals. A lot of different videos are coming out, so I'll tell ya what's going on!
Today, I finally release the next episode of Sonic Superstars, starting up Trip's story! (It is actually my first playthrough of it; I recorded it in November but struggled to get the videos edited. It kinda got put on the back burner during the holidays, and I still haven't edited all of the recordings...)
Wednesday videos will be coming out every other week, and Superstars will also be swapping with Pokemon, so in 2 weeks the next Pokemon video comes out, and Superstars returns in 4 weeks. Doing it this way gives me time to work on ALL the videos I need to edit.
Kingdom Hearts resumes on Monday with the first episode of Birth by Sleep. We're about halfway through the series...I guess?
On Friday I release my first Freedom Planet video! Freedom Planet 2 will follow after we finish the original. For now, I'm just playing as Lilac; I'll only do the other characters if the videos do well enough. Freedom Planet videos will release every other Friday.
On the other Fridays, I'll be releasing videos on my first ever playthrough of the original Paper Mario! If the videos do well enough, I'll cover The Thousand Year Door afterward.

I Have Problems With Frontiers

I can say that at least for once, Tails really isn't the focus of my issues. I do still wish he were playable, but there's promise in his portrayal. Now if only he could talk a bit more like a person instead of an AI, he'd be in good shape.
My issues have to do with a number of ways Frontiers fucks with the series' lore, all in pursuit of a story it feels like we've done a hundred times already. Like, did it really, REALLY have to be THIS again??! (trying to be spoiler-free)
The gameplay is fine for a first try at this sort of thing, though. But the story... It sucks. And it works really hard to hide the suck under a mountain of references, but those references are all hollow and meaningless, and just serve to remind me of better times never coming back.
Basically, I had fun, but certain parts of the story really upset me.
Anyone else wanna rant about problems with the game? Misery loves company. Let's try to avoid fighting, though. (Although I'll probably delete this journal later, anyway)

Happy Home Paradise
General | Posted 4 years agoThis is basically my review of the Animal Crossing DLC, which I'm pushing out real quick so I can focus on the holidays until mid-January...
The short answer to the value of this DLC is this... If you have New Horizons, and you like its design-focused gameplay, and you didn't buy the DLC yet...what in the heck are you waiting for??? This finally gives you a place to endlessly design without having to erase the work on your main island, it's win-win-win-win-win!
The DLC, "Happy Home Paradise," is basically a sequel to the 3DS game "Happy Home Designer", and I do pretty much mean a full-on sequel. We call it a DLC, but it's a full game stapled onto New Horizons. What's awesome about it is that both games feed into one another. You get items & abilities to take back to your main island, while at the same time, items and villagers from your main island can carry over into the DLC. Everything connects quite nicely but with one caveat... If you want to design homes for special characters, you'll need their amiibo. No building a torture dungeon to punish Redd for all those fake paintings unless you actually have his card.
So, that's essentially the gameplay. You design island homes for all the characters in the game, inside & out. It gives you utter freedom to actually use the thousands of items available. Additionally, the DLC brings a return of story progression that you may have enjoyed from the first week or two of the main game. Depending on how fast you take this, it could last between a couple days or a month before the story campaign finishes. I took a month. I'm busy. Anyway, as you progress the story, you unlock things like partition walls, colored interior lighting, polish effects, and soundscapes, which you can use back in your own house as well.
You also get to build facilities like a school, cafe, hospital, etc. Each facility has a minor function after construction as well, so the villagers you employ within aren't just for show. They actually work there. Me, I themed all the facilities after Sonic, in keeping with my main island's theme. The school is actually a sweatshop where Eggman forces villagers to build robots for him. ^^; The cafe is based loosely on the Neon Tavern from my fanfics. I named the hospital "Two Byte Hospital." Did you know Sonic DLC was added to Two Point Hospital this year?
Anyway, I'll have some of my builds online... HERE'S THE STUPID CODE BECAUSE NINTENDO CAN'T MAKE ANYTHING EASY AND NOW ANIMAL CROSSING HAS 3 SEPARATE CREATOR CODES IN ONE GAME!! - 7887-2958-4922
I gotta update the school there, though. I've improved it since the start of the game.
I don't want to spoil the whole "plot" of this thing, so this is about where I'll cut it. Unless you hate designing in Animal Crossing and would rather play New Leaf for the life sim aspects, I'd say get the DLC if you have New Horizons. It's too good a value to pass up, and this comes from the guy who NEVER buys DLC.

I've also been playing Monkey Ball for the first time, btw. Basically...I hate it >.< It's torturous. How can anyone seriously play this? Sad thing is there's a kernel of decent gameplay here, but various insane decisions keep it from having any chance of being a good time. WHY does a game with such an insistence upon perfect movement have constant tight time limits???

Animal Crossing Direct

Well, I'm sure a few of you expect me to respond to it, but as of this moment, I'm unsure how to feel, honestly.
We did get nearly everything that was missing. More than I expected them to cover after how the game had been handled thus for. This is like, we spent almost 2 years with half a game, and now Nintendo is FINALLY releasing the other half...
Some things I thought for sure would be added are weirdly missing, however. No Dr. Shrunk, no DJ K.K. No Gracie. At least, at face value. I am wondering how much WASN'T shown after watching this Direct. That's part of why I'm not sure how to react.
Another reason is that it still kinda feels too late. Almost 2 years. I'm more than ready to move on. But they about to DRAG me in by my ankles. But how much do I really have to work towards? As we speak, I have ordered the FINAL art piece for my museum today. I'm about to 100% the museum for the first time ever. Will the new content be enough to invest me in the game? I dunno! Hopefully? There's some awesome stuff here.
Then they're adding paid DLC. Bit pricey to essentially get Happy Home Designer added to New Horizons... I might do it for youtube content. Dammit I need a capture card yesterday. Dammit. But yeah, I can only see getting it for youtube content. HHD bored the shit outta me.
The free content does look SUBSTANTIAL, though. So, I'm kinda like... I can't be MAD at Nintendo, I just think overall the content rollout could have been handled better. It took way too long to get here, too many droughts without much to do along the way...

The Most Perfect Finale of All Time
General | Posted 4 years agoMy friends... THE LEAK WAS TRUE!! SORA IS THE FINAL SMASH FIGHTER!! DHTCGRFYJCXGRFCVYJRGFVJCVHC AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
My boy made it, I started tearing up... I honestly thought it was just too good to ever happen... He was my #2 pick, the ONLY character I actually wanted as much as Tails, and he closes out the game. Words cannot express my emotions right now!
The full trailer is just, absolute perfection. It bookends Ultimate's reveal trailers awesomely. I also appreciate how the Mii costumes close out with Splatoon just as the game started with Splatoon (even though I don't care for Splatoon.) Also, you get Doomguy as a costume. He's almost Master Chief, eh? (...use your imagination?)
I do wish the game had better single-player modes, I've whined about not liking the changes to Classic and Adventure mode before... but with the roster finished, maybe I'll start just playing the main Smash mode just to play it now & then. And maybe I'll come to appreciate the game the way everyone else has... I have WANTED to, and Sora's arrival may be the nudge I need. (cuz unlike Banjo & Sonic, at least Kingdom Hearts is both still going and still good...at least to me)
Also Sakurai got to announce the entire KH series coming to the Switch. I legit never needed to buy a PS4 X"D I wonder if I'll pick it up again just to have it "handheld"...?
Well, I gotta wake up my bro & tell him about this! Funny, he wasn't up for Banjo, either. I think him sleeping through the reveals is good luck. He was still in school when Sonic got revealed, too.... >.>

There aren't many standard designs I made based on GeneX, but for Pro Designs we have 5 flags and 7 costumes for my OCs.
Of course, there's also a number of interesting designs you could find that were there all along, including some seasonal variants for Halloween & Christmas.
Anyway, I'm taking the GeneX designs down on the 27th. So, if you want 'em for any reason, look for 'em this week only.
(by the way, the Guard costume is incomplete without the green wings that Kicks sometimes sells. If it looks off, that's why, heh)

Thoughts on 14 Years of Sonic GeneX
General | Posted 5 years agoThere's simultaneously a lot to say, and not much at all. I think most is best left unsaid until the 15th anniversary next year. (Yes, the big speech where I curse out everyone who ever upset me in any way! lol kidding)
If you told me when I started writing in 2006 that I'd have turned this into a crazy expanded universe of stories that still wasn't quite finished in 2020... I might have gone out and got a job instead ^^; I'd be pissed especially to hear that I never finished my fangame trilogy. "I got the first game done in a year once I knew what I was doing! Why wasn't the trilogy done by 2009??" "Dude, it took you FIVE years to know what you were doing!"
...Yeah, if we get super-technical, I guess next year is the 20th Anniversary of GeneX, if I include the 5-year conceptualization period. Well, people don't usually count when an idea was conceived, just when it was released.
I tend to say I wouldn't change a thing about my life even if I could, though. I don't like the idea of becoming...NORMAL. I much prefer the kind of person I am. And if I never dove into the rabbit-hole of writing this stuff, I never would have met the truly amazing people I have known in my life. It is a bit sad for me that no one's REALLY interested in Sonic GeneX at all...at least to all appearances. But I have enjoyed the challenge of putting together this epic saga anyway, and if anyone does enjoy it in spite of most of it being porn-free, than maybe this isn't a waste of time.
...no, it totally is. I genuinely need a fucking job. Or for you guys to convince me that commissions are viable........or Patreon? Hmmm....

...Yeah, if we get super-technical, I guess next year is the 20th Anniversary of GeneX, if I include the 5-year conceptualization period. Well, people don't usually count when an idea was conceived, just when it was released.
I tend to say I wouldn't change a thing about my life even if I could, though. I don't like the idea of becoming...NORMAL. I much prefer the kind of person I am. And if I never dove into the rabbit-hole of writing this stuff, I never would have met the truly amazing people I have known in my life. It is a bit sad for me that no one's REALLY interested in Sonic GeneX at all...at least to all appearances. But I have enjoyed the challenge of putting together this epic saga anyway, and if anyone does enjoy it in spite of most of it being porn-free, than maybe this isn't a waste of time.
...no, it totally is. I genuinely need a fucking job. Or for you guys to convince me that commissions are viable........or Patreon? Hmmm....

Next week, the first chapter of Sonic GeneX: Doomsday will go up. Since I haven't hit my chapter goal for the year yet, this will be a stray post, but that's fine because the first chapter is almost like a special episode, being more standalone than the other chapters in the story.
This story is meant for people who have read every story up to this point, I'm just gonna say it point blank. I did put out "The Story Thus Far" as a primer, and I'm updating the character sheets on IB, but if you go into this story blind, it'd be like going into Kingdom Hearts 3 or Avengers Endgame blind. Not to scare people off, I just feel like fair warnings are in order. There's only so much I can do to catch readers up when I'm trying to end an epic 15 years in the making.

Now, these are the early levels, much more simplistic and even sloppy compared to my later uploads, but you can get an idea of what you're missing (he completely missed almost every secret in every one of those levels, though ^^; But I believe he was trying to speedrun.)

I've got close to 50 levels made but just like on these art sites, I will slow-drip uploading them so as not to use everything up and then not have anything to upload later and then go crazy because I'm out of ideas ^^; (I've already uploaded 5 levels this week to start us off, though)
...I'm rather depressed lately & am staving off the urge to throw a little rant down here. It might cheer me up a bit if someone I knew actually tried my levels...….but I know most people I know don't even own a Switch, so whatever, it's cool :/

General | Posted 7 years agoI'm hard at work on the game, I'll take at least 2 playthroughs to ensure it's finished. (for those who forgot, I'm working on prepping my old fangame, "Tails the Fox", to make it available for public download.)
If you read through my first fanfic, you know the stages. But that fic is over a decade old. So, a quick refresher is in order, as well as maybe some insight into the game version of the stages... Spoilers kept minimal, but the whole fanfic version is on the site so, yeah...
Hero Story Stages
1. Danger St. - Station Square is under siege by Eggman, and Tails hurries to rescue Amy from his clutches! The first stage is fairly simple, but creates a sense of danger as you traverse the fire-covered city streets.
2. Lava Glacier - The Master Emerald is missing! Knuckles' search draws him to a hollowed-out glacier atop a volcanic island crater. He must traverse ice and lava while helping the mysterious sorceress Gemini, who is trapped in dragon form.
3. Glitter Casino - Having learned Eggman is up to no good, Sonic teams up with Tails to track down a Chaos Emerald in this casino built on the ruins of Casinopolis. Gold rings dot the landscape, perfect for the light speed dash.
4. EggmanEmpire.com - A cyberspace level where Knuckles hunts for information. Narrow mazelike paths branch in various directions, and somewhere, Eggman's viral feline Firepaw lies in wait to put a stop to hackers.
5. Aqua Isle - Sonic's friends fall into a trap, and Sonic must traverse a tropical island in order to rescue them. GUN and Eggman join forces to get in his way, but Sonic can harness Chaos Control to jump from island to island...
6. Chaos Shrine - Tails follows his doppelganger, Copter, into this ancient shrine. It is filled with Chaos-like monsters, and deep pits. Fortunately, the Tornado can get inside to help him cross the chasms and give chase.
7. Shadow Arc - Knuckles was supposed to meet Gemini here to exchange info, but she's gone missing in the dark, creepy lab. Lost Ones haunt the halls, and Knuckles has a foreboding feeling as he searches for his hapless friend...
8. Under Construction - Eggman has taken Cream hostage at this construction site! With a plan hatched by Tails, Sonic races to the rescue, walking narrow paths and zipping across pits with the light dash.
9. Forest of Dreams - Tails finds himself lost in this winding, confusing forest, Tikal guiding him. Explore, and you'll find the Dream Temple, where Tails must face his fears and come to terms with what he must do...
10. Metal Heights - Sonic arrives at Eggman's base, wasting no time seeking to end the doctor's schemes as he reaches a sector filled with pits and ring trails.
11. Chao Chambers - The Master Emerald is hidden in Eggman's Chao Garden. It is heavily guarded, but Knuckles and Rouge are in a race to find the Emerald before Punchy & Rainbow. The means to restore Gemini to her true form may also be near...
12. Darkegg Fortress - Tails hurries to aid his friends, climbing to the top of Eggman's tower and facing monsters and robots on the way. Dangerous challenges await him...can Tails prevail?
Dark Story Stages
1. Death Row - Copter is broken out of an island prison by Metal Sonic. (island prison, real original, 2BIT :/ ) As you make your escape, you must locate a Chaos Emerald...but beware the prison's new Guard...he has quite the temper.
2. Hidden Ruins - Despite wanting to race after the Master Emerald, Punchy is dragged on a detour to Station Square, where he finds himself in an underground ruin and meets Rainbow. Begrudgingly, he helps search for the relic keys to her house...
3. Shadow Arc - Unsure what to do after defeating the Black Arms (story dated ^^;), Shadow wanders through a fog and discovers this dark laboratory. Mystery before him, Shadow sets out to uncover the secrets of this place.
4. Security Tower - Punchy & Copter are sent by Eggman to a secure GUN tower, where they must acquire a Chaos Emerald. Too bad the Lost Ones have invaded the tower, and have barred the way with ghostly flames, forcing a ghost hunt...
5. Blizzard Warzone - Shadow finds himself at the icy summit of Aqua Isle, where he hears that "Sonic" freed a prisoner from GUN captivity. He races through an icy battleground of Eggman and GUN forces, looking to hear the truth from Sgt. Gunner.
6. Chaos Shrine - Copter opens this shrine in order to find the Chaos Tailbands. He'll have to contend with the shrine's guardians, including one sealed since the ancient past...
7. GUN Warship - Eggman sends Punchy aboard a biplane called the Hurricane to land on this warship and stop it from attacking his base. He must shut down the power bit by bit, all while his own darkness is growing, threatening to take control of him...
8. Android Assault - Shadow wants to talk to Eggman, but GUN has landed on his base, and will make that difficult. Shadow heads to the basement to delay GUN's invasion, but he needs the keys to Eggman's base to make progress through the cavernous area.
9. Space Prison - Copter lands on Space Colony ARK to complete his secret mission. He has no time to enjoy the starry view as he rushes to meet his destiny...but is it his final destiny?
10. Egg Maze - Shadow is asked to take down Eggman. The time has come to confront the doctor... He heads for a maze where the only way forward is Chaos Control. This won't delay him...but a certain blue hedgehog might...
11. Chao Chambers - Punchy & Rainbow race Knuckles to find the Master Emerald. All the while, the darkness in Punchy is reaching its peak. Will he do something he can't take back upon facing Knuckles? Is it his fate to be a dark one?
12. Darkegg Fortress - Copter must face Tails to put his nature as a clone behind him. He hurries to the top of Eggman's tower... There's just the little matter of Eggman, who doesn't take kindly to betrayal...
Last Story
Our heroes converge on a single location, where a final threat emerges, forcing them to band together and even join forces with Eggman and Sgt. Gunner! Destiny will thrust Tails with the burden of defeating this darkness... Can the young fox do it?
Bonus Game!
After clearing the game, a bonus game unlocks, featuring 30 more short "chapters" to play through based on GeneX - A New Beginning and GeneX - Soleanna Struggle. My OCs are the main focus in the bonus game, and you gain the ability to play as Guard the Gargoyle and Gemini the Fennec (her true form's not really a spoiler if you're watching me, is it?), and encounter characters not in the main game such as Eggman Nega, the Babylon Rogues, and Mephiles the Dark!

There's more, too! In the hub world, you can find BIT Squad HQ, Byte Space! Talk to 2BIT there, and the story activates. Then, you can find members of BIT Squad in various stages you've cleared. Complete missions for them to earn useful items and possibly unlock even more special goodies!

Remaking the Fangame (for download?)
General | Posted 7 years agoSo, yes, as I said in my last journal, I'm gonna remake my Sonic fangames, hopefully for download this time. It's gonna be quite a task to get them up to snuff for the general public; I'd only ever designed them for private use. I've worried about using official content in a game I put online, but Sega seems pretty cool with Sonic fangames... I am unsure about using the actual Sonic music, though, idk. What do you guys think? Think I'd get in trouble? I'm not gonna be making money off it...
I'm also concerned about non-Sonic content in the game. It may not have been in the fanfic, but a few Nintendo elements were sprinkled throughout the game, because I could. Also some Star Wars. I'm 90% sure I'm gonna cut all the Star Wars references. It's a bit harder to cut the Nintendo stuff, though... they were involved in optional boss fights, you see (among other things). But if I would get in trouble for including it, I figure I better cut it... I'm looking for opinions here.
Anyway, I'm also considering efforts to make the art more consistent throughout the game, but idk... I'd need a lot of spriting done for that, and I'm not willing to do it myself. Gotta determine what sprite work really has to get done, I guess. I definitely need a new Title screen. If anyone deigns to help me with spritework, I'll include you in the credits, which will be accessible at the start of the game as well as presented at the end. (wanna make sure anyone contributing gets their due, right?)
I'm only just starting this weekend, and for the time being I'll be working on it only on the weekends, so it will be a while before it's done even though I'm basically editing what I already made. I'll let you guys know the specifics of any help I need and any details about how I'll go about sharing the finished game when I know this stuff, but if you're interested in helping, you can also contact me directly.

In some ways, I wonder if it was a mistake to stick around online all the way until my birthday. Well, it wasn't a mistake to be here with my handful of best friends. I'll miss you guys, deeply. I'll miss a lot of you very much.
But, yes, I am leaving you all as of today. If you happened to have any gift art for me or something, I may still catch it before I officially log off for the year. Also, I will be checking in via my 3DS, dropping favs perhaps, but I will not be commenting. No typing, for my health. I will be back briefly in January to post a chapter of Chaos Hearts, and then a bit more active in February, and fully back to posting in March. (I'm gonna miss out on posting on Valentine's Day due to the break :( )
I hope 2019 is less stressful for me overall. I really have to thank my friends, you all got me through the tough times this year. I can't repay you all enough, so I hope my eternal friendship works ^^; (I'm so sappy)

Haha... I give a month's warning because honestly... >.> <.< I wish my friends would, so I'd have enough time to make them gift-stories. :p It's not easy to get someone something on short notice ^^; (especially when you're always broke...)
Also I will be dropping off the face of the interwebs for around 2 months after my birthday, to look after my carpal tunnel/tendonitis/cranky hurty arms that occurred from writing TOO MUCH this year ^^; So, you got a month to say your goodbyes. Don't worry about if you're gonna gift me something for my birthday and it's a little late, I might check for a couple days afterwards just in case. And anyway, I will be back. I'll be fully active again come...March. Partly active in February. Pop in briefly to post something in January :3 You'll hardly miss me XD (well, I can think of a couple people that may miss me terribly, awww... wish I could stay for them but my arms, owwww ;-; )

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is unveiled! The roster is known. The freaking box theory along with Vergeben were right... which means K. Rool, Daisy, Richter, Chrom and Dark Samus were the only characters not leaked from the base roster. Fuck leakers man. Fuck the damn Grinch for getting peoples' hopes so high, too.
I want to open this by talking about Spirits. I feel there is a great deal of confusion as to what Spirits even are. Well, there is the plot explanation, which I will surely get into, but let's focus on the gameplay aspect. Spirits replaces: Equipment, Stickers AND Trophies. None of those things are back in Ultimate, but Spirits kind of fills the role of all 3. They are collectible characters (trophies), in GIF form (stickers), that are equippable (err, equipment). There is a bit more to them than even that, and people wonder if Spirits deconfirm characters for DLC. I will say that's POSSIBLE, but it would leave DLC options disgustingly limited. So we'd get like, Banjo, Geno, and Goku I guess. And that's assuming none of them have stealthily snuck in as Spirits, too! Rabbid Peach and Shantae are Spirits, so yeah, Banjo could even be!

So we got Ken & Incineroar... who literally nobody wanted, really. Then we got a freaking Piranha Plant, and no, it doesn't TURN INTO Petey Piranha for the Final Smash, I watched, the Piranha Plant is still running around separate from Petey. So, yeah, we legit have a standard Mario enemy. RIP any serious character's chances of getting into Smash now, yeah? I mean, this is a big middle finger from Sakurai to Waluigi fans, Bomberman fans, SHADOW fans... anyone who was confirmed as an assist. Oh, yeah... Shadow is right up there with Waluigi now. Guess he's there to stay. My man Knux probably has a better playable shot in Smash 6 due to Shadow's Assist legacy.
But it's sad, really. Isaac, Black Knight, Springman, Skull Kid (check the website), Dr. Wily (Mega-Man is totally boned, huh?)... all assist. What is even left for DLC? I mean, besides Banjo, Geno, and god willing, Tails :3 (I'm trying not to gloat, Shadow fans, I really am. I sincerely hope you at least get a Mii costume because Sakurai trolled you hard this year)

Quick look at the rest of the direct. You can...buy the Challenges prizes? I don't have to give up if a challenge is legit impossible and the Golden Hammer doesn't work? (please, Sakurai, let that be the case) And music is still unlockable, YES! Sonic could get more tracks! Final Fantasy could...eh, probably not if it starts with 2... Mii costumes are back, too, and it appears the DLC costumes from Smash 4 may be back. But if they hold back on some, could they be planned as DLC fighters? (Look, I better either get Tails actually playable or as a costume, Sakurai. Don't be a total dick, man!)
DLC has 5 character + stage sets coming. Sooo... the 108 stages was technically right? (I won't give Corocoro the credit, though) This does make the odds of a season 2 pass look low, though...seeing that the stage select screen will perfectly fill out...
All Star is now a form of Multi-Man Smash. Home-Run Contest and Break the Targets seem gone altogether. Spirits seems to replace both Events and Master Orders in a sense, which...might be better, honestly.
Online means nothing to me now that we have to pay for it. Shame, it looks promising this time...
There is a lot to unpack with the whole Direct, and I just can't cover everything. But we must talk about THAT THING...

Adventure Mode: World of Light!! Masahiro Sakurai, you insane, glorious bastard! HOW, with all the leaks springing all over creation, HOW in the name of Iwata did you ever keep this a secret!? I have to applaud the man, this reveal got me back on board with the game after Kencineroar and the loss of trophies left me battered and defeated. Voice acted cutscenes?? A HUGE dynamic world map? Boss battles? Spirits integrated into the plot?? SIGN ME THE HELL UP!
The only downside is... I had to watch everything I love die in the most gut-wrenching scene I have ever witnessed in media (take that, Infinity War... I cannnot believe Infinity War is so outmatched so immediately o_O) Of course fucking Kirby survives by deus ex machina that makes no sense... Sakurai bias is totally a thing. If it were Mario I'd say "Well, duh, Nintendo would start you with Mario." I didn't see this until like, the fourth time I watched it, because the moment gut-punches me so much and I can barely even watch, but it seems Sonic actually slowed down trying to save Pikachu. My hero stopped to try and save my main, and I had to watch both incinerated at once. Powerful stuff, I don't know if I'll be okay. In retrospect...kinda glad Tails missed the base roster....don't think I could take WATCHING him die. ;-;
But this has me more fired up for a game campaign than ever before. Challenge accepted, Sakurai, you monster!! You killed all my friends, but I will save their souls! Sonic! Tails! Squirtle! Pit! Link! Fox! Yoshi! Krystal! Cordelia (possibly)! Silver! And all my other beloved friends turned Spirts! I will find you and save you!! They won't get away with this! *stands at a cliff edge in a dramatic, heroic pose!*

The Grinch Leak (Spoilers for Smash Ultimate)

...I'd buy your leak more if you'd... bothered including Craaaaash!
Okay, let's get serious now. ^^; Spoilers ahead, because... Let's face it, this leak is 99% real. The chances of it turning out fake are sadly slim to none. And that's sad for poor Mr. Sakurai. The effort he put into trying to avoid leaks, to the point people at Nintendo itself were surprised by the E3 "Everyone is Here" trailer, but in the end... we wind up with probably the biggest leak in Smash history. Everyone involved should be at least a bit ashamed. The man puts everything into these games, and we can't give him the satisfaction of being the one to unveil it? I wouldn't blame Sakurai for quitting without bothering to do DLC, at this point. And if that happens, it would be the fanbase's own fault for spreading leaks. (I'm aware of the irony of saying this and spreading it myself, but it's everywhere if you search Smash Bros at all. There comes a point where you can't do any more damage anymore)
That said, while I'm pretty much Team Real only to avoid looking like an idiot later... There are things about this leak that really don't sit right with me. I could see it being fake, more than most people, but I have to tell myself it's wishful thinking due to the absence of my top two wanted characters. However, there are other things that bug me about it, and I'm going to take a minute to ask the questions most people don't want to ask because of how much they want five out of seven of those characters...
First, right off the bat, seven? That's a lot to reveal a month or less before release. That's never happened. The ESRB Smash 4 leak revealed, what, three? Four? Uhh... Shulk, Bowser Jr, Duck Hunt and... I wanna say Dr. Mario. I think there were just, like, three characters not revealed prior to Brawl's release, too. (Wolf and Toon Link I seem to recall). And you think Sakurai saved seven for last? I could buy it maybe if more of them were echo fighters... but only two are. And let's get into those choices...
They're pretty wishlisty, that's been brought up by debunkers of this leak. Although, I'd argue not wishlisty enough if we're going by the ballot. Where's Bandana Dee? I saw a poll that had him at number 2 for Japan, and I think only a veteran fighter was ahead of him! How are you gonna not have Japan's most wanted newcomer?? DLC maybe, sure, you could however argue that Ridley would sell TONS of DLC, too, possibly more. I don't buy it. And also, every leaker has had Incineroar for quite a while. Seems pretty odd... though to me, not so much with there being no Pokemon stage.
Speaking of stages, would everyone stop assuming Sakurai was lying about 103, and Corocoro didn't make a mistake? I mean, if that scenario is right, then we have to assume Sakurai is always a bold-faced liar going forward... That's a pretty ugly situation in my eyes.
But, back to the topic, and this is where I'm really gonna dig into the leak so turn back now if spoilers concern you. Though, you have had several paragraphs. Ready? Okay, just listen to this. Mach Rider. Seriously, Mach Rider. Who in god's name voted for Mach Rider? I can believe Isabelle, even, but Mach Rider? How old are the people voting, 40? How many 40 year olds were voting? Why Mach Rider and not Takamaru, for a retro rep, answer me that? Why not Balloon Fighter? Excitebike? Why doesn't Simon Belmont count as the retro rep, even? This is a part that really bugs me. Duck Hunt, Dr. Mario and ROB were all pretty recognizable retro reps...they were even grouped together in the Everyone is Here trailer. Nobody even knows Mach Rider's gender!
Again, I am Team Real. The whole presentation and story surrounding the leak is just impossible to disprove. And Sakurai is a certifiable moron in is semi-old age. Remember Smash Tour. Never forget. (I also completely hated the roster of Smash 4 in retrospect) I'm just trying to cling to some notion of logic...I'm just afraid that there is no logic here.
Geno is so tiny on that image, you can't even really make him out in the cleaned-up version of it. That also bugs me. Why not take a clear picture in 2018? The ESRB leak was clearer than this, though still blurry. But yeah, it WAS clearer. You could clearly see what everything was. People are claiming to see Skull Kid and KOS-MOS or whatever in the blurry parts of the Grinch leak. It's bothersome how NOT clear the image is...
Now there are 4 Chorus Men, too. Ooookay... I mean, Sakurai can do whatever he wants, but... I mean, a triple/quadruple character kinda makes the Ice Climbers feel less special, doesn't it? As does another flat character, making Mr. Game & Watch feel less special... Everything about the Chorus Men just feels out of place to me...
We all agree that Ken is in, though. I was theorizing that offline before it was cool. Though, I also play devil's advocate with it... As obvious an Echo as it is, who the hell voted for Ken before Ryu?? Maybe I'm mistaken about when the ballot was running and when Ryu was announced, but I thought the ballot started before Ryu was announced. Well, if I'm wrong then yeah, he was surely voted in...as dumb as it is to vote for a clone...dumb Shadow fanboys. He's an echo, you dipshits! He might have ONE of his own moves but that'll be it! And you know what, I don't think he even will, I think he'll be just like Dark Samus. He'll have his own animations but COMPLETELY the same moves as Sonic. Even the dumb spring! (maybe looking more modern, but yeah)
Lastly we have Banjo and Isaac. Those are the REALLY wish-listy choices. If the leak is real, Banjo is now my main, but I will be disappointed by one- this being leaked and not being surprised, and two- most likely not getting a stage for Banjo-Kazooie. Because I don't buy the 108 stages thing. Having just 5 unlockable stages...what would be the point? (I think one would be Monster Hunter rather than Mach Rider, though) I've been saying Isaac was unlikely all this time due to Nintendo clearly not wanting to make any more Golden Sun games, but I'm now sitting here thinking Kid Icarus, Earthbound, King K. Rool... Wii Fit Trainer just for an example of something stupid... So, yeah, another anime swordsman. Yeah! After Ken, I'm sure Isaac is in. Really, aside from a couple characters, this roster is pretty plausible...
It's just too much. It doesn't look good. There really isn't a reason for the background to be altered, either, looking at the debunking videos. I won't even talk about the name half-crossed off because that may not have ANYTHING to do with who took the picture. The Grinch content does point to the pictures being taken at a place of business that prints such things... Someone who works at such a place COULD go to a lot of trouble to design a very elaborate fake leak, I mean we've seen some insane shit just this year. I want to believe it's fake, because if Shadow is in, I gotta face it that the battle to get Tails as DLC will be pretty much insurmountable. It'd be easier to aim for a Tails + Shadow DLC two-pack, or easier to campaign for just Shadow with Tails in the base game. But this situation dashes my hopes held for as long as the EGM hoax has existed (15+ years!)...and those hopes might be dead forever if that's the case.
So, this is why I have begun trying to figure out how to campaign for Tails as DLC. It's really heartbreaking to watch so many characters get in, several incredibly undeserving like Wii Fit Trainer, maybe Mach Rider, Corrin, Bayonetta, Richter, etc... but an icon like Tails has to toil running loops in the background of a stage...forever. I'm not trying to take it away from you if your character is in. If you love Wii Fit Trainer, good for you. But how long must I wait for my character? It's not like I want something silly like Silver or Rattata or King Boo.... I'm not even asking for a character from a game not in Smash yet like Rayman or Shantae or Maxwell from Scribblenauts. I'm asking for the player two of the one third party franchise that has been in Smash the longest, and has been in the most games with Mario, too. (Olympics, remember?) Why is this so unreasonable? (By the way, those characters I mentioned would all be cool to have in Smash... Though I think Rattata would be a Poke Ball Pokemon lol)
So... I'm hoping the Grinch has not stolen the hype. It'd be cool to get some of those characters anyway, but the leak prove fake. I will continue to hope and plead and beg for Tails to get his shot.

Okay, let's get serious now. ^^; Spoilers ahead, because... Let's face it, this leak is 99% real. The chances of it turning out fake are sadly slim to none. And that's sad for poor Mr. Sakurai. The effort he put into trying to avoid leaks, to the point people at Nintendo itself were surprised by the E3 "Everyone is Here" trailer, but in the end... we wind up with probably the biggest leak in Smash history. Everyone involved should be at least a bit ashamed. The man puts everything into these games, and we can't give him the satisfaction of being the one to unveil it? I wouldn't blame Sakurai for quitting without bothering to do DLC, at this point. And if that happens, it would be the fanbase's own fault for spreading leaks. (I'm aware of the irony of saying this and spreading it myself, but it's everywhere if you search Smash Bros at all. There comes a point where you can't do any more damage anymore)
That said, while I'm pretty much Team Real only to avoid looking like an idiot later... There are things about this leak that really don't sit right with me. I could see it being fake, more than most people, but I have to tell myself it's wishful thinking due to the absence of my top two wanted characters. However, there are other things that bug me about it, and I'm going to take a minute to ask the questions most people don't want to ask because of how much they want five out of seven of those characters...
First, right off the bat, seven? That's a lot to reveal a month or less before release. That's never happened. The ESRB Smash 4 leak revealed, what, three? Four? Uhh... Shulk, Bowser Jr, Duck Hunt and... I wanna say Dr. Mario. I think there were just, like, three characters not revealed prior to Brawl's release, too. (Wolf and Toon Link I seem to recall). And you think Sakurai saved seven for last? I could buy it maybe if more of them were echo fighters... but only two are. And let's get into those choices...
They're pretty wishlisty, that's been brought up by debunkers of this leak. Although, I'd argue not wishlisty enough if we're going by the ballot. Where's Bandana Dee? I saw a poll that had him at number 2 for Japan, and I think only a veteran fighter was ahead of him! How are you gonna not have Japan's most wanted newcomer?? DLC maybe, sure, you could however argue that Ridley would sell TONS of DLC, too, possibly more. I don't buy it. And also, every leaker has had Incineroar for quite a while. Seems pretty odd... though to me, not so much with there being no Pokemon stage.
Speaking of stages, would everyone stop assuming Sakurai was lying about 103, and Corocoro didn't make a mistake? I mean, if that scenario is right, then we have to assume Sakurai is always a bold-faced liar going forward... That's a pretty ugly situation in my eyes.
But, back to the topic, and this is where I'm really gonna dig into the leak so turn back now if spoilers concern you. Though, you have had several paragraphs. Ready? Okay, just listen to this. Mach Rider. Seriously, Mach Rider. Who in god's name voted for Mach Rider? I can believe Isabelle, even, but Mach Rider? How old are the people voting, 40? How many 40 year olds were voting? Why Mach Rider and not Takamaru, for a retro rep, answer me that? Why not Balloon Fighter? Excitebike? Why doesn't Simon Belmont count as the retro rep, even? This is a part that really bugs me. Duck Hunt, Dr. Mario and ROB were all pretty recognizable retro reps...they were even grouped together in the Everyone is Here trailer. Nobody even knows Mach Rider's gender!
Again, I am Team Real. The whole presentation and story surrounding the leak is just impossible to disprove. And Sakurai is a certifiable moron in is semi-old age. Remember Smash Tour. Never forget. (I also completely hated the roster of Smash 4 in retrospect) I'm just trying to cling to some notion of logic...I'm just afraid that there is no logic here.
Geno is so tiny on that image, you can't even really make him out in the cleaned-up version of it. That also bugs me. Why not take a clear picture in 2018? The ESRB leak was clearer than this, though still blurry. But yeah, it WAS clearer. You could clearly see what everything was. People are claiming to see Skull Kid and KOS-MOS or whatever in the blurry parts of the Grinch leak. It's bothersome how NOT clear the image is...
Now there are 4 Chorus Men, too. Ooookay... I mean, Sakurai can do whatever he wants, but... I mean, a triple/quadruple character kinda makes the Ice Climbers feel less special, doesn't it? As does another flat character, making Mr. Game & Watch feel less special... Everything about the Chorus Men just feels out of place to me...
We all agree that Ken is in, though. I was theorizing that offline before it was cool. Though, I also play devil's advocate with it... As obvious an Echo as it is, who the hell voted for Ken before Ryu?? Maybe I'm mistaken about when the ballot was running and when Ryu was announced, but I thought the ballot started before Ryu was announced. Well, if I'm wrong then yeah, he was surely voted in...as dumb as it is to vote for a clone...dumb Shadow fanboys. He's an echo, you dipshits! He might have ONE of his own moves but that'll be it! And you know what, I don't think he even will, I think he'll be just like Dark Samus. He'll have his own animations but COMPLETELY the same moves as Sonic. Even the dumb spring! (maybe looking more modern, but yeah)
Lastly we have Banjo and Isaac. Those are the REALLY wish-listy choices. If the leak is real, Banjo is now my main, but I will be disappointed by one- this being leaked and not being surprised, and two- most likely not getting a stage for Banjo-Kazooie. Smash Speculation 2; Vs. Popular Opinion
General | Posted 7 years agoSo, there's an unexpected news lull on account of earthquake. Very sad. People dead. If you're one of those people pissed about the delay of the Nintendo Direct, get a life. (yeah, people were seriously pissed about that.)
So, in the spirit of getting a life (lol yeah right) I thought I'd take a look at some of the popular character predictions for Smash Bros. Ultimate and weigh in on how likely I think they ACTUALLY are...
(and just to keep this fresh, I will try to avoid mentioning Shadow or Tails. I do think we have the best odds ever of getting a new Sonic rep this time, but enough with this can of worms. You're all annoyed by it if you read my journals ^^;)
So, let's start with the one that inexplicably rose to highest prominence in the last month...
Skull Kid - I honestly never thought Skull Kid was very popular, I always thought he was well-liked but not someone people were super-interested in playing as (not like Tetra or Midna or hell, Impa after Hyrule Warriors). After hearing a lot of arguments, I could honestly see it going either way. Skull Kid HAS to be in the game, you can't just replace him with the moon... So he's either playable or... Maybe a boss? Gotta say, I'd be pretty hyped for a Skull Kid boss fight. Zelda didn't get a proper boss in Subspace, so getting one in the new mode might be something to expect. 50/50, he's either playable or a boss.
Bandana Waddle Dee - This one is huge in Japan, I can seriously see it getting in, at least in some form. Playable? Seems like kind of a small reveal for this close to release. Bandana Dee would have been more appropriate for the August Direct, wouldn't he? That's about the only thing making me think no, though. That and maybe Sakurai just doesn't see making a Waddle Dee playable. People genuinely want Waluigi and that isn't happening, either.
Isaac/Lloyd Irving - I group these two together as I view them both as fitting the role of "generic anime swordfighter from a niche, kinda-dead franchise." Isaac is heavily requested, while Lloyd got a Mii costume. But are either of them relevant or interesting enough to be added to the roster? Yeah, yeah, K Rool... Guys, Nintendo owns K Rool and he is part of the fricking Donkey Kong franchise. You can't compare his case to these guys. Donkey Kong Country will always be more important to Nintendo than Golden Sun or Tales of Whatever. I honestly doubt them quite a bit as playable. Assist trophy, maybe. Lots of desired characters wound up Assist Trophies...
Banjo-Kazooie - I would like to believe, but no. DLC at best. I am in the camp that believes when Sakurai said 103 stages, he meant 103 stages and that's the whole base game. 3rd party characters generally HAVE to come with a stage, and to get Banjo without a stage would frankly be insulting. Especially when they spent development time remaking 10,000 Yoshi stages. I will refer you to this argument for a few other characters, too. Believe me, I'd like to be wrong and see both Banjo and more actual new stages, but I don't think so...
Rayman - look above. Also Brawlhalla.
Shantae - see Banjo. I do believe she deserves something, though, especially in light of Shovel Knight's inclusion. But Indies might be restricted to Assist Trophies at best.
Monster Hunter - Probably would have been shown already, honestly. Maybe? Doubtful.
Isabelle - I think yes. If not back as Assist Trophy, yes. Isabelle is too important to Animal Crossing to not have in the game. She was playable in Mario Kart. She has TWO Amiibo (how many non-Smash, non-Mario characters can boast two?). She'd work as a Villager echo (with some comical animation adjustments). Sure, probably. Or back as Assist. WE HAVE NOT SEEN ALL ASSISTS, GUYS...
Ken - I also think yes here. They went to the trouble of making Ryu face his opponent in one-on-one fights. Why go to that effort for one fighter only? I bet Ken is gonna do that too, enabling a genuine Street Fighter match in Smash. Also, echo.
Heiachi - Mmmmaybe... As a fighting game character, maybe he doesn't need a stage because Smash IS a fighting game? Also, Namco could get special exceptions seeing as they're making the game. I'd say low chance, but possible...
Sora - Really low chance, but again I wanna believe. Sora could get in with no stages because his whole thing is visiting other worlds anyway. But the whole Disney legal hurdle... I doubt Sora very much.
Any Pokemon rep - I say nay! We got Pichu, Squirtle and Ivysaur! Plus female Pokemon Trainer! Sakurai has worked overtime to give us Pokemon goodness already! (and echo fighters don't exactly work with Pokemon so that screws that notion over) If we do get a new Pokemon, I can see people complain about too many Pokemon just like Fire Emblem. Only Mario should get a bazillion characters.
Geno - It's up to Square, honestly. If Square lets Sakurai do it, then Geno is 100% in. But Final Fantasy still has only 2 music tracks... Eeep, Square be stingy!
Chorus Kids - Does anyone genuinely want this?? No, guys... no.
Minecraft Steve; Sans; Goku - Fuck no.
Dixie Kong - Very plausible. I've heard Diddy's tail attack has been removed? If this is true, Dixie is probably an echo.
Xenoblade rep - Errrr, hmmm... I put it at 40% chance. Don't know much about it but eh, Shulk is in.
Black Knight - Assist/Boss maybe? Do you REALLY want another Fire Emblem swordfighter?
And lastly.... Waluigi.... I feel you, guys. I low-key want Waluigi at this point too, but he's in the Assist Trophy graveyard. It's no "trick", there's no shenanigans, there's no character that will be both an Assist and Playable... Waluigi is just deliberately left off as that one imperfection to make sure Smash always has room to improve. Also, his Final Smash, Waa-pocalypse, would be far too OP.
Well, those are my thoughts on a lot of heavily speculated characters. No way in hell they all get in, we're getting like, maybe 8 more characters at most. If we're lucky. (For the base game)

Smash Speculation via Mii Costumes
General | Posted 7 years agoAll right, so people are now looking more and more at the Mii Costumes when thinking about Smash Ultimate characters that could be in the game. I'll tell you, I was thinking about that pretty much from the moment the Inklings were revealed, though that was mainly because of a certain costume character I obviously neeeeed. I even made a list of most of the costumes shortly after E3... though I noticed some may be missing from the eShop? So my list may be incomplete. But I've decided to go through all those costume characters and speculate on what role I think they WILL play in the game...because at this point I think, barring a couple 3rd party costumes, all of those characters WILL be used in Ultimate in some form.
Now according to my research, the Smash Bros. fighter ballot, which is also heavily influencing Ultimate apparently, started on April 1st 2015 (wow, really?) and ended in October. Mewtwo released later that month(in April), and was clearly planned well before that along with Lucas, so I want to stress that the DLC was not ALL ABOUT Ultimate, loosen your tinfoil hat a bit and think about this. It is possible that the DLC after the first wave was influenced by the ballot...but very unlikely that the first wave was. That said, I'm going through all the character costumes anyway, even the ones in the game pre-DLC.
So, let's start there...
Barbara the bat - Hat included, previously an assist trophy... however, she hasn't been important in some time as far as I know. Best odds - Assist Trophy.
Chain Chomp - obviously, best odds - Assist Trophy.
Daisy - Oh, look, echo fighter confirmed!
Mario, Luigi, Meta Knight, Peach, Zelda, Shiek, Wario - yeah, veterens. Listed for completeness.

Majora's Mask - This is where it becomes a discussion. Wave 1 clearly predates the Smash Ballot's completion. Okay, it came out right about the time Bayonetta was apparently selected according to dataminers, buuuut... the stuff within wave 1 had to be created a little beforehand. That's why several safe picks are here like Link and a version of Mega Man. And...this isn't a full Skull Kid costume either. Granted, I expect the mask to be attached to Skull Kid, but playable? Ahead of Midna, Tetra, Impa or Tingle (Tingle being popular in Japan)? This is doubtful to me, especially as Skull Kid isn't echo material. The Ramblin Evil Mushroom doesn't deconfirm his assist trophy, after all Shadow coexisted with the timer for ten years. Also, I have this curious notion that Young Link's unseen final smash could also incorporate Skull Kid in some way, being that final smashes are highly cinematic and look, most of the costumes in this wave serve that very same purpose... But yeah, most likely I'd say assist trophy. We haven't seen all the returning ones revealed yet.

Inkling Squid / Inkling - kinda the same thing; obviously fully playable newcomer. Would have likely been added with or without the ballot.
Mega Man.exe - Again, already part of Mega Man's final smash in Smash 4, a safe pick.
Zero - Assist Trophy (damn I really thought he'd get in) The ballot may have started to influence DLC costumes with wave 2, hence Zero rather than Bass?
Jacky & Akira - I'm grouping them, why not, Sega did in All Stars Racing. As such, I can see them as a duo Assist Trophy much like Kat & Ana (or the Latios & Latias Poke Ball). I don't think this series is quite popular enough to warrant a fighter, certainly not more than other Sega franchises...though being a fighting game it might have gotten more votes than say, Samba de Amigo.
Heihachi - Now, this one I know Sakurai wants. I think even in spite of there being no more new stages, we could see him playable. Bandai Namco certainly deserves another rep, seeing as they're MAKING the game, so getting a character with no stage might not be impossible. He could also be DLC... but I don't imagine DLC is decided yet; there wasn't launch day DLC for Smash 4 and I don't expect any for Ultimate.
Isabelle - If she's not an assist still, I think she's a lock for a Villager echo. Maybe a couple moves will be different to reflect her nature, but Isabelle is too important to Animal Crossing to just cut entirely. (and Animal Crossing is too important to Nintendo to do that, too.)
Wave 3
K.K. Slider - Saturday night stage element on Animal Crossing stages. That's unlikely to change.
Lloyd Irving - I...don't honestly know. I know nothing about this franchise. I guess if Bayonetta could be playable so could this guy. Could also be an assist. I can't really give an educated guess on him...
Black Knight - oh, hell, he could be a boss but I'd rather he wasn't. I picture him as a new Fire Emblem assist trophy...one that you can KO, but not easily due to his armor. I fully expect to see him.
Chrom - Well, well, you got your chance. RIP Celica, though I'm not mad. (but seriously there better not be more Fire Emblem characters playable >:( )
Flying Man - Magicant. I don't think anyone voted for this guy. Even at wave 3, I think some of the costume picks were separate from the ballot...
King K. Rool - But this guy! No way the ballot didn't influence this guy! King K. Rool is literal proof of the Smash Ballot, both here and in his confirmation for Ultimate! XD

Monster Hunter - ummm... While it certainly COULD happen, I find it suspect that he wasn't revealed with the dragon. Honestly, I expect him to be a regular trophy at best. It's the monsters that are iconic, not the hunter.
Viridi - A week ago I would have said no. She's too big on her stage. Then I took a look at the stage on the website. She's shrunk for some reason! She looks easier to remove if she were to be played as on the stage...and she might work as an echo for Palutena. I'll give this a maybe. Not my favorite pick from Kid Icarus but eh...Sakurai bias.
Toad - Well... he's not so much of a meat shield anymore. Is that enough? All in all wave 4 is kind of the loser wave...aside from wave 6 which you'd think would be the winner considering it dropped AFTER Ultimate was planned out...
Wave 5
Literally just Chocobo and Geno. (maybe the lack of costumes for this wave had a bit to do with Geno getting a splash screen?) I can see Chocobo as an assist. Geno feels like a guarantee at this point with the ballot and the fanservice picks we've seen so far.
Wave 5 dropped right around the time Sakurai completed the project plan for Ultimate. So, by that point he'd already negotiated probably all of the remaining costumes with the 3rd parties while he was working on/thinking about the project plan. He may have even negotiated to use the Chocobo and Geno in Ultimate at the same time as for the Smash 4 costumes, who knows! The timing is pretty damn convenient...and this also gives a bit of hope for the last couple costumes we have to cover...
Wave 6
Gil - I have literally no idea who this guy is, where he comes from, or what. He's owned by Capcom...or was it Namco? Gah, I get those guys mixed up. He seems pretty much a nobody, but maybe he's big in Japan or somewhere. If that's the case, we could see him playable. I would doubt seeing him as an assist with Shovel Knight...the pair kinda look pretty similar from what I can tell. He could be Sakurai's big WTF pick for Ultimate! There's always one!
Ashley - Sadly appears to be an assist again.
Takamaru - Also back as an assist...and Sakurai likes him o_O

Knuckles - The assist who "proves" Shadow is in. All he seems to prove is this may be an assist wave... *gulp* No, daddy Sakurai, noooo!!
Tails - You can be anything, you can do anything...but no one wants you :( Tails could very well be stuck in Green Hill Zone forever, that's a harsh and unforgiving reality Tails fans must face. Still, he's here and Shadow's not. Even though Shadow makes more sense as a gunner, obviously there's no rule against assist trophy costumes, the ballot ended the previous October so there was plenty of time to know how Shadow, Tails and Knuckles did, and we got a pointless bionic costume where Shadow could have gone instead. Maybe that says something? Who knows. Sakurai (or someone; I know the whole smash team isn't Sakurai) also saw fit to design an original gun for Tails. Someone went to some trouble. He's practically the ONLY costume Sakurai went to that kind of trouble for. Makes Tails seem oddly important. I wanna believe, but I've been burned twice before (was I the only one who thought Sonic was big enough to be joined by Tails in BRAWL?).
Gah, okay, this is long enough. What are your thoughts? Do you believe in the prophetic power of the costumes? More costumes got promoted than assist trophies in all of Smash history already. What? I even think it's remotely possible, though pretty unlikely.)
Now according to my research, the Smash Bros. fighter ballot, which is also heavily influencing Ultimate apparently, started on April 1st 2015 (wow, really?) and ended in October. Mewtwo released later that month(in April), and was clearly planned well before that along with Lucas, so I want to stress that the DLC was not ALL ABOUT Ultimate, loosen your tinfoil hat a bit and think about this. It is possible that the DLC after the first wave was influenced by the ballot...but very unlikely that the first wave was. That said, I'm going through all the character costumes anyway, even the ones in the game pre-DLC.
So, let's start there...
Barbara the bat - Hat included, previously an assist trophy... however, she hasn't been important in some time as far as I know. Best odds - Assist Trophy.
Chain Chomp - obviously, best odds - Assist Trophy.
Daisy - Oh, look, echo fighter confirmed!
