Goodbye, my little Angel of Love.

When I came home for lunch today, I found Cathy crouching on the kitchen floor, panting audibly. By the time I had put her in her carry case and let my boss know I was taking her to the vet, the pained meowing had started. On arriving at the vet, she was hustled in for examination. The vet said that her lungs were full of fluid, and that she had next to no chance of survival.
Cathy was put to sleep at 12:32 PM with a dose of sedative directly to the heart. She did not suffer. I was there, and held her to the end. Thus ends the reign of Her Imperial Highness, the Empress Catherine Montaigne Chandler, Protector of Dreams, Slayer of Nightmares, Traveler Extraordinaire, Sent by God, Angel of Love, Because the Naming of Cats is A Difficult Matter. She was 5 years old.
Godspeed, my beloved.

1- As soon as I became aware of the problem, and that there was no hope, I acted. She was not allowed to suffer.
2- That she was spared old age. Old age has not been kind to my family, as a general rule.
She'll be waiting for you, as I know Katrina and Maggie will be waiting for me.
Dominus tecum
It is always so difficult to lose a pet we love, feeling as if we somehow let them down by not being able to help them.
Here is a wonderful poem that a friend sent to me after my cat had passed away, which I always try to share with others who are going through this.
Rainbow Bridge (Death of a Pet)
There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth.
It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of all its beautiful colors.
Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows,
hills and valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place.
There is always food and water and warm spring weather.
The old and frail animals are young again.
Those who were sick, hurt or in pain are made whole again.
There is only one thing missing,
they are not with their special person who loved them so much on earth.
So each day they run and play until the day comes
when one suddenly stops playing and looks up!
The nose twitches! The ears are up!
The eyes are staring and this one runs from the group!
You have been seen and when you and your special friend meet,
you take him in your arms and hug him.
He licks and kisses your face again and again -
and you look once more into the eyes of your best friend and trusting
pet.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together never again to be apart.
Every animal that dies takes a little piece of our hearts with them. And every animal that arrives in our lives, gives us a little piece of their hearts.
