Apparently I'm a bad person...

According to multiple people, I'm a bad person for believing that we shouldn't commit acts of violence on people who we don't agree with, such as the KKK and neo-Nazis. The supposed "logic" behind this is that these groups believe bad things should happen, so we need to preemptively get them before they have a chance to take over a country and enact the final solution and/or start a race war. Now I'm no legal expert, but the last time I checked, we didn't punish people before a crime was committed. I was also under the impression that we didn't criminalize racist thoughts or words, only actions. I made it clear to these people that I was not referring to those who actually acted upon those beliefs, just those that hold the beliefs. I pointed out that there is a minority of people in these groups who have actually done any wrong, and most of them are only guilty of being unrepentant assholes. That doesn't seem to matter. By my reckoning, if we applied this 'logic' of "get them before they get us" to everyone everywhere, the human race would quickly go extinct. The lgbt community, apostates, Wiccans, and adulterers would all have reason to attack those who follow the Abrahamic religions, because their belief system says that the aforementioned parties should be put to death, and a very small minority of the group has acted on those beliefs. It would also mean that ALL non-Muslims would have just cause to attack ALL Muslims, because Islam says that very bad things should happen to the non-believers, and a very small, but very notable, minority of Muslims act on that belief and kill people. It would seem that my belief that such a policy is pointlessly destructive, unjust, and lacks any sort of nuance makes me a bad person. I'm just wondering if there are any other "bad people" out there who believe as I do, or if I'm just an anomaly.
Firstly theres way too many people that don't know what they're talking about but talk loud because they're 200% confident in their shitty opinions.
Secondly because of the cancerous political climate in the USA right now people seem to have thrown decency, courtesy and morality out the window in favor of pushing their political beliefs.
Its best to avoid it all - people who stop being decent people because they want to push their ideaologies or beliefs on another are not worth the time.
If you find yourself having to deal with a lot of shit, just walk away from it.
Lastly consider this - its hard to win an arguement against an intelligent person. It is impossible to win arguements against idiots.
Avoid twitter or block those who're ruining it for you for best results, its a cesspool for USA politics.
I hope these people in question weren't your friends, because if at least they were randoms on twitter its easier to just dismiss/ignore them.

If you want to act like a Nazi or wear Nazi attire for fetish-purposes in public, that is your right. If you get beaten up for doing so, that is your fault for being provocative. Actions have consequences.
If you want to scream at or protest someone who you think is a Nazi, that is your right. If you physically fight them and you get beaten back, shot or arrested for taking negative action against someone, that is your fault. Actions have consequences.
The second that we start policing and taking negative action against free speech and non-violent expression, is the second that we become no different than the KKK, the Nazis, ISIS, the Black Panthers, etc. etc., because they all despise freedom of speech and expression.
I don't know how anyone could possible think that they're enlightened for thinking X, but then try to violently silence people for speaking against X. Enlightened should possess critical thinking skills and should be able to debate without it ending in violence. Unfortunately, common sense and critical thinking aren't so common these days and everyone just wants to buy into one way of thought or follow what is heard within the news and then scream about it without really even thinking about it.
Everything that you said is pretty much right on the money and I agree with what has already been said in that you should ignore these toxic fuckers who just want to push ideologies and scream about them.
