mehtekwahkihkîki = in the forest/in the woods (root word mehtekwi = tree)

pakwachinenothwa = (wild) bison/buffalo

mehtekwahkihkîki pakwachinenothwa = wood bison (Bison bison athabascae)

The word "Mehtekwi" could also simply mean "stick" or "wood", but in this context, when coupled with the animate "-a" and the redoubled plural "-hkiki" would refer to being "among", "within", or "surrounded by" [something alive/animate]... in this case it woud be trees...in a forest.

"Pakwachi" means something wild. The word "Nenothwa" by itself usually refers to cattle, but "Pakwachinenothwa" means wood bison/buffalo. The plains bison/buffalo are known as "Pêhkinenothwa".... "pêhki-" meaning "great/large".

Algonquin languages can be tough to translate into english sometimes, but I try .. gotta use it or lose it bro, and we came very close to losing it....we (Meskwaki/Sauk/Kickapoo) were down to less than 300 fluent speakers just 10 years ago, mostly elders, but language revitalization programs are now raising up a whole new generation of speakers.

That's rad as all get up and I respect you for trying to preserve it all. I am terrible at languages, even tho I'd like to learn my native language, but alas :'D I can't even learn Spanish not alone something as difficult as an Algonquin language argh. BUt thanks for the lesson!!!
