Expecting payment is not a bad thing at all. If someone is really a fan of your work and your dedication, then they should be happy to pay for your TIME if they expect anything big. From that exchange, I would suggest NOT doing his comic and not even reading his script.

There's a reason that the 'big dogs' in entertainment have a rule about not accepting unsolicited scripts/songs/stories/whatever, and return them unopened to the sender. That rule protects them in case they're already working on something similar. For example, let's say I'm working on a story about a young eagle struggling to find his place in a cold, uncaring forest after his parents both dies in a forest fire. If I even look at a story from Mr. X about a young tigress trying to make her way in a cold uncaring city after her father left home for parts unknown, and then publish my story, Mr. X. can claim that I stole his idea, and it would take a long, expensive court battle to prove that i started the story and had the plot fleshed out before his story even arrived.

On a side note, i did some free work for a *person*, and after i finished several pictures he never even thanked me, he just offered a lot of criticism on tiny things and that was it. It made me never want to do free stuff again, but then after that nicer people have made requests and actually thanked me. i guess some people are just going to be jerks and their's nothing you can do about it. I'm sure you know more on the subject than any of us, hahaha. :)

Ooo how about "Troll: Ego Trip" the comical yet emotional story of a troll as it learns that life does not revolve around it, or "Something for Nothing" the story about nothing for nothing and is readable by folks who can count to "zero" the exact number of pages and words that make up it's plot.

Honestly I'm doing my own thing (because I'm really, really, really cheap) but really, to make it sound like you needed his ideas. Well that's just rude...
