Are fancy tablets with a built in screen worth it?

Just wondering if anyone else got ahold of one of those. They look so sleek and neat! But if they're not that much better than just using a plain old tablet I wouldn't think they'd be worth that hefty price tag. But they look so neat! I'd imagine drawing right to the screen would be easier and more intuitive than looking at a screen instead of your hands. But is it??

The legit WACOM devices, such as he Cintiq and the Companion are great, but they are expensive as fuck, and not really worth it unless you're doing your drawing professionally, as in you work at a game development company or something.
There are a couple of alternatives, though.
Best known one is the Surface Pro 1. because the Surface Pro 2 (which, if you can afford it is a MUCh better option stat-wise) came out, MS firesaled these devices. They are pretty dang powerful, and are straight up windows PCs (and half decent ones at that, you can actually game on these, though thy're roughly on part with ultrabooks, with an intel HD4000). So you can just throw proper SI and Photoshop and everyting on there and it'll work perfectly.
The Stylus sensitivity and accuracy is top-notch, and i've not seen a single complaint. You can pick one up for something like $399-$500 US.
There's also a few more traditional straight up pen displays, like the Hanvon ( http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/like/290951723484?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=107 ), The Yiynova ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009QQ7BG0/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B009QQ7BG0&linkCode=as2&tag=frenden-20 ) and the Bosto ( http://bosto-tablet.com/ ) They range from $400 to $700.
I'd reccommend just grabbing a surface pro 1. it's a fantastic little device.
Screen size, obviously. I got a fairly sizable one, which helps me deal with having all the extra toolbars and windows in my drawing programs.
Peripheral support: USB connectivity, and whether it gets along with your wireless devices. My Vaio came with its own wireless keyboard, a definite bonus! It's one of the items that swayed me from getting a Surface Pro 2 (close decision though!)
Storage: Lots of tablets try to goad you into using cloud services. While not bad, You'll probably want a way to move files from tablet to PC and back. Lately, I use Dropbox for that.
OS Version: A MUST to consider for installing programs. You might run into difficulties if it's not the "full" OS version. Out of all the options, my two highest choices were the Surface 2 and a Sony Vaio, since they both ran the full version of Windows 8.
It's a huge investment, but if you use it often, you'll get re-trained on it and get a lot of value from it. Like saying goodbye to scanning, for one. :3
