Annoyed about Sonic Boom redesigns... just me whining lol

Reality_Undoer Ugh... anyone ever really dislike something and then you see a bunch of other people showering it with praise and it just really pisses you off lol? Just so that I'm perfectly clear to anyone who comments, this is just my PERSONAL opinion, so any kind of 'rebuttals' will serve no purpose because you aren't gonna change my opinion lol. You're free to disagree with me, tell me my opinion sucks or whatever, but trying to CHANGE my opinion will just be a waste of time lol.
This is just a rant about the new Sonic Boom redesigns of the characters lol, they were recently revealed in full color, not just the terrible silhouettes. I should just get this right out there: I DO NOT LIKE FRIVOLOUS REDESIGNS. When there is a redesign for no real reason, just for the fuck of it, it pisses me off pretty much instantly, because USUALLY the redesign is ugly to me. This is a strange one as well, because honestly the only one who they did any BIG changes to, was, of course, one of my favorite characters, Knuckles.
It's like they did not know anything about the character, and just looked up his most basic traits: He's super strong, and he lives on a tropical island. So naturally, to make it perfectly clear to everyone of these two traits, they hulkified him, making him much taller than the others, and gave him muay thai arm wraps. Wtf? Really? I think it looks atrocious. This is one of those things where the redesign is DRASTIC and those are usually the ones I hate the most. However, this is a strange one, in the way that Knuckles is the ONLY one of the four, that got a drastic redesign. The others, got what I call 'What was the point?" redesigns, especially Tails.
"What was the point?" is when they basically keep the same design, but they just add pointless things, that were not needed at all, and only serve to irritate further. Like for Sonic. They did 4 things. They gave him hand/foot wraps, instead of gloves and socks. Why? What was the point? They gave him a scarf. Ooh. Extra fucking clothes, again, what was the point? They gave him 'messy' quills, which translates to "We just had some extra quills stick out between his normal quills". REALLY? It looks EXACTLY the same, but they put two extra tiny quills on his head! What was the point of that!? It just looks dumb! But the last thing, is the most irritating. Especially, ESPECIALLY, because usually in Sonic art, when people do this, people will point out immediately that the artist made a mistake, unless the artist purposely draws them like this. Blue arms. Sonic now has blue arms. Sigh... really? Really? WHAT WAS THE POINT?
For Amy... and here is where people can really call me out for either bias or hypocrisy... I don't like Amy in her normal design. I dislike the actual character of Amy. It doesn't matter what she looks like, because I don't like HER, in general. However, she also got a "what was the point?" redesign. The took away her boots, and gave her shoes. And they also swapped her 'poofy' dress, for a non poofy one. And that's about it. What was the point of this? There isn't one. But I don't give a shit about Amy, so they can change her all they like :)
But Tails... HE got the most pointless redesign of all, because he... didn't get one. Not at all. He looks EXACTLY the same. All they did... was give him goggles and a tool belt. That isn't a redesign. They just gave him stereotypical 'smart guy mechanic' stuff, to show that HE'S SMART BECAUSE HE HAS GOGGLES AND TOOLS DURRR! PLUS, he actually ALREADY HAS WORN THAT IN LICENSED STUFF BEFORE! In Sonic Riders, he is wearing goggles and a belt I believe. In Sonic X, whenever he was repairing the Tornado, he wore GOGGLES AND A TOOL BELT. There is NO CHANGE here! So, out of the four, I actually like Tails' "redesign". Because it ISN'T a redesign lol.
And here is the point where I'm gonna get pettier than I already am about this lol... I keep seeing people oohing and ahhing and squeeing over these designs. Even saying that they hope SEGA makes these the official new looks for them! And THAT is what is really pushing my buttons lol! REALLY?! You guys ripped on those silhouettes, yet you actually like THESE? Some of the praisers are even artists that make BETTER designs of Sonic characters than this crap! ARGH! And it's not just that... now there will be an influx of fanart and smut featuring these shitty redesigns! I REALLY hope that there isn't a bunch of Knuckles stuff... I mean, Knuckles smut stuff is rare enough, but now watch, suddenly there will be a ton of Knuckles stuff! BUT IT WILL BE THIS HORRIBLE VERSION OF HIM LOL XD

Ill have to look at the designs to see what you're talking about. Until then, we can go beat up the artists?

very much looking forward to both. the gameplay looks fun (hoping they'll fix up the in-game models)
the cartoon from what i've seen here and the voice clips from the behind the scenes trailer looks like it's going to be really good and funny ( a shame the episodes will only be 10 minutes)
and the team behind it has had a very good track-record for making good games and taking risks (i.e. Jak 2)
the music in the game trailer is obviously not going to be in the actual game (because people had the same damn reaction when they showed the trailers for sonic generations and the trailer music was retro-sounding techno/dubstep)
also they plan to change up some of the character's personalities and possibly backstories (like knux not being the token idiot all the time and amy being both smart and useful and an archiologist)
it's not getting praise only for it's designs, it's getting praise because it's something different from the sonic series that doesn't immediately make you worry (like the werehog, shadow's game, etc.) and it's also finally a sonic game that let's you control other character and not just sonic like it has been for the last 5 years, especially with it being handled by such a compitant team, good voice actors, and having been worked on for more than just a year.
but since i play Brawl once per week together with some friends i have a suppressed wrath against this hedgehog... and ike.... and snake.......and kirby sometimes...
people are accepting of this because it isn't actually part of the main sonic franchise it's just a spin-off series (the games and designs being made by former naughty dog employees) so therefore if it sucks it was just a sonic spin off with lost potential and we still have our main series. if it's good then we have two series of sonics side by side that are awesome (like marvel and it's ultimate universe)
sonic's scarf may be for when he's traversing through windy deserts or so (that and the creators of uncharted). sonic's blue arms aren't THAT big of a deal, they are unnervign but if they're that much of a problem then why haven't we complained before abotu the fact they changed his eyelids from skin color to blue back in sonic adventure, 2, and heroes onward. have sonic fans complained before about the fact sonic wore soap-shoes in SA2 instead of his regular shoes like in the trailer for the game?(or were they still ravign about the fact he was slightly taller, had green eyes, and wasn't voiced by jaleel white?)
tails is a mechanic so of course he's going to wear goggles and a belt (sort of reminds me of tails from the "25 years later" archie spin off of the main sonic archie series).
there's literally nothing wrong with amy since she changes her costume every other game anyway (still don't like the current voice, i really hope she does better in this series than in generations and lost world).
and i didn't like knux when they were showing him the silhouette but it doesn't bother me as much since he's known to be a brawler anyway and it looks like they will still have his wall crawler and possibly gliding abilities.
my only problem is sonic and knuckle's legs and how long they are for the promotional art and current in-game models (the cartoon models are pretty okay thankfully).
doctor eggman is also surprisingly okay despite not havign as big of a gut as before (like an upside-down egg lol)
it might be possible that alot of their powers might come from the energy thing that they have like how in the old instruction manuals sonic wasn't naturally fast it was his shoes.
Never really understood the rage about the 'green eyes' thing lol, I actually quite like the green eyes, and I never knew people got pissed off about his shoes XD, I assume this was all when SA1 or 2 came out? I played the original Sonic games back when I was around 5-7, and then got SA2 when I was 12, so I didn't even get phased by the eye color difference. Though, if they'd changed it to a WEIRD color then I might have been annoyed. Can you imagine if they'd given him, say, YELLOW eyes XD I also never knew that people complained about his EYELID color XD, it looks FAR better blue IMO and I actually never knew that in the first game it was his shoes that made him fast, that's the first time I've ever heard that before... most people, at least in fanfiction, say that it comes from his affinity for Chaos energy or something, at least in my experience.
And I DESPISE the new Knuckles, because they cliche/stereotyped him... one of the things that I always thought was cool, was that even though he was the strong guy, he didn't look like a neckless roidrager, like all the other 'strong guy' characters in other various series. Now he just looks really... terrible, but the fact that a bunch of people suddenly like him BETTER now, because he looks like a stereotype/cliche is what really irks me... Not to mention he will look RIDICULOUS gliding, with all that extra muscle lol!
Yeah, I don't mind about Amy much, but that's mostly because I don't like her anyway, so I don't care about any change they do to her. Although, I keep hearing that they've basically just 'personality swapped' her with Rouge the bat... who happens to be a character I like, so if they just did that, I will be annoyed XD
The Tails thing doesn't bother me as much... like I mentioned, they essentially just used his Sonic Riders outfit, but again, the fact that so many people are gushing over it, even though he has literally ALREADY worn that outfit before, is what stuns me lol XD Plus, again, they just stereotyped him. He's the smart one, so that has to be made immediately obvious by giving him 'smart guy stuff'. His 'redesign' if you can call it that, doesn't bother me much.
Basically, it's mostly the fan reaction that is annoying me... Knuckles has been 'cliche-ified' and suddenly he looks great according to them, (The same kind of people who complain about things being cliche, but then they applaud when they basically change a character into a stereotype, rather than a more unique character, like they were BEFORE the change? REALLY?) Sonic looks like a half assed fan made AU Sonic, but he is also considered GREAT looking according to them... even though I'm fairly sure that people have drawn him with 'scruffy' quills and hand wraps before... not to mention scarves/bandanas. They say Tails looks great... even though NOTHING was done to him essentially lol, he has worn that stuff before in multiple variations. I'm glad that they are keeping it separate, but if it proves popular enough, I wouldn't be surprised if they started to incorporate this new stuff into the main Sonic franchise...
Basically, it boils down to this for me; I think that the Boom Universe will probably be interesting, and quite possibly inspire some awesome new plots for fanfiction and fanart... that being said, I REALLY dislike the new designs ESPECIALLY Knuckles and Sonic. So if I do find the new games interesting, plotwise, I'll probably enjoy the plots of the fanfiction that will no doubt come from it. But I'll just pretend that it's the normal designs XD. OR if I decide to write fanfiction for it, I'll just use the Boom Universe, but NOT the Boom designs lol.
Either way, this journal was made when the designs were first unveiled, so it is based off of my first gut reaction XD, which is mostly the same now, still don't like the designs AT ALL, but hope that the Boom universe is good.
