2013 - The Year in Review
General
Time for another year in review! Hard to believe 2013 is over. AND I HAVE THE FLU FOR THE NEW YEAR. :C I'm on the downward side of it (I started yesterday being half-dead, though), but it's still no fun.
Not sure how much I really liked this year... but either way, 2013 was a year of real accomplishment for me. My most notable achievement is my EMS training. I took my National Registry exam on Saturday and I found out yesterday that I passed, so I am now a Nationally Registered Advanced EMT! That means in the span of a year I went from having just a CPR card to being an Advanced and being able to do ambulance work for the company I trained with. I'm pretty proud of myself for that. I wasn't able to get a job at all this year, but I plan to start applying for them again soon. I also kept my resolution from last year, to get in shape. I still work out on a regular basis to keep my strength and fitness up and I'm easily in the best physical shape of my life, stronger than ever and with much greater endurance.
Best memories of the year? First is BLFC. My first and thus far only fur con, but it was so much fun and I got to meet some cool new people I hope to see again next year :3 Second is the Starfucker/Wampire concert I got to go to in June. Starfucker is one of my all-time favorite groups, so getting to see them live was a real thrill, and getting to meet the band members afterward, and seeing how nice they all were, left a very positive impression on me. Fan for life now.
I managed to more than double the size of my LP collection this year, with around 100 records, and I scored 30 more CDs. Blame Goodwill and how cheap their music is for a lot of that. I've discovered some good stuff through thrift store digging, even if most of them aren't particularly rare or valuable.
An important thing I've had to finally accept this year is that it doesn't matter how good of a friend I am or how well I treat others -- I'm still going to be disrespected and lied to and taken for granted. As such, my resolution for this year is twofold:
Part 1: Stop wasting time on people who've proven themselves to not be worth it. If they don't care, then I shouldn't have to either. I do my damndest do be a good, reliable friend. I am valuable. But if I'm not going to be treated that way then I'm not going to put up with it.
Part 2: They say to be the change you want to see in the world, so that's what I'm going to do. All my life, over and over, people have told me they'll do something for me, and they never do it, yet they never face any consequences for it or, most of the time, even feel bad about it. And I hate it, so very much. So I'm going to be someone who can be relied on. Someone whose word is as good as gold. If I say I'll do something, I'll do it. If I make a promise, I will keep it. That doesn't mean Part 1 isn't still valid, however.
That said, like last year, top five albums and top ten songs of 2013.
Albums, in no particular order:
"Trans Europe Express" - Kraftwerk
"Hesitation Marks" - Nine Inch Nails
"The Dark Side of the Moon" - Pink Floyd
"Reptilians" - Starfucker
"Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?" - of Montreal
Songs:
"Dreamin'" - Pillar Point
"Echoes" - Pink Floyd
"Slow Dance" - Starfucker
"Tremor Christ" - Pearl Jam
"Spirit Forest" - Wampire
"You Get What You Give" - New Radicals
"We Were Born the Mutants Again with Leafling" - of Montreal
"I Would For You" - Nine Inch Nails
"La Forme" - Kraftwerk
"Broken" - Seether w/Amy Lee
Bye bye, 2013. Here's hoping 2014 is even better. Happy New Year!
