Injustice: The DLC Line-up is Garbage

If you know the news, skip to the part after the video.
So guys, Injustice was very forthcoming about doing DLC characters in much the same way as in Mortal Kombat 9. "Fine by me" I thought because the season pass was a fair deal and aside from the odd inclusion of Freddy I thought the picks were excellent. Fast forward to Injustice: Gods Among Us. A little while ago it was revealed Lobo was going to be the first DLC character. Not a bad pick. People like him. But then a nasty rumor started circulating. A rumor that the remaining three characters were going to be a bunch of characters next to nobody asked for. The remaining characters were going to be Batgirl, General Zod, and Scorpion.
"No way." I thought to myself. "Nobody was asking for those guys. Nobody could be that stupid." I kept telling myself. Lo and behold, this leak happens, just like with Lobo.
Personally, it pisses me off that in a game that has a quarter of its roster comprised of Batman characters, they decided to add another. What gets me even more pissed is that this lends credibility to the idea that the leaked list was true, that Zod and Scorpion are the next additions.
This to me is just pure utter bullshit. I'm aware I may be acting like a whiny, entitled consumer but dammit, if you go on any forum anywhere talking about this game and the potential DLC and you'll find next to nobody asking for any of these three characters. Bottom line though is it just seems like a lose/lose scenario. Boon said he can't say for sure this it will be it for DLC and there could potentially be more. This DLC needs to sell in order for it to be worth it to invest in more DLC. People, like me, are livid at the notion of this leak being true if not at least Batgirl being the next addition. Annoyed customers are customers who won't buy the DLC and the DLC won't sell enough to merit more DLC with characters people are actually asking for.
So here's what I ask of any of my watchers who share my mindset and are not satisfied with this reveal. Let the guys know. Tell them how dissatisfied you are about Batgirl. Tell them how dissatisfied you'll be if Zod and Scorpion are added. Make them acknowledge that this is a problem. That way if the DLC sell like shit they'll at least know it was their own damn fault for such terrible choices. Then maybe we have a slim chance of taking another crack at it with heroes and villains the fans actually want.
Here are their Facebook and Twitter pages as well as their Youtube channel. When the Batgirl trailer comes out be sure to dislike and complain in the comments!

Well I still want Killer Croc. X3
Teen Titans: Bumblebee
Young Justice: Zatanna
It should have been Booster Gold! T.=.T
I'M TELLING YOU.
The developers owe you, as the player, NOTHING. They made the game for you, you bought it, and as far as they are concerned you're out of the picture, unless you want to buy more extra content from them. There are not a lot of villains and heroes they can really add in, ones that will actually make sense anyways. Or that are really viable fighters. Who would you have them add? Karate Kid? Superboy Prime? Darkseid? Fire? Ice? Blue Beetle? Admittedly Karate Kid would be kinda awesome, seeing as he actually beat the shit out of Superboy...
It's a business, and with a high profile studio like NetherRealm at the helm, they're going to seek to maximize profit over customer satisfaction. Unfortunately, and I'm very sorry to say this, you are part of a very small portion of the fanbase, and not a part of it that will bring the company money. Video games cost a LOT to make. Like, more than you might even think is possible, and if their product doesn't sell, people lose jobs. Companies get shut down, layoffs occur. From a practical standpoint? This makes perfect sense to include Batgirl, especially if one of her skins is the Cassandra Cain variant.
That's what it boils down to, and this is the cold hard truth: Sound business choices with low risk and maximized profits.
My issue with Batgirl specifically is that she is another Bat-character added to a roster that is 25% Bat characters and I personally would like to see more variety when DC has such a large catalog of characters to draw on. My bigger issue is that her inclusion suggests General Zod and Scorpion won't be far behind.
Back to business, I'm well aware the average budget for making a game is in the tens of millions and that game "companies" are in the business of making making money as the word company implies. I know that's shocking but I learned to come to terms with it so bear with me. I can slow down and punctuate every word for you if that helps.
So tell me, when comic and video game fans alike are unanimously hoping for Martian Manhunter, when fans are visibly and enthusiastically supporting characters Like Zatanna, Black Canary, Blue Beetle, Black Manta etc., when Ed Boon has a popularity poll for DC heroines and Batgirl comes in dead last, do you think it makes sense from a money-making standpoint to add Batgirl? Can you honestly tell me with a straight face you think Batgirl is a more appealing and financially promising inclusion than Martian Manhunter?
I know I had my own personal wishes on who would make the cut. I knew I wouldn't be totally satisfied either but I expected the choices to at least be satisfactory and, from what I can see on forums and other sites, consumers aren't satisfied. People are already stating they're happy to not buy any DLC after Lobo because of this reveal. Generally it seems consumers hate the rumored full list of DLC and WB Games stands to make much less money as a result of this. I fail to see a winner on either side in this equation or how Batgirl is helping.
From a programming standpoint they'd all be kinda nightmares to program for. Zatanna's power is in speaking backwards but she hasn't shown a lot in terms of fist-fighting chops. Black Canary alongside the rest of the second stringers has her run as one of the Birds of Prey but she's just that: a second stringer. Black Manta might be a viable choice but really he's another one of those characters that's hard to make into a fighter. Blue Beetle's been getting the short end of the stick despite being a compelling character, and as far as Martian Manhunter? The character's powers and uses have been so wildly interpreted and re-written over the years, of course it's going to play merry hell on the devs. He can phase through objects, is as strong as Superman, can mind rape you, alter his body to be harder then diamond or something harder that it even no-sells a punch from Superman?
Picking a moveset for him would be akin to some Cthulian horror blight to inflict upon some poor unwitting developer.
Who's being the condescending one here though? Me for stating what -I- know or you taking the holier than than thou approach to a someone you don't know? I don't know you personally, I'm not making it a personal attack here, I'm simply stating my own take on the matter. Don't talk down to me like I'm some inbred jackass without a clue, that's just rude and indecent. The fact that you see fit to try and rise above someone who has his own opinions that differ from your own really don't paint you in a flattering light.
Secondly, I don't see how any potential programming challenges factors in to a publisher marketing to consumers, to make money. Budgets for DLC are already set in stone. Regardless I'm of the mind if Capcom can turn a defense attorney into a combatant in a game where you fight Galactus then many DC characters should be perfectly doable. Even then I believe you exaggerate the difficulty. Hardly a Lovecraftian affair.
Amingo comes readily to mind, whatever the hell he was supposed to be.
NetherRealm's programming pedigree isn't exactly extensive, having developed, to date, 4 games, 1 of which being an iOS title, the other being a remake of the old Mortal Kombat games, and their first being the new Mortal Kombat game. YOu could make the argument since the team -is- comprised partially of old Midway Games team members, including good ol' Ed Boon as it's creative director, you're still operating with a company that has released an admittedly groundbreaking in it's relentless depiction of violence title, but from a practical standpoint? Mortal Kombat has, at best, been a rather mediocre fighter. Arkham City Lockdown of course, being an iOS title can't have much depth to it, but it has gotten mixed reviews, and again since it's an app, you can't expect the world from it. They just haven't had the experience to really make a splash in terms of developmental progress, since most of the characters in the Mortal Kombat series play pretty similarly, save for the range moves (or lack thereof) that they utilize. Injustice's DLC characters aren't going to be grand departures from the old, and in fact, most DLC characters that tend to be released are just recolors or slightly different retreads of existing characters with a slightly different moveset, different priority, and maybe some health and speed variation, different permutations of the same content. The only DLC characters in any game that I can honestly say were worth the investment were the ones from BlazBlue: Valkenheyn, Makoto, etc...
Most devs, particularly ones that haven't really made strides in playstyle differentiation aren't going to push for vastly different content, it's just a matter of practicality, and if they can push out 'new' characters with minimal effort and maximized profits from said effort? They're going to do it.
The punctuation is highly unnecessary, as a sidebar.
Being a game, things don't need to make logical sense so long as they're fun in my opinion and considering this game is based on comics I'd argue suspension of disbelief is already well in order.
I don't think a developer's pedigree is a mark of product quality and NR certainly made a good showing with MK9. You may not like the game but the fact is it was quite an acclaimed and successful game. It's also now going to be a main event game three years in a row at the Evolution Championship Series which certainly says a lot.
I personally believe your evaluation of DLC characters in fighters is grossly off but oh well, it's your opinion. I think Lobo already looks significantly unique from the rest of the cast so far but that's just me.
The crux of your argument appears to be Batgirl is a sound business decision because most all others are either too difficult (MM) or too obscure (Black Canary). I don't believe either of those to be true but, assuming I did, do you still not believe there is a single character in the entire DC universe that would please more people and still be a sound investment?
Truthfully speaking? I'd like Jade Canary/Lady Shiva or Animal Man. Isn't gonna happen though and I'm okay with that. Weighing up the costs it's still going to be tough. Power Girl may be popular, but that's the thing: Popular votes are just that, they don't necessarily decree what is going to be made. The developers and executives don't have any reason to actually follow through on the most popular choices. IT's their decision to make, stupid as it might be, and we have to respect their stupid decisions.
And like hell you have to respect corporate decisions. That's just moronic. If they make bad decisions let people take their business elsewhere if they aren't content.
That's pretty much the point of the whole thing though isn't it? No one's making you buy the DLC for Injustice, or any other game for that matter. If the content is less than stellar then the people's actions will speak louder then their words. No one's putting a gun to your head to buy these characters. Of course, knowing the trends that the people go through and how they respond to them, they're going to buy them anyways. And I did pretty much say the Batgirl was the best option, even if it wasn't outright. For that I do apologize for not being clear enough.
The reason I didn't get injustice is because I'm not a fan of the cast and the one person I did want to play is currently ass xD (RIP Bane) but maybe if they add someone else later on who knows.
yay for agreeing =P
Touched that one up for you.
nuff said...
also Zod and Scorpion? really? who the fuck asked zod?? that guy with the glasses fanboys???
I just somehow by some means we get a second batch of DLC with characters people want. In the meantime lets fill the game's official twitter feed with complaints, maybe give them a clue.
This lineup is bullshit. But Zero, Netherrealm isn't the culprit here. Warner Bros is. Remember that they have final say on everything since the characters all belong to them. I am not going to hold this on Boon and company but this is a fucked up situation nonetheless.
I too don't plan on holding NR responsible per se, especially since Zod, if an actual inclusion, just reeks of marketing for Man of Steel.
As far as I see it, there might be fanbases big enough for these characters to get such "reward" as this.
In my case I don't quite know which character I like to have in this game.
Don't quite know that much of DC universe yet to make such decision. ^^;
Lobo: IDEAL pick, lesser known, fucking amazing, great application so far. I have a rock hard dick over this guy being playable.
Batgirl: Worst of the bunch, no idea why they are doing this to us unless they are planning to put her in the next batman movie (which they ARE rebooting batman, for the justice league movie)
Zod: Cool char, but if they make him anything but a superman ripoff, I'll be amazed. Also kinda an understandable choice, since he's the main villain of the new superman movie and we KNOW that these games are nothing but one big marketing ploy to WB and Disney (formerly known as DC and Marvel :P)
Scorpion: In true netherrealms fashion, they wanted SOMEONE in there, and didn't care HOW outta place they were. I...don't know what to think, I mean scorpions a cool guy. Yeah he's not fitting in the world, but I mean really? They could have chose someone lamer (Liu Kang everybody?). Not what I want, but not hard to understand.
And now for closing notes, our opinion likely won't do jack shit. These are most likely the four chars we're getting NOT because they wanted to add DLC, but likely because they were held back or 'almost done' on the original disk, and have been decided to be in the game since day one. DLC is rarely content they decided to put in afterwards when it comes out so close to release date, it is more likely a nickel and diming trick with existing content. Such is marketing, and while it sucks, we're the ones who have to decide to suck it or not D:<
But yeah, Lobo is the only solid choice here. It's no surprise people are unhappy with Batgirl. Somebody said this and it's a perfect way to sum up the situation. ""This is like putting Hsu Hao in the game instead of Rain. Can he be good? Sure. Will people bitch? A LOT."
