After recently being in an art stream chat (won't name names; I don't want to start drama <.<), I've been feeling rather cynical about the general attitude many in the fandom seem to have. Call it generalizing, blanketing, or what have you, but I've been given the impression that a lot of furs seem to take the "LOL, internet :V" stance when it comes to colloquial communication. In other words, snarky sarcasm and (possibly rude) teasing is considered perfectly normal and even expected. :U
Also, since I do browse FA with all the smut filters turned on, I've basically been living under the delusion that there are a decent number of furs who actually like and draw SFW art. Well, after having been in this stream chat, I think I'm starting to finally see that little bit (read: shit-ton) of selectivity bias in my thinking, and am beginning the process of (painful) disillusionment/disenchantment.
I'm beginning to feel my interests in this fandom wane… ;3;
I really don't mean to hurt anyone personally here, and for all I know I may just end up deleting this journal entry a week from now (or sooner), but right now I just feel rather jaded and depressed…

maybe you should start fresh somewhere else? i mean i really don't know of many other sites i would spend as much time on as i've spent on FA, but for instance, weasyl is a newish art site that so far doesn't seem to bad, at least art wise, i'm sure the community isn't really all that different, so far it just seems for of a branch off of furaffinity but with extra features.
idk i wish their were more we could do about it but some people are just like that i guess :U
if you would like though, i could invite you to weasyl and you could give that a shot maybe??
Maybe that weasyl website.. I've considered taking that route.
I notice also that the amount of narky sarcasm and (possibly rude) teasing has been increased in comparison with years ago. Personally I hate it because there aren't voice pitches and face expressions attached to conversations in forums/comments/irc/etc. to detect sarcasm like you do IRL.
So yeah, You're not alone when it comes to handling this issues. Remember that~ |=(:3
This is exactly the problem I have; I have anxiety issues, and they're only compounded when I have absolutely no way of telling when someone's being sarcastic or not, or if they're just teasing or being serious. These things can be implied with emoticons (obviously :P), but there are other subtleties like body language that get lost in translation to text.

I really wish dA wasn't so full of BS staff and art theft; I have been tempted to go back there if it wasn't for all the crap. They really have the best gallery system in place, in my humble opinion (or at least they did before I left--not sure what has changed in the last few years).
I'm not sure what it is about furries and their obsession with cropped thumbnails but...ugh; chances are that has mostly to do with the porn, too.
Eh? I'm not sure what you're getting at here…do you mean thumbnails that are a crop of the full image, rather than just a resize, or icons that are cropped versions of a full (possibly pr0n) image, rather than something designed specifically as an icon? I'd tend to think the latter would be more common for a reason… :P
Unfortunately since Weasyl was super selective about who was first to beta, the same problem exists there. I'm trying to see if I can attract more people from the non-fur crowd in hopes of diluting the PRON PRON PRON population there, but so far the layout hasn't really appealed to me enough to work at it.

I prefer 'thumbnails' to just be the entire image scaled down. I'd never encountered 'cropped' thumbnails until I started looking at furry related art sites like this one. The only reason I've seen people give for them is that so artists can put specific warnings on the thumbnail as a 'kink beware' kind of thing.
Meanwhile the folks that are there to appreciate clean artwork like myself have to spend loads more time sifting through pieces that may not even be worth looking at full sized, simply because we only had a character's head to go by in the preview thumbnail.
Hope that makes sense...long couple of days at work x_x
