No, that actually pissed me off. Not all that much, really. People say stupid things all the time, you deal with it or you go insane, but seriously.
What the HELL defect is it that makes a person mistakenly presume themself an expert on the quality and/or details of a game based solely on "a review they read"?
Even more annoying is people who class ALL games in a certain genre into a single catagory. Because god knows, they are all 100% identical, there are no differences in them, they all adhere to the exact same rules, pattern, and qualities. Yes, in your little imaginary world maybe.
"All MMO's are shit after their first impression", "FPS games never have a good story", "only nerds play RPGs". How arrogant is this shit?
You're probably wondering what set off this little bitch-session (and yes I have no problem admitting this is bitching).
Someone I admire; respect, even, came out with one of the most arrogant things I've ever seen them say, in referrence to the only MMO on this planet that has ever been able to hold my attention for a length of time; based on nothing but external opinion, not even a scrap of his own experience.
And I guess seeing that, and having that respect turn out to be misplaced, was just a bit too much.

In fact, I totally agree with you. Most of these people with their limited thought capacity are applying this viewpoint to video/computer gams as a whole. WTF is wrong with these people?! Why is it that when anyone criticizes a certain form of a video game/computer game genre, everyone else has to take those criticisms, and then sterotypes the genre in its entirety, based on those few observations? It's nuts!
Everybody's entitled to their own opinions... but make sure that they are your OWN opinions, and not just repeating other peoples'. Seriously, is it really that difficult?
Yeah one review isn't anything but someone's opinion. Most reviews like Gamespot or IGN are useless. Some like Extended Play are for entertainment values in that they throw a tiny bit of WRITING into it...
Again, as I said, trusting one review to something never works...
that's why I trust 40 of them. http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpag.....?q=RF%20online
That generalization is true, by the way. Many, many, many MMO games over the years have used an addictive gameplay system to pull people into playing past their first impression into a sea of monotony, frustration, and boredom. Ragnarok comes to mind. When you enjoy a game, though, that doesn't magically mean this generalization doesn't hold true in many cases. It just means you've found a way to enjoy yourself, and you should continue to.
I really don't think it's worth losing respect for someone over, in any case.
