You know those PS Vita characters who were rumored to be eventually released as DLC? They're already on the disc...
Fuck you Capcom...just...fuck you! I have never been so tempted to make a negative pun out of that name until today. Shit like this is exactly why I wasn't excited and committed to not buying this title at launch. I hope this game sells like shit. I would love it if it actually sells worse than UMvC3. That game got no marketing this one did and I hope it bombs.
Fuck! I'm going back to Tekken and Blazblue goddammit!

Forgive me for my outburst, but that is just fucking hilarious. I didn't even bother to think that they were on the disc already. I feel for you man, Capcom has just been going crazy recently and this just puts the nail in that coffin.
but in seriousness yeah it's pretty BS that it's already on the damn disk and we're having to crap out more money for it, I dunno if i should called Capcom the worse company to use DLC or not XD;
I'm glad I don't have to deal with current games' bullcrap 'cause I just got a PSP a few months ago, slogging through the backlog there.. xD
"Want more color variety for your characters? 5 DOLLERZ PLZ"
"Want to play as your favorite character? MORE MONIES PLZ"
normally a fighting game has 1 or 2 features that make the game what it is. Street Fighter 4 had focus attacks and ultras, marvel vs capcom had xfactors and the one button launch (special), King of Fighters had hyper bar that let you ex in and out of every move and allowed you to cancel out of every move. things like that.
Now with sf x tekken though there are several modes and features that are built for casuals that may just play till the next new game game comes out. for instance
Gems- gems are just one of the comeback mechanics in the game. they activate under certain conditions and give the player a small bonus usually to defense or attack (like 10%)
some will do stuff like increase distance and what not for moves.
Another feature is scramble mode. scramble mode is like smash bros. now dont get me wrong i love smash bros. but 80 % of a fighting game community will tell you that smash bros is not a fighter nor is it worthy orf a real tournament scene due to its mechanics. but its the same with scramble mode a battle royal will be great and fun maybe for a few days then people will want to play the real game.
another feature is PANDORA mode. pandora mode is when you sacrifice one character to make the other stronger. this is like another comeback mechanic but it totally defeats the purpose of this game being a team game. However this is actually not very usefull and most of the time is not used very often.
Party Time is another feature within the game. This was a mode in marvel vs capcom 1 were both characters on a team would jump on screen and you would control both at he same time by doing moves the nreturn stick to neutral to switch and vice versa.
this and there are about 4 other modes including tag combos, cross assaults, 2vs2 and what not.
Also the guest characters are silly i mean cmon Cole magraph from that crappy infamous game, toro and koro from japan that no one will know also they are just ryu and kazuya, pacman! why? this isnt soul calibut this game can actually sell with out the need of guest characters. However i will not bash BOX ART 1 mega man he was put in the game for all the whiny capcom fans that wouldnt be quiet about mega man. So now you have him and i couldnt agree more with them.
what Im guessing to say is do not hate the game for how they are marketing dlc hate the game for all the useless crap they put into it. the vita version isnt coming out till later which is good. And at least this is one game were they will actually make dlc character that are not on disc (for once). This is capcoms new main game and thus is gonna shadow over street fighter 4. I for one will not play scramble mode or use gems but the game isnt going to fail. But you are not alone everyone has made comments to the pr guy ono and seth killian but its just like capcom to never listen to there fans.
Just wait untill you actually get to play the game then go after it trust me. I hated how this game looked and played till i finally got to play it at last evo and a final build at norcal regions. Its not a bad game just has a cluster fuck of stuff you wont play for more then a day.
I'm not very fond of DLC and haven't been for quite a while. For every one instance where it's done well there are at least 10 which are shameless cash grabs. I know there's a reason on disc DLC happens and it's an understandable one but this instance with SFxT specifically seems like one of the shadiest especially based on the videos these guys all look largely complete unlike Jill with MvC3. Not to mention UMvC3 was a premature update but there was no doubt new content added. SFxT has just as many unavailable characters that were added to UMvC3 but they're being held back for what is likely a marketing reason with the Vita.
As far as content is concerned, alt costumes don't even compare to full blown characters. That shit is important. The EX characters in KoFXIII weren't quite so vital since they were in a way tweaks of characters already on the roster and there were only 3. SFxT has four times that many. And don't even get me started on pricing. In MvC3 Jill and Shuma were 5 dollars a pop. I shudder to think how the DLC will be priced this time.
Either way I've got better games to play at the moment. I don't plan to touch this game until I see what people think a couple months down the road and only after all this DLC bull has been resolved to some extent.
And I think I can bash Capcom and not Blazblue because those 3 DLC characters weren't on the disc in any playable form. All that was there at launch was placeholder data like themes and crests. There has never to my recollection been an instance like this in a fighter were there were so many characters locked away on disc and largely playable. Hell, I'm watching a guy stream these guys right now. X
and charging special moves into ex moves or holding then longer for charged supers was a fantastic idea
I won't repeat what many have said but honestly, if the characters are ALREADY in your game, what about having them as DLC, but also able to unlock them? Like you can skip unlocking a character if you buy, or you can put effort into it and unlock them?
So many times it just feels it's all about the money these days...
Well, sometimes DLC's can improve things. All I have to say against this is the word "Fallout: New Vegas" and there ye go: an overly buggy game gained a good DLC that improved the game a bit (from what I have read and heard).
But in this case, what's the matter? What's the problem in here that Capcom is doing? And why is it maddening?
All characters are in the disc already, but you have to pay for a CODE that unlocks them and allows them to be used? Sounds like what MK9 did with their special character, if you ask from me...
...though announcing it might be quite a crapsack trick to do, but meh. I'm still far away behind my time *still has no PS3 himself*
Now, this is theoretical, I dont know how Capcom do thire budget or project plans and yes this my not be the case and they are infact a buch of dick holes,
but let me try to explane with my poor writing skills why this is not a crime against the world.
when budgeting a game you invest based on your expected earnings. this is simple and no suprise to anyone.
now, the extra content, be it on disc or not, is going to only be produced based on them bugeting for ernings form DLC purchases.
so basicly, they are theoretically producing this game (more to the point the combined content on the disc) at a loss with the forcast of
earning from DLC making up for the extra work. i think thats extreamly simple to grasp, dont you?
what im sayuing is, from the buget perspective, the game development perspective, the extra content on the disc are asset you havent paid for yet.
and if you want it, its right there for ya'.
now , like i said, Capcom could just be jerks here, but the issues with budgeting and project planing are very real. (and a massive pain in the ass by the way)
I can only assume the reasion the DLC fighters are on the disc is due to the fact, for ballanceing , the extra fighters would need to be finished prior to release,
and if they are done, why not stick 'em on the disk. save you havign to download 'em?
That said, why are they not DLC on the vita? this could be explaned by Sony paying the tab, but then maybe not?
(sorry if this reads baddly, im way to bussy right now to write this to essay standed)
It's a complicated subject for me to approach. I understand the business behind it but as a consumer I can't help but feel like I'm getting screwed with practices like this.
I just felt i should mention the business side of things as often people dont like to think about it.
