I really fucking hate it when movies, and games end on these ridiculous cliffhangers like the sequel is an inevitability. Well, what if it isn't? What then? I'll tell you what then. We the viewer are left utterly screwed and without any closure at all. Dammit, why tell a story if you aren't going to give it some closure?

Here, have a cup of coffee and relax.
Yeah cliffhangers...I don't like, period.
And in tv shos and cartoons is even worse, canceling them without proper resolution or without reaching full potential. Such as Sonic SatAM, like it was mentioned below (even though I never watched it). How about Pirates of Dark Water? And also Dungeons & Dragons. Swat Kats. SymBionic Titan. Chaotic. Spider-Man Unlimited and Spectacular Spider-Man. Wolverine & the X-Men. The cool 2002 He-Man cartoon (plenty of rule 4 potential in it). The list goes on and on.
Hopefully if I ever get to do the designing for games I'll at least freakin' try to wrap things up. It's like leaving a dinner half finished just because... Urhm, bad analogy, I've got no sane reason to do that, apart from you being not hungry.
... Oh wait, it's like you leaving a dinner half-finished because you kicked the plate away when someone offers to take you out for dinner. Damn publishers, always playing safe over following things through.
1) Where it's already guaranteed that it will be picked up later.
2) They do it well enough that the Cliffhanger Ending is actually the best way to do it. Aka The Italian Job.
2. Are you talking about the original because I've only seen the modern one and everyone lived happily ever after there...except Ed Norton. X3

I felt FF13 had enough closure to not need a sequel, and now with the ending it gave, they really have a LOT of pieces to pick up from the explosion of douchebaggery they pulled off.
No bias meant, but one of the best cliffhanger endings given was Tales of the Abyss. Yes, no one is sure if the Luke that returns after the credits is Luke, Asch, or some kind of fusion of the pair, but that's as far as the cliffhanger goes, and in general, it's still a happy ending... especially when you judge the expression on Jade's face, as if he was ready to say something snarky and know-it-all like always... but just simply gives a somber smile instead.
I understand the business behind it, but it still rubs me the wrong way as a consumer. Luckily, that's what YouTube and Let's Plays are for. I refuse to pay for ending DLC.
They was suppose to be a sequel to that, but never made it, but man, the ending gave a lot of possibilities.
