Been in Dallas since the 9th
WELL, like the title says. I been here since the 9th. Damn truck broke on my way out of Dallas, Texas.
On I-635, heading west when I heard an explosion like a tire had blown out. Both Student and I was trying to figure out what was going on while we still rolled in busy traffic. Noticed no weird shifts or leans for truck and trailer. So it looked okay. I looked at my air gauges and noticed it was not losing air. Fully at 150 PSI. So it was fine. So I kept driving.
By the time we got through stop and go traffic and got onto northbound I-35E, we started to notice that the air pump didn't kick in and charge the system when it went below 100 PSI. By the time I found a place to safely pull over, the air tanks gone down to 75 PSI and it was still not charging air. SOOO, pretty much there goes my brakes. If I kept going, the air pressure would have gone low enough to release the trailer brakes, making the wheels lock up since there is no air to keep the brakes from locking up. Go down any further and then the tractor brakes will lock up. Despite how this is dangerous. It's not as dangerous as the very, VERY old trucks of long gone where there was no system in place to lock the wheels up when there is no air (which most consider this set up as parking brakes). SO the old stories of trucks rolling out of control due to no air for the brake system isn't a huge possibility anymore.
Anyway, long story short, got towed to a dealership. Got to this hotel. Sat here since. Waiting, waiting.
Thursday found out a cap on one of the air tanks blew, which in turn destroyed the water separator. Thankfully the air pump and an emergency cut off switch and shut itself off. So after getting the okay from my company (me begging for money) that's been repaired Friday evening. Though they found more leaks. So they are currently looking into where and how much to repair. That's....been it since then.
Saturday,
sethtriggs was in town with his cousin to visit Dallas. His cousin was interested in seeing the Cowbows vs. Bills game. So I got to hang out with them both Saturday and Sunday. While they were in town,
sailoranna came to town also to hang out. I hadn't seen him in years, so it was nice to see him again and catch up. And we all had fun. Mostly lounged, but it was fun.
Same for Sunday, though it was wound down day. We all slowly went our separate ways.
Monday, as I predicted earlier in the week, Werner called up my Student to ask if he's still with Werner. Oddly enough, they offered to test him out early. He only had 20 hours left on his training. He wanted to tag along and finish, which I was fine with. BUT, once I get my truck fixed, I am heading to Seattle to see my doctor. And at this rate, may as well be there for Thanksgiving. SO, by the time I am done and what not. He'll be late for his Daughter's first birthday. So I convinced him to just take the offer. So I spent the whole day going to the shop. Demanding to speed things up. Then gone to my truck to get my students stuff. Then we sat at the dealership for 3 fucking hours waiting for the slugmobile they call a shuttle van for the terminal to show up. And the terminal is only TWO MILES away from the shop. Took 3 hours. Got him to the company hotel. I then hanged out with him to get him situation and tested out. Easier to get him out of training status and into driver status when the trainer is right there to answer any immediate questions they may have. Once all done. Rode the van to Wal-Mart, ate there. Bought stuff. Then rode back to the terminal with my student. Student went his own way. Damn van driver clocked off early and went home. SO I ended up calling a cab to get me from the terminal back to my hotel. And here I am.
