FurFright 2011 - much merriment

Well, this is my final convention report for 2011. I would say I kept the best for last, but given that this is the first year that I've really attended cons 'officially' (outside of Feral in 2003 and 1 day of WTF in 2010), I still don't have that great a measuring stick yet.
I will say that Furfright, to me, started off seemingly slow but as time passed I got more and more into it. It's nice that it's another con that is within driving distance for me, so I will likely be there next year as well. :)
The drive itself was interesting - left in rush hour traffic, arrived in rush hour traffic, and saw Amish folk and wild turkeys aplenty in the rural outback of New York state. :) Managed to arrive pretty much at the same time as
fionnadh and
missy_da_dane, although it meant I didn't have a chance to really stop for food on the way. Was great to see them again, though, and I was eager to get to the hotel.
We were all staying in the main hotel, as I was rooming with the former,
ErisValgen,
coopertom and
wolfy87 (who I'd never met before, but who was an overall awesome guy!) For a room of 5 people, we were 9 fursuiters. You do the math on how much space we took up.
The hotel was definitely the most memorable one of this year - the staff seemed to enjoy having us around, the layout was chaotic but in a fun 'explore at your own risk' kind of way, and the beds were the most comfortable ones I've slept in this year by far. No problems there! :) The restaurant was quite good as well. The only real issue was the small-ish bathroom and the fact that the indoor pool made certain areas of the main floor quite humid whilst in fursuit - but hey! We're used to heat.
I found this to be very much a relaxacon. There wasn't much that I really wanted to see in terms of panels (though there were a number of them) and I never felt like I'd have to rush from one area to another in order to do stuff. I got to just hang out and do whatever I felt like. I suited a lot at this con (in both parades as well as in general) and the hotel is definitely well set up for that. I was even able to navigate the stairs in suit, although I wouldn't recommend that long term. :) I even managed to watch the Rocky Horror Picture Show from the atrium's balcony area and enjoyed that very much (although have now had it running through my head for over a week solid >.< )
It was great fun hanging out with Fenrir, Okwaho and Missy, but also getting to just chat with other 'suiters in the headless lounge or some friends from Montreal/Winnipeg who happened to be there as well. The main dances were mostly fun and definitely better in terms of vision that those of AC, so I never worried about running into anyone in the dark. ^.^ The fursuit games were spectacular! I was on the winning Green Machine team and it was a blast - although the thing I'll probably take away the longest was 2 bits of charades: 1) mine was "Conan the Barbarian" (which I had no idea how to do!) 2) one of my wolfish teammates had the answer 'engagement ring' - which turned out to be a rigged card, as he got down on one knee and proposed to his mate during the game itself. *cue wedding music* it was so touching - a great moment indeed.
As with so many things, though, it was over far too quickly. I have plenty of memories that I won't be sharing as they mean nothing out of context and are very much 'inside jokes,' *coughpopufurcough* but perhaps that's the best sign of all - the memories I'll have to remember over time that will always bring a smile to my face.
Not a con newbie/fraidy-wolf like at Furnal. Not overwhelmed and engulfed by everything like at AC. A good balance of fun and rest, furry life taken at your own pace. I can see why a lot of people say this is their favorite con of the year.
Will I be back next year? I'm damn well going to try.

Going to MFF?

I'm afraid not. FF is my last con for this year, for sure. All my remaining time off is booked for around the Christmas holidays so I don't have any to spend for MFF.

I'm gonna be a con newbie/fraidy-wolf (or dog xD) and overwhelmed and engulfed by everything at MFF. D;

Maybe so, but I hope you still have fun. Just relax and don't worry! Find stuff you want to do and do it. It's worked for me so far :)
