Am I the only one actually doing NaNo right now? Almost none of my writing buddies has a word count, and those that do don't have much. (MLR, I know you aren't.) What gives?

FA+

Still, I do understand that it does provide some folks motivation, and I'm all for that! The fandom needs more productive writers.
But actually, NaNoWriMo is not truly forced. Winning the competition involves so much pre-planning and doing EVERYTHING except writing the novel prior to November. Outlines and story summaries are composed by some people throughout the year, so when Nov. rolls around they shoot off like a rocket and can easily finish without any real time crunch... considering they had the time to plan, surely they have the time to write. (Even if not, "no time" is a doodoo excuse :P )
And I do have a wordcount. It's just not for NaNo, and it doesn't necessarily mean anything, because editing isn't a straight-laced job. I keep going backwards and changing things around.
This is way harder than doing NaNo, honestly. Editing takes much, much longer than writing a rough draft. Which means I shouldn't be putting it off by readings journals on FA and writing responses to them.
I'm re-writing a chapter that I thought was unnecessary, and now I'm wondering if my re-write might not also be unnecessary. It's supposed to be sort of a dramatic pause chapter, skipping away from the main story to show something else, to keep up the tension. But I don't really know what to put in it anymore, so I might just kill it and move on. But I had a good idea what to use it for last night, but now I can't figure out how to implement it.
Ugh. Fuck.
*hugs...
