Most of my inspiration I draw from the media. Comic books, old Mad Magazine illustrations, television, whatever strikes my fancy; I’m not picky. I’m not above making thinly veiled references to things that I like, either, although whether this constitutes plagiarism or homage is unclear. Drawing from mass media might be trite, but it runs in my blood. My father works in advertising, and his father ran a movie theater. The media is the awful sea from which my ancestors crawled up and shed their gills.
When it comes to making art; I’m a bit inconsistent as to how I do it and how much time I put into it. Even when it comes of photography, some of my favorite images took hours of retrying, while others are just snapshots. I suspect I’m not unique in that regard, though. I prefer to work with pen, pencil or photography; I like to see what I can do with composition and lines. Even my 3 dimensional art tends to be full of lines when I can get away with it.
